This round River was more than ready to stay away from any impending flipendos headed her way. She needed to refocus after the last hit, and therefore she kept her focus on any spells being cast in her direction. It was apparently a good decision, as she barely dodged a hit from Henry, but she managed to avoid the blow. Taking a quick glance at the teams, it was apparently a pretty even match so far. Perhaps it would just keep going 50-50, and in the end there would be no victory for anyone. What if they’d be playing for the rest of eternity. Hopefully the odds would turn in someone's favour and get some action going. Not that there wasn’t any action already. This was the most exciting and fun thing River had participated in for ages. It had been too long since her last chance to cast some spells and potentially be knocked out by the blow of a flipendo.
She was quite relieved to see a lot of strong casters on her team, though there were a lot of strong participants on the opposing team too. Perhaps keeping up with all the team switches would prove to eventually become quite the brain-workout. Luckily River’s focus was on top, and she tried keeping her cool as she thought about the next move, and what would be most beneficial for her, and of course the team.

She had survived another round, and doing so hadn't proved to be too difficult since no spells had been sent her way, still she was ready for them either way. She watched as the streaks of light flew between the opposing sides of students, many of which not finding their target. The one hit, of course, had to end up being a loss on her team, the girl Scarlet had just been talking to, and an only recent transfer from the other team, was hit, putting her back on team Flipendo, and evening out the numbers again.

'Back to the start,' she thought to herself, which both teams basically were, granted there had been a slight change in which team each person belonged to in the previous round. She wondered who the changes favoured the most, 'they could end up with a team of duellists', she thought. She was sure the duellists would recognise each other from matches and the like, and so considered that the other team might try get them all on one side, 'then we'd be screwed.'

But she had faith in her own team, and was sure the game would be in their favour again by the end of the upcoming barrage of attacks. Although she loved the thought of a quick and easy victory for her team, she kind of liked the idea that the game might be more drawn out instead; she had a feeling it wouldn't be as simple as a quick win anyway.

Yeah, okay, so this majorly sucked. Majorly. First of all, she was on a different team, again, which wouldn't be a problem if she hadn't needed to get hit by a spell to switch. The Knockback Jinx was a pain just on its own, but twice in a row? That was pretty damn painful.

Autumn took a deep breath. Okay, new team, new her. She had hit herself with Flipendo like an idiot before, and now she had been the only one hit amongst many spells flying in the air, and honestly? She didn't expect to do too well for the rest of this, but she honestly didn't think she could do any worse, so at least there was that.

She heard Cassandra speak from behind her, probably something along an apology. She glared at them a second before turning away. The snake had hit her with a famously painful spell in a way that was especially humiliating because theirs had been the only success, but maybe they hadn't actually aimed at Autumn. It wasn't worth getting too mad over.

She was just joking. It was one-hundred-percent worth getting mad over, and get mad Autumn would. But maybe without the obvious glaring. Cassandra had already successfully hit Autumn once in the game, and Autumn didn't really want to encourage her to do it a second time.

Maybe she could do better next time, but that was probably just unwise, wishful thinking. Not worth it. She could just... mope while she cast more of her failures of spells? It let her be angsty and grumpy, but it wasn't counterproductive to her goal of winning and her method of spellcasting. Not that her spellcasting was doing any favours to her right now. Merlin, what had she done to offend Lady Luck this bad?

Round 3

As the game went on Alan would see how Delilah would cast one, not two spells at the same time, which looked kind of impressive. She would send both of those spells to individual targets, a spread spell as he knew from being part of the duelling club, but her spell only connected with the second target, Henry, which meant that he would have to switch to the other team now. Xailah would take aim for her friend, Pericles and barely catch him at the side of his face as sparks exploded next to his face. It probably would have had far more impact on the boy, if she had actually had hit the sparks right in front of him. River would go for Autumn, but miss her as the other girl dodged out of harms way with ease. It was then and there when both Peri and Alan would notice some turmoil at the far edge of the grounds, near the forbidden forest. Alan would have to go check, but Peri was nice enough to let Alan know that he would be fine to take care of it and excused himself from the game. Alan hoped that everything would be fine, but decided to catch up with the Ravenclaw prefect on this at a later point.

Both Autumn and Henry would decide to combine forces against a shared threat and managed to successfully send two powerful knockback jinxes Scarlet's way, who seemed heavily damaged and possibly bruised around shoulder and waist now, which is where the spells had connected with her. Cassandra would miss Liana, but Scarlet was actually able to perform some kind of revenge on Henry, as she hit him with the green sparks spell. Both of them would have to switch teams now, so was it truly satisfactory? At least they were both successful with their casting! Aurora would once again be unable to land a hit on Delilah, but Alan had to admire the girl's persistence.

Most troubled however seemed to be Liana. Seeing her spell was a bit difficult to describe, just as she was to target it, she'd get distracted by a bird flying out of a tree with a caw, causing her spell to launch in an entirely different direction and actually connect with one of her team mates rather than opponents. Alan grimaced in sympathy for this unfortunate event, knowing full well how it felt to be distracted and mess up because of it.

Oh, oh dear. It was a good thing Xailah wasn't born a Legilimens. She would have felt like hot garbage, had she the ability to tap into Liana's little head. The metamorph had good intentions, truly, but as seen here... that wasn't always clear. There was a reason why she fell nicely into the cozy nook of being "morally grey". She had not seen Liana's duel with her fellow first years, nor had she been aware of it. The allusion to the dancing spell was purely a cruel case of coincidence. Eek. So while the ginger was internally beating herself up, Xailah was off doing her own thing in blissful obliviousness- completely unaware of the thoughts running amuck in that poor first years brain, or the sanguine hue the girls cheeks adopted. So it would come as a surprise, when the child missed her intended target; accidentally hitting one of her own teammates- River- instead. It appeared as if Miss Liana's wand had a magnetic attraction towards the red-haired dhampir. "Oh dear-" Xailah muttered, "don't you mind that. Your wand simply favors Miss Dewlight." She would try to lessen the anticipated, figurative blow. She knew how duellists were, they always felt awful when their spells failed to shoot straight. She then pinned on a hasty, but gently commanding, "Chin up." Nodding the young snakes way.

Xailah was quite pleased with herself when one of her spells finally landed. If only just barely; but barley a landing was still a landing. Green scuttled across Pericles cheek. For a moment, things were looking up for team Verdimillious. Pulling the boy back to her team, was certainly a victory in Xailahs book. The teams would have been even. Would have been- if Pericles hadn't later decided to be a good Samaritan, and excused himself from the game. Over the rolling hills of the grounds; some miscreants were causing a ruckus. Really, whatever they were doing wasn't anybody's business; but they managed to draw attention to themselves. Alan moved, intending to go check out the trouble; but Pericles oh so kindly decided to relieve him of that duty, offering to investigate instead. Xailah rolled her eyes, clearly displeased (though mostly disappointed) by his law-abiding nature. She thought about sending some haughty words his way, but abstained, deciding her stare was more than enough to get her point across. She couldn't verbally reprimand him for being a good person. How dare he be a responsible prefect, and in the middle of a game. He was supposed to be playing- having fun, not carrying out prefect duties. There was a time for work, and a time for play; and now was clearly the time for play. As the pale boy went off to break up whatever was going on, Xailah could only shake her head slowly. Turning her attention back to the game; she readied her wand once again. This was going to be a long game.

Evidently, Liana's attempt at clearing her mind had utterly failed, because she managed to royally mess up the trajectory of her spell. Her thoughts still littered with cringe-worthy memories of magically enforced dancing, she got startled mid-cast by a crow that seemed to caw almost right next to her ear. When she instinctively turned her head to check, it was flying off some yards away. That moment of distraction cost her dearly, because when she turned back to the duel, the incantation still on her lips, a teammate stood in the way between the redhead and her designated target. She tried directing her wand away, but it was too late - plenty of sparks hit River, charming her out of the team.

''Sorry! So sorry!'' she cried out, mostly at her unintended victim, although also feeling incredibly guilty towards her whole team. Not only had she failed to bring a new member in, she also kicked out the one she'd brought before. That put her contribution in this game at zero, if not at a negative. ''We'll get you back on the team soon enough, promise.'' That was a rather feeble attempt at humour, especially considering that poor River was blinded for a second time in a short period of time, and would need a third hit to be brought back to Team Verdimillious.

The girl pressed her lips together and tried to become invisible while everyone's attention was focused on Pericles being a responsible Prefect. If she didn't talk and breathed only a little bit, everyone was sure to forget she was there and put her disastrous aim out of their minds, right? At least Xailah was waving the incident away, instead of taking back her previous compliment on Liana's accuracy. There was some solace in that. Henry's kind words, though, made her cheeks go red. Her brilliant casting? Everyone was probably internally laughing at that. With her brilliant casting, team Flipendo was sure to win, as long as she didn't join them.

''Yeah, I guess so,'' she mumbled in response. ''Just stay on this team from now on, okay?'' She didn't really want to have him aiming at her with a Flipendo like the one he sent at Scarlet. The poor brunette seemed close to passing out from the spells that hit her, a sight that, surprisingly, didn't even bring joy to Liana. Having recently been in a similar stage herself, she knew only too well how the dizziness and pain felt, and didn't want someone else to suffer that.

''Scarlet, you okay?'' she asked despite herself. The second-year was probably better off staying on the red team for now, seeing as coming back to the green side would make her a target to another volley of Knockback Jinxes. Like as not, she would end up knocked out the moment she rejoined Verdimillious.

As strategised

This round, despite their best efforts, not a lot happened. Del sent her spell, splitting it in the process, although only 1 of 2 streams managed to hit their target. Which of course is better than no spells meeting at all, however upon watching her teammates, a fair few of them missed their mark.

She did have to say, this game was fun, this was her first game as a part of the club and she was highly enjoying it, it took her a little while to get used to it but now that they had been playing for a little while, she was properly getting into it. Trying to make her team get as good of a chance of winning as possible.

It was likely at the end of this game that she would be helping heal up those who got hurt, as she was decently proficient in healing magic as far as 5th years went. It was her dream to be a healer, now that she was a part of the magical world she wanted to stay in it. That didn't seem so unusual though, she had spoken to a few muggleborns and they had thought similarly.

This was getting ridiculous now. Failing once was acceptable, but not thrice. Aurora mentally hit herself hard, quite apparent from the frown that was forming on her face. Definitely not a good sign, perhaps she needed to step up her practice game, using moving dummies or something. The existence of the room of requirement was still unknown to her, most of the time, she just tried to cast spells on still objects, that was probably the main factor that her accuracy hasn't developed quite well. She had a habit of damaging her own mind, letting herself down, not even realising that she wasn’t the only one who missed. Her target was someone with more experience, a fifth year, and a duelist, it would be a coincidence for a second year like her to be able to land the spell. Not to mention that she grew up in the muggle world, having a late first magic, it made her practice harder than most kids. Nothing wrong with that, not everyone has the same ability and learning curve. The fact that she lacked in one thing, did not mean she was bad at every single thing. She just hasn’t found the right thing for herself. If only she realised that, instead, Aurora saw herself as a big failure. If her luck forbids her to hit again, she would lose it.

Autumn hadn't gotten hit! She felt a small sensation of what might have been confusion as her body was not on the receiving end of yet another hit of the Knockback Jinx. A girl from Team Verdimillious had tried to hit her, but she had dodged, which meant that she was finally going to be part of a team for longer than literally a single round. She was embarrassingly happy at the development.

Her excitement fuelled her as she sent a Flipendo to a member of the opposite team, at what seemed to be the same time as her teammate. It looked like it hurt, and Autumn could honestly relate. She wasn't about to apologise though. How could she have known that the girl would get targeted by two jinxes at once? Autumn felt a slight pity, and moved on.

Apparently her teammate who had also hit the girl had different ideas, though, as he apologised to her about something she had probably expected going into her game. And when she hit him with the Green Sparks Spell, he didn't even seem to mind. Interesting. Maybe she had some dirt on him?

'Or maybe they're just friends and you're an idiot,' a voice in her head that sounded suspiciously like Naomi, her younger sister, suggested.

She'd hate to jinx herself, but she knew that she was going to do just fine. Or maybe she wouldn't, as evidenced by every round previous to this one. Oh Merlin, she was going to do terribly.

Yeah, it felt good to be herself again.
