#008080 Lin Evanvleck ✯ First Year
29th October 2021

@Juniper Kelly
29 October. Just a few days before Halloween. Of course Lin was excited. For the past few weeks, the trees surrounding Hogwarts had become a source of immense creativity and inspiration. Orange, red, brown leaves, and every other colour in between. Lin was excited because she loves autumn. And also because the Fall Ball was coming up. She was planning to go with her sister, Emily and Juni, girls from the same house and year as her. They met after a microscopic argument that lasted two sentences between Lin and Sophie.
The girls had decided to go to the frog choir performance. Sophie said it was weird, Lin thought it was interesting. Especially since Juni is in the frog choir. Otherwise, the twins would have just dropped by.
It wasn't exactly Halloween but the twins had decided to dress up a bit for the occasion. Lin was counting on her metamorphism to make all the difference. Sophie was counting on make-up and jewellery. Sophie had more or less the same dress as her sister, but in black. She had done her make-up in black and a little orange, with a fake scar on her eyebrow. Lin had her orange dress, her hair cut short and black sandals with small heels. The hair wasn't much compared to her eyes. One was completely white, the other had red irises. The hardest part was going to be keeping her eyes like that all day.
Lin and Sophie were running around laughing. They were coming out of the castle and Sophie had said that there would be child-eating spirits for a laugh. Lin was a bit afraid that this would happen. But for now, they had to find Juniper and Emily. Sophie had taken her time with the make-up and the girls had missed the frog choir. Lin saw her friend's red hair. And next to her, Emily. Lin grabbed her sister's hand and pulled her towards Juni and Emily.
— Hi Juni! Hi Emily! How do you like my amazing make-up?

With the frog choir performance out of the way Juni was able to enter the Samhain festival. Her date was currently somewhere... here... she hadn't seen him at the fall ball area. Most of her friends were here right now, so she would head back to the fall ball with her friends later. Right now she was looking for Gideon, the boy who was wearing a crown. And while she was walking back, she MIGHT of gotten some mud on her doc martens. She hopped Giddy would not mind that, she wasn't EXACTLY fancy.
She stood on her tip toes, gazing through the crowds of people. "Huh, he is wearing a crown." She mused. A part of her actually doubted he was serious about that, but there he was, wearing a fancy outfit with a crown. She nearly rolled her eyes. Just nearly. This would NOT be fun... now would it?
She walked over to Gideon. "Gideon- I mean Giddy.. you're actually wearing a crown." How obvious. She stood there with her "fancy dress" and "fancy" shoes, while he was dressed like a prince. "Er.. I'll be... getting a drink so I'll be right back." She waved and darted off.
The truth was she was getting away from Gideon at this point. Something about him... But he was most likely better than Cody. She turned as she heard her name and grinned. "LIN!" She hugged her friend. "Wow! And your eyes! So cool, Lin!" She remembered how Lin had changed her hair color when they first met.
"I'm afraid I have no makeup..." Juniper noticed the girl with Lin. They looked sort of alike. "Is this your sister? I don't think we've met!"

Action: Joining thread, uninvitedly joining a group of first-years.
This was Enrico's first Halloween away from home, though bittersweet - as he missed the company of his less mischievous siblings - he was still very excited to finally have the liberty to do what he always found pleasure in without having any boring adult complaining about his actions every millisecond. Though not exactly addressed as Halloween, Enrico viewed the event as a celebration of the dead regardless and sought out to enjoy himself in the festivities that Hogwarts had organized. He really hated to admit that school was suddenly becoming much cooler than it ever was in his other world. Not the one in his nearly empty thick skull; but the boring muggle one.
He made his way to the Grounds with clear excitement as he hopped and skipped in what was probably the strangest decision any boy could make when attending a ball. He covered himself in a plain (somewhat stained) blanket that covered him from head to toe (though on an averagely taller person it would have reached down to their knees). Some might have questioned why he had four holes cut out for his eyes to peek out from. That was the result of bad measurement and not paying attention to maths lessons for the past six years. If there was one thing that contributed to the many benefits of attending Hogwarts, was the lack of mathematics within the curriculum of the school. He tried his best to cover them up wearing his glasses, completely ruining the aesthetic of his silly costume. Underneath he wore a set of his favourite denim dungarees that had more years than all four of his grandparents combined - and beneath it, Enrico invested in getting a black and white sweater. Two of his least favourite colours, but a sacrifice he was willing to make for the sake of the festivities.
It didn't take long for him to realize that most of his peers had indulged themselves to look all handsome and splendid, wearing fancy clothes that people wear when attending weddings. He could smell the dullness off of them from miles away. They reeked of boredom, almost made him puke. He even saw a couple - a boy and a girl - kissing under the moon as if they had just gotten married. Gross. He threw an apple that he had intentionally bitten on at them and made a run for it before they could even notice. But it was hard to miss the boy in a white blanket.
There was a little ghost attending the ceremonies, and he was not going to rest in peace until he had spread all of his flamboyant trouble-making across the entire field that was highly decorated in the most fashionable way possible. Lights glimmering like stars and pumpkins floating about. It was truly a scene not to be missed, he hated to say it, but the scenery was much more appealing than the one back home. There was even a bear roaming around! The first and last time Enrico encountered a bear he was on the edge of wetting his pants, so it was only natural to let out a scream and lose his footing at the sight of such a beast, his right foot stepping onto the very same blanket he was wearing, allowing it to jumble up, twirling itself around his face and therefore losing his sight, which was already struggling.
After what felt like an eternity of trying to maintain his own balance and not take one face-first, Enrico found himself falling onto the ground, his blanket receiving patches of brown mud and all sorts of weird colours mixed all together, creating a splash consisting of two ingredients of mess and chaos.
The worst part out of all of this, however, was not the disaster he had just gone through, but the fact that he found himself in the centre of a group of first-years who had probably not been expecting his presence at all. Not that he planned to hang out with anyone in particular in the first place. If anything, he was not surprised at all to have received some concerning looks from students nearby, that was one... unique way to make an entrance. Not feeling awkward from the way he had found himself inserted in between these new dynamics, he took a moment to inspect the faces in front of him. Most of which familiar as he could swear that he remembered them from some classes. The redhead in particular.
"It's not about falling, it's about getting back up!" Enrico exclaimed, rubbing dust off of his knees rapidly, a smile on his face, any more wider and he could send the moon back to sleep as his face shined brighter than the sun that awaited all of them the next morning. In the meantime, he picked his blanket back up, and though the original plan was to show it off to everyone he encountered, he realized that it would not be ideal if he meant to create conversation.
And so he put it back on without holding a single thought back.
"I look pretty scary, aye? Coolest outfit on the lot! Don't worry, no need to go all in awe over it. My mind, it amazes me too sometimes. Most of the time actually." He spoke confidently, and though he tried to sound serious, his voice squeaked as if he was about to break out into laughter any second.
"Enrico Gathrone. First Year, probably heard a Professor or two complain about me in one of your classes. Do any of you know where I can get candy?" Then he realized that it was probably far from the appropriate time to ask such a silly question. There seemed to be some apparent discord taking place, and Enrico was not one to insert himself in such personal situations. (Lies).
"Never mind. Pretend I'm literally a ghost that ceased to exist."

Samhain Festival
Interacting with |★──────────★─────────★─────────★─────────★@Dancelos Grey | Mentioning
English | Russian | Yiddish ==Fedya didn't care much for the Hogwarts customs and activities. Yes, the whole reason he was here in the first place was to develop an understanding of other schools, activities, cultures, but he just didn't care for all their silly frivolities and useless games. They didn't matter in the grand scheme of things, did they?
However, when he'd met Dancelos Grey and decided that he was completely enamored, Fyodor decided that maybe he did like the dumb activities and idiotic festivals. After all, the Samhain Festival couldn't be all bad. A Pagan custom, from Fyodor's understanding, and it was, at the very least, aptly decorated and nicely adorned with pumpkins and other bits and bobs. Fedya entered the festival in his own nicely tailored and decorated suit, courtesy of his father, who had become quite the skilled tailor. After Fyodor's mother had neglected to do anything in lieu of care for him or otherwise make his life easier, his father, forever the mediator, had taken up those sorts of activities himself. While sad and often disappointing to think about, the young boy appreciated his father's contributions and gentleness.
Dancelos wasn't late, per se, Fedya was just early. He liked to show up to events early, maybe a few minutes before, just to be sure he didn't miss anything. Life moved along faster than you could blink, and he wouldn't be caught dead skipping town on things that truly did matter to him.
"О Боже Good lord," he huffed beneath his breath, watching the truly horrifying sight that was Hogwarts first-years. They were irritating and altogether too much, kissing beneath the leaves like mistletoe and crunching foliage underfoot in a way that ground Fedya's gears like nothing else. Tarja and Octavian, the two people he was actually acquainted with, were nowhere to be found, at least not in his field of vision. A group of first-years, primarily the green ones (Slytherins, his mind supplied), were in a gaggle by the entrance, engaged in what seemed to be a mass communication of some sort. It wasn't anything surprising to Fyodor. Hogwarts students were truly skilled at not communicating or otherwise understanding one another.

Galton was lucky he had been practicing. His wand hand was quick. Galton and Jürgen were quite similar, sharing more than just history. They were both spry, slippery little boys. But Galton's aim had been true; maybe Hess hadn't expected it, or just got flustered, but he was without a wand now. He could do a lot less without it, like murder.
As their actions started to draw a crowd, Galton needed to get some facts out there. He had to sway the crowd in his favor, just like he'd do during a duel. Just, maybe the whole "knocking your classmates unconscious to win praise" thing could be swapped for sounding really cool. "Erin is in danger. She could die! And Jürgen here seems to want to help murder her." He would begin to explain. As he spoke his wand hand fell to his side, a disarmed Hess was hopefully not gonna try an attack.
"Jürgen seems to think we can't save her, and just attacked Hugh." He would look between his two friends. How had they ended up on opposite sides? Galton owed a lot to Jürgen, this was really not any way to repay him. But they had to save Erin. They would be the heroes. "She didn't do anything to us, we just want to save her. From the slugs - not candy slugs - evil slugs! Right, Hugh?"

Marvelous Merlin, she looked absolutely awful. What was she thinking wearing that garrish attire? Is this why his brother bought his date a reasonable gown or why his other brother decided to date a set of frilly drapes. [Sorry, not sorry Santario Martin and Winnie Harper.] He was able to find her, not because he recognized her but because she so disappointingly stood out.
What a boy would do to keep up his end of a bargain...
The clodhoppers she wore stood out, he had no idea what doc martins were and probably never would. In her peasant's attire she would approach. It was better than the banana suit the weird girl wore before she let him out of their contract but that bar was so low it was subterranean. He would internally cringe when she approached but his obviously angelic face appeared placid, if not gleeful to see the young part-goblin.
"Gideon- I mean Giddy.. you're actually wearing a crown."
He would reach up and touch the crown as if he was making certain it was on the top of his head. Indeed it was, "I got several of these" he admitted. He really did. This was his nighttime crown, different crowns for different occasions and situations, a topic of discussion the girl would have no hope understanding.
"Er.. I'll be... getting a drink so I'll be right back."
Juni announced and gave him a wave before she ran off. Giddeon having no opportunity to halt the milkmaid he took to the ball as his date. That said, she did not leave the festival area nor did she go to the drinks. Rather, she ran up to and started to hug some other student. Unless there was a tap on the small of that other student's back, Juni was not getting a drink. She LIED. Yes, lied...
He was going to do something about it, she would rue the day. Only, there was some weird looking little guy coming at him, almost as loud as his circus attire more fitting for a man driving a overstuffed tiny car than a participant at a ball. He must have had a satchel or a shopping bag to hold those13 cupcakes he allegedly had in his inventory or his pockets were grossly overstuffed and lumpy, either scene lending to the hilarity of the part-goblin's presence. How such a prestigious youth became a magnet for these half-breeds was anyone's guess. [Less sorry than you think Serena Towers, Cody Stevenson and Juniper Kelly.]
"WHY IN THE HELL ARE YOU STEALING MY GIRL? FOR ONE, SHE'S SHORTER THAN YOU ARE! TWO, YOU- YOU...."
The small guy bellowed. It was some sort of delusional fit, although he understood upon seeing Cody why the girl might have chose to pay Giddeon rather than navigate the treacherous wasteland that was this guy. A look of dissatisfaction, no... not quite. A look of, contemptuous pity came over him as his lip curled ever so slightly. "She paid me for the sole purpose of avoiding you," Giddeon announced with a certainty that should have rocked the boy but the only rocks to be had were likely the ones in his head. "She wanted so little to do with you, she paid me off in candy to show up here and probably repel you." He shrugged his shoulders and opened the flap of his bag revealing his 'wealth' - as with any Hufflepuff worth a damn, candy was a better commodity than gold. You can't enjoy gold, only perhaps wear it on your head.
"Please don't bother me, don't touch Juniper, don't look at her. If you break those, I'll ignite a fight with you."
He would ramble on uselessly. It was like something out of a muggles Snickers commercial -- you are not you hungry...
"Are you hungry or something you confounded weirdo?" Giddeon would ask, changing the subject. There was a bit of candy left in the bag he opened for the girls. "Here, eat this" Gideon urged although it was likely the boy would stubbornly starve.
Since Cody is "closed for interactions" one can presume that he would not accept the candy that was offered so Giddeon would do the next best thing with the candy -- approach Juni. A smug expression painted his pleasant features he would make his way to Juniper's side and attempt to drop his arm, the one holding a handful of candy over her shoulder. "So... I met some short guy that thinks he is your boyfriend," he announced as he released a handful of candy possibly into Juniper's hand, possibly onto the floor. "He was pretty upset to learn that we are here together," he mused. "So, where's your drink?"

Ari watched as Cody walked off, trying to keep himself from getting upset. The one friend he had just walked off. But, of course, leave it to Cody to find something else to do, especially if it involved wreaking havoc in one way or another.
The grounds were filling with more students every second, each finding friends or things to do. It was hard not to miss out on a night like this. It would be painful to know you missed out on something so beautiful as this if you didn't come.
Ari was bored now. Cody had gotten his attention, so Ari had responded. And then Cody didn't speak anymore to him. Was he that boring of a person? Hopefully not. Hopefully he hadn't bored himself now.
Walking through the Samhain Festival, he noticed the concert many students had been talking about. The best part was that it was performed by frogs. It must've took a lot of hard work and dedication to get frogs to croak in harmony.
Helping out with the show was a girl Ari had never noticed before. Red hair that waved off her shoulders, a warm smile as the frogs sang. She looked positively happy. He kept his gaze on her though, doing his best not to stare at her. She was quite beautiful.
After the performance, the girl went off to find someone, probably a close friend or date. Ari, in a not creepy way, followed her from a distance. He really wanted to say hi to her. Maybe she'd prove to be good company.
He eventually worked up the nerve to approach her as she spoke to some other students. She was with a guy in a regal outfit, probably portraying a prince of some sort. He'd never tell the other, but he looked quite silly.
"Hey there," He said shyly, brushing his hair out of his glasses as another gust of wind blew. "You did a really good job with the frog performance. Just wanted to say."

He was quite surprised when Kobayashi-san asked him to go to the ball with her sometime after the dinner feast in the Great Hall. To be honest, Akira didn't think that he'd be going to the ball with anyone at all, and hadn't really given much thought to asking someone. He didn't consider himself particularly friendly, approachable or outgoing -- the type he thought would be more likely to have ball partners. In fact, he was more often the opposite, found minding his own business while studying, reading, or practicing his music, calligraphy, and sport.
Of course, he tried not to show much of his surprise, as his usual facial expression was undeniably stoic. It was almost as if his face could show little other emotion at all, perhaps unless he was glaring at Shamsi for running his mouth. However, it wasn't rare that Kobayashi-san surprised him with her steadfast and forward personality. She didn't seem to be the type to back down from whatever she wanted, and often spoke her mind. The way she stood up for herself in front of Shamsi and talked back to her older brother showed him this.
But, once he had politely agreed to attend the ball with her, he was determined to meet the standards of being a polite, gracious ball partner. As his father had told him: "Once you commit to a task, you must focus your energies to perform well." No, taking on the responsibility half-heartedly would not do. His to-do list was compiled after a day of careful etiquette research in the library and from what he had learned from his mother about social gatherings: First, he had made sure to ask Kobayashi-san about her ball outfit, so he could prepare his own outfit to match hers. The lady had primary discretion with regards to dress. Second, he had to make sure to show his appreciation for having her accompany him to the ball; a corsage was often presented to the lady, from what he read of British etiquette, and he followed customs down to the last word (not knowing that it was perhaps more a practice of adults rather than eleven-year-olds). Thus, he selected a seasonal flower that was appropriate for the theme of the ball, and of a color that would likely match her dress. Third, upon greeting his partner at the ball, be sure to notice even the smallest details of her outfit, and verbally acknowledge her good effort and taste. It was important to make sure she felt that her time and focused effort was appreciated, as his mother had said.
And so, he followed these steps to a T, perhaps coming off as more formal or intense than any eleven-year-old would ever be. That was Akira Shimizu for you.
"Oh, uh... Thank you very much. It's very nice. I really like chrysanthemums." Kobayashi-san seemed somewhat surprised upon seeing the corsage, likely not expecting the intensity of which he took on this task as ball partner, but thanked him kindly and took the flowers. Akira allowed a small smile in return for her appreciation. "I'm glad that I chose the right flower, then." Chrysanthemums decorated the Shimizu estate and blossomed beautifully in autumn, so these flowers somehow reminded him of home as well.
"Would you like to try one of the activities? I'm not too keen on searching for... eels in the mud, but if there's an activity you like, we can go there," Kobayashi-san suggested. He glanced around, surveying the madness around them. No, definitely not the eels. And were some students fighting in the distance? How unbecoming. "Why don't we go take a look at the farm?" he suggested. "It looks like a nice place to walk and maybe we can see how we can help," he offered, completely oblivious to what kinds of horrors the event actually held.
Kobayashi-san seemed to spot someone nearby. Akira's dark brown eyes followed Kobayashi-san's and landed on Ohashi-san, who was wearing contrasting black and white decorated with fall flowers and colors. "Good afternoon, Ohashi-san," Akira bowed slightly, and glanced around, wondering if anyone else was accompanying her to the ball. Seeing none, he asked, "Would you like to accompany us to the harvesting event? We might be heading there. It seems like a... more pleasant event." His eyes darted briefly to the mud nearby, and then to the bear roaring in the distance. The faster he left this circus, the better.

XXXXFinally! It was about time that Matthew Gray make his grand appearance, because Maggie was freezing to a popsicle out here. Frozen solid, really, with goosebumps traveling up her arms and down her spine. It was straight criminal, the way that Matthew was making her wait. The silk of her dress, light dusty pink, was blowing back against her knees, lifting the hem of it up and revealing the high-top converse she'd chosen to wear in place of heels or flats.
Carrie White. Maggie had always had an affinity for horror movies, and one of her favorites was Carrie. Quite the interesting social commentary, she thought. And so, when the opportunity presented itself, Maggie was enthusiastic for a chance to dress up. Still elegant, she thought, but interesting enough. Of course, she'd grabbed a short cloak for her shoulders, knowing it would be cold, and to top the whole outfit off was a tiara set with rubies. Or faux rubies. It was reminiscent of blood, or something like that. It had been the intention, at least.
"I would've been late, too, if I thought you'd be slacking so hard, Gray," no hard feelings. They were just two friends attending a festival together, sure to make some trouble. "Honestly, this whole thing looks a little idiotic. People are wearing whole ball gowns, as if they aren't gonna get muddied up and gross."
Was that hypocritical? Maggie was wearing an easily stained dress, shoot, was she being a hypocrite? No, no, couldn't be, because she was technically dressed up. In a Halloween ensemble. "Whatever, though. Think we could fling mud?"
Any plans Maggie was trying to make, however, were halted quite suddenly when Liana Kerr made her entrance. She looked wonderful, as far as Maggie was concerned. Any and all complaints she'd made about fancy dresses and impractical shoes dissipated. This was her friend! This was her friend and she looked lovely, she looked radiant, she looked not happy and oh god--
"Hey, Li!" Maggie greeted brightly, turning her body to see Liana fully. Liana's words were targeted and Maggie suddenly felt very much like she was in the wrong, being scolded by her mother for poor dinner etiquette and bad manners, even though she really had no idea about the whole arrangement that Matthew and Liana had in the first place! Honest! Matthew had asked Maggie to the dance to have a little fun, hang out, and that was all! Liana hadn't been in the picture at all.
And it only got worse.
Vale Ashwood and Avery Chen, who Maggie would ordinarily be very enthused to see, just had to come and add their thoughts and input. Shoot. Troll bogies. Bloody hell. "Kick the bucket?" Just a big misunderstanding. This was all just a big misunderstanding. "Matthew, what's going on?"
Enter Enrico Gathorne. Unwelcome guest turned more than welcome distraction. And a costume! "Nice costume," Maggie commented in a harsh whisper, stepped back away from the two in the center of the scuffle. Matthew Gray, you're on your own! "You look kinda like a Kleenex, though, man," she added, snapping her fingers in his direction with a poorly aimed finger gun. "A used Kleenex. I could lend you some laundry detergent if you need it."
God. Boys sucked.

It wasn't something she was completely interested in, but her new friends seemed to rather like the idea of dressing as them. That is how Rosella ended up walking into the fall ball dressed in a black power ranger costume. The first thing she did was look around for her new friends. "There they are," she muttered to herself as she started to make her way towards the other power rangers in the room. This was extremely strange for her.
Rosella just followed along after the rest of her friends as they headed towards what she heard of as eel catching. "Eels?" she questioned, "We-we are going to attempt to catch eels?" She was not sure about this school, Hogwarts. Who would think that catching eels was a form of entertainment at a ball. She still followed along behind the others, slightly hesitant on what was going to occur. She had heard about the bad things that had happened at this school in the past and was sure that this was going to turn out just as bad. "Oh all things... eels." she muttered to herself in Russian.
