Serena sighed as she leaned back against the tree trunk, one arm resting on a propped up knee. Her other leg was elongated. Her gaze was just watched the little brown rat sitting in the grass not too far from her, on a little blanket that she had given him. "I don't know, Pizza, this whole thing is just so stupid. I don't even understand why- It's not even fair!" She complained to the rat, as though he was the only person in the whole world who would understand her. No one else seemed to get it. They were all so busy on their fifth or sixth boyfriend or girlfriend by now. And here she was, confused as hell about her feelings. It really sucked, sometimes.

Everything was made so much worse by her dumb brother. Why was he even there? He complained that Hogwarts sucked and about how much better his school was constantly and yet, he seemed to always be here. Okay, she did not really care that much about his presence but she just hated the fact that he happened to be there on that day and saw everything and did nothing. It was made painfully clear to her that she was not as pretty as everyone else or likeable as them or whatever it was that people were looking for in girls. She seemed to be the only one without a date all the time or the only one who did not have a boyfriend or someone who actually liked her.

Admittedly, she had never actually told her crush how she had felt when she crushed on him. Ughh, why was she so shy? Serena recalled how she would run away from Edric as soon as she saw him. If she saw him exiting from a door in front of her, she would literally bolt right past or turn heel and flee before she caught his eye. Not that he would say anything to her, they were not exactly close. But the thought of even making eye contact with him was enough to send her heart pounding. Telling him would not have helped, she knew that. She could barely even look at him, let alone say anything to him. How she was supposed to have formulated the words 'Hey, I think you're really cute'?! And what would his response be, 'Who are you?'.

It did not matter anymore anyway, she was over that crush. But it was just painfully clear that, even though she was now fifteen, she had zero people who thought she was cute or wanted to date or anything and... it kind of just really... sucked. She saw first years walking around with their millionth girlfriend or boyfriend already, and they had literally just joined the school! If it wasn't for Milo literally pitying her, she would probably never have even had a date to a single ball.

Playing spin the bottle really did not help matters. It just made everything so much worse, really. Despite the fact that her brother was an absolute douche, everyone seemed interested in kissing him - which just made her want to barf. Hell, Falentra even got Glen to kiss her and she was an absolute bitch too - yeah, okay, Serena was still kind of mad about the fact that she got punched in the face and then was the one left feeling guilty. And Howard, don't even get her started on Howard.

A lot of the thoughts she was having ended up coming out as words. Words she said to Pizza Rat - as no one else seemed to be around. "Honestly, if it wasn't for Milo, what the hell would my record show? Nothing? Great! How amazing. I feel so bloody great!" She ranted, fuming at the whole thing. She felt so... crappy, in all honesty. She was fifteen and she was probably the most pathetic fifth year in existence. Feelings sucked. Kissing was stupid. Boys were dumb.

Alright, she was a tad bit moody.

Serena wasn't the only one, lucky for her!

Well, maybe not lucky at all. Depending on how you took relationships, romance, love in general, not having a partner by this point was quite embarrassing. When Rosie was younger, she was convinced that she was just a princess waiting for her prince to arrive. Since then, she had gone through a sexuality crisis. And puberty. Presently, she ultimately focused on her studies and Quidditch. The well being of her friends meant a lot more to her than some sort of school romance. Though, she had to admit that it would be nice. Last time there was a ball, she had to ask Reid to go with her, who had practically been her body guard. Things were weird that year, a lot of the older years were on edge.

Regardless, Rosie liked to make jokes about it. Despite being bisexual, she was still single. The girl had practically double the options and here she was. To be fair, she wasn't out. She wouldn't be out, like ever. There was no way she'd be telling anyone that. Maybe the last day of her seventh year, as a goodbye note. But it was too big of an announcement. In her family, with her dads, it was a huge deal. She didn't need a repeat of that at school. But today wasn't about her, it was about Serena!

Rosie had been pondering something else before she saw Serena at the Great Lake. It seemed like she had been talking to... Pizza? That was her rat's name, right? She seemed to be quite troubled. As much as Rosie liked to think the crush had passed, whenever she saw Serena, there was a small part of it that reawakened again. Anything that Rosie had been currently thinking about left as soon as she saw her friend seemingly frustrated. If there was something she could do, she would! With that in mind, the girl approached her fellow Hufflepuff.

"Hey, Serena!" She called from a few feet away, approaching her. Upon seeing Serena's face clearly, Rosie frowned. "Oh, you look angry. Are you okay?" Rosie was quick to check on her, crouching nearby. "I can listen, or attempt to give you advice. Unless Pizza's got that covered." She joked, grinning at an attempt to lighten her mood.

Her thoughts were interrupted by her name being called out not too far away from her, in a familiar voice. Turning to the sound of the voice, she spotted Rosie. Her expression was still sour, it seemed, which had been pointed out by her friend. "Ahh, sorry," She mumbled as she sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose and rubbing it slightly. Rosie was by her side not too long after, grinning at her sweetly.

She sighed, forcing a small smile on her face, "I mean, he's doing a pretty good job, I think," She responded back, her tone of voice clearly a lot lighter than it had been moments prior when she was ranting, "At the listening part, anyway. He's not so good at the advice but he's trying," Serena added. Pizza Rat probably was not even trying but you know, she was giving him as much credit as possible. The fact that he had not just run away to go play in the grass or to go find some food counted as him trying.

"Nah, it's nothing. It's just... dumb." Serena continued after a moment, sighing softly. Picking up Pizza, she placed him in the grass so that he could actually go play if he wanted, "Boys are just dumb! I've decided that I hate them," She declared. It was not true. Not even in the slightest. She did not hate all boys, nor did she think they were dumb but she was just exaggerating because she was mad. "Like one minute they are all cute and stuff and then the next, they are just jerks and apparently everyone is really into jerks and not nice people and I just don't get this whole thing. You know, love is dumb. Not boys. Love, dating, relationships, it's all so stupid and unnecessary and feelings suck," These were all big bold declarations, that would probably only last a solid of 5 seconds before she fell in love with someone and decided it was amazing. But mid-rant, she strongly believed all of these things that she was declaring oh so boldly.

"Don't apologize! I was just worried." Rosie shook her head, coming to sit by the girl.

As Serena complimented her rat for at least listening to her rants, the other Hufflepuff smiled as she watched him scurry off to go find things to do that wasn't girl talk. Did rats have a concept of girl talk? Or boredom, for that matter? Who knew... She supposed that wasn't really the main focus, her friend was! Whatever she was going through, she seemed troubled enough to rant about it to her pet. Perhaps she'd benefit from saying it someone who could actually reply.

Oh... Boy trouble.

This was always an awkward conversation. With any sort of person. Boy talk was typical girl talk, especially for ones their age, but this was her first encounter with it this year. But Serena made a very valid point, they were dumb. Incredibly dumb, in fact. All of her male friends lacked some sort of intellectual capacity, which was fine sometimes, she did too. But lacking knowledge in the romance field was incredibly irritating! Especially for Serena apparently. So at her first comment, Rosie nodded. "I agree, though! Boys are stupid, that goes without saying. I think some hate towards them isn't completely invalid." She smiled at her, leaning back on her hands.

Though, then she changed her opinion. Love was dumb, not boys. She paused at that remark, before shaking her head. "Love can be stupid, I think, when it's with the wrong people." She mused, hugging her knees. "Or when we don't understand our feelings, love feels stupid. When people exploit how we feel, it makes us feel love is stupid, but it just means we haven't found the right person to share it with." Rosie proclaimed, confident in her answer. Some people deserved her love, romantic or platonic, and some people did not.

But that begged the question, who was making Serena feel this way? Surely, anyone would be lucky to have her love. Serena was incredibly kind, funny, and amazing to be around. Someone who had meddled with the chance to be with her was a complete and utter idiot! "Did something happen to you?" She asked, a protective tone overtaking her voice. "Anyone who wastes your time like this isn't worth it, firstly." She wanted to say that before Serena explained. She had to know that some people weren't worth crying over, she was too good for that.

Oh god. They were coming back.

Of course she was protective over Serena, she was a Hufflepuff! That was in their blood, but Rosie still felt strongly for her. She blushed lightly and rubbed her face, a bit embarrassed by her sudden question. "Sorry, I don't mean to be nosy."

Serena twiddled her thumbs together as she listened to her friend agree with her. Of course, Rosie could have just been agreeing to be nice and comforting - as that was what friends did. But nonetheless, it was nice to have someone agree with her. She always felt kind of lonely, even when she was in a room full of people. A part of her felt excluded or stuck in her own world, unable to reach others. She would find herself making small talk with people she barely knew at events and whilst it was pleasant, there was a part of her always wondered why she did not have a date or a group of friends to go with.

"Uugghhhhh," In a dramatic groan, Serena allowed her back to slowly slide from the tree trunk and drastically fall onto the floor. She flailed her arms onto it, spreading them out as she stared up at the sky, "It's so dumb... What if we... never find the right person?" She asked after a moment. Who was the right person? How was she supposed to know who they were? Maybe it was Edric and she would just never know because she never had the guts to go up to him and actually talk to him like a normal person. Maybe it's someone who was already taken and it's way too late? Maybe it's someone who she has not met and would never meet because they live on the other side of the planet or in some remote village that she would never visit.

Admittedly, the Hufflepuff was very good at lying to herself. She had spent many years telling herself things that were not necessarily true, to the point where she believed them. Glancing to her side, she watched Pizza Rat stare at her - likely wondering what she was doing lying in the grass randomly. But the rat then started to sniff the ground as though it was more interested in that.

Looking over at Rosie, she sighed, "Yes. No. Maybe- I don't know-" She answered, not entirely sure what happened. Nothing happened and yet, everything happened at the same time. It was not that anyone wasted her time, necessarily... It was more the opposite? No one seemed to be interested in her in that way at all. And... it kind of hurt. It begged the question, "What's wrong with me?" She voiced the question that was prying in her mind, "Like... seriously... first years change their boyfriend or girlfriend every two days, I swear. And then there's me who just... yeah..." She faded off, not entirely sure she wanted to finish that sentence. She was alone. She sat up slightly, onto her elbows, as she stared at Rosie.

It almost angered Rosie to hear Serena's words.

How could anyone not like Serena? What was wrong with her, literally? Nothing! She was incredibly nice to everyone who deserved it, she was brave, and loyal. Anyone who didn't see that was clearly an idiot. She watched Serena sink down to the ground, cracking a smile at her antics. Even through her distress, at least the girl was trying to relax. Besides, she looked a little funny. "There's a lot of time to find the right person, Serena. Maybe your time just isn't while we're at school, and even then, we still got lots of time here." She mused.

As she talked to Serena, the girl scooted up to sit beside her, before full on laying in the grass next to her. It was a comfy place to rest her head. Listening to the Great Lake did wonders for her naps, even if she had to sleep by a tree in order to make sure she wouldn't be trampled. She didn't sleep outside as much, though, she didn't like the grass in her hair after she woke up. But when she needed time to just relax with her friends, the Great Lake was an amazing spot. Though, she was getting off topic. The real concern here was Serena!

As her friend lamented about her single life, Rosie suddenly thought of an idea. But it had a very high chance of going incredibly bad. Best case scenario, go! Rosie tells Serena she used to like her, and she would go into a speech about how there was no way nobody could like her, because she had at some point. They could laugh about it, and hopefully Serena would gain some confidence, and/or she would be content in waiting for her time.

But a worse case scenario was much more likely.

Alternatively, Rosie could tell Serena she used to like her. This would involve not only telling Serena she literally used to like her, but it would involve her telling someone, finally, that she liked girls. If this was going to go bad, it was going to go horribly bad. But the thing was, there wasn't any possible reason that Serena was unlikable. Rosie had liked her for so long, for reasons she could make a list about.

But she couldn't ever know that. At least, not yet.

So, the girl had to make something up. Rosie put her hands under her head, and looked up at the sky. "Well, first of all, the first years are probably getting with each other because they think teasing each other is a form of affection. At that age, kids will take a lot of stuff as romantic, hence the brief relationships. We saw that a lot when we were little, I wouldn't reference them to much." She paused, trying to figure out how she wanted to phrase what she wanted to say. Rosie sat up, turning to her so she knew Serena was looking at her. She wanted her to know she was serious.

"There isn't anything wrong with you, Serena. Nothing. Just because someone hasn't seen you for all that you are yet, doesn't mean you're lacking something. Truth is, anyone would be lucky to have you. Anyone would be lucky to have an opportunity to be with someone like you, and anyone who doesn't think that, is stupid." She paused, halting in her words. She said way too much. "... As your friend," JESUS, "I want you to know that. I don't want people you don't even know yet, making you think you're not suited for love. It's not fair to you."

At the end of her rant, she leaned back on her hands. "So, since there is one, clearly, who's the guy?" She paused. "Or girl." There was definitely someone in the picture. Someone specifically was making Serena feel this way, and it almost frustrated her.

"But... what if my time is just never? What if there's no one out there who is right for me?" She asked, voicing the sad thought that had occurred in her mind. Perhaps it was dramatic of her - she had her entire life ahead of her, after all. However, it also kind of felt like if it did not happen now then maybe it never would. Everyone else their age seemed so ok with kissing, for instance, and she just... was not. Ugh that stupid spin the bottle game.

"No, I guess, you're right... It just seems like... everyone's totally ahead of me, you know?" Serena replied with a sigh, as she listened to her friend explain the situation. It sounded very logical when Rosie said it and maybe she was right, perhaps Serena would find someone afterwards but what if, she was always behind?

Looking at Rosie, she pouted slightly, "I mean, you say this but when I was their age, I never had a relationship," To deny the idea that kids that age had brief relationships for that reason. She would have liked one! Probably. Okay, she had no idea if she would have liked it or not but that was not the point. The option alone was not even something that had been presented to her at that time.

Serena sighed as Rosie complimented her. She did not believe it. Rosie was her friend, of course, she would say nice things about her! But no one wanted the opportunity to be with her. Like literally, no one had ever asked her on a date. What do people even do on dates? She had no idea! Perhaps she would never know! It probably did not help that the girl was painfully oblivious - she did not notice anything even remotely romantic about Rosie's words.

"Guy," Serena responded instinctively to Rosie's question, as she pictured Howard's face. Wait, no no no no no. Suddenly she sat up, "I mean- like- there isn't really one-" She tried to quickly backtrack. Of course, she did not like him! That was ridiculous! Of course not!

She opened her mouth and then closed it, frantically trying to figure out a way to explain. There was no guy! Definitely not! No one's name came to mind, she did not picture anyone's face, she did not think of him - or anyone! "Okay, so it's more of a long story but- well, at summer camp, towards the end, there was this stupid game thing and it was just. Ugh, it was stupid, okay? They called it 'Spin the bottle' or something and you just had to spin the bottle and I thought that maybe it was like whoever got selected had to pick a truth or dare but nooooo, it was like you had to kiss the person that the bottle pointed at and this whole bloody thing was such a mess," Serena tried to explain what happened and why she was feeling this way.

"I don't really know what happened but like, it was just so bad. Like the whole thing was really awkward in the first place. I got paired up with Glen and Bloom and stuff, which was fine but awkward. Like we didn't really want to kiss so we just hugged and that was fine but like everyone else was kissing and it just felt kind of awkward. And I guess, ugh, is it bad that like everyone else seemed so comfortable with it and I just did not want to be there?" She asked, waving her arms around frantically as she explained, as though her hand gestures would help, "But anyway, it was really just weird. And then I got paired with Howard. And he said we should hug -" She paused for a second, as an odd sensation hit her chest. Jealousy? Disappointment? Sadness? She could not describe it, she just disliked the fact that he had asked her to hug now that she thought about it. The guy even wanted to kiss that other random guy that he kept getting paired with! Yet he didn't want to kiss her? What was wrong with her? Why couldn't he just kiss h- Wait- why was she thinking about-

Waving her hands suddenly as though to erase that thought, Serena shook her head and tried to continue, as her face started to go red from the thought she was having, "So uh, yeah, we uh... right! Hug! So we had to hug. But then his girlfriend - or maybe ex now, I don't really know - just came out of nowhere and punched me in the face for, I guess, talking to him or something. I dunno. And then he got upset and I got upset. OH! And to make everything worse, my brother was there and he was so unhelpful. Like so unhelpful. He literally supported stupid Falentra instead of me, which I think is so unfair, given that I didn't really do anything, you know? I didn't even know they were dating! I mean, I don't know if
they are now either but he said he loves her so I guess, maybe?
"
Why did her chest hurt? This was not happening. She definitely did not like him, no way. Of course not. Falentra would murder her. Besides, he was already in love with someone else! He'd be the worst person to like! He wouldn't reciprocate!

Not that anyone else would reciprocate but like, at least there was a chance if the guy wasn't into someone else you know? At least, that was her logic. Ughhhh. This whole thing was dumb.

Oh, god. What had Rosie started?

Don't get her wrong, Rosie loved to listen to people babble. She talked a lot, so it was a nice change of pace to just... Listen! But GOD was she not expecting Serena to start off with such a rollercoaster. Perhaps the Hufflepuff had just been focusing on her not-gushing-but-totally-gushing session that she just had for Serena in an attempt to hype her up. As Serena spoke, the girl's eyes widened in shock. She just had no idea that Serena was capable of saying so many things! It was great, honestly. Her frantic babbling was almost cute.

Stop it, Rosie! Not the point!

Anyway, she needed a starting point. Where did Rosie even begin? Well, she started with the obvious. "There will be a time." She insisted, nodding. "There will be a time for you, Serena. I promise." God dammit ROSIE WOULD DATE HER IF NOBODY ELSE WOULD. Okay, maybe not. But like, the offer would definitely be there. Always and forever. "And if people are ahead of you, who cares, really? It's not all bad." Rosie mused, smiling as she lightly nudged her. "That just means you can watch their chaos unfold, it's kinda funny, and you can offer comically bad love advice!" Being friends with Reid meant you needed to give love advice, like all the time. It was mostly about rejecting girls, though.

"Also, having a relationship that young isn't an accomplishment anyway! Unless you're star-crossed lovers, which never usually happens, they end up just being funny memories. You're not missing out on much, Serena." She assured, watching Serena nervously try to regain her words, smiling lightly. Rosie was just happy she was able to be there for Serena, she seemed like she needed someone to talk to about this. Maybe she'd feel better after it all!

Man, it was a boy. Not that Rosie would've been thrilled if she said girl either, because it would've meant the girl was not her! But she wasn't shocked at the revelation. Rosie opened her mouth to comment on the 'crush', but Serena interrupted her with more nervous babble. He was... Not a crush, but also a crush? What was happening? Oh my god, they had played Spin the Bottle. A very gross and weird muggle game. Rosie put a hand over her mouth as Serena confided in her about that tragic story. "Yeah, that's an old muggle game. It's so weird. Sorry. Carry on." She just had to add in the very necessary comment.

Oh, okay! So there was not kissing. Only hugging! That seemed to go well, right? She vaguely remembered Bloom, she seemed pretty nice. Glenn, she didn't know who that was. But he seemed to be nice too, probably! By the pause in her words when she reached Howard, she figured that was the guy. Of course Rosie knew him, he was in her house! He was an older year, and on the Quidditch team, so she had to know his face. He seemed friendly enough, he was a great player, too. Cool dude!

The Hufflepuff's face contorted into a grimace as Serena's story reached it's climax. Oh, that was incredibly messy. Her eyebrows rose when she mentioned that she got punched. "WHAT?" She reacted loudly, leaning forward as Magnus, her cat, nearly jumped at her reaction. She had PUNCHED Serena? What the heck was wrong with this girl? Punching people for interacting with her boyfriend, was she nuts? She had to be! And to punch Serena's face of all people. "If I was there..." She would've done nothing, because Rosie couldn't fight. But she was friends with people like Quinn and Reid, she knew a few things, dammit! "I would've said something!" There we go, that's more like you, Rosie!

The brother thing was odd too, Rosie didn't even know Serena had a brother! Little did she know, he was quite the playboy and she'd probably fall for his charm. But for now, he sounded mildly irritating. Letting out a sigh, Rosie smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry, Serena. That sounds like a lot, I'm glad it's over but... Shit, that's a lot to deal with." Rosie mumbled, petting Magnus as he came to sit on her lap.

"Well, knowing that situation... I would steer clear from all of that. They don't deserve your time or your stress over it. If they wanna be a weirdly toxic couple, then that's them! It's not your fault you didn't know, and it's certainly not your fault you tried to calmly settle Spin the Bottle. Her actions are not justified, if I was you I'd probably jump her after. Punching you for such a stupid reason, what an asshole." Rosie felt oddly angry at the story. How dare she, really. Serena was so nice, and the overreaction was just awful. "I think maybe until Howard figures that all out, steer away from it." She nodded, finding that to be the best option. "You're freaking out over it now, and until Howard can come talk to you on his accord, you should just avoid their chaos."

Rosie paused for a moment. "And then when you've had time to think about it, tell him the truth." She figured Serena liked him, from what she said and how she reacted towards him. "When you want to, of course. And maybe not in his ex's... Not ex? Whatever she is... Maybe not in her presence."

"I feel like I'm being dragged into their chaos, rather than being able to watch from afar though," Serena responded truthfully, as she sat up on her elbows, propping herself up slightly to look over to Rosie. She smiled weakly though. There was some comfort in the other girl's words. Hopefully, there would be a time for her. It was just... annoying. And rather painful on her self-esteem when it felt like she was being 'left behind' per se.

She sighed after explaining the whole story with the spin the bottle, falling back onto the ground in a plop. "Yeah... I don't really understand why. Like I assume she just got jealous or something but it was so hypocritical of her to be jealous, if that was the issue because she literally kissed Glen like seconds before and like, we weren't even going to do that!" Serena continued, not quite understanding the full situation - mostly due to the lack of knowledge and information she had on the matter.

Running her hand through her hair, she listened to Rosie. She immediately sat up when Rosie spoke about steering clear of Howard, staying away from it. There was a pain in Serena's chest. She did not want to stay away from Howard. They were friends and it was super unfair that she would have to lose her friend because some random girl decided to get jealous.

But deep down, she kind of thought Rosie was right. It was probably better to avoid all of the chaos. Though... was it her fault that they might have broken up? It kind of felt like it was. And seeing Howard's reaction was painful. He snapped when she attacked back. He didn't snap when Falentra attacked Serena. He snapped when Serena retaliated and tried to defend herself. Serena frowned, as a pang of jealousy hit her chest on that realisation. He was not mad at his girlfriend or ex or whatever she was by now, he was mad at her for retaliating. Or upset by that. She stared at the grass in front of her, "You didn't see his face, Rosie... He was really hurt when I fought back. I shouldn't have retaliated, I just... I lost control," She admitted, "I think he's upset or mad with me... or hurt by me. I dunno, really. I just- it feels crap," Serena explained before looking at Rosie.

"What do you mean by the truth?" She asked, wondering what she meant by that part. He knew everything, right? Well, maybe he didn't. He did not know that she felt like crap for it, so maybe he was due an apology.

Rosie winced at the remark that she was being dragged into it. She could understand how that was like, being pulled into things you wanted no part of. Usually they were a bit more violent, it seemed, but regardless they seemed to connect on that! She could find a way to empathize. Regardless, the girl put on a gentle smile to mirror Serena's, wanting to provide her with a comforting presence, at the very least. Sometimes, people just needed someone to listen to them.

"Yeah, that whole situation seems very messy, honestly..." She trailed off, rubbing her neck as she pondered the Spin the Bottle situation. "The only explanation is that she was jealous, but if I'm being honest? If people are content with themselves and their relationship, they have no reason to be jealous. So it's definitely not your fault at all, just something she needs to sort out with herself." Rosie had witnessed the jealousy first hand. Her mom was crazy. Even before the divorce.

With the talk of Howard, Rosie frowned a bit. Serena was so kind, maybe too kind. Even if something clearly wasn't her fault, she'd find a way to take responsibility. She deserved more than that, and she certainly deserved someone who would tell her the full truth about a messy situation. Not that Howard was doing something wrong, but maybe he should try finding her too! Rosie thought for a little bit on her words. "Well, I don't think he thinks you did anything wrong. You were right in feeling a bit defensive, someone lashed at you for something you weren't going to do. He doesn't seem like that type of person, maybe he just thinks you're mad at him?" Rosie suggested, before shrugging a bit at her question on the truth.

"I mean, maybe there's more feelings there. I think after some space, you should go talk to him. Clear the air. I think that would be beneficial to both of your guys problems. And if things don't work out, well, you won't know until you try, right?"
