Peace, it seemed, had finally reared its beautiful head. The girl cosplaying as a burrito ceased with her screaming, and instead opted to explain herself through much more calm and level-headed means. That did not mean that the content of her explanations made any more sense, but it did mean that Nicholas didn’t need to fear a burst eardrum. Apparently, one of her friends had been mad at a boy, then had gone on a date with him and had swiftly turned that hatred into affection. Nicholas was hardly the type to understand the ins and outs of relationships, only that they occasionally seemed to flare up between his classmates, heaven forbid he ever be dragged into one, yet even he understood the concept of girls getting annoyed at their boyfriends. The other boy, he supposed the cousin of the alleged poisoner, had provided a sufficient explanation.

Nicholas’s mind filled in the remainder of the situation, the puzzle unravelling in his head, and he spoke to that effect, “She was probably annoyed at him for some kind of dating reason.” He sighed, relationship drama was so vapid, so pointless, “He probably apologised to her by throwing her the date, then apologised some more through food, then apologised more through actual apologies. Besides, he’s right,” Nicholas waved vaguely in the direction of Jürgen, not that he knew his name, “I don’t think a student our age would even know where to start with brewing a potion that can cause forgetfulness. I’d even be surprised to learn that many older students can.” He shrugged.

Had the older boy left it at that, Nicholas’s newfound calm probably would have settled, and he would have been able to speak quite rationally. But familial grudges and their stains upon those brought up to further their cause were not so hastily ignored. The dark-haired boy’s blase remarks about his family's pureblood status, of their wealth and prestige, and of how Winnie would gain favour through mere association brought unconscious reactions forth from Nicholas’s core. He went rigid, eyes flaring as he turned to the older boy.

“I see,” He bit back the more scathing words that he wanted to unleash, his mother’s less than pure blood and his own clan’s befallen status combining to create quite a sizable chip on his shoulder, a chip that could hardly be contained.

That anger clouded his judgement. Whereas he had seen the older boy as an ally in the fight against shrieking girls and fairy tales about poisonings not a few moments earlier, his loyalty had shifted swiftly. The blood that ran through his veins was mixed, yet it was proud, and it demanded retribution against pureblood society. Regardless of the existence of a true slight or not.

He forced a shrug, the movement rigid and awkward, his attempts to hide his obvious discomfort entirely incompetent, “I don’t think she’s smart enough to lie.” The statement was backhanded, but it was the truth.

“If she were going to try and trick anyone she probably wouldn’t have assaulted you guys in the first place and then gone on an insane rant about your cousin’s dark magical prowess,” He continued, “Besides, the longer we keep her wrapped up the longer we have to put up with her.” The frustration faded from his tone as he spoke, the earlier grievance somewhat forgotten as he reasoned his way through freeing the girl, but such rage was not quite so easily dissipated.

No one knows what’s hidden under one’s sleeve. Some would do anything to achieve their goal, including illegal ways. As she said before, with questionable school security, impossibility doesn’t exist here. “The thing is, you don’t know what someone is capable of. Plus, he could’ve asked someone to brew it for him, or I don’t know, there must be a wizarding black market or something. And, we learnt about the forgetfulness potion in first year. The more you drink, the more severe the effect will be. If he attends classes, It is possible if you ask me.” The ingredients are far from complicated. Valerian sprigs, mistletoe berries, lethe river water, standard ingredients, and voila! Memory loss in a bottle! As stated in the textbook that she came across while skimming through it, the amount of memory loss was an ‘unknown degree’. Although it might not be the answer, it was convincing enough for her.

This whole thing was vague. Especially after the shorter one spoke out his theory. If it was just a misunderstanding, what kind of grand gesture apology should she make in front of the couple? All the energy wasted for screaming and it was for nothing. “That-“ She looked at the curly grumps as her mind tried to digest the plausible scenario, “-could be true.”

Something entirely unexpected happened. She was the one who bumped onto a rock, and yet, the mopped hair boy was talking nonsensical stuff in such a demeaning way. This time, it wasn’t about how gross or odd the girl acted which as a matter of fact, was not really a new thing. Worse. Either the audacity within him or the underdeveloped brain that he might had, he made Winnie the villain that will ruin whatever his family had been trying to maintain. Blood purity. “Excuse you, did you just- what?” It caught her off guard. The girl genuinely thought he was just trying to cover up the crime that had been committed by his cousin’s hands forasmuch as the defensive reaction. But no, he was more of an insolent little prat than a loving older brother figure.

The disgusting words from his pretty mouth were unfair. No one could possibly choose the kind of family they were born in. It was luck of the draw, unaware as a baby can be. And yet, he used it to make a prejudiced comment. “Why does it matter if you have a ‘combed bloodline’? What’s so great about it that makes you think it is something worth bragging about? Your blood cure diseases? 24k gold running through your vein? He’s the one who should be grateful to be with a person like Winnie. She’s kind, strong, and smart, definitely not a wimp and that has nothing to do with her status.” It may sound somewhat cliche, but what do you expect from a twelve year old kid who had little exposure to the dark side of the world. A conversation regarding Winnie’s blood status had never come up beforehand, not that it was an important thing, though, she could guess from the invisible cynicism that wrapped around his tongue. All she wanted to do at that point was to defend a friend.

Was it power they seek to gain from seeing others as less than an equal? Some said it was just a way to hide the insecurity, the fear of getting defeated. Not much different than what happens every single day in the muggle world. Social hierarchy. Some treated others based on their outer appearance. Living a comfortable life, education, jobs, and health sometimes depend on how wealthy or influential someone is. It is wrong, but it is the kind of world we live in. Separated in fractions, the ‘stronger’ destroys the ‘weaker’. Aurora had stop her high pitched scream, but there was an apparent animosity in her voice. “Just because she doesn’t have what you have, it doesn’t automatically make you the superior one.” He really needs to be careful. If he proceeds to slander Winnie or the non purebloods more thoroughly, it would be like dropping a match in the powder barrel. “I don’t appreciate you talking about her in such a degrading way.”

On the other hand, the foul player’s stiff demeanor slipped through under her nose. All she heard was him giving a neutral answer. The focus of her eyes was on the duffus with lenses in front of his face trying to punch him with a stare. “What about you, curly head? Do you agree with him?”

Sensitive about their rearing. Who could blame them, with the haves and the haves nots and the revelation that life is not fair. It was a childish fairytale to believe otherwise, that everyone had the same chance. That without making any effort, things would end up the same.

"Oh please," Jurgen replied to the burrito's rant. "People are born pretty, born clever, funny, ambitious and capable. They are given opportunities because their parents have means, better genes or because they were raised with tender care. It is all outside of our control." People that claim otherwise are liars. Everyone is looking for something in a partner, love is a lie, a romanticization of human relationships and coupling. "I am a pureblood, the product of generation after generation of purposeful coupling to ensure that I would also be a wizard. That I would be a Seer. That I had the greatest potential opportunity to be successful as a wizard, that when I find someone -- a pureblood Seer" rather than just a good time for a weekend "my children would have the same opportunities and advantages I have."

He looked at her with contempt. She was genetically blessed in that she was lovely to look at, but not to hear. He found quidditch players to be incredibly attractive, but that was really where the interest ended with the girl. "Your friend is a pleasant-faced, well-dressed doll," yes like the ones that she would play dress up with or see in the windows of the shop. "Being nice to look at, having a 'nice personality'" yes he made finger quotes when he said nice personality "makes her as valued as a well-trained and cared for housepet."

He peeled the tape that bound the blanket burrito all the same. "Your friend has nothing to offer Mathias, she is not worth his time." It was not the truth that she wanted to hear he was certain but it was the hard truth. The truth that nobody likes to say because it is 'impolite' but in the end there was something to be said for the care people like him and his family took in choosing their partner. The assurances that they gave their children. How comparatively selfish and short-sighted the rest of them were... It was utterly ridiculous.

To his great surprise, Nicholas found himself agreeing with the sentient burrito. He had his own hang ups about family and status, his own prejudices that had been drilled into him from an early age, and then compounded by visits to his grandparents’ residence. None of those prejudices related to the so-called purity of blood. Rather, ancient grudges had all but demanded that it be the opposite. His grandfather had waxed poetic about their ancient claim to nobility through their muggle line and any attempt to undercut the importance of such a claim brought naught but frustration to bear for the elderly man, and it seemed, for his descendants.

The other boy’s answer to her impassioned speech was exactly the kind of thought process that he had been raised to abhor, to oppose on principle. The importance of magical genetics was hogwash, the finest lineages were crafted through the mixing of powerful lines and the addition of new blood, not the careful intermixing of a limited pool. Such a plan led to disaster, it led to pugs. Perhaps, he would have been able to bite his tongue, however, he had been trying to focus on utilising his rage. That meant not allowing it to flourish and bloom at the slightest provocation, especially when it would offer no boon to do so.

Then Winnie was described as a valuable and well-trained housepet, because of her supposed low blood status. Nicholas couldn’t care about Winnie, but he saw red all the same. The implication was there.

“My mother is muggleborn,” His voice was breathy, an almost-hiss, and he continued, “and the purity of blood means nothing if the well it comes from is tainted. You compound weakness as much as you build upon strength, you court extinction.” The words were his own, yet they were not, a sermon heard so many times that it had become an ingrained part of his psyche. He clenched and unclenched his fist, before speaking again, with feelings entirely belonging to his own soul, “You imply my mother has nothing to offer. My mother.”

“Don't you dare question her value, as a woman or as a witch,” It was a threat begotten from a child, but Nicholas had every intention of following through with it.

He had not been speaking of her, true, but Nicholas hardly cared. The taint of bigotry and blindness did not extend only to one girl and her summer romance with a pureblooded cousin. He didn’t care to engage in the debate, what he desperately wanted was to slug the older boy in the head and storm off to the lake, maybe the icy waters would help him cool his head. But there was still the matter of the girl he was unbinding.

Nicholas’s own frustration with the girl’s shrieks and stories of misbegotten poisonings were lost as a far more deeply-ingrained anger had flared to the surface. He barely even registered that the girl may have been lying about her intentions, or that she may have still viewed them both as co-collaborators in some grand plot to kidnap her.

He would push past the other boy, taking care to clip the older lad with his shoulder in a not-so-subtle jostle as he did so, and would assist in hauling the girl to her feet.

“Maybe this little romantic escapade between his cousin and your friend may actually be good for their family,” He told her as he did so, “Enlighten them some.”

The other side of the nerdy Jeremy was taking over. And dear god, beg for mercy. It was a pain listening to him talking about how amazing his blood will always be, surpassed from generation to generation, and to his future little gremlins. What a narcissist. During the holiday, Aurora spent too much time on google trying to figure out how to breed a cat and a porcupine to create a catcupine. Then somehow she came across an article about cat and dog breeds, pure and mixed. This whole talk reminded her of that. According to the internet, true breeding could cause some disadvantages in the gene pool, it’s limited, and would have higher chances to acquire genetic diseases and congenital health problems. Her first reaction was utterly confused, brain.exe has stopped working. The Ravenclaw did not understand these scholarly words, but all she knew, they would die earlier. “Aww, so adorable! I can’t wait to see how long your purebreds will live since they are most likely will die out of premature death which obviously your most important goal.”

A well trained house pet, he said. How low could he sink? A disgusting remark came out from the pretty mouth of his. This was definitely enough to be a motive for him and who knew how many people with the same point of view to do a murder mass against ‘the non equal’. A sick and twisted mind. She was hoping this way of thinking is not what every purebloods believed in. And with that, he was asking for a punch, or two, or three, or unlimited. She was almost ready to destroy his eardrums. But what the other boy said stopped her. Rick Astley (nick), a grumpy boy with a hello kitty heart. Of course he would never let his mother down. Damn, his angry self is hot.

She had no intention in taking the glasses boy down nor gained any pleasure by doing so. Everything he said was insensitive, and only a moron would just stand back and watch him hurting others with his cursed tongue. While the harsh reality of purebreds hasn’t slapped him in the face, Aurora would love to give karma a helping hand. Or in this case, a helping foot.

Thank you heaps to the lovely curly boy and the vile son of Jeremy Senior, now that she was free from the cocoon, it was time for her to fly, like a butterfly, but violent. She would nod to Rick’s suggestion, for now. It would be a topic that will keep her up at night, whether or not she should let the lovebird be or continue to seek for the poison culprit. A more important thing needed to be given a lesson. Jeremy. He was way too tall if the less than 5 foot girl was aiming for his face. Quickly analyzed which area would be better to attack, potentially causing an immense pain for at least his whole life. A light bulb appeared near Aurora’s head as a sign for her ‘aha’ moment. The ultimate future little evils prevention barrage or what is commonly called as groin attack, was her chosen type of kick. “The only thing pure about you is pure arsehole, you Jerkemey!” She would do a full force kick right between his thighs. To her, it wasn’t a cruelty. Since words didn’t seem to be accepted, this probably would do a better justice. It was a necessity.

Nicholas was not a like-minded youth. It was a foolish sentiment, to think that everything was equal. To take offense to the truth. It turned into a qualm about the boys saintly mother. She was likely a fantastic kisser of booboos and cooker of muggle macaroni. What would she ever amount to? The best she could hope for is to be the matron of proficient progeny that surpassed the previous generation with only the meager tools at her limited disposal. The goal was to climb, to excel and to not risk familial gains.

That was the perennially difference between them. Not just he blood that was indeed laced with 24k, but also the fact that he knew what to do with the advantages he was afforded. The fact that he cared and for once his cousin's likely deviance had a defense. In truth Winnie was not good enough for any of them. "I am saying," Hess cleared his throat just to make certain that the words he had for Nick were especially clear. "That there is a difference, like it or not."

Aurora fell in love on this day, in spite of the fact that genetics failed to provide Nick with platinum blonde hair. Apparently his indignance on her behalf; his white knighting for the burrito-damsel was incredibly attractive to the weird, violent little girl. Little did Jurgen knew or intend, he just played matchmaker for the duo. What a dysfunctional love connection that would be.

She would try to kick the boy in the family jewels, gems more precious than her Hello Kitty Tea Set. Thankfully a spark of intuition saved future generations intimacy issues, he stepped back in time to have the sole of her foot narrowly miss his valued asset. He should have known that the girl would revert to her violent tendencies, "case in point" he muttered as the girl reinforced the boy's story about being a violent, reckless brute of a girl. He took a couple more steps back, whatever concern he might have had for the girl's safety. Whatever residual guilt he had harbored for inadvertently injuring her faded away also.

"Looks like I should get back to my poisoning cousin and save him from forcing some poor victim to improve her standing in wizarding society... like the true villain he is," Jurgen commented sarcastically as he continued to back away, failing to turn his back on the girl or the irked young man.

Nicholas didn’t give the other boy’s response the time of day, he didn’t deserve it. Talk of differences was farcical, that wasn’t what he’d been speaking to. He’d been trying his best to justify whatever nonsense had been drilled into him by an insecure father and a weak-willed mother. Talk of breeding and opportunity was the sort of limp-wristed fluff that was espoused by those that lacked the fire of passion to fuel them. The pitiful excuses of lame-duck purebloods the world over.

A grunt better befitting a dog than a twelve-year old boy would be all that he would offer. The girl could have the git, she seemed to be garnering more and more rage, and her brief respite from crazed ranting may end. It would be exactly what the other boy deserved, more annoying screams and lectures about how his cousin was some sort of Machiavellian mastermind.

He hadn’t expected her to actually try to hit him. He especially hadn’t expected her to aim for his groin.

Nicholas’s teeth clenched and he grimaced in an empathetic cringe, the mere idea of something coming close to that particular part of any man’s body sent chills running up and down the vertebrae in his back. Fortunately, Nicholas supposed, the other boy dodged it. It was odd, he had wanted desperately to clock the other boy in the head with a haymaker, but the mere threat to his family jewels almost made him take his side once more. Almost.

With the assault abated, the boy in glasses stalked off, his final lines parting as if he had somehow won a great victory. Aurora Ranvier had apparently proved his point for him.

“Oh come on,” Nicholas called out as he faded away, his voice more whiny than it had been, “That hardly counts as proof… I mean, she’s not exactly representative!”

He sighed once more, and re-ran his hand through the knots in his hair.

“You good?” He turned his attention back to the girl, a girl who he was almost certain had more in common with a feral cat than an actual human. Nicholas was no paragon of self-control, but even he had managed to restrain his more base instincts. “Head better?”

The questions were formulaic, and really all he wanted to make sure of was that she wasn’t about to collapse into a pile from an on-set concussion.

With the cousin and his new girlfriend entirely forgotten, not that Nicholas had ever particularly cared whatever two students with whom he had no connection did with their dating lives, he instead turned to the other more pertinent topic of conversation, “Don’t let that git get to you.” He spat, physically spat, “Pureblooded little... thinking he’s better than us because he’s got a mansion and a piece of paper that says he can trace his lineage back to Adam… It’s all an absolute load of…” His mutterings were too loud to be considered such in truth, angry ramblings that finally left his mouth now that he didn’t have to consider the other boy’s reactions.

Finally, he turned to the girl who had been dragged before him and jabbed a thumb in her direction, “Ignore him, you’re better than he is. You’re better than the lot of them.” He hadn’t really meant the words directly toward her, not explicitly. But the passion behind them was unabated.

Then, just as quickly as he had turned his attention to her, he turned and stormed off. He hadn’t bothered with a goodbye, he’d forgotten it, rather content to try and leave the girl standing alone in the spot to which she had been dragged.

It was because of that seer ability he had in him. Jeremy the fortune teller. He must have seen what Aurora would do to his precious organ. If only the curly boy helped her by pinning him down or something, everything would go ever so smoothly. There was no doubt that this particular Ravenclaw was very far from graceful, or smart, or talented. But still, the fact that she couldn’t be a good representative of the non pureblood society was a little hurtful. “EXCUSE YOU!?-“ As sharp as a dagger, she glared at the alleged ‘kidnapping boss’. Whether he had the intention to abduct her or not, that nickname would be easier to remember than whatever his real name is.

It felt as if she just swallowed hundred pounds of fire seeds, then it just accumulated inside her body, and the failure of her not so amazing attack was the end of it. “THIS ISN’T OVER YOU JEFF JEREMY JOHN WHATEVER! NEXT TIME I SEE YOU, YOU WILL SAY GOODBYE TO THAT-“ What is that thing that boy’s have down under? Not the best time to forget about stuff. “-GNOME!”

Stupid idiotic rudimenter nerd. She was back to her usual self, screaming and whining. Both hands were in the air, doing the most random movement, for what reason? We wouldn’t know. “GOD! THAT IDIOT FORTUNE TELLER!” Her rage was like fire. It burned so bright but died as fast as one blink, though, it will likely come back in the next encounter. “Y-yeah it’s fine.” No, she wasn’t. An Aurora Ranvier dictionary, if everything is fine, it’s not. And if everything's not fine, she’s in a war. But, if things are chocolate with rainbow sprinkles on top, she’s having a blast. “You hit me harder before, and I am still mad.” No translation needed, she resented Rick just a little, for a currently unknown reason.

Cursing once in a while was a nice feeling even though the girl was totally against it. Back home, her mother would hide her chocolate stash for a week for every bad word that came out, maybe it was one of the reasons she didn’t do that as much as the other (Violet carrington I’m looking at you). That day was an exception. Her mother wasn’t there, and that psychic deserved every curse word ever existed in the world. “Shit” Aurora inserted an appropriate word between the grumpy curl’s angry mutter, “Shit” not long after she did, once the thrill of using ‘adult words’ washed over, she felt a lump in her throat as if she just swallowed a spoonful of sand. “It’s my first time swearing, and I did lots of it today, my tongue feels all muddy.” Yuck.

A thumbs up directed to her, making the girl did the same thing as she sent a warm smile. What he said was a really nice gesture whether he meant it or not. “Y-you too, u-uh, watch your st- uh, take care!” Watch your step? Take care? He was the one who bludgered her twice until she was about to pass out. Don’t watch your step, go fall into a pit and suffer! “I’M GOING TO BONK YOU SOME MORE TOO! NOT NOW, BUT LATER!”

As his figure faded away, she was alone again at last. And now, Aurora didn’t know what to do, just stared at her surroundings, utterly confused. “Wait, so am I getting kidnapped or what?”
