Hey, Stranger
24th October, late afternoon
@Thomas Lestrange
As the days drew darker with clouds that swamped over what little light remained, Falentra still managed to be dressed for the complete opposite. With some skin-tight black jeans that ended around her shins and a loose-fitted top that barely reached her waistline. Her scuffed, muddied shoes that she often played football in stood out like a sore thumb against the rest of her pristine outfit. The belt clung uncomfortably round her body, though it was needed to avoid the embarrassment, and further irritated attempts on having to pull up her pants. A more comfortable and sensible wear would be the easier option, however, Falentra enjoyed looking good. Not so much to empress, but to express herself.
A usual route was taken on her afternoon walk before dinner. Not even a month had past and she was already needing some air, or more so a cool down. Her peers weren't something she enjoyed being around, even still, after trying to bite her tongue and be...nice. She had just come to terms with not being a people person, and yet she still had to spend most her days being within a group of them. It was absolute agony.
So much so that the thought often brought her mind to the Ball that was to come in the following week. More crowds, more interactions and undoubtedly more chaos. A part of her knew the better choice was to simply not go but the other part of her had heard rumors that Howard White was taking that.. pretty Millie girl. The nerve. Sure, they still weren't dating but... that wasn't the point! It was obvious jealousy, as much as she told herself otherwise, her stubbornness was leaning towards her attending. She had friends that were most likely to attend anyway.
The walks helped, and often left her mind pondering throughout the peaceful stroll, though today there seemed to be an obstacle- no... a. ugh. A fellow student, no doubt, stood not far ahead. They had a familiar presence to them, though she couldn't quite picture it from where she were. Of course she walked on, outwardly unfazed by their presence then slowed once she was able to make out exactly who it was. Thomas Lestrange. A boy she hadn't seen in what seemed like forever. From what she remembered, their last encounter was at the Blossom Ball and the experience was, well, unexpected which made a wave of either awkwardness or nerves rush through her boy. To turn now seemed pointless and stupid, so she walked on knowing full well he was to stop her too, if he hadn't already.
''Hey, stranger.'' There was no right way to start a conversation with Falentra. It was almost always painfully dull to talk with her. Be it her monotone voice that often left people questioning if she was happy or bored, to her dry humour, or at best, the cold calculating stares she unintentionally gave.
Thomas however, though she new very little of him, was a big boy and far from stupid. A cold stare, or a blunt response wasn't going to send him crying. They had after all been introduced through a small brawl.

Hey, Stranger
Rarely does Thomas Lestrange operate without a greater picture behind every action. A calculating boy that spent far longer than needed in planning his approach to life’s problems. Some of this due to the way he was raised, his mother always placed emphasis on critical thinking in early childhood learning sessions. To question what we’re told, even if the evidence is plain as day. It’s simple, things are not always as they seem.
Life has it’s own organic form of deception. We go through cyclic emotions, processing how the world makes us feel. At times we are content, and other times we are not. How much of what we feel is a ruse, is up to interpretation. Our minds adapt to the world around us, sending signals of joy, sadness, or what have you. Though zooming away from an individual, the only aspect of importance is that we feel something, anything. A beautiful reminder that we are alive, and one we fail to appreciate in moments of great pain.
The pain, however, can mute the senses. We drift from feeling, seeking asylum and waving the white flag. Our subconscious dulls these feelings if the individual wills it. Shattered pieces and teardrops from year’s past leaving us to run at the first sign.
It was a way to describe Thomas when he visited the Great Lake for the first time in his third year—dull, empty. His subconscious no longer the primary facilitator of his neglect. Instead a willing effort to resist the feelings and bury them away. Though nobody can permanently hide from life’s blows. It always has a way of finding you again.
Thomas donned a pair of dark jeans and a ruffled white t-shirt, a Slytherin crest displayed where the traditional chest pocket would be. Stoic blue eyes still as the water that lay before him, examining the fine details of each ripple. From his rear, a familiar voice drew his gaze. Finding Falentra Black to stand there in a mild greeting, suggesting the afternoon in the courtyard was far behind them.
Though when Thomas first looked upon Black, he would only see the face of Howard White. The girl’s former squeeze, though the last Blossom Ball solidified their separation. Seeing the reddened eyes from the dhampir, paired with the spiky hair and intimidating stature. The long claws emerging from his fingertips, and embodiment of fury. As Thomas has not seen the good side of Howard. To no one’s surprise, Lestrange has a way of bringing the worst out of people.
”I hope you’re not here to kick my ass this time.” Thomas offered a short smile pairing with a defeated tone. Though he could deduce from Falentra’s approach that she was not here to act on past rage. ”I’ve been doing fine on my own anyway.” He turned his head back towards the lake, feeling a chill climb through his limbs from a heavy breeze that sent drops of water impacting his forearms. ”Still not back with White, huh?”

Key mention: @Howard White

Hey, Stranger
@Thomas Lestrange
While she didn't know Thomas well enough to judge him in confidence, his demenour was far from what she was expecting. No quick-witted response or funny look was given, just a light-hearted joke. She was at least expecting a dig in relation to herself and Howard parting. Instead his attention quickly retreated back to the lake. Hers too followed and admired the view.
A smile wanted to make an appearance by this point though she fought it off and replaced it with
furrowed brows. If she was to fold her arms, she'd look like some stroppy toddler that hadn't got its own way though to her, she thought it made her look more stern and unapproachable.
Of course the moment of admiring the view had to come to an end, it just happened to not be in the way she had liked. The mentioning of Howard seemed to have been brought up after all. It was a touchy subject to be spoken of, even more so with a person she wasn't properly acquainted with. Her furrowed brows changed to an arch and her eyes flickered over to him, momentarily, to make what she could of his expression. ''No.'' Her response was short, as always, but a hint of irritation was present.
''I haven't.. seen much of him really.'' It was true, but also a lie. Their last proper encounter was during the Spin the Bottle game, which ended with Falentra throwing punches at Serena, and Falentra having her hair pulled-- it was chaotic. The one and only time Falentra wanted anything but that.
If she was to have been in a daze from the thought, she'd of shook her head slightly to remove it. Eyes would have nervously shifted from him and to the lake before she continued. ''He's been hanging 'round with some other girl anyway, even takin' her to the ball. Some brat of a first-year. How low.'' A scoff followed from both jealously and the pure fact that he yet again hadn't attempted to ask her; she could only laugh, else she'd cry.
She had spoken too much already, and only hoped Thomas wasn't writing up a story in his head for his next article, so a quick change of subject was needed. She could ask him where he had been recently, but one; it wasn't her business and two; she didn't know him well enough to care. And with Falentra social skills as it were, it left her speechless for longer than she intended.
Her fingers wiggled before curling to form a fist. Her lingering jealousy was nibbling away at her and only thoughts of getting back at him played her mind. It was petty, but she was a young girl and dealing with the heartache of your first love never goes down well.
It was then that a spark came to mind, a brilliant idea. One that she knew would get Howard's blood boiling.
''Speaking of the ball, will you be goin' next week? Cause.. you know, if you are and all..'' It was painfully awkward and she hated the thought of being rejected. But if there was a chance to get back at Howard and make him jealous, then she had to at least try. ''Go with me.'' Her heart flipped with nerves and her fist twitched at the thought of pre-planning to swing a punch his way if he decided to refuse.

Hey, Stranger
News of the break up didn’t leave Thomas as satisfied as he would have expected. Ill will for Howard has since faded, buried underneath a series of revelations that have come to light in his real life. In a way, Thomas was beginning to let go of this hatred. The seasoning of pain has left the boy dull, seeking resolutions.
”Not Serena, then?” Not that the boy was ever certain of Howard’s interest in Serena, merely a ploy to rattle Falentra’s cage, effectively ending their relationship. Did it ever work, but the boy would ask himself if it was ever worth it. Though when Falentra spoke of Howard’s latest squeeze, the bitterness was more than evident. Still clinging to her feelings for the part dhampir.
”You were a first year once, weren’t you? Thomas smirked, a sheepish shrug to challenge her belief that a younger age was low as she described. ”No matter, I don’t think even Howard knows what he wants. Just temporary feelings.” As is the norm with any teenager, but even more so for Howard White. He’s always been an emotional boy, allowing them to get the better of his decisions. Thomas had many scars to prove it.
The next development, though unexpected…materialized as Thomas had intended it to when he planted the seed last ball. Falentra may have hung onto those words, or perhaps she’s adopted the agenda Thomas once had… taking him to make Howard jealous. Either way, the prospect of fun was a refreshing. Falentra was nice looking enough, seemingly prodded by her own demons. Not an overly lively personality, which was a sure requirement for Thomas’ ball partner.

Falentra Black was the first, in what felt more like a date than any previous. As to why, Thomas would not immediately identify. Maybe he’s attracted to girls after all. ”Say less. Thomas shrugged in agreement to join Falentra at the ball. ”Meet me at the entrance, fifteen minutes before evening’s start time.”
