"Read my lips, Beckett! FUCK OFF!"

If penalty laps could be doled out for language, Ami probably would have racked up more time flying laps than Alexx. She watched Quinn miss his backbeat, which was mildly concerning, before firing off a shot of her own. Rafael Despacito, her fellow king and highly attractive human, would be the target of her frustration, as she sent a bludger hurtling in his direction with an accuracy so focused that it was mildly disturbing. Although she had nothing personal against the Gryffindor chaser and co-captain, it was Quidditch. Some blood would have to be shed in order to secure a win.

However, her small win was immediately overshadowed by the plummeting of Serethen. "Shitballs!" she screamed, wincing as both the seeker and the chaser hit the ground. "Shit shit shit shit. Jesus christ," she muttered, glancing to her co-captain in mild panic. This was the definition of not good. "Damn that's tough," she mumbled, before throwing up a few covert and entirely unnecessary hand signals to Howard and Quinn about their strategy going forward, knowing they would pass it along to the rest of the team. They could still clinch the dub. She believed in them. Also, because badgers are just simply superior to lions SUCK ON THAT DETROIT. I KNOW THE BADGERS ARE COLLEGE AND THE LIONS ARE NFL BUT I DON'T CARE THIS IS A PRO-WISCONSIN HOUSEHOLD.

Quinn was a simple lad, he didn't ask for much. He thought himself a decent prefect, a decent captain, and a decent student. He'd like to think that all the hard work he put in would pay off so...why in the 9 feckin hells names was it so difficult to hit a single damned thing!! They were already taking losses with little to show for you. It was frustrating!

He glanced to Ami and then looked to the rest of the field. He quickly made a detour to fly right next to and Passed Ami. "Ami! Keep it together we've got this now let's get some revenge!" He'd high five her and go back to relay the next strategy to the rest of the team.

Once more, it seemed Gryffindor would snub their shot at Hufflepuff's sweet, unguarded hoops, leaving Howard no choice but to pick up the slack. Even his partner of last round, Rosie, would leave the Quaffle un-grabbed, instead hanging back to lifeguard her teammates. With no contest, Howard would have no trouble scooping up the ball, making a beeline for Gryffindor's wide-open hoops. But perhaps it felt too easy this time-- perhaps it felt off. Perhaps the lioness who struck fear into the hearts of others, Anastasia, would catch his eye from where she hovered across the pitch, sending a shiver down his spine and the Quaffle slipping from his fingertips. Regardless, the dhampir would get a taste of his own unsettling medicine.

Howard, however, would recover quickly, retrieving the Quaffle twice more uncontested and, giving Anastasia a wide berth, sent it soaring through the hoops twice in quick succession. The bell rang out, signifying another twenty points for Hufflepuff.

Neither team seemed to have let up after the previous bloodshed. On Hufflepuff's side, there would be no mercy for Gryffindor's seeker, Evelynn. Ami had been showing great promise right out of the gate, and would not let her team down now. She would send a nasty backbeat with a sharpshooter's aim towards Evelynn, who stood no chance of escape-- although not for a lack of effort. The seeker would twist away, but ultimately fall victim to the vicious Hufflepuff's attack. Taking the blow like a champ, she would hold tight to her broom, but another attack was already on its way. Teaming up with his fellow beater, Quinn would follow Ami's lead, sending a backbeat in Evelynn's direction. Although it carried not quite the same precision as his teammate's, what Quinn's lacked in accuracy it far made up for in sheer power. Evelynn's evasive attempts would once again prove unsuccessful, and she would be struck by the iron ball. Without a moment's break between the two hits, the seeker would be sent flying from her broom into the open air below.

Gryffindor, for their part, was not shy of bloodshed either. Taking a similar strategy to Hufflepuff, the two lion beaters would team up against a poor opponent-- namely, the redhead who had just struck a blow against one of their own: Ami. Griseldis would pull no punches with a backbeat of her own, sending the bludger flying with a deadly combination of force and accuracy. Ami would get a taste of what it felt like to be on the receiving end of a bludger as it slammed into her. With the badger preoccupied by her own beating, Gris' bludger would strike with the element of surprise-- just enough to send Ami tumbling from her broom. Luckily for the Hufflepuff, she did not have a date with the dirt just yet-- Ami would find herself safely on the back of Rosie's Cleansweep. It seemed as though the Hufflepuff pair, however, was far from safe as Kage's bat reared back in preparation. But mere moments before its impact with the iron bludger, a flicker of hesitation, of unease, came over Kage, and his bludger would fly far and wide from the pair.

Gryffindor's theme this match appeared to be revenge as Akari, armed only with her broom and her will, set her sights on Quinn, the culprit behind Evelynn's fall from her broom. Undeterred by the promise of a penalty, Akari would fly directly towards the half-giant, consequences be damned-- and consequences there would be as she flew closer, closer-- and right past. Quinn would just eek out of the way of the blatch, leaving Akari with nothing to show for the foul lap she was forced to take.

It seemed to be nearing the end of this wave of violence, but poor Evelynn was not safe just yet, even after having been saved by Anastasia, who was on the lookout for just this purpose. Hufflepuff wanted in on the foul play too, and Atlas would be the one to take the dive. Confidently aiming for the pair of Gryffindors, Atlas would start out strong, but falter as she approached her target. Anastasia and Evelynn would easily maneuver out of the way of the incoming blatch, and Atlas, too, would be sent on a penalty lap of shame as the announcer called out her penalty.

"Kato, Reid! Each a penalty lap for attempted blatching!"

STANLEY auto-fails due to

Hufflepuff's second-string seeker leapt off the bench and into the air. It seemed as though Stanley, a second-string newcomer, would stand no chance against Gryffindor's seasoned and formidable first-string seeker, but the young Hufflepuff seemed enthusiastic and determined to win the match for his team. But his first moments in the sky would remind him that enthusiasm alone wouldn't drop the snitch into his hand. High in the air, a feeling quite strange would send a shiver down the boy's spine. Rather unsettled, Stanley would come no closer to catching a glimpse of gold.

Evelynn, however, would feel no such nerves. Even after taking blows from powerhouse duo called the Hufflepuff beaters and now residing on the back of her teammate's broom, the Gryffindor seeker didn't seem to have lost focus for a moment, and her calm and confident composure would pay off. Just there, the sun glinting off of its golden body, was the prize every seeker longed for: the golden snitch, just waiting to be caught.

This was going to be one of the more unpleasant games in which Evelynn would have to participate, she quickly found. It was bad enough being subjected to relentless targeting, knowing that to fail to move for just one second would mean excruciating pain. But it was so much worse knowing that it was coming from a friend. That it was Procoppio sending those bludgers rocketing her way, bent on seeing her careening from her broom for the tumultuous descend to the ground below. But to split too much attention would mean losing on the snitch, and in this game, that just wasn't an option.

It had always been clear from her observations that Hufflepuff really had a loaded gun in the form of White. He was a master of the skies, through and through. There existed few, if any, who could reasonably contest him for the quaffle. Evelynn wasn't sure if it was the dhampir blood that coursed through his veins, or a superior make and model of broom, sheer talent, or some combination of all of that and more. The bottom line was that if White chose to go for the quaffle, he was likely to get the quaffle. If he blatched, his target would fall. She was by no means a fan of most muggle sports, but even Evelynn could recognize he was like Hogwarts' own quidditch Jordan.

And so Gryffindor's only real chance was to compete for the snitch and hope to steal a game there, something Evelynn set her mind to with a desperation she hadn't felt since the summer. Hardly staying still for a moment, she took to the strategy of attempting to cover as much ground as possible in her search for the snitch. While not as effective as a calm scan, she just didn't have the time. Nor did the rain really help. It pooled and blurred, the motion of the drops distracting and drawing her attention, creating reflections everywhere that could be mistaken easily for a snitch when they caught the wrong light. So she flew, and hunted.

A whistle sounded suddenly from the side. Too late, she glanced just in time to see the incoming bludger. She tried to evade, breath caught within her chest in choking surprise. Too slow. Pain exploded where it collided, hot as though she'd experienced a flash flame. Sharp, agonizing, enough to throw her forward on her broom as though it had attempted to buck her off. It didn't, but she found herself barely able to hold on. While the initial flash of agony had subsided somewhat, it lingered dully, throbbing painfully at her shoulder. It hurt to grip herself to her broom, and every movement sent waves of nausea through her.

She went on in silence, refusing to turn to see from whom the projectile had been sent. It didn't matter anyway. They were all there to win. Evelynn could hardly fault someone for doing what she would have done in their shoes, but that didn't mean it didn't carry its own sting. The only thing she could do would be to persevere. To hold tight. Fly on. Defy the opposition and emerge victori—

She blinked. Something pressed against her forehead. Stiff fabric damp with moisture with a certain warmth that emanated from somewhere deeper. Sounds seemed distant, as though underwater. Twisted, garbled, distorted. There was something in front of her. Obscurely shaped and moving. Groaning, Evelynn lifted herself from the surface. "Aargh.." A hand had lifted subconsciously to her throbbing head, the movement causing a sudden stab of pain that started in her shoulder and seemed to claw through her core. Enough to elicit a brief cry of agony. As uncomfortable as she was, however, the pain brought with it renewed clarity.

"What... what happened?" she inquired, realizing—judging by the golden '3' emblazoned on the back of the uniform that sat before her—she now shared a broom with Beckett. "Nevermind.." Evelynn followed up almost immediately. "It doesn't matter."

There was only one answer to that question anyway. They'd managed to knock her from her broom. That didn't bode well. Gryffindor was already disadvantaged enough with their distinct lack of senior members relative to the other teams, and they were short a seeker to boot. If Evelynn fell.. that was it. A flame of indignant ire flared within her core, serving to quell some of the pain that persisted. She still hadn't forgiven Adelard. The girl had been making fewer and fewer appearances to practice over the weeks leading up to the game and had ultimately submitted her notice to leave the team with fewer than 24 hours remaining before game day. Not enough time to find a replacement. It wasn't fair. But if anything, it only served to stoke the fire of resolution even further.

A sudden movement accompanied an approaching shadow, pulling Evelynn from her brooding, clearing thoughts. Another jolt of discomfort, another flash of disorientation as a ripple of nausea stole her vision momentarily. It cleared, albeit slowly, and she carefully raised a hand to clear the blurring of water from her eyes, but only managed to replace blurs with stars. She rubbed again, but it refused to relent, her vision swimming as though on the edge of consciousness. Stars and dots of silver and gold danced across her sig— wait. No.

"There it is!" she exclaimed, her eager pointing punctuated with another cry of anguish as the movement struck her all over again. If she didn't know any better, she'd think she might have broken something with that bludger...

"Oh, cool! You're the second person I've met whose family used to play quidditch. One of my dormmates has a grandmother who played for the Hollyhead Harpies. My grandma played for Puddlemere United!" She announced proudly, before realizing that maybe she should pay attention to the game. She didn't mind the cheating, because what were rules if not meant to be broken, but she winced when Hufflepuff scored two successive goals. "Oh, come on, she totally could have blocked that." She said of her teammate. The fact that they were falling behind so quickly was making her nervous. Hopefully their seeker managed to pick up the slack.

During the lap Haley tried to concentrate on the game, Hufflepuff had now scored a total of 50 points but her focus was on something else. Or rather someone else. Her gaze remained focused on Quinn. Even if her first attempt was a failure, she would not give up so easily. She knew what she was risking, but she also knew what advantage she could bring to the team.

The game must go one - her decision was made. She leaned forward in her broom, the target again clearly focused, and speed up on her broom. "You got this Haley." Whispered the young Gryffindor to herself, trying everything to keep up the courage this time.

Ana hated letting Hufflepuff rack up points with no opposition and sent a murderous glare the way of the Chaser(Howard) doing so. The Quaffle escaped his hand on the first attempt, but the subsequent ones were successful. Biting her lip, she turned her focus back towards Gryffindor's players.

It was a good thing that she did since she watched Decipio get hit one right after the other and the Chaser winced slightly. She would not want to be on the receiving end of any of those, especially in such quick succession. The second attack unseated Decipio and Ana dove for her, unaware of anything else happening in the game. While catching the Seeker and generally keeping them in the game was a priority in any game, it was especially so in this one and Ana wasn't about to fail.

Leaning further and further forward, her broom was nearly vertical when she caught Decipio. The noises she heard behind her weren't exactly reassuring, but Ana had worked with her long enough to trust her to get it together and didn't look back.

Not looking back was certainly the right call, as a latching Badger sped their way. In a bit of not-entirely-necessary showmanship, Ana played a bit of chicken before pulling sharply upwards, skyrocketing away from the threat. As she did so, Decipio pointed out the Snitch, and Ana changed her trajectory to catch it. She did shoot a glance back at the younger girl this time after she heard the sound she made. "Are you alright there, Decipio?" she inquired, eyes back on the Snitch to veil the unmistakable concern that was in her voice. Obviously, yes, she was the Seeker and Ana would prefer her alright for strategy purposes, but also, perhaps Ana didn't exactly dislike her as much as she may have wished to.

Long story short, I survived

Clutching her bat tightly, Ami scanned the pitch for her next target. Who to hit next? Having already sent an ouchie-bullet toward Rafael, she was looking to improve her hits to 2 for 2. Locking eyes on a certain redheaded Seeker across the pitch, a wicked grin found its way onto her face. Evelynn had witnessed her prowess with a bat during their morning practices, and now she was about to be on the receiving end of another ouchie-bullet.

Flying up to the first bludger she saw, Ami exhaled sharply as she sent the bludger careening toward Evelynn. She grimaced as the bludger hit her friend (they were still friends, after all-- it wasn't like she liked hurting her friends), although the Hufflepuff Quidditch Co-Captain part of her cheered when Quinn knocked her clean off her broom with another neatly-placed bludger. "Hell yeah, Quinn!" she cheered. "Let's keep this up!"

And then a bludger smashed into her side. Ouch. Surprised by the impact, she lost grip of her broom, tumbling through the air. This was it. This was how she died.

Until she nearly got impaled by another broom.

"Rosie..." she managed to wheeze out as a greeting to her fellow fifth year, the wind fully knocked out of her. "Oh shit, dawg... you're a real one, G."

After watching an iron ball target and whack right into the side of their co-captain and seeker, it immediately ignited a spark of vengeance in Akari. Not only did Akari shudder at the thought of pain she must be feeling, but the team also must keep Evelynn in the air at all times, now this being even more crucial than usual due to the cold empty spot on the bench below that lacked a second player.
So, with the desire to retaliate, Akari had thought she saw an opportunity to get rid of a scary opponent and took it, without caring about the later consequences. However to her great dismal, right as she was nearing her mark, he must of figured out her intentions for once she reached him he quickly moved out of the way. Dammit, now she’d have to take a lap for nothing. Oh well, she supposed it was still worth it to try and eliminate a threat.

With no visible remorse, Akari sent a brief side glare to the Hufflepuff beater, then sped off to quickly complete her penalty.

Quinn couldn't help how he was when a game was going. He'd even admit that he was sometimes a bit too competitive during matches. Chuckling to himself as he finally nailed someone again. He didn't feel guilt over the hit because this was a game and he'd make sure to visit them in the hospital wing to make sure they're alright.

He smirked when he heard Ami and continued to make his rounds on the field. It was time to keep going and see if they could come back and win it.
