On the Job
@George Henry @Jack Warren

Jake's eyes darted around Hufflepuff common room, searching out the distinctive features of his best friends, but none of them were anywhere to be found. Where was everybody when you needed them? Of course...Dinner. They must've already been at dinner.
The Hufflepuff hopped down the stairs two at a time, practically gliding on air as he hurried to the Great Hall to find them. There had been big news. News that he had to tell them about right away. News that HE was still trying to wrap his head around himself.
Jake's eyes scanned the Hufflepuff table, drifting towards the familiar spots where the three of them often sat. And aha! There they were! Whatever conversation they were having was soon interrupted as Jake hopped up onto the bench beside them, leaning forward on his knees and propping his hand on George for balance
"George! Jack! You guys!" the boy blurted out, staring at them, eyes wide. "...I got a job."
Jake let those words hang there. They sounded so strange.
"I'm gonna be the co-vice-captain of the Hufflepuff dueling team."
The words came out in a breathless outpour. It was near impossible to tell whether that outpour was excited or scared. Really, Jake didn't know himself. Disbelief was the only thing that was for certain. The only thing stranger than him having applied in the first place, was the fact that they had actually picked him. The small boy plopped himself down, straddling the bench and staring up at his badger brothers, wondering what they would make of this news.
