Alina yawned and stretched, sliding into the narrow gap of the gigantic doors she opened. It shut with a resounding boom and she winced. Hoping no one (prefects and Heads especially) heard the noise. It had been a long week with classes and she felt exhausted. But she felt a strange sense of pent up energy inside her. One of the reasons why she gave up tossing and turning in her bed all night, annoying the crap out of her dorm mates, to come to the ballroom to let it all out.

It was too dark and late to wander the Grounds and she had been to the Astronomy towers more times than she could count. No, tonight required a special type of relaxation: dance. Her mama had taught her the basic forms of ballroom dancing and even enrolled her in muggle classes that taught ballet and tap. Strange enough, ballet was the only one she found herself drawn in to. Alina loved how beautiful and delicate professional ballerinas looked and once had wished she could become one of them.

She turned on a soft, piano based piece and stretched out along the wooden floors. The tights and tank top she wore were tight on her thin body. It was rare for her to wear clothing like this and she love it. After her warm up, she stepped hesitantly to the music. Getting a feel of what she used to do. She incorporated many of the different dance techniques she had learned in her classes into this dance. It was messy and raw and all over the place, but it was hers.

Alina lost herself in the music and it wasn’t until the door creaked open loudly and slammed with a vengeance that she startled, tripping over her own foot and landing in a heap on the ground. She let out a startled cry and looked wildeyed to the stranger who entered. “You scared me half to death!” She breathed, holding a hand on her chest, the beginning of a smile on her lips.

It said open, and I already responded to the other one....

He wasn't sure why he had slammed the door. It was probably to let her know he was there, so that he wouldn't startle her. So many people had been using this place to hide and dance. Or at least he had been hearing stories about it. It had been interesting, and so he had gone to investigate. Someone had said that he had quietly watched a girl dance once, and had gotten yelled at, so he wasn't all too thrilled about having that happen to him. The logical solution, of course, was to slam the door so she wouldn't be surprised. Of course, that plan had backfired, and ended with her in a heap on the floor. Which was not at all according to any kind of plan he may or may not have had.
"sorry."
He would have left it there, and escaped out the door, but he knew the girl that was now in a pile on the ground. She was really nice, and besides, her dance was interesting. Maybe she could teach him how it worked. Abandoning his hasty apology, he went with questions.
"What kind of dance was that? Could you teach me?"

"Sorry," Came a quiet voice from the dark. Even with the small amount of candles that lit the ballroom, she still had to really squint and see who it was. Dark, ruffled hair and a soft smile on his lips. She recognized him. "Kaegen!" She cried out, getting up to rush forward and gather the boy into a hug. "Geez, don't sneak up on me like that!" Alina scolded, letting go to put her hands on her hips. "I thought you were a prefect. I almost got caught the one time I had sneaked out to the Greenhouses. Honestly, with my luck, I'm gonna end up getting caught soon!" She stepped back to stretch her leg quickly, and then did a quick pirouette, her laughter echoing in the empty room.

"What kind of dance was that? Could you teach me?" She looked at him, and could almost swear he had stars in his eyes. Alina grinned.

"That was a combination of many different types of dances. Ballet, ballroom, tap, tango. My mama wanted me to be exceptional on my feet so I took a lot of classes." She blushed. "But what you saw was kinda a mish-mash of everything. Kinda embarrassing actually. I can teach you a couple things. Like ballroom." Alina suggested, before pulling Kaegen further into the dance floor, and placed one hand on his shoulder, and held the other out. "This is a basic ballroom dance. Put your hand on my upper back and hold my other hand." She instructed. "The box-step is the easiest. We just move in a box, it's super easy. Just follow me," Alina felt excited, it had been a long time since she had danced with anyone, and loved it.

"Don't get caught, try to be quieter. Maybe a little smoother."
Honestly, everyone here at hogwarts was incredibly jerky. Or at least it looked that way to Kaegen. There wasn't anything wrong with jerky, it was just not very quiet. She had looked like she was doing a pretty good job dancing, anyway.
He followed her instructions, trying to place his hands in the right places. He didn't do a terribly good job of it, but what he did do, he did smoothly, softly. With some sense of purpose. He had learned a little dance, but not very much, and he couldn't remember most of it. Just follow her, right? Do whatever she does, It wouldn't be too hard for him. Or at least it shouldn't be. Thinking something was going to be easy always ended with it being way too hard. Still, he doubted she would start off with something that was far beyond his skill level. His eyes darted around the vast empty room, it looked haunting, peaceful. A little bit foreboding, if you looked at in a certain light. He looked back down at the girl, who looked anything but foreboding. She looked happy, and cheerful. Like a flower bobbing to the breeze in the sunlight. He idly wondered if she had finally killed the darkness as he waited for her to start.

"Don't get caught, try to be quieter. Maybe a little smoother." He scolded, and she blushed, rolling her eyes.

"Easy for you to say. You walk like the wind. Completely silent. You'll have to teach me that kind of gracefulness and quietness." She giggled. Before she started to move the pair around the floor. Alina pushed at Kaegen's feet where she wanted them to go in the box step.

"Perfect, take a step back, then to the side," She murmured, kicking his feet softly as she moved them until she felt he kinda got an idea of what she wanted. "Perfect, we can pick it up a little more now..." Alina whispered, a large smile on her face. She felt such joy in her heart dancing again, especpailly with a partner. It reminded her how rarely she ever touched another human being. It struck a cord with her, and she realized she needed to make an effort to make more contact.

She knew that Kaegen wasn't a touchy person. Heck, she was pretty sure he flinched the first time she hugged him, but she did anyways. Because maybe he was like her. Touch deprived. While she craved it, maybe he feared it. Maybe it was just her imagination in overdrive.

Alina continued to move around the dance floor with Kaegen to the ballroom music, kicking his feet softly in the direction she needed them to go, as he was her male lead. "It's been so long since I danced like this. Thank you for indulging me. You dance really well!" She exclaimed, avoiding his gaze. "Have you danced before?" She asked, adjusting her grip on his shoulder.

"Don't walk like me, it's not good. Just walk a little bit smoother"
He walked like a beast of the forest, only smoother. He had the upbringing of a wild creature and was one of them, chained to nothing but his words, and the promises that always anchored him to a reality he didn't belong to. The only difference between him and a creature was his brain, his ability to read and write and cast spells, his ability to come up with ideas and plans and visions. But even his vision, the one that he thought made sense in a logical sense, made too much logical sense. It was the vision of an animal. To survive anything. It was pure, and savage but he thought it to be something new, he thought it to be his. Like some new innovation, like an original dream thought up by a new age visionary. It wasn't his. The dream belonged to all creatures. This girl was human, through and though. She was bubbly and cheerful and happy and all the things that a thing born of mist could only observe from a distance. She would never walk like him, and he was very happy about that.
They started to dance, he was leading, somewhat, as she poked his foot with hers, giving gentle little kicks to show him where to go, how to go there. He wasn't doing a good job. At first he was failing miserably, smoothly stepping in all the wrong places. But with her guidance, he eventually started to get the hang of it, eventually started to understand how to move. It was weird for him to move like this, he wasn't used to it. It was a bit like relearning how to ride a bike. You sort of know how to do it, you just have to get used to it again.
She thanked him, and then complimented him. He would have to find some words to respond with, have to give her an acceptable answer. She was avoiding his eyes, as they busily searched her face, so he moved his face a bit closer, and to the side. Positioning it a bit awkwardly in front of her face as she asked him if he had danced before.
"You are welcome, thank you for teaching me. You dance far better than I do. Grandfather taught me a little bit, but not very much."
