Making Up for Lost Time
Katrina took a seat on the cool floor of the Small Hall, letting her head rest on the wall behind her. A long and drawn out sigh escaped the fourth year. After a moment of just sitting there, feeling very dramatic, she swung her bag around to rest in her lap. There was definitely a lot of homework that required attention, but she honestly couldn’t bring herself to even open her book bag to look at any of it. Several moments passed before Katrina got out her wand, spinning it in her hand in the way she’d just recently taught herself to do.
Katrina’s mind was spinning, turning in a million directions at once, thoughts pulling one side and the other, the dull pounding of her heart reverberating in her head. It was definitely stress. 100%. No doubt in her mind. Between school, Liam, her guardians, the ever growing pile of letters, her social life taking a painful nosedive, upcoming dueling matches, and just the general anxiety of being a teenager. Just thinking about what she really needed to tend to just made Katrina want to push away from it. A few more moments of internal turmoil passed before the Gryffindor stood up and brushed a few spare hair strands out of her face, surveying the other people around.
There were a fair number of people around, doing whatever things. Katrina took a chair at random next and jumped on top of it. Mid-jump she tucked herself so that she landed cross-legged, the impact bouncing on the cushion just a bit. There was someone to one side of her and a few other people around. What better way to deal with crippling overwhelming feelings than to bother whoever else was loitering the Small Hall on a random Friday.
It was something of an existential crisis the girl was having. At least she was aware of what was happening, even if she was in deep denial of it. So much of what Katrina had been feeling was a loss of childhood. She’d been forced to be mature and responsible at such a young age that she was now determined to relive her childhood again. It was one of those moments where most teenagers would dye their hair or cut their bangs or start wearing a new style of outfits. Instead, Katrina just wanted to change something, but she wasn’t sure what yet exactly.
Back to the person whom Katrina just sat down beside. No use getting so stuck in her own head. “Why hello there,” Katrina said, still haven’t yet looked them over to determine whether she knew them or not. Rather than continue to say anything meaningful, she just tilted her head slightly to one side and waited for them to say something to determine how she was going to progress the conversation.

Making Up for Lost Time
@Katrina WalkerIt could be said that River’s reason for being in the small hall was a waste of time. Though she wouldn’t say so herself. She just enjoyed sitting there, and watching all the different students walk by as they were heading for their respective classes or dorms. Or wherever else they were headed. All the homework on her desk in the common room though, was screaming at her that she had better things to do with her time. Today was just not the day for homework. Ever since she’d experienced all the different crazy events that had gone down at Hogwarts, she’d noticed a big drop in her ability to focus on different tasks. She might be able to work on a herbology paper for an hour, but then she’d end up just sitting there staring at the parchment, as if she was waiting for something to magically appear written in ink.
It was stressing her out, but at the same time she didn’t have the energy to be stressed out. She just didn’t know how to cope with this feeling of being unable to get herself to do something that she’d always been so good at, and something she usually found to be quite simple, and rewarding. But no, now her time was often spent sitting around, trying to think about anything other than school, Hogwarts and everything that happened last year. This year will be different. It would be better.
River flinched and snapped to the little owl resting on her shoulder, who’d just nicked her ear, “Ouch! Don’t do that”, she hissed at Little-Hoot, who seemed to be getting impatient sitting around. Though he was free to go wherever he wanted, therefore River couldn’t care less if he was complaining. “Go for a lil flight then if your wings are itching so bad to go”, she said annoyed and signaled to the doors. The little owl simply sat still on her shoulder, eyeing his companion in defeat.
Before long, another student hopped down next to the two of them. With a quick glance in the corner of her eye River easily made out who it was. Well hello Kat, long time no see”, she smirked slightly, still looking straight ahead. “It’s good to see you’re still up and running”, she added and turned to the girl. The gryffindor looked the same as before. Well almost. There was something different about her. Maybe not directly physical, but still her vibe was somehow more mature than the last time River had been around her. Though she guessed that made sense, it had been quite a long time ago. And a lot can change with time.
