So Blood Purists Still Exist...
after classes, 6th September 2021So far, the new school year was going perfectly for Gabriella. She had entered the year with a sudden desire to be productive, and the back-to-school excitement was still very much present in the new second-year's mind.
You know when it's the start of a new year at school, and suddenly homework is fun, and even the slightest thing like using a new pen really excites you? That was what Gabriella was experiencing, and she was loving it. All the homework she had been assigned so far she had done almost as soon as it was set, and today was no different. Charms. Finite Incantatem was the spell in question, a charm the second-years had learnt in class that day, and Gabriella had a couple of long-answer questions about it. It shouldn't take her long, and then she would go back to the common room and maybe read a book or draw a little by the fireside. She knew all too well that this studious, productive mood could never last, but she supposed she may as well make the most of it while it was there.
Some students were making a mess in the Ravenclaw common room, so Gabriella decided she would be better off doing her homework in the Study Room. Only a few other students were in there. Excellent, thought Gabby. I can have some peace. As usual, Aster, her toad, was sleeping, so he wouldn't be bothering her much. She scooped him out of the pocket of her cloak and laid him on the desk. He didn't stir. (Occasionally, when he was new, Gabriella had wondered whether Aster was dead. Later on she discovered that he was just very, very sedentary - a lazy old toad, in other words - and that he was just dreaming. Gabriella wondered what he dreamed about, and some of her ideas could be quite fantastical, but that's a story for another time.)
The Ravenclaw sat herself down and took out her Charms textbook and parchment from her satchel, as well as the ballpoint pen she often used to complete assignments. This, she thought, was a work of genius, if she did say so herself. Gabriella had come up with the idea of completing her work with a biro late in first year, and it had worked a charm. She had even made a new friend out of it - Everly, the pure-blood girl who was eager to learn Muggle ways. It was just so much easier to complete her work with a ballpoint pen rather than with a quill - no smudges, no awkward dipping of nib every two seconds - and while she did occasionally use a quill in class, most of her work was done with a biro and nobody ever batted an eyelid.
Right, she thought, looking at the first question. 1. What is the etymology, wand movement, incantation, and pronunciation for Finite Incantatem? What will this spell not work on? Immediately, the Ravenclaw began to scribble the answer. This was easy; they had performed it in class just that day and Gabriella had managed.
The spell Finite Incantatem, she wrote, is derived from the Latin words finire, meaning to end, and incantationem, meaning enchantment. It is spoken finite instead of finire because it is in the imperative, or in other words it is an instruction. Gabriella was sure she didn't need the grammatical rant, but she was in the mood for extra credit points. To perform the spell, you need to say the incantation, Finite Incantatem, pronounced fi-NEE-tay in-can-TAH-tem, and do the wand movement, a diagonal line up to the right, a straight line down, then a diagonal line up to the left. This spell does not work on Unforgivable Curses, Fiendfyre, or other curses which already have a counter-curse.
Right. Next question.
Gabriella read the next question, a ten-marker (Name three practitioners of this spell and state what year and why they had to use the spell) and was about to write out her answer when she was interrupted by a voice.
Excellent, thought Gabriella. Just typical. My nice quiet study session interrupted by some random person trying to talk to me... Irritably, she looked up from her work and turned her head round to see who the perpetrator was.Word count: 722

After Classes
New school year means another new school subjects to learn. At this point Cash could care less if the school assignment are outside their favorit. Their favorite are Astronomy, Charms, Herbology and Potions. Also Quidditch. But Quidditch unfortunately was not a school subject.
Before they went back to school, their mother had asked them what other subject that Cash will learn upon they move up to Third year. Cash rolled their eyes at their mother. Their mother should had known it as she also had went to this school many years ago. But to keep the conversation going Cash told their mother the other four elective classes.
The subject for that elective subjects are Ancient Runes, Care of Magical Creature, Divination and Muggle Studies. After the green eyes mentioned Muggle Studies to their mother, their mother exclaimed in delight. She told Cash to take that particular subject as one of their elective for the new year.
And so to please their mother - since their mother insist Cash need to send an owl as a proof stating that they indeed take that subject - the Beater obliged. Truth to be told, Cash like the Professor that taught the particular subject but for the class itself, not so much. The Cuban descendant did not see the appeal of learning one subject that beneath them.
So after today classes had ended; Cash change into much comfortable outfit. They took their ink, quill and parchment also the Muggle Studies homework with them and marched toward the Study Room. They could work that assignment in the comfort of their own Common Room but Slytherin students are best known as a rowdy one and Cash really need to focus on their school work.
Upon entering the Study Room, not a lot of people use the room. Cash could count one hand how many people lingered on the room. Without any hesitation Cash marched toward one of the unoccupied table next to a brunette girl who holding some kind of writing equipment that Cash rarely see it.
"This is ridiculous!"Cash exclaimed to themselves in Latin as they slammed their Muggle Studies school work on the table rather hard alongside their own writing material. The young socialite then dragged the chair outward noisily. Several heads turned at their way. Some even dare to throw glares at them.
"What? Mind your own bloody business!"Cash expressed as they also throw a glare back to the the peopel who see them wrong. After the young Ironwoods said that, some of them shook their heads and they continued to their own work. Cash looked around and it seems people also deep in their own thoughts while doing their respective school works.
The Beater should have done their assignment but Cash not in the mood for that. Their green eyes then landed on the brunette that sit not that far from them. "Yo!"They called out the other girl and Cash is was too egotistical to care whether they disturbed the other girl or not.
"You with the funny looking writing equipment, what do you think about Muggle and Muggle - Borns in general?"They inquired the other girl, not knowing that particular question would lead into some confrontation between Cash and Gabriella.

So Blood Purists Still Exist...
Gabriella looked round to see a student a little older than she was looking curiously at her ballpoint pen. Well, this was nothing new, she supposed, thinking about her encounter with Everly last summer. A couple of moments earlier, somebody had come in and exclaimed something in a language she didn't know, and had then been quite rude about it afterwards - but Gabby hadn't bothered to see who it was. However from the look on the student's face she could guess it was them - they looked quite brutish and somewhat intimidating, the Ravenclaw thought, and she had an inkling that the curiosity with which they looked at her biro came from a bad place, rather than a genuinely interested one.
However, rudeness must be met with kindness, as her parents had often told her when she was a kid. Love your enemy, they had told her. That's what Jesus said. Well, Gabriella hadn't really been following that when it came to her complicated relationship with Tory Williamson, but she didn't want to go making any more enemies, so she responded politely. Always assume the best in people, that was something else her mother had always told her, and something else she definitely hadn't taken into account when she first met Williamson. But the Gryffindor had turned out to be horrible, so it seemed her inklings were correct. Or maybe it was just a coincidence.
Anyhow, the Ravenclaw was determined to be nice this time.
"You with the funny writing equipment! What do you think about Muggles and Muggle-borns in general?" they asked.
"Well," responded Gabriella, her voice calm and level, "I am a Muggle-born, and I suppose I'm just glad that Muggles can have wizard kids. I love being immersed in this world, and I don't feel out of place, or anything. I'm really happy here, actually."
She didn't care whether or not the student meant it kindly - she assumed not, although she had always thought blood purists were very rare these days - but whatever, she was going to answer kindly.
"If you want to know what the pen is, it's called a biro," continued Gabby, "or a ballpoint pen. Muggles use them. They're very efficient. You can try if you want!"
Something about them made Gabriella almost certain that they weren't going to accept her offer, but she thought she may as well try it - after all, Everly had tried it out and the girls had become friends afterwards. Maybe her relationship with this person - whoever they were - would follow in a similar vein.Word count: 434

It seems their obnoxious called succeeded making the other girl looked at their way. Gabriella stopped doing her task for moment and gave her respond toward Cash query. "Well, I am a Muggle - born, and I suppose I'm just glad that Muggles can have wizard kids. I love being immersed in this world and I don't feel out of place or anything. I'm really happy here, actually"
Cash listened to what Gabriella said. The Cuban descendant squint their eyes then a half - sneer formed on their lips. "That very brave of you to say you are a Muggle - bornw"Cash then doing a slow mock clapped toward the other girl. "You glad that Muggles can have a wizard kids? I say you and your kind should not have exist at all"The Beater said sharply.
"You and your kind are a disgraced"Cash stated then looked at Gabriella up and down, sizing her. "Just because you can do magic, it does not mean you are special or whatever. Hogwarts should not have open its door for you and your kind, mud. Dealing with Half - bloods is one thing but this school had to stoop so low allow Muggle - borns is beyond me"Cash stated like it a normal things to say.
The young Ironwoods then looked at the writing equipment that in Gabriella's possesion. The dark haired Ravenclaw girl explained what the stationery is called and what type it is to Cash. The Beater may or may not used it once. They remembered one time one of their aquaintance introduced them but it had been a long time ago.
It is definitely more efficient and practical to use than quill but it was not in the young socialite's custom to use for their day to day daily basis. "No thanks"Cash declined Gabriella's offer to use her biro or as the Quidditch player kindly put it a ballpoint pen. "I bet another witch or wizard you had met were facinated by that vile thing but I don't"Cash expressed.
"So I just stick to the real thing unlike whatever you use right now"The Cuban desendant said as they picked up their quill and shook it a little infront of Gabriella in mocking gesture.

So Blood Purists Still Exist...
As soon as Gabriella had given her pro-muggle manifesto, she wished she had never said anything. As the Ravenclaw had predicted - but chosen to ignore - this person was very anti-Muggle, and a pretty extreme blood purist, it seemed. Gabby listened for a while as the stranger reeled off her blood-supremist views - you and your kind should not exist at all; you and your kind are a disgrace, Hogwarts should not open its doors for you and your kind; the fact that Hogwarts opened its doors to muggle-borns is below me.
Gabriella winced, but tried not to show it on the outside. I must not seem weak, she told herself, determined. She could put up a pretty imposing show of it if she tried - she was taller than most kids her age, and her jet-black hair and pale features really accentuated her sharp jawline - and the Ravenclaw was determined that, if she could rise above it, she could give off the cool air of being totally nonplussed.
"I'm terribly sorry you feel that way," said Gabriella, calmly. "Tell me, does bitchiness run in the family, or is it just you that's a disgrace to your kind?" She asked the question with an air of casual curiosity, though she knew full well she was crossing a line.
Gabriella turned her attention back to the ballpoint pen. "Yes, actually," she said casually, Another pureblood I know was very interested in my biro. She seemed very intrigued by Muggle things in general, actually. Maybe you should aspire to be a bit more like her!" Gabby flinched as the stranger aggressively waved her quill in the Ravenclaw's face. "Who are you, anyway?" asked Gabby. "I'm Gabriella Haworth. Pleased to be acquainted." She held her hand out for the other student to shake, smirking as she anticipated the stranger's reaction.Word count: 311

"I'm terribly sorry you feel that way,"The Ravenclaw stated calmly. Cash looked at her and then let out a scoffed. "Tell me, does bitchiness run in the family, or is it just you that's a disgrace to your kind?""Gabriella inquired the third year. The green eyes looked down on their nails, checking whether there's a grim between their nails or not.
It was just minutes in and Cash was already bored with this conversation. For the name-calling did not phase them. Cash then averted their eyes from their nails up to Gabriella. "Is that the best you have got?"They said then smirked. Though the last part about being a disgrace to their kind irked them, Cash did not show it.
"To be honest, that is how I roll"Cash stated briefly. They did not need to explain themselves to Gabriella but as a Pureblood kid who has a big ego and from time to time full of themselves, Cash feels like they need to put Gabriella in her place. After the Cuban descendant said there's probably another witch or wizard that was fascinated by the thing Gabriella used, the other girl went into great length proving her point.
"Yes, actually, another pureblood I know was very interested in my biro. She seemed very intrigued by Muggle things in general, actually. Maybe you should aspire to be a bit more like her!"She expressed. Seeing Gabriella flinched by their aggressive motion, Cash felt giddy inside. They liked to inflict pain on others whether it is deliberate or not.
"And why the hell did I do that? Did you expect me to be more tolerant to your kind? As if!"Cash asked sarcastically. "Clearly if she knows that Pureblood is more superior in every way, she would not have done that"Cash said. The black-haired girl asked how Cash was. The girl then introduced herself as Gabriella Haworth then she extended her hand for Cash to shake.
"I know who you are,"They informed the other girl. "I keep a tab to all other houses Quidditch players"Cash added. The young Ironwoods then looked down at Gabriella's hand that was still outstretched and open. Usually, it was not in their habit to shake other people's hands but if Gabriella thought Cash is afraid of simple handshaking, she thought wrong.
"The name Ironwoods. Cash Ironwoods"The former purple haired then grabbed Gabriella's hand firmly and put pressure on her hand just enough to put a bit pain on the handshake. "I want to say likewise but I just do it out of politeness"Cash uttered then dropped Gabriella's hand like her hand burned Cash.
The third-year glanced at their abandoned Muggle Studies assignment that they long forgotten about it. It seems Cash has to do it in the comfort and safety of their dorm and after this whole ordeal is done for.

So Blood Purists Still Exist...
"Is that the best you've got?" smirked the Slytherin. For a moment, Gabriella was satisfied: when she successfully insulted Tory, Tory would often respond with 'is that the best you've got', and really, it would mean 'actually, that hurt me quite a bit'. Not that it was Gabby's aim to hurt this student - as much as she hated the older student's attitude, she wasn't going to treat them like an enemy. Not quite yet. "To be honest, that is how I roll," continued the Slytherin.
"Are you sure that's how you roll with everyone?" Gabby snapped back, snarkily. "Because if it is, I don't think you'll be able to get many friends. Now I might be a muggle-born, but at least I have friends who stick by me. In fact, I met my best friend in this very room," she added, defiantly. "So yeah, you watch your mouth!" Gabriella hesitated, suddenly realising that she had stood up without noticing. She gave a small, awkward smile, before sitting back down and wrapping her arms around her waist - something she often did when she felt embarrassed. Aster, Gabby's toad, opened one large eyes. Oh come on, Asti, groaned Gabby, internally. Can't you have woken up when I was making a little less of a fool of myself?
Nevertheless, this interaction was still important, and Gabriella hoped to still leave some kind of impression on this obnoxious third-year. Sure, she wasn't putting herself and other Muggle-borns in a particularly good light - which had kind of been her point, going into this - but she wanted to show that her kind could stand their ground, and that they weren't pointless. For a moment, Gabriella maybe even considered doing magic - Gabby was particularly good at charms, and she could do a few good hexes, too - but no, that would be counterproductive. She was supposed to be finding common ground with this Slytherin, not forcing her feet to launch into a sudden, frenzied tap-dance.
"I know who you are," stated the Slytherin coldly, when Gabriella introduced herself. "I keep a tab of all the other houses' Quidditch players." Ah. You got me. Gabriella had to give it to the third-year, that facet of them was pretty impressive. "The name's Ironwoods, Cash Ironwoods."
"Cash," repeated Gabriella. An unusual name, she thought, but it fitted them pretty well. Gabby tried not to wince as Cash gripped her hand in a fierce handshake.
"I want to say likewise, but I do so just out of politeness," said Cash.
"Oh, come on," scoffed Gabby, "you didn't think I was really pleased to make your acquaintance, did you? You delude yourself, Cash Ironwoods. Now, if you'll excuse me-" Gabriella began, turning her eyes back to her homework assignment. Somehow, the previously eager Ravenclaw wasn't quite so eager to complete it as she had been before.

"Are you sure that's how you roll with everyone?"The Ravenclaw snapped back. Her snarkiness did not escape the green eyes. For a split second Cash thought back. 3 years they had studied at Hogwarts and they just had three people in their corner. The people that they consider a found family and will protect them no matter what.
Cash did not need a horde of people as their friends that could betray and hurt you along the way. Three was enough for them. Quality over quantity is one of the core value that Cash holds for the people that they consider as friends. "Because if it is, I don't think you'll be able to get many friends."Gabriella continued.
"Do not need a bunch of them. I only need the ones that can be trusted"Cash replied clipped. "Now I might be a muggle-born, but at least I have friends who stick by me. In fact, I met my best friend in this very room,"The raven-haired student added some more into her short speech. "I did too. I have some friends who always stick by me"They uttered quickly.
They did not want Gabriella to gain the upper hand over the former purple-haired and makes Gabriella think that they are friendless. Although in reality, Cash is kind of a bit friendless. "So yeah, you watch your mouth!"The girl said as she stood up from where she was situated without her realizing it.
Once Gabby realized what has transpired; she gave a small, awkward smile, before sitting back down. Cash looked up with a smirk etched on their lips. "Did I strike your nerve, maggot?"They sarcastically asked the second year. After the other girl introduced her name and Cash did the same, Gabriella repeated their name.
It is so much easier to introduce their name as Cash rather than Cassandra and definitely not Phoenix. The green eyes knows that their rudeness was out of line but everything was already said and done. "Oh, come on,"Gabby scoffed at Cash's earlier statement. What now? The Cuban descendant thought to themselves.
Cash sighed as Gabriella become more annoying as the minutes went by. "You didn't think I was really pleased to make your acquaintance, did you? You delude yourself, Cash Ironwoods."Gabby uttered. It irked the Cuban descendant a bit with how Gabriella said their name. "As I said, I did it out of politenes"They announced.
"Did you think I want to be your friend or something?"They scoffed. Gabriella was not that bad, Cash had to give her that. She handle the young Ironwoods well despite Cash's unappealing behavior that they displayed towards the girl. Not many people could keep their cool when dealing with Cash's obnoxious attitude.
"Now, if you'll excuse me-"Gabriella said to Cash as the Ravenclaw turned her eyes back to her homework assignment. The young socialite then remember that they also have homework that needed to be done and arguing with Gabriella would not make their homework finished by itself. Cash is also a smart person.
They know when to pick their battle and an arguments. And it seems Gabriella was done with Cash's obnoxious behavior. "Right,"They replied shortly. Cash then collects their belongings and gathers them into their arms. "Have fun with your homework, Mud. I will see you at the Quidditch Pitch. My house will crush yours. As always"With that Cash get up from their seat and walked out of the room.
