Her words seemed to have a mind of their own as the group continued away from the Out of Order sign to walk the presumed safer way. The increased space was comforting, the walls no longer having such a disturbing presence, but blue eyes still watched for sentient vines.

It was then that their hopeful words of safety would cast a jinx upon the group, a clicking sound as the ground around them fell away into the abyss. Whether it was concern for space or fear of falling off, Kit would remain still on her portion of the ground left standing. The expanse seemed too large to jump, but there seemed to be no other options. Not until spells were brought into the fold- a tool the girl often forgot about.

Alarte Ascendare had worked, but the redhead had never heard of such a spell. So while it might help the others across, Kit still remained on the slowly shrinking platform. Waiting was definitely not an option and no spells came to mind that the rising first year could cast. At least with jumping she would have tried something rather than just hoped for the best as the pit swallowed her whole. So the girl would walk to the furthest edge in the hopes to get a little bit of a running start before jumping. Hopefully it wouldn't be now that the group separated.
Attempting to jump across.

The cookies had attacked and from now on, Lavinia would NOT be eating any sort of sweets the maze had to offer. She didn’t care if she was hungry or thirsty, she was not accepting any more food. It was like the don’t take candy from strangers rule but, instead it was don’t take candy from a school sponsored maze.

With the force of both of their spells, the cookies flew off of Greta. Making sure to not touch any herself, Lavinia had to use her quidditch skills to dodge a few. Panting a little from the stressful situation, Lavinia called out to Greta. “Are you okay Greta?!” She needed to make sure her acquaintance was safe before they moved on. If Greta was in need of a hand or any other thing, Lavinia would be quick to provide it and help out.

After the cookie encounter, Lavinia said “Nice spell work but let’s not eat anymore of the food the maze provides. If you want, we could always head back to my cabin at the end of this, I have some chocolate frogs that we could eat.” It was better to eat food that they knew where it came rather then the food found in a weird maze.

Slowly moving, Lavinia started to continue forward in the maze while being very cautious of avoiding cookies. Once she passed the cookies, she took note of all of her surroundings and kept going.

It was worse than she had initially anticipated. She had thought the cookie cage would simply be an annoyance. They were heavy and restricting, and their adherence to her person slowed and weighed her down. It was difficult to move, difficult to advance. And ultimately, she had become stuck. But it was more than that; so much more. She couldn't move. Her chest couldn't move. She was finding it hard to breathe. Her stomach couldn't rise, and her ribs couldn't expand. She had to force the air in as though she were actively sucking in the air, its volume pressing against her internals uncomfortably. It wasn't impossible. But with every passing moment, the effort increased.

The fear that had dug its claws in at the sound of the incantation behind her only seemed to sink deeper as her precarious situation carried on. The tears that had started to rim her eyes began to overflow forming sweet and salty rivulets down her cheeks as the fluid picked up cookie flavouring. What a delectable little dish she might have made right there. Practically served up on a silver platter.

Fortunately, her worries would only be short-lived, and her fears—some of them, at least—she would find to be unfounded. In an instant after her companion had casted, she watched as dozens of cookies flew from her person, falling in crumbly heaps to the maze floor. Gradually, she could feel the weight lifting as more and more of the little desserts dropped away. Enough to allow her to cast her own. It had been a last ditch hope, but one that had paid off. Despite the difficulty, the spell cast without a hitch, and she was finally freed.

Fear turned to relief and the tears flowed all the more as a result. It was stupid. She shouldn't be this weak. Especially not in front of someone else. But the situation had shaken her, instilling into her a real sense of helplessness. With a sniff, she brushed the tears away upon her sleeve, foot lifting to stamp down angrily against a cookie, grinding it into the dirt. And then another, as though they were somehow the ones at fault for having put her in that predicament and needing punishment. In a blind moment of senselessness, she had even swiped off angrily one of the cookies still clinging to her, its crumbly sides pinched haughtily between fingers of both hands She had brought it to her mouth, bent on biting its figurative head off in defiance when the other girl spoke up, snapping Greta from her little tirade.

"Oh!" A shiver of regret ran up her spine with the realization that she had forgotten herself. In an instant, sheepish remorse replaced indignant rage, face blossoming a charming shade of neon tomato as she turned just enough to be able to flick her gaze briefly at the girl from the corner of her eyes. "Ehm..." Sights returned forward, to the cookie in her hand. She dropped it to the ground, unbitten. "Y-yes. I am... I am okay. Ehm... I thank you much."

No help was necessarily needed, but Greta moved a great deal more slowly as she gingerly plucked whatever remaining cookies hadn't quite been knocked from her person and dropped them to the ground. "You make good spell.." she returned, taking a cue to continue forward down the path.

The girl had spoken a bit quickly for Greta and so she hadn't quite caught everything she'd said, but she thought she understood the gist of the first bit at least. As for the latter...well, she did understand the most important part. A smile blossomed across her face, freckles beginning to make their appearance again as the blush began to fade.

"Chocolate frogs are very delicious!" She put her fingers together into the rough shape of a pentagon. "Ehm.. you.. ehm.." What was the word... She couldn't think of what it was called to gather all objects of a particular set. "You have pictures, yes? We could..." She motioned her hands first to gesture towards Lavinia, and then towards herself. "You give, I give?"

With Flash already proving that it wasn’t impossible to clear the chasm that surrounded the small platform. Instead of abandoning his companions, however, Flash appeared ready to help the others across, if needed. Opeila was first. Similar to Flash, the girl would employ the Ascension Charm to escape. It was perfectly cast. So much so that the girl launched high into the air. She became more of a bird than a student. However, he fears that the ground on the other side would be less than accommodating to her was a valid concern.

Luckily for Opeila, there was a wild Flash on the other side. While he might not have envisioned himself as a cushion for the flying Opeila, he did want to help them. Opeila would collide with Flash, sending the boy back to the ground with a hard thud. It saved Opeila from a hard and painful landing but it was likely quite uncomfortable for poor Flash.

While Flash was being squished, Katherine was also working to get herself to safety. With no spells coming to mind, the girl put what she could into jumping the gap. She stumbled just before take off and it would be instantly clear that the girl wouldn’t make it. She wouldn’t have the distance. Her natural strength would provide her some distance and Katherine would be able to grab desperately onto the rim of the pit, a few feet from the bundle that was Opeila and Flash. However, most of Kit was now desperately dangling above the dark pit and she would feel her tenuous grip slipping away.

Now that Greta was free of her cookie coat, the girl seemed to be a bit more harried by the entire situation. She would pick off the last of the pesky cookies that had been clinging to her person. But despite the turmoil, Greta seemed to be gaining at least some level of friendship with her companion and co-savior even despite the language gap.

With an invitation from Lavinia to share in some chocolate frogs in the near future, the pair would continue on their path. There were occasional floating cookies on the path that they walked, but the pair might be a bit less inclined to give them a taste test. As the girls walked the fog would quickly begin to thicken, it would become almost impossible to see more than a foot or two in front of them.

As the pair wandered forward, the would round a final corner that led them to a three-way fork. Each of the paths had a small sign posted at the front of the entrances. The left-most path had a sign that read: ‘The Lost’. The central path read: ‘The Broken’. And the right-most path read: ‘The Forgotten’. The girls were getting close to their freedom...Very close but one wrong move could bring them more trouble than they might be expecting.

They could hear no sounds beyond their footsteps. There were no scents beyond the moisture on hedge leaves and the fog was too thick to truly make out what might be lurking down any of the paths. It would likely take a leap of faith from the girls to decide. But surely there would just be more fun and games waiting for them.

Continuing forward, Greta had to keep her eyes glued to the far horizon lest she be swayed to steal glimpses of those cookies that remained suspended in the air, teasing and taunting her sweet tooth. Afterall, the trap had already been sprung. Woudl another bite really do it all over again? Perhaps it sat impotent now, those cookies actually falsely intimidating. Like a corn snake to a copperhead.

She really needn't have worked to hard to keep her focus forward and off of the cookies, however. The further they progressed, the more a dense cloud seemed to seep in and around them from some unknown source. Was this another trap? Were they about to be consumed by the suffocating fumes of some gas or another? Greta certainly hoped not, but uncertainty crept to her core as she eyed this vaporous arrival with more than a little suspicion and subconsciously drifted closer to her companion. For the time being, however, it proved itself to be little more than a nuisance; and soon enough they found themselves at another division in the path.

Left. Forward. Right. It was hard to make out the directions, but a small circuit around the fork, hands out to feel for the breaks in foliage confirmed this. What was more, there were three signs, one for each direction. "Lost.. Broken.. Forgotten.." Greta read, sounding out the words, but not quite understanding their meaning. "What is it the meaning?" she wondered, swivelling towards Lavinia in search of answers. "Where we do to go?"

Nate couldn't believe it, in front of him was his freedom. Only a few more meters separated him and the exit of this horrible labyrinth. "Finally." He said with relief and all by himself his steps became faster and faster. A smile formed on his face, he couldn't believe it. He got faster and faster, freedom came closer and closer until...suddenly he was surrounded by ropes. It happened, as so often in this maze, so fast that Nate couldn't shift gears. Nate was pulled away from the ropes, away from freedom and into darkness. "Damn it! This can't be happening!" screamed Nate at the top of his lungs into the dark room.

He was still tied up, he couldn't see, he could barely move and the frustration was at an all time high. "Damn it. Damn it. Damn it." He cursed on and on until he started breathing calmly and steadying himself. He thought, somehow he would get out of here too. He tried to move his wand in his hand and concentrated on somehow conjuring a spell in his bound state. "Lumos." He spoke, hoping to shed some light on the darkness. Word for word. Before he would possibly think of attacking his bonds with a fire spell, he would first try to check out the situation, hoping that there would be another way.

As Flash tried to be available and helpful, Opeila tried to do the same move he had a moment before. Though, when she cast it, it seemed a lot more... effective. Was it because she was a better spell caster, because she was lighter than him or... well, he didn't have much time to ponder. As she fell back to earth at the speed of gravity, Flash held his arms open for the catch, his confidence waning as she sped downwards like a dark-haired bullet. Upon the moment of collision, he hoped that his body had softened the blow, but also... ouch.

It would take a moment to recover from the bludgeoning force, pummeled back to the ground and made disoriented. There was still the matter of the other girl, not to mention the fact that there was a clear time limit on how long she would have to make it off that particular platform before it was gone. No matter how safe he presumed the maze to be, he didn't like taking unnecessary risks, especially when it came to people he felt responsible for. Groggily setting Opeila off to the side, Flash would note Kit's precarious position and try to crawl over and grab her before her grip worsened and pull her up onto the comparatively safe ground, or help her with her efforts if she was already working her way up.

It seemed that the spell had worked for Opeila, sending her flying into the air in the direction of where Flash was. Kit hoped the two would be okay, distracted as she inched closer towards the back edge to get a much distance as possible. It was in her best interest to get to the other side, not to find out whatever was at the bottom of the darkness. There was no time to plan, just once she felt the edge with her back forward, the girl would push herself forward into a run, eyes trained on the other side. The much safer place, in her opinion.

Her stumble formed its own pit of dread as blue eyes glanced down hoping that the pit wouldn't be her new home. Kit's strength seemed to be enough though, catching onto the rim as she crashed into the dirt side. Precarious certainly was the word for it, unsure for how long her grip would stay. Feet would kick around in the hopes of finding a crevice or something to step on or push herself upwards- anything that could get her to the safety of solid land beneath her feet. If possible, she would take Flash's help in getting up, hoping that she wouldn't fall beforehand.

Still a bit groggy from the unfortunate collision, Flash still had the wherewithal to notice one of their companions still needed a bit of help getting to safety. Instead of allowing Kit to plummet into the body, the boy moved to the rim to assist Kit in scrambling up. The crawling Flash would be able to grab the arm of Kit and gave extra stability as the girl worked to pull herself to safety. With the assistance, Kit was able to easily pull herself up and to the safety of the rim beside Flash. Now all three students were back and safe. The path before was still obscured by fog and the growing darkness of the evening but at least they were all relatively safe again. Once recovered, they would be able to continue into the unknown and there was no telling what might be lurking...

With the possibility of freedom so close, it seemed heartbreaking to have it stolen away so suddenly. But Nate was keeping his wits about him and worked to steady himself. It seemed that he did not want to consider the chest as his new home. But instead of just trying to blast his way out, Nate opted for a more calculating approach and to do anything, they would need to see their surroundings.

The boy was able to easily cast Lumos to get a better sense of their surroundings. The sudden light of their wand lit the cramped confines of the chest. The walls and ceiling of the chest looked rather ordinary. It was some type of hardwood and only further suggested that the object had been enchanted by the chaotic Groundskeeper. Around much of their body was a thick rope but its grip seemed to have loosened some with Nate already captured. From inside the chest, Nate could still feel as though the chest was moving somewhere in the maze. Other than Nate and the rope, however, there appeared to be nothing else within the chest.

After the challenges faced in the field of cookies, Greta seemed a bit more wary of the maze’s offerings. There seemed to be a bit more trepidation and caution in her decisions but that wouldn’t keep her from pressing forward. Without having a strong grasp on English, the signs were somewhat meaningless to her and Lavinia offered no words to indicate where they should go. With the silence, Greta decided that she would continue forward down the path titled ‘The Broken’.

Pressing forward into the fog filled path, Greta would be able to barely see as the walls remained somewhat narrow. The path remained straight, undeviating for the entire silent walk. However, eventually there would be some faint light. The path opened up into a long and wide chamber. At the very end of the chamber there looked to be an archway. It was still some distance away and with the fog it was difficult to see exactly what the arch led to but it looked as though it might be an exit. Potential freedom just on the other side of the chamber.

However, just as Greta arrived at the chamber, she would hear a faint ticking noise from somewhere within the chamber. It was challenging to see what was in the dark chamber but Greta could almost feel as though something was moving out of the corner of her eye. What was unclear. It seemed like something small had skittered out of view but perhaps the possibility of freedom would be too much to resist.

After a little bit of effort, both in Kit bringing herself up and Flash giving her a steady anchor to hold onto, the apparent danger was avoided. As she returned to solid ground, Flash would take a second to just lie on his back and catch his breath. He didn't know what he had expected, but it certainly gave him a run for his money. After the short break, he'd put in the effort to stand back up, helping Kit up as well if she needed it.

"Whew. Okay." Flash continued, clearing his throat. There was no knowing if they were right at the exit or only halfway through, he could see why mazes were used for torture in ancient legends. "We've got this, let's keep going forward. We have to be close."

He said, putting good vibes back out there after what felt like a near-death emergency. Maybe there were just nice, soft pillows at the bottom of the pit... yes, it was nicer when he imagined it like that. In a sense, he was having fun still, he liked being able to challenge himself without the fear of death upon him. The area was shrouded in fog, but they had made it past every challenge in one piece so far, certainly they would make it out of the maze victorious.
