Having had his celebratory ice cream absconded from him, Flash crossed his arms as he stood, realization dawning on him when Syl explained what he meant about spells. The young eagle was not the most clear when it came to explaining his own thought process, sometimes it had to be drawn out and interpreted before the message was understood. He wished he could cast 'revelio' on that brain of his.
"Oh, I see. Forgive me." Flash began, shaking his head. "No, I'm afraid not."
He hated to see the look of disappointment on Syl's face, but since they were in the same year, he must of known that the curriculum was the same for both, they would get to the spell once Professor Pendrast taught it to them. He was likely either overly optimistic of Flash's ability to stay ahead of the class, or he was trying to bring up the subject of the book without having had a more subtle or simple segue in mind. It was made more muddled by Syl now calling Robert an unwitting participant and mentioning talking in circles, even asking the younger boy whether he himself knew the spell. Flash cleared his throat to draw attention to himself and try to cut through the confusion.
"Sylvain found a book in the library with empty pages. We figured we might find script written inside if we cast the revealing charm on it, but that will have to wait." Though he knew Robert was a duelist, he did not expect him to know spells even Flash himself did not. He was a prideful snake who too often discounted those younger than him. "I expect he's bringing it up because the cover mentioned a collective of 'Samaritans'. I think he considers you trustworthy, considers you a Samaritan. Do you know what that word means?"
Flash would once again look at Sylvain to gauge whether his interpretation was right, and also at Robert to see if his explanation made sense.

Interacting with @Sylvain Wyllt and @Flash Holmwood
A meager morsel of information from Syl, followed by crushing disappointment as the older boy declined to follow it with a full meal. Robert would not be able to stop his face from falling in disappointment, the accidental teasing too much for his hungry mind. Thankfully for the young Ravenclaw, Flash swooped in to save him from his misery with a succinct explanation. Robert answered with a look of understanding and a thoughtful “Ah,” accompanied by a thankful smile directed towards the Slytherin.
The boy was immediately struck by the simplistic surface of the mystery, which obviously hid a much more complicated interior. A number of questions bubbled up in his head, but Robert realized he should probably answer the questions directed at him first. Also, most of the questions were ones his companions probably didn’t have answers for anyways, such as how the book made its way into the library in the first place. “Isn’t revelio a second year charm? I’ve heard of it, but I feel like if I were to learn a spell above my year, it would be something with a bit more everyday purpose. Never quite thought something like that would come up in anything outside of a mystery novel,” he said with a small laugh. Of course, this raised the new question of what wizarding mystery novels would look like, but that seemed like a discussion for a different time.
As much as Robert hated admitted to his lack of knowledge in certain areas, he hated people assuming his lack of knowledge even more. Because of this, he couldn’t help but show off a bit in response to Flash’s question. “I do appreciate being thought of as trustworthy, but in fact I am not a Samaritan. I understand the confusion though, as it is a wide misconception that the Samaritan faith is only a sect of Judaism, while they are in fact separate religions. While the Jewish Holy Text includes the entire Tanakh, which is mainly the Christian Old Testament, Samaritans only have the first 6 books off it.” The term “Good Samaritan” had come up a couple times in some books Robert read, sparking an enjoyable trip down some Wikipedia rabbit holes. “If you are looking for Samaritans, you might be out of luck, considering there are very few of them left, and I think they all live in Israel.” The snobbish nature of his response to what was probably meant as a compliment would strike him later, leading him down a rabbit hole of regret much less enjoyable than Wikipedia. However, that most likely wouldn’t happen until shortly after he was meant to be asleep.
In the meantime, he was too busy being intrigued by the present mystery to worry about the past. “I have to ask, as honored as I by your confiding in me, wouldn’t it be a better idea to go to an older student or professor? I can’t be the only trustworthy person in the entire school, right?” Here he paused, glancing back and forth at the two second-years. By this point, he’d heard enough stories about the school to cause the slightest bit of doubt rise up as he said this, even if he didn’t really believe any of them. “Right?”

A mystery novel would aptly describe the plot that Sylvain, Robert and Flash were now tossed into without any warning. Sylvain however would produce the aged looking book from his pack. The book read "The Society of Samaritans," across the front but when opened revealed no other information beyond the line "Respect, Compassion, Stewardship and Initiative."
Of course it was just luck that none of them knew the specific charm, but the way they had found out was indicative of probably the largest difference between Flash and Sylvain. The Ravenclaw much preferred to discover the truth by prospecting all available perspectives then using logic and common sense to determine the answer. The Slytherin on the other hand seemed to assume that what he knew to be true was also the truth for everyone else. It didn't help his bad habit that Flash's method was correct this time around. That kind of bias was a hell of a thing for a teenager to overcome.
"Here, have a look inside for yourself." Sylvain would hand the book to Robert so that he might inspect it more closely. Perhaps the boy could spot something his two 'seniors' had missed. Essentially, it was a mystery Sylvain had hoped to solve with the help of other students he thought to be competent. Since adults had a tendency to keep important things a secret until the students "needed to know" he hadn't told them yet, but perhaps it was best he turn the book in so they could do the right thing.
"Anyways, wrong kind of Samaritan, Robert," Syl corrected, even though the boy was right. It was not what Sylvain and Flash had thought the title to mean, but that didn't mean Robert was wrong. "I think in this context 'Samaritan' means good samaritan," Sylvain said with a shrug. He could, as always, be wrong. Perhaps they had mistakenly stumbled across some kind of yellow paged journal of the last vestiges of a secret religious cult tucked away deep within Hogwarts. That would, at the very least, be an interesting thing to uncover.
Either way, there was no knowing now what they were destined to see. It wasn't even clear if they would remain interested once the revealing charm was learned. "Hope you enjoyed your ice cream." Sylvain said, giving Robert a moment to look the thing over. He looked to Flash, and then back to Robert. "And sorry for Athene's behavior. We're still working on table manners."

It was at the point, while Robert continued his very eagle-like confusion (were all Ravenclaws like this?) that Syl brought out the journal, having had it with him. Flash couldn't help but chuckle a bit at Robert's description of Samaritans, though he'd raise a hand to try and cover it. He wasn't even sure whether Robert was correct, as he was never one to study such esoteric information as Muggle religions, though for a split second he wondered whether it was true, and the book's title had indeed been completely misunderstood. There was such scant information on it at all, after all, so the possibilities were many.
Syl corrected him however as to their presupposition, to which Flash nodded along. It seemed very unlikely that an entire group of these Israeli Samaritans were a factor in its creation, what with it being stored away in an English boarding school. "Yes, we had assumed this was a collective of people whose purpose was to do good deeds. Do you not find that interesting?"
As for the matter of trust and adults, Flash had a bit of a stronger opinion than most, "I don't presume this is a matter of urgency that requires adult intervention." He'd say, in the most robotic way possible, though still lightly smiling. "More a peculiarity. It must have been a group that lived in the school, it makes one wonder what they did, who they are, why they made this book. For all we know, it's only a prank, or they had never filled it out to begin with."
Flash was a lover of mystery, even to his own detriment at times. He tore through mystery novels in his lonely hours of seclusion, and investigated even the smallest curiosities. Whether that ended up 'killing the cat' was yet to be seen, though the book seemed harmless. If only they had the one things they needed... it would be on his mind for sure on the day the spell was introduced.
Syl moved on though, his attempt at getting the other two to further the investigation going nowhere. Back to the ice cream, and the behavior of his owl. Flash would sigh and hold his arms out in a general gesture of 'oh well'. "We're still in the Great Hall, time to eat, I figure. Just makes sure it doesn't hover over us and pick at the rest of my meal as well."
If Flash didn't know better, he might think all of animal kind had something out for him, but despite knowing animals had inferior brains, he still felt slightly that it might be somewhat true.
