No sooner as Scarlet had turned to walk after Starlee, did she find herself looking back in the direction of the tables they had just left, a slight noise of something from behind her catching her attention. It was nothing other than a cookie that had fallen from the table, she thought she or Starlee must have left one precariously balanced on the edge of the table without realising. She turned back and took a few more steps after Starlee when she heard an identical sound, but what she turned to see was far from normal.
Another cookie had indeed fallen from the table, but it was the sight if the first cookie that was now rolling with perfect balance towards the girls that caught Scarlet's eye. Just then, the other fallen cookie began rolling too, following a similar path to the one before it, "take a look at this," she called back to Starlee, she wasn't sure if the girl had stopped to see what was happening too.
Scarlet moved her free hand inside her jumper pocket where she had placed her wand before she had joined Starlee in a snack, resting it on her wand, soon enough there was a small group of the cookies rolling after them.
The one closest to Scarlet then stopped just short of her feet, it didn't look like it was a threat, it was still just a normal cookie after all, aside from the rolling. She took a few steps backwards, and as she guessed, the cookie continued to roll after her. "Ha, they're kind of cool," she said to Starlee, intrigued by the magic treats.
After the initial fascination had somewhat died down, Scarlet suggested they continue down the path with their new cookie friends, "who knows, maybe they know the way out," Scarlet said whilst laughing, though she doubted they even had the capability to go ahead of them and lead them anywhere.
Once again, and to Scarlet's displeasure, the maze's path began to narrow, 'here we go again,' she thought. Whilst she expected to possibly reach some sort of exit, she was surprised to be met with another fork in the path, three possible paths for them to follow, but most exciting was the sign promising freedom. "What are you thinking?" she asked Starlee, in the meantime she picked up on a smell coming from the path to right, it was strong, burning, she wrinkled her noise to it, whilst her 'condition' definitely had it's uses in the maze, it wasn't exactly the best thing when it amplified all smells.
"Can you hear th-" she started after hearing a slight, almost squeaking from the path to the left, but stopped when she saw the group of cookies that had been following from behind, pass by both girls and continue right towards the burning smell. "Hmm, weird, do you think they actually do know where they're going," she asked, "but then again, they would've been enchanted by a professor, so would the professor enchant them to lead us out of the maze or deeper back into it?"
"I really don't know which is best," she said to Starlee, "my instinct is to go right after the cookies, but I'm not one-hundred percent swayed either way, so if you have a stronger preference for one of the others, we'll go there."

Starlee was certainly too naive to think that there would be something up with the assorted sweets. She trusted the adults that she had assumed put the maze together. There was no way there could be anything wrong with the sweets, certainly not poisoned.
It seemed at least this time she was correct, as nothing felt off as she bit into the cookie, not that she was looking out for anything strange in the first place. However, as she decidedly pushed forward with her new friend, she heard her call up to Starlee to look at something. Starlee was certainly awestruck as she turned to look at Scarlet, unsure of the girls tone, and she saw an army of sweets rolling behind her. Well perhaps they weren't poisoned, but they were certainly charmed.
She waited to observe the sweets as they rolled up to Scarlet, but stopped short of her. They certainly seemed harmless. Starlee's slight concern of a cookie uprising about loosing two of their now eaten comrades had been temporarily put to rest."This is really cool actually... we have our own army of sweets now!" Starlee couldn't help but smile now that she felt as if they were okay.
It seemed Scarlet was feeling okay with their newfound rolling army, so the pair continued onward, rolling sweets right behind them.
The path narrowed once again, and finally lead them to three different options. The cookie army decided to take the path to the right without them, rolling toward this burning smell. Could this be a trap? Or perhaps it was some sort of oven? Whatever it was, Starlee definitely agreed with Scarlet that they should follow their cookie friends.
"No, no, I trust our new cookie friends. There has to be something that way that would cause them to head there!" Starlee assured herself this was the case. The burning spell was a bit disconcerting, but at least she knew extinguo, just in case it was necessary.

Another audible gasp escaped Akari as she was startled by another loud splat, one that was all too familiar. Dammit, Jack had joined them in this dreadful pit of compost hadn’t he?
Whatever were the three of them supposed to do now?
Failing to feel around and find anything that may be of use, Akari was completely at a loss of what to do next. The rotten mush had nearly passed her shoulders and was clearly not planning on stopping any time soon. How in the world were they expected to find a way out of this when all their senses other than hearing were somehow being obstructed? This was a load of rubbish. Unfortunately for them, quite literally.
“Guys” Akari croaked out while still attempting to tread around and fight the downwards pull, “Any ideas on how to get out of this mess? I reckon we don’t have much time till the pit will get to us fully”
Even though it was slowly seeming more and more like they were not going to leave this pit alive, there was no way that that was the whole truth. The teachers of Hogwarts would certainly not willingly allow them to take part in such things if there was a chance of not returning, right? Right of course not. So, there had to be a way out.
Gosh, why could she not think of anything?
A rattling cough that sounded closer to a hack then came from Akari. She was not sure how much more of this disgusting pit she could take.
If this was going to be the end of her... so be it.
Action: Slowly accepting that she may not leave the pit >.>

With cookies rolling about and doing their cookie things, there were choices to be made and signs that might lead the girls astray. They were close, however. Close to freedom if they just made the right choices. Perhaps because the cookies had not yet attacked them, Scarlet was beginning to believe that the rolling cookies might actually be showing them the path to freedom.
Starlee shared the trust in their new cookie friends and agreed with Starlee that they should follow the little buddies. Who would possibly enchant cookies to do anything sinister? Turning right, the girls would see the cookies continuing to roll quickly down the corridors with each turn. Rounding a sharp left turn, the girls would see it…
A clear opening in front of them. An opening that would lead the girls out of the maze and the cookies had led them right to it! Following the cookies, and towards the exit there was a sudden click… The click was followed immediately by a loud rumble as the ground beneath the girls opened into a shallow pit filled with squirming roots. Not paying attention or perhaps excited about seeing the exit, Starlee dropped helplessly into the pit and was immediately ensnared by the roots..
Perhaps still a bit nervous about potential traps, Scarlet showed a bit more awareness. The moment she heard the sound of the click, she dove into a dramatic army roll and avoided falling in the pit. Mid-roll, her foot kicked out and smacked a root away that tried to still grab her. Scarlet was safe and had the chance to sprint to the exit, but would she leave her companion in the pit? She wouldn’t get much time to thing as Scarlet would see the exit slowly beginning to close…

Still in the festering pit, Akari was beginning to lose hope. Her companions had not offered a suggestion on how they might be able to escape and it was beginning to feel a bit hopeless. With every second, the girl was sinking deeper into the stinking pit of rotting fruit. She could try to climb the walls but it would be no easy task. Akari still had her head and arms free of the pit but most of her body had sunk into the fruit and she would know that she did not have long. But perhaps up was not the only way out...

"Great! Lets get after them before they roll too far ahead," she said to Starlee, she was glad her friend had also opted to follow the cookies, she had a feeling that the cookies weren't going to lead them into danger, she hoped she wouldn't be proven wrong.
The continued to follow the cookies to the right, the rolling treats maintained a quick speed ahead of them, considering their size, it wasn't really difficult to keep up with them, and even then, the girls didn't reach any other forks in their path.
Turn after turn, she was faced with another corridor of hedged walls, that was until one sharp turn left presented a different view. At the end of this particular corridor, Scarlet saw a clearing, an end to the maze. "Yess! We did it, that's it, the end," she exclaimed to Starlee, though was sure the girl had seen it too.
"Thank you cookies!" she shouted after the treats that continued to roll out into the clearing, "well, I mean they did show us the way out," she said to Starlee, feeling a hint of embarrassment on realising she had just thanked baked treats.
With a new found spring in her step, Scarlet continued on towards the exit of the maze. Though with one step came a 'click' noise, and an accompanying pit in Scarlet's stomach. Without giving a thought as to what this could mean, Scarlet's instincts kicked in and she jumped forward, rolling to the ground, impressing even herself, but after what she had seen in the maze so far, she wasn't expecting it to mean anything good.
A loud rumbling noise followed and Scarlet turned to see that Starlee had been plunged into a newly formed pit in the ground, quickly getting back to her feet, Scarlet ran over and peered into the pit. Roots from the ground were tangling themselves around Starlee, stopping her from making any successful attempt to climb out of the pit. Scarlet looked over her shoulder towards the exit, the walls slowly coming together to seal the pair off from the exit, not that Scarlet considered even for a second leaving her new found friend, but she knew she would have to be fast.
She quickly withdrew her wand from the pocket of her hoodie and pointed it at the roots, specifically the early sections that had yet to cover Starlee, she hadn't exactly practised the spell in this kind of scenario and didn't know if it could cut Starlee too. "Diffindo!" she said, praying the spell would be enough to get through the vines.
If it did prove successful, Scarlet would then attempt to help pull Starlee out from the pit, noting that it's depth would make it a challenge for anyone to get out of alone, and they needed to be fast on top of it, "come on, let's get out of here."

Scarlet and Starlee blindly followed along after the rolling cookies, and it seemed that it had paid off. An opening could be seen dead ahead, and excitement spurred in Starlee's chest. "Ahhh we did do it! Come on, let's go, let's go!" Starlee said, all the while wondering if they would manage to beat the so called 'prefect' out to the other side. Starlee giggled as Scarlet thanked the cookies, and of course she thanked them as well. "Thank you very much cookies! Now lets get outta here!"
Of course, it wouldn't be quite so fast that the pair would be able to escape, as a faint click could be heard as the pair rushed forward. Starlee wasn't quick enough to get out of the way from the quickly forming pit beneath her, and she fell down into the pit, quickly ensnared by the active roots below. "I- No- HELP!" She yelled, hoping that Scarlet hadn't already left her behind, or worse, intentionally left her behind. Flashbacks of last year when she had fallen deep into the pit of the dungeons flared in her mind. It had been a lot deeper than this, and she had broken many bones from that incident, but certainly this would be different. It was school sanctioned after all... that was more of a misguided adventure.
She was panicking as she waited to see if scarlet would appear to help her, and she attempted to break free herself if she was never to appear. She was finally able to take a momentary sigh of relief as she caught a glimpse of Scarlet above her, about to cast something to set her free. Starlee attempted to maintain still as she did so, as she certainly wouldn't want to be hit with whatever it was.
If Scarlet was successful, she would grip tightly onto the girls arm, pushing against the wall to pull herself out of the pit.

It was, perhaps, a bit too early to be thanking the cookies but that wouldn’t stop Scarlet from offering her genuine thanks. As her companion was quickly swallowed by the pit beside her, Scarlet had a chance to escape the maze entirely. The exit was right there, all she would need to do was run...and abandon Starlee to her fate.
But she didn't. Scarlet proved that she had a bit more loyalty than a savage. While Starlee struggled against the strong binds of the roots, Scarlet had already positioned her wand at the ready. She easily cast the Severing Charm, acknowledging that Starlee may also be hit. But Scarlet was more accurate than she gave herself credit for and was able to cast her spell without harming Starlee.
Almost immediately, Starlee would feel the grip of the roots easing as her companions spell cut through several of the aggressive tendrils. This allowed Starlee to easily pull the rest of her body free where she would find Scarlet’s hand ready to pull her safely out of the pit. It would be a bit of a strain to completely pull her to safety, but Scarlet was up for the task and managed to bring the girl to safety.
Now both free from dangers of the surprise pit, there was a slight rumbling noise coming from the direction of the exit. If the girls were to turn, they would see that slowly but surely the pathway that would lead them out was beginning to close. The hedges themselves looked to be moving closer to each other. If the girls were fast enough, they might still be able to make it through. But if they weren’t...the walls themselves might close in around them. They wouldn’t have long to decide, however. If they didn’t act fast, their opportunity would pass. Would they turn back to a new route? Or would they risk running forward into the closing walls of the maze?

Scarlet let out a sigh of relief as she watched her spell cut through the moving vines, giving her new friend the chance to wriggle free. When she saw that the spell had done the trick, Scarlet slipped her wand into the pocket of her hoodie, freeing up both of her hands to help Starlee out of the pit, "I'm glad that worked," she said as she breathed heavily, recovering from how quickly everything had just happened, "wouldn't have known what to do if it hadn't." She looked Starlee over trying to see if her new friend was okay, "are you okay?" Scarlet asked, "those things really came out of nowhere!"
Although Scarlet felt some relief that the two girls were out of imminent danger, the continued rumbling noise from ahead did well to keep her on edge. "The exit started to close up when the pit opened," she said to Starlee, her friend had probably been too preoccupied with the roots to notice this till now, "quick, we need to get out of here, after seeing those root things, I'd hate to know what else will come crawling out of the floor if we get trapped inside!"
With that Scarlet made a dash for the exit, she trusted Starlee to be doing the same, the pair didn't have time to question anything else, they needed to move before they were sealed off from their freedom for however long it would be till someone found them of they were able to find another exit.

As Starlee held her breath hoping Scarlet's spell would work, she was able to finally let it go when she started to feel the vines around her loosening. Scarlet must have been successful. Thank goodness she didn't have Starlee's terrible aim. She began to pull herself upward now that there wasn't something holding her back, and she would grab on to Scarlets hand. The girl pulled her upward, and managed to stand back up on solid ground
"Oiy, I'm glad too..." she mumbled, massaging her arm where a vine had attempted to latch on. "I'll be fine, maybe a bit of bruising but nothing to bad. Coulda been worse if you hadn't been there... so... thanks." It could have been much worse as well if Scarlet had decided to abandon her to freedom alone. Thank goodness she hadn't decided on that course of action. Her normally cheery tone had turned more serious as she said her thanks. She did honestly mean it, but she also had actually been a little scared there. She had just met Scarlet after all, and she did seem to get a shiver of... something off every now and again around her, but surely that was nothing. Surely that was what the professors wanted anyway, a little bit of stunned teamwork and new friendships. Well they had certainly found it in this little duo.
There was little time to dwell on this, as Scarlet mentioned there exit from the maze was closing - and fast."I- It's closing?" she responded, but quickly began to dash after Scarlet. They simply had to make it through, it was so close, she could almost taste the victory.

After taking a moment to ensure each other were okay after the short run in with the roots, the girls quickly turned their attention to the closing exit. It was still a distance away and the girls were losing time. With each second, the faint light of the outside world was dwindling. So the girls broke into a run with Scarlet slightly leading the way. With each stride they would inch closer but they would also see the exit getting smaller and smaller. The tendril-like vines and roots pulled the hedges closer together around the now narrow exit.
Any chance for the girls to turn back and find a safer option had passed. With the walls now rapidly moving in, any notion of turning back was just as likely to get them stuck as continuing forward. Scarlet would feel the leaves begin to rustle against her arms. With each stride, Starless would feel small branches beginning to snap against her legs. There was a rumble that only grew louder as they moved. The branches and leaves raked against the girls as the column closed in.
Both Scarlet and Starlee would feel their movement begin to slow as the branches pressed into them and roots began coiling slowly up their legs. The light of the exit was almost entirely snuffed out. It seemed like their hope was at its end. But Scarlet and Starlee were not about to let their chance slip by. With a final rush of strength, they would be able to tear their limbs free and force their bodies through the closing head. Step by step… Scarlet’s hand would emerge first.
The hand tasted the first free air in some time. Moments after, Scarlet would be able to push her way through the last of the hedge. Sticking close, Starlee was able to rip her way through the plants. Seconds after Scarlet emerged from the maze, Starlee would rustle her way to freedom. They had found a way to survive. The pair had been lucky and avoided most of the more heinous traps within the hungry maze. But they would perhaps never look at hedges the same.
