Being able to do powerful feats of magic always made Dmitri feel quite gleeful if he does say so himself. Covering almost an entire third of the arena in magically-conjured fog, the Slytherin Captain could be seen smirking, delighting in the power he held in his hands.

They all thought they did something, but the Vipers were always going to be one step forward.

The Slytherin queen seemed threatened by the international team's spell-casting prowess, and decided to once again smoke out the chess board. Max only scoffed at this, now only a square away from the snake leader. To his right, Amaury seemed ready to go as well, and Maksim attempted to catch his attention with a raise of his eyebrow. This was their moment— he could feel it.

The fourth and soon to be fifth year was excited. As it slowly neared the end of the duel, he could notice how the different duellists got nervous and were now giving it their all in this final phase of the challenge. Dmitri was in a terrible position, his movement was sluggish but he still willed a shielding charm into existence, which was even if quite risky, possibly the best he could do in this situation. Dodging like that just seemed impossible. Sarah would cast a Flipendo but miss her target with it, hindered by what seemed like captured in a charm, though her target was quite difficult to see within that fog; so that backfired. Alan shook his head, not literally backfired just well, figuratively of course. Both Maksim and Amaury would take the opportunity of seeing Dmitri in such a bad position and tried to cast a Flipendo at the Viridian Viper, not yet aware of the shield he had created. Maksim's jinx would ricochet and hit Amaury, who would have stumbled back from the force of the spell if he hadn't been at the edge of the playing field already. Amaury's spell however dissipated into thin air as it made contact with the invisible shield. Alan was flabbergasted, this was actually the first time he had ever seen Protego in action and made sure to take note of this. Astrea would heal two of her team mates, namely Adonis and Dmitri who appeared to be back in top shape, what an amazing healing power this spell had possessed! Slowly it turned to look quite bad for the student's from the school's abroad and he wondered if they got the match all sewn up now. Though he didn't dare to jinx it for them by celebrating early, so he would just hope silently as he watched on. Irina would also heal one of her team mates, making Henrietta feel a lot better for sure. At the end of this all Violet and Henrietta decided to adjust their positions as they stepped into a different cell.

Sarah knew these last few rounds - her next few choices - would be the difference between losing and winning this battle. Despite her faith in her own team, wouldn't shown time and time again that they were a force to be reckoned with, she could admit that these opponents were far better than she'd been expecting, or rather hoping for. And even though they were a player down, they seemed capable of holding their own. It made the young Slytherin change her tactics slightly, and she decided to cast instead of focus on spells which might be coming her way. Her eyes landed on an opposing bishop and she cast her spell - one which although being perfectly well cast, ended up missing her target. She huffed, irritated by the fog, but managed to quickly re-steady herself for what was coming next.

As the dust settled, a smug smile could be seen on Dmitri's face. His Protego was perfect—as it should be; one spell shattered in a shower of sparks while another one took a well-deserved detour—straight onto an opponent's chest.

A silent laugh would escape the captain's smirking mouth, unbidden yet not entirely unwelcome in this particular turn of events.

"Tick tock." He'd say as he feigned checking an imaginary timepiece on his wrist.

Irina could tell that the duel was coming to an end, they had been at it for a while with very little change. The only big change was that Felix had gotten knocked out earlier in the duel. No was a chance to make big moves and hope that they work out. Unfortunately while she was healing Ret, two of her teammates tried to hit the annoying other Queen. It didn’t work out and it looked like one of them got hurt. Taking a deep breath, Irina focused herself, if she wanted to win, they needed to act now.

Violet decided to change her position as she stepped into C2, the fog from fumos making it hard for her to look around at the scene. She was trying to focus on what her next move would be, tho it seemed like the Slytherins were on the right path. A smirk played on Violet's face as she followed the strategy that they had discussed before.

Iirectly in front of her, an invisible barrier shield shot up to surround her captain, shimmering red as a spell ricocheted out back toward the smokescreens of the other team. Taking advantage of their queen's taunting distraction, Astrea veered back on track from the momentarily ill-fated short detour out of healing to once more aid her team. Truly the support character! In another setting, she could be more aggressive with her actions, but with precious little time left in the match, they could not afford slip-ups. With everyone in seemingly better shape, their odds were slightly bettered.

Maksim's flipendo reflected solidly into Amaury as the Slytherin queen defended himself with a shimmering shield of magic. It was absolutely the worst possible outcome of Maksim's cast, but the French boy had to admit it was a well-cast jinx as he struggled to catch his breath.

The match was drawing to a close, both teams frantically dealing as much damage and healing to their opponents and themselves, respectively, as possible. While Amaury lived for such a close, intense duel as this one, he found himself grateful that the end was near. It was too close, anyone's game. He would be glad when he could take a calming breath for the first time since the match began.
