Quidditch

A crisp fall day on the Quiddith Pitch, the air was moist and cool and there was a strong eastward wind that was blowing the remaining leaves off the trees. The foliage was aflame with color, vibrants yellows, oranges and shades of crimson. Many of the branches had already gone bare but from above the landscape with spotted with fall's brilliance still. The grass appearing rather full, lush even, a bright emerald that would fade as winter takes the lands with its icy grip.
It was not going to be getting any warmer today, light jackets, shawls and warm drinks were a common sight this afternoon as the spectators celebrated both fall for its wonder and glory as well as a game of quidditch between two rival houses: Gryffindor v Hufflepuff. Last year Gryffindor won not only the House cup but also won in a three way competition against the other wizarding schools in an impressive display or fierce competitiveness. Hufflepuff was the winner of the year prior's Qudditch Cup and summer game, they completed that year wholly undefeated. Both houses had an incredibly good chance to take home the win on this day, making them an even more powerful rival to Ravenclaw and Slytherin, neither of whom have won the Quidditch Cup in recent years.Date: October 24
Time: 12 Noon
Weather: Partly cloudy with an east wind. Temperature 14 degrees Celsius (57 degrees Fahrenheit).

The roar of applause from all sides of the pitch on those massive stands would be deafening as the Quidditch players would start to trickle from their respective locker rooms and onto the field. Both houses had an impressive line up this year.
Their first string Seeker, @Ethen Emrys who presumably survived his encounter with a dark shadowy creature in a harrowing tale where he discovered the Infinity Gauntlet glove that was associated with the Dominus Mask as well as a population of murderous misfits. Possibly changed by the experience, possibly for the better or possibly traumatized, all he really needed to do was find that meddlesome snitch before Gryffindor did. If all else fails, @Stanley Buttons would be there to take over the reigns. A clever boy who had not had many opportunities to show what he was capable of on the pitch as of yet but that could possibly soon change depending on how aggressive Gryffindor plans to play today.
@Atlas Reid would be guarding Hufflepuff's rings as the House's first-string Keeper. There might be a strategic advantage having a couple on the pitch. Atlas is often seen in connection to Ethen. If Atlas fails or is too distracted seeing her lover pummeled by the other team, @Annie Morgan, Hufflepuff's second string Keeper does not see much but she would valiantly defend the Hufflepuff rings.
Their Beaters are truly their most terrifying line-up. With a powerful defense comprised of one of the two part giants in the school, @Quinn Healy their team Captain who could casually break in half most of the students (and arguably many adults) in this school and @Ami Procoppio a fifth year powerhouse and co-Captain who probably eats beef jerky and steroids with her protein shake in the morning. Their second string, @Vivian Fletcher being a wild card that would probably surprise House Gryffindor if allowed onto the pitch.
Finally, their chasers: @Serena Bowen, @Howard White a dhampir that probably would have made a terrifying beater and @Lily Cawthi made for an intimidating first string. Even if one of them is knocked off their broom and meets the grass, fifth year @Rosie Parker would replace them as the second string. They certainly were not keeping a weak back-up in this case.
Where Hufflpuff had a powerful offense, Gryffindor had a strong snitch game. With their co-captain also serving as their first string Seeker, @Evelynn Decipio, the girl ran a near perfect season last year. So well that @Gia Adelardm their second string was a relative unknown and therefore wild card.
Their Keepers were both experienced players as well. @Akari Kato as their first string defender of the rings and @Marshal Mozor a favorite among the female viewers that like less a pretty boy and rather the 'boy next door' look that he boasts who serves as their second string, present bench warmer.
@Gris Edelhardt is a seasoned veteran of the quidditch pitch. A favorite to knock off a broom early game due to her powerhouse potential was still a first string beater, potentially against medical advice. @Kage Suzuki was also gracing the field once again, a powerful beater with unexpected moves once in fight. If any of them get knocked from the sky, @Alice Grimmshaw is waiting on the bench for her chance to draw blood. A dangerous beater trio really.
Their chaser line up is also rather strong, their quaffle game alongside their snitch game was what won them their victory last year. Ladies favorite, pretty boy @Rafael D'Spacito has decided to play another year and serve as team captain. @Anastasia Beckett, a girl no guy wants to be on the wrong side of as a few already have and finally @Haley Rose a rising star among chasers. If any of them are knocked to the ground, new-comer and quidditch enthusiast @Arden Doherty would likely seal the deal and bring the team to victory.
An exciting match truly between two of the most powerful houses.

One of the first games of the season, and Rosie was benched.
As much as the girl didn't want to be entirely bummed about it, how could she not? She wanted to be out there! Not warming the bench for when one of her friends inevitably got knocked off their broom. Though, she had to remind herself, it was no one's fault but her own that she was second string. The girl signed up when teams were full. People had done the same as her, and were on the bench alongside her. But there was a tiny part of Rosie that just wanted to skip that whole part and get out there immediately.
Regardless, the Hufflepuff left the locker room with her fellow classmates, broom at her side as she headed towards the benches. "Kick some ass-" She was in the presence of first years, and probably her professors. "... Butts! Kick some butts!" She encouraged her team. She had a few friends who were in Gryffindor, but sadly, she would have to deal with her taunts until the game was over. If there was one thing her house was good at, it was Quidditch. It was one of the few things Rosie got real serious about too.
Though it was hard to be serious about it from the bench. Rosie would just have to obnoxiously cheer for her team meanwhile.

For the past few days, Suzuki had been practicing extra. It was perfectly appropriate, as he was extra excited for the first game this season. Today would mark the second game he'd played as a part of the Quidditch team, and the first time he played as a first string beater. He was excited. Plus, he had a new broom. It would be amazing.
They were playing against Hufflepuff, a pretty strong team. Of course, like every other team, there were new players, but still. Suzuki was excited.

First match of the season. Against Gryffindor. They had won the Quidditch cup last year and had beat the Foreign team. The memories of their loss to Gryffindor last time played vividly in her head, or at least what was explained to her by other students. That was her first game back from having left the team and she was put on a new position and a second-string at that. She didn't think she'd have to play, but alas she was wrong. It had all gone terribly wrong for them. But maybe not this time. Hopefully they could bag a win.
Annie snapped her head up as a small, cool breeze brushed past her face, making her body explode into a small shiver. She mentally thanked the sky that the Quidditch robes were semi-warm and padded. Although that didn't help if a bludger hurled itself at you at light speed. The brunette shook her head, gripped her broom handle and heard their team get called onto the field. She marched out, gave a small slightly nervous smile with an encouraging thumbs up to the rest of her teammates, feeling their robes brush against hers as she stood next to the benches.
"C'mon Atlas you got this! Go Puffs! Look on the bright side- it's not raining.. yet.. " She hollered out, her hands cupped around her mouth. After shouting she'd shuffle around, knocking her boot into the bench and found a vacant place to sit down. next o her, a loud feminine voice also cheered on their team.. in perhaps a more aggressive note. Annie would let out a small laugh at the chant but secretly she thought the same thing. It always started out good at the beginning of the game, all cheering and happy smiles. And then your heart jumps in your throat and your stomach gets in knots. Sometimes she was glad she couldn't see all of the chaos going on around her.
But no time for being a mood dampener. Let the game begin!

Howard's long legs carried him from the locker room towards the Quidditch pitch. It was that time of year again and he thanked the gods for it. The structure of the sport was good for him and kept his mind focused. It forced him to work in a group instead of falling prey to his antisocial tendencies. Being apart of a team gave the often aimless teenager purpose and the more time he spent around positive influences kept that dark beast within at bay. The summer had been a pivotal time in Howard's life, but it would take constant support from his teammates and peers if he wished to stay upon the right path. Well, as "right" as it would ever get for Howard White.
The excitement of the day was building and Howard was eager to take to the skies, but before he kicked off he would take a moment to greet all of his teammates. For some it would just be an encouraging pat on the back. For others it would be a quick word of advice. Either way it would be a drastic change from last year as they had most likely become accustomed to him standing in silence before rushing off into the air. Howard would stick close until his captains signaled for the warm up.
The nerves had been building all morning, but they quickly slipped away as Howard began to zoom around the pitch. Flying had become almost second nature to him and with practice he had turned out to be quite adept on the broom. After a few quick laps he would slow his pace and take a moment to take in the crowds. As he passed the Gryffindor stands he would look them over. If @Alan Vanes was in the crowd he would receive a playful sticking out of the tongue before he zoomed away. Howard would then fly back to his supporting Badgers, taking a moment to amp them up before the match started. "LET'S DO THIS!!" He mimicked a certain part Goblin as she bellowed her encouragement. @Serena Towers may do her best to avoid eye contact with him, but he would leave her little choice as he hovered nearby. "Wish me luck!" He called to her again. Whether see was looking or not he would shoot her a wink before swinging his broom back around and launching himself back towards the pitch.
As distracting as certain fans could be, Howard would refocus as he made his way towards starting position. They had had a losing season last year and Gryffindor was one of the teams that beat them. He was determined to fix that this year.

First match. Vivian swallowed the lump in her throat at that thought. Tho there is a possibility of her not playing in this match, she was so nervous and kept fidgeting as she entered the quidditch pitch. The cold air brushing past her made her shiver slightly, she didn't know if it's that cool for others as well or it's just her nervousness causing it. The blonde hugged herself for a brief moment before brushing away the strands of hair which escaped from the small buns of the sleek Dutch braid. Does everyone feels nervous or is she alone? she wondered, she didn't know if she should ask them. Probably it would be irrelevant at this moment. Glancing around the stands, she walked towards the bench folding her hands against her chest as fast as she could. she wanted to cheer her team but she couldn't open her mouth afraid that she'd stutter. Settling down on the seat, she clapped for her team as a smile spread on her face but a hint of timidity didn't get faded by that smile.

Was Alice dissapointed that her first game of the year was going to be spent benched? Yes, absolutely she was. She wasn't particularly surprised though. She was just second string, and a first year. She didn't even have a decent broom! Oh well, there was always next time. And at least she was here on the bench instead of sitting in the stands as a spectator! She wrapped her scarf, this time a gryffindor scarf instead of the one her grandmother had made that she was usually sporting, around her neck for warmth as she took her place on the bench. Something about all this felt frankly unreal. But it was happening! Who knows, maybe someone will get knocked off their broom and she'd get her chance to play!

Arden sat in the locker room as everyone else marched out. While he was experienced in sports, and took to the field plenty of times it was all muggle experience. He knew baseball, he knew rugby and football, but quidditch? This was his first ever real game since finding out that the wizarding world existed. Did he belong on the team? would he pull his weight or let his team down. The thoughts honestly has the boys stomach twisted into knots. Finally he took a deep breath and tied his long red hair back into pony tail to keep it out of his face and he stood up, grabbing hold of his dad's old broom and making his way out of the locker room.
He stepped out onto the pitch and the feeling was intense to say the least. It felt almost like the entirety of the school was here to watch the game. Students and professors were in the stands and even down here he could hear cheering and shouts of encouragement. he makes his way over to the bench and while part of his was disappointed to be sitting out the game, another part was grateful he would have time to ease into the experience.
Once he is sitting on the bench he looks over to the girl sitting next to him, she looks a little younger and the bat she has with her marks her as one of the Beaters on the team. He knows he had seen her around in practice but he hadn't really had the time so far to get to know his teammates. something he was about to try and remedy.
Arden nudges Alice slightly with his shoulder and gives her a slight smile "I don't know if I wanna scream with excitement, or throw up behind the stands." he gives a chuckle and looks towards his teammates taking to the air "not sure we have had a chance to properly meet yet. Arden Doherty"

It was not only the first game of the season, but also the first game for Haley that she was not benched. It would be an understatement to say she was excited but she tried her best not to show it. For the last few weeks she had been using most of her free time to train, the reasons for this were many and varied, but the result should be a clear advantage for her as a Quidditch player.
As Haley stepped onto the field with her team, the thunderous applause and cheering from the stands immediately rang out at her. The adrenaline in her body didn't let her feel the cold air blowing through her hair. With a wide grin, her broom in hand, and her heart beating madly, she made her way onto the pitch. "You got this Haley." Whispered the rookie to herself, straightening her shoulders, cracking her head once to the left and once to the right and getting ready to take to the air.

It was only a few minutes until game time. The sky was a grey overcast without a drop of rain to be seen—the perfect weather for Quidditch. There would be no blinding sun to fight against, no blurred vision obscured by rivulets of water in the eyes. Just a nice, subdued backdrop for what would hopefully be a clean game. Still in the locker room, the team finished their final preparations waiting for the announcement inviting them to head out onto the pitch. Before them, Evelynn stood, broom already in hand.
"Now we all know that our team has sustained some heavy losses since our last game over the summer. Vanes, Marchonné, Aden... their absences are going to be sorely felt." As she spoke, eyes that mirrored the cloud cover above the pitch surveyed the faces of each of her team members. "There are a lot of new faces this year, and although we've been working diligently during our practices, this is the first game of the season. Some of you have yet to experience that. There is bound to be a period of adjustment, and so I don't expect a perfect performance from any of you. What I do want, is for you to go out onto that pitch with your head in the game.
"Today, we start where we left off last year. Against Hufflepuff. Last time, they were riding the wave of momentum carried by their five game streak of victories. This time, we are the ones protecting that claim. And they will be thirsting to take back the crown. So prepare yourselves. I suspect this is going to be a vicious game. More so than usual. Procoppio and Healy will both be in the sky from the start. If we allow them, their bludgers will rip holes through our ranks until it is crimson, not ochre, that lines the pitch bed. Watch your flanks."
A silence fell over them all in that moment, Evelynn's own heart filling that gap to incite a pounding rhythm in her head. It was all she could do to keep her own nerves in check, knowing full well that she was about to be walking into her own blood bath. The notion of not only Healy, but also Ami, in the sky made the hair on the back of her neck stand on end and a sheen of cold sweat to mark her palms. Fingers closed over them, nails biting subtly into flesh in an effort to keep herself grounded. Until she actually had to take flight, anyway.
"They aren't the only threat in the sky, however. White will do as much damage if you ignore him. He has demonstrated already that he cares little for penalty laps and will knock us with reckless abandon. Keep eyes on him and communicate if you see him incoming for a blatch.
"At the same time, we can't ignore Emrys. While his reputation as a seeker has flown somewhat under the radar, he is still very good at what he does and should not be underestimated. If we ignore him for too long, he could easily end the game without our even realizing that he's closing in on the snitch. There's also a number of new faces. Parker and Fletcher among them."
Evelynn had had the fortune of getting a little bit of a sneak peak, having been invited by Ami herself to practice alongside the badgers a time or two. In some ways, that had given them an edge in knowing the strengths and abilities of some of the Hufflepuff players. On the other hand... she was reminded all too well just how terrifying their beaters were. Honestly, if the pair of them weren't scouted and offered positions on professional quidditch teams by the time their years at Hogwarts were through, someone was going to find themselves in an endless slumber.
"But you all know the strategy," she began again, reining in her dispersing thoughts and determined to close her verbose preamble on a strong note. "Last year, we were discarded and dismissed in the season, speculated to finish among the last. We were inexperienced, but we showed fierce determination. That is no less true now. We have talent, we have skill, we have more than a few recklessly stubborn streaks among our ranks, and now we have a few notches on our belts. Hufflepuff are big, and they can crack a bat. But first, they have to catch us. So keep your chins up, your eyes peeled, and your minds on the goal."
With that, she'd offer them all a final nod, determination evident in the creases at the corners of her mouth. Turning for the exit, her hand gripped tighter around the shaft of her broom. Its tail twigs were pristinely aligned, the handle polished to a sheen. Fingers of her free hand tugged lightly at the hem of her leather gauntleted gloves, fixing the fit. The dull clacking of her leather boot heels on the locker room floor faded nearly to silence with their transition to the lush grassy pitch. A moment later, she swung her leg over her broom, kicked off and sped a lap around the pitch, wind whipping at her hair into a crimson flag, before she settled into position around the ref.
