"What the..." Finley trailed off watching as a couple dozen pumpkins rushed past her on her way to her next class. She stopped, almost running directly into a pumpkin on its way to freedom. A couple of side steps later and she was left in the hall with only a few pumpkins meandering about the hall. She walked up calmly to one and attempted to grab it, only to have it hop out of the way and bound down the hallway. Finely had so many questions as she stood there watching the other pumpkins. Who let them loose, who made them sentient, why were they made sentient. However, the answers to those questions didn't matter. What mattered was catching the pumpkins.

She had neither spell nor potion to help her, being a first-year and all, so her best bet was to corner them and attempt to grab them. Though, something told her that her plan could only go so well. Finley took a careful few steps towards another pumpkin which promptly hopped away. "Well, this is going to be harder than I previously expected." The pumpkins seemed to turn and look at her, seemingly understanding the things she was saying. "I really need help, don't I."

Ah, October. Halloween was fast approaching, leaves were starting to turn orange and fall off the trees, the days were getting shorter and the weather was getting colder. The Fall Ball was also fast approaching, Adelaide didn't have a date and she didn't plan on finding one. Maybe she would have to ask one of her friends if they'd want to go together, platonically, obviously. Whether or not Adelaide ended up going alone, she was definitely still going. She would never dare miss her first ball at Hogwarts, the world could be ending and she would still find a way to go.

What she expected to just be another normal (or as normal as you can get in Hogwarts) day quickly turned into a slightly more interesting day. She had originally wanted to go to the Great Hall to do some studying, a change of scenery from the library. But while she was walking to the Great Hall, she saw something whizz past her. It was orange, with something akin to legs and arms that looked like they were made out of vines and it had a face. It looked like a pumpkin, but Adelaide was pretty sure pumpkins weren't meant to have human characteristics. "What the-" she was speechless as she watched pumpkins run throughout the hall. Looking up, she spotted a familiar face a couple feet away from her who currently looked like she was struggling to catch these things. "Hey! Finley!" She called over to her friend as she ran over to her, "Am I hallucinating or are these... pumpkins?"

Was this some sort of prank to welcome in the month of October? Were they meant to catch these pumpkins? She didn't know any spells to be able to apprehend the pumpkin, so her best bet was to try and catch it between her arms. "Well, this Tuesday just got a whole lot more interesting." She swung her bag off her shoulder, setting it down somewhere on the ground so it wouldn't get in the way. "So, should we just.. jump on top of one and hope for the best?" She asked Finley, she wasn't exactly sure how you were meant to catch a pumpkin. It had never occurred to her before that this would be something she would end up doing.

Finley spun around quickly, surprised to hear another voice. "Adelaide! You have no idea how happy I am to see you. No, they're defiantly pumpkins." Finley giggled at the sheer absurdity of it. Sentient pumpkins were roaming around the halls of Hogwarts because of someone. She finally burst into full-on laughing, while watching one of the pumpkins attempt to climb up on one of the benches in the hallway. Its legs were wrapped around the legs of the bench and arms hung over the seat. It was trying to pull itself up onto the seat but was too weak to do so.

Finley walked up to the pumpkin, stopping every time the creature turned to look back at her. "Yes, that is currently the plan." She rolled up her sleeves, determination visible on her face as she stared the pumpkin down from behind. "Maybe see if you catch one over there." Finely said, pointing to a group of around four pumpkins in a different hideaway in the corridor.

Finley returned her attention to the pumpkin in front of her and took another step towards it. The pumpkin stopped, and turned, seemingly now staring her down. It took a few steps towards her then stopped around two feet away. She shifted forward knowing that she couldn't make a jump that big. "If only we had magic on our side instead of theirs. Finley said absentmindedly as she took a few more steps towards the pumpkin before launching herself into the air and just barely landing on the pumpkin. She shifted a little, trying to get a better grip before holding on for dear life while the pumpkin tried to buck her off.

"I'm quite happy to see you too," Adelaide smiled at Finley, "though I wish we were meeting under less... weird circumstances." Adelaide watched in amusement as Finley burst into a fit of laughter as they watched a pumpkin attempt to make its way on top of a bench, her laugh was contagious and Adelaide couldn't help but let out a little chuckle herself at the sight.

She turned around to the area that Finley pointed to, seeing four pumpkins trying to hide from prying eyes. Unfortunately for them, Adelaide had now assigned one of them as her target. They were not going to be able to run free now for much longer, she was sure of that. Determination etched onto her features, the girl walked silently over to the pumpkins in hopes of not spooking them. She didn't have the time to turn around to see how Finley was doing with her pumpkin, too busy focused on the one in front of her. Luckily, it seemed to have not noticed her presence yet. Adelaide didn't have much of a game plan on how to catch this runaway pumpkin, she didn't yet know any spells to catch the pumpkin so she would just have to use her arms. Hopefully she didn't end up with bits of pumpkin splattered all over her robes.

She was getting closer to her target and it had seemingly not noticed her yet. Only a couple more steps and she would be ready to pounce like a predator with it's prey. The poor, unsuspecting pumpkin was still giggling mischievously. Rolling her sleeves up, the girl held her arms out, ready to catch this little guy. "Got you!" She lunged and wrapped her arms around the pumpkin in an attempt to keep it still, hoping it somehow wouldn't twist its way out of her grip.

Dice roll- 1d100 = 9 (Unsuccessful)

First mistake, never launch yourself at a rouge pumpkin. A girl learned this the hard way when the pumpkin started bucking like a Bronco and eventually escaped her, not liking it's hair or stem being pulled. Mistake number two. Don't make an angry pumpkin even more angry. A second girl did a nicer approach, hugging the circular thing. Perhaps this would have worked had it not already been angry. The pumpkin began screaming and kicking it's vine legs at being captured. Alas it realized it that it couldn't escaped. The pumpkin hadn't given up though. It started shaking, slowly at first then violently until it exploded. Pumpkin guts and seeds splattering the girls. Well, they learned their lesson. Pumpkins don't like hugs.

Unfortunately, your pumpkin didn't get caught and it exploded instead. As long as you fulfill the word count you can still earn the reward for the errand. You may continue your thread if you'd like :) Thanks for participating!
