It was quite a chilly afternoon in Scotland. While Willow watching fall transition into winter, what she didn't like was the rapidly dropping temperatures. She made a note to herself that she should probably find her winter cloak soon. She knew that she packed it, but where it was in her dorm was an absolute mystery to her. Beside her to take in some of the last few weeks of tolerable temperatures was her brother, Flash. Courtyard walks had been a daily occurrence in their first year, but as the years went on and they both became more busy the walks became more infrequent. Willow was now a duelling vice-captain, prefect, and a writer for Headliner. Her brother was always someone she made time for, and someone she spent time with on the daily. Walking to and from classes, eating meals together, they had established routines. They had just changed over the years. The consistency in the ever inconsistent Hogwarts was something that she valued.
Her hands were shoved deep in her cloak pockets to attempt to keep them warm. Her right hand was softly wrapped around the hilt of her wand, a practice she had taken up after too many surprise attacks far too many times. The seconds that could be saved with her hand already holding her wand were valuable. There would be no fumbling, only precise attacks. The latest had been a Slenderman like figure showing up in the common room just about a month ago. Willow had sent her entire house into the basements. It had already been put behind her. There was no time to steep in harsh memories that attempted to stitch their way to the forefront of her brain.
No, times beside her brother, breathing in the crisp autumn air were a time for relaxation and peace. At least... that's always what she hoped. Flash and Willow had lulled into one of their comfortable silences. Leaves crunching beneath their shoes. Soft winds bristled through the trees, sending more crisp leaves into the courtyard. It was perfect. Nearly. From the castle barreled a pumpkin. Was that a pumpkin? She casted a glance over at Flash, to see if he saw what she was seeing, to make sure she wasn't hallucinating. "That's... that's a pumpkin. Right?" An ever observant badger as the pumpkin seemed to barrel right towards them.
It was getting too close for her comfort, and while Flash usually protected her, the duellist felt quite confident for once as she slipped her wand out of her pocket and pointed it at the hopefully innocent pumpkin. "Immobulus!"Action || Casting Immobulus at the pumpkin.

There was one thing that didn't change as the years went by: his relationship to Willow. Since their argument during first year, the two of them had been completely inseperable. They met on numerous occasions throughout the week, ate their meals together, talked about their classes and their friends, about dueling and Quidditch. There was nothing more uncomplicated in Flash's life-- they were always meant to be together.
To Flash, Willow had always been like warm sunlight on a cool day, a vibrancy much needed to a boy always dogged by a raincloud. She made him feel normal, accepted, wanted. There was the closeness of family, of having endured hardship together, and having shared their home. Well... Willow shared her home with Flash. Though it had been dropped for Flash's comfort, even after knowing each other for several years, Flash rarely spoke about his family. Even as he texted her over the summer, he didn't describe the situation he had found himself in. In fact, there were a lot of things he didn't tell Willow about. For her own good.
Lately, he needed all the happiness and warmth he could get, and he would lean on the love she so bountifully provided. Her joy, her enthusiasm, and her passionate spirit always lifted him from whatever toxic sludge he had mired himself in, whether she meant to or not. He in turn lavished her with encouragement, advice, and praise. They were family. The only family he cared about.
The season was perhaps his favorite, though he regretted that he wouldn't be part of the students putting together the Fall Ball this year. It was a conscious decision, he felt doing so would only lead to another public panic attack, so he would just concenrate on school and Quidditch, and enjoy the ball as a guest without having to worry. It was only... he had so many ideas... well, he knew better than he had the previous years. He wasn't invincible, he only had so many pieces of himself to give away before he was left with nothing. This year was about spending time wisely, which meant he would have to regretfully miss out on things he wanted. It was hard to loosen the reigns after knowing how good power felt.
He was relaxing with Willow on a stroll around, spending as much time out in the fresh air as possible while the temperature was still palatable. Though he was relaxed, he would certainly notice the movement of a brightly colored gourd heading their way. Animated vegetation was not foreign to him, but it was not every day that it was traipsing through the halls of the school. It must have been some kind of accident.
Impressively, Willow quickly also noticed, grabbing her wand and casting a spell before Flash could himself decide how best to assess the situation. He knew she had been working hard in her position as co-captain of the dueling team, but it still made his heart swell with pride to see her handling herself so well. He had seen it at that Blossom Ball, too, when she stood her ground and fought off the mosps with him. It was another part of what he loved about her.
"That's a pumpkin." Flash replied helpfully.

1d100 Dice Roll: 91 - Successful
Yes young man, indeed it was a pumpkin. Out for a stroll, in the courtyard. Thanks to the boy's observation and the girl's quick thinking the Immobulus casted was successful. Unfortunately for the pumpkin it was skipping along happily before being slowed in mid-air. When the pumpkin realized what was going on it seemed the spell had broken, perhaps it wasn't the strongest? The pumpkin fell and started wailing, holding it's little vine legs similar to how a little kid did when they scraped their knee. Poor dude, at least the havoc came to an end.

After the confirmation that it was indeed a giant bumbling gourd barreling towards them, it was quite easy to cast her spell. There was no stress of a duel happening around her, or certain life or death. Training in high stress situations paid off well for normal spell casting. Her grin of success in front of her brother didn't last long though. Willow was one that tended to be on the hyper-empathetic end of things. Especially with plants. She believed that they lived and breathed similarly to humans. They had feelings and emotions. They helped when they could. It was one of the foundational principles of the witchcraft that she did at home. Flash had seen this early on in their relationship where her hand was majorly pricked by a plant and she didn't tell him out of fear that he would make her stop attending to the plants.
So, when this pumpkin dropped and curled up like a little child that had been hurt and started crying? Willow's face dropped. "Oh no... Oh no, no no." She couldn't help but tear up and break into a run to catch up with the little pumpkin to coddle it. Her body nearly crash landed next to it and held it gently. "Oh buddy I'm sorry! I was just scared, just like you are now. Oh Goddess, I am so sorry." She looked up at Flash with a couple of dramatic tears rolling down her face. "We have to play with it. I made it sad." The puppy dog eyes of steel were present, and she would fight for this semi-sentient pumpkin to be happy again.

Willow cast her spell to stellar success, earning an enthusiastic proud smile from her brother. When he looked over to her though, her own smile faded in seconds. As she started to declare something urgently, Flash's head whipped back, fearing it had broken out of the curse or something terrible. Instead, it was in something of a fetal position. Flash understood, Willow felt bad for hurting it. With any kind of danger a distant memory, Flash would casually follow her to its side as she coddled it. He knew this wasn't a frivolous concern, plants were a serious matter to her. In fact... yes, she was crying.
Flash bent down at the knee and gave Willow a hug, including the pumpkin for posterity, despite himself certain this was only an enchanted facsimile of life. If it mattered to Willow, it mattered to him, no if ands or buts. To her intention of 'playing with it', though he had some reasonable doubts.
"I think we ought to find out where it came from first." He stated, rubbing her back to calm the tension growing there. "Once we understand, we'll make sure its treated properly. Whatever activity that involves."
As overly mature as always, this hardly seemed like a bad way to spend an afternoon. Whatever Willow had in mind to cheer up the pumpkin once they found out more about it, he was sure would bring warmth to his heart. He would never tire of the sparkle of kindness inside her. If it had been him alone, he might have simply destroyed it. This, while more work, was nicer.

While comforting the pumpkin Willow felt herself pulled into an embrace by what could only be Flash. The three of them, including the pumpkin of course in a warm embrace. The pumpkin seemed to be calming down, but Willow was not an expert in pumpkin feelings. The pumpkin pasties she had eaten with breakfast seemed to swirl violently in her stomach. Would the pumpkin know she had eaten pumpkin? It was magical but surely not that magical. The tears seemed to slowly subside from Willow as well once Flash started offering solutions.
He had always been much more solution based than Willow, a source of grounding for the young badger who's head was constantly up in the clouds. Her emotions guided her first, while his brain seemed to guide him. It was one of the ways that they easily balanced each other out. Occasionally Flash needed some whimsy, such as accepting someone as his sister the first time they met in class. Sometime Willow needed to remember that maybe a sentient pumpkin needed to be returned to it's origin rather than prancing in a field with two young wizards.
The calm rubbing of her back was what fully brought her back to Earth, a familiar feeling of comfort washing over her. "You're right. Maybe it's a decoration for Halloween gone rogue?" She gently rubbed its... head? as she thought about where it might've come from. "I don't remember sentient pumpkins last year though..." Maybe it was a prank? Students seemed to love doing those, though Willow thought they were always too much work.
