Outfit: Black leotard, tights Adelaide's stomach had been doing somersaults all week. She longed for the comforting feeling of her own bed, the need to be buried in her own pillows and blanket was overwhelming. It's not that she didn't love Hogwarts so far, she was absolutely thrilled to finally be here and to be learning magic, but she just missed home. She missed her parents, mostly. It felt weird being away from them, not being able to go to your mother or father and being able to talk to or hug them whenever you pleased was something Adelaide couldn't quite get used to. Her sister was, obviously, of no help, she had been avoiding Adelaide like the young girl carried a severe case of dragon pox. Honestly, she even longed for a row with Eloise, just to hopefully feel some sense of normality.
Hogwarts was amazing, but it didn't yet feel like home. The castle walls were unfamiliar, her bed in her dorm was comfortable but it wasn't her bed. Having to eat your meals in a hall surrounded by hundreds of students wasn't actually that terrible, but the level of noise meant Adelaide was constantly plagued by headaches. She knew it would get better with time, it was normal for every first year to feel homesick when they first arrive, her parents had assured her that Hogwarts would start feeling like home within the first month. She really hoped they were right.
Her homesickness was what had brought Adelaide to take the walk down to the Rehearsal Room. If she couldn't have her parents with her, or sleep in her own bed, at least she still had dance. Adelaide loved ballet, there was just something relaxing about having to focus solely on your body instead of focusing on the worries circling about in your mind. Dance was like a tidal wave, once Adelaide started dancing, all her prior worries were washed away as her mind zeroed in on her dancing. She had changed into some more comfortable clothing for dancing and had made her way from the common room to the Rehearsal Room. It was around 2pm on a Saturday, so she really hoped no one else was there.
When she walked into the Rehearsal Room and saw that it was empty, she sighed in relief. She immediately took notice of a piano in one corner, she'd probably end up coming here to practice at some point in the year. But for now, she was here to dance. She give a little nod of acknowledgement to the portraits lining the wall, not even knowing if they were actually watching her or not. She moved over to the gramophone in one corner, fiddling with it until it started to play some music. She then moved to the centre of the room and started to stretch, an obvious ritual before she started dancing. If you didn't stretch before doing ballet, you were setting yourself up for a whole pile of injuries. Ballet was hard to do, but Adelaide still loved it, it was a form of art that took a lot of time and practice to master.
Once she had finished stretching, she started to dance in time with the music. She let her body take control, the music flowing through her veins guiding her. She trusted her body to do the moves she had spent ages perfecting from muscle memory alone. It was peaceful as her homesickness and stress slowly started to wash away as she let the music and dance take control.
