A proposal to the dance to @Haley Rose
Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl who met a handsome guy. The two fell in love and they lived happily ever after. That's how so many fairy tales went, perhaps with additional details sprinkled in here and there. That was fine and dandy for fairy tales but not always did it apply to real life.
Boy meets girl. Boy falls for girl. Complications happen. That was more what real life was like.
Still, despite the current distance between he and his girlfriend, Haley Rose, Simon still wanted to be with her. He wanted to work it out and he wanted to go back to being her secret keeper who she trusted more than anyone. He wanted to hang out with her again, whether it was to plan dates here and there like his art day or her St. Patrick's Day dinner, or maybe to do nothing but get together in the Library and work on their schoolwork together. It didn't matter to him.
Hearing the announcement that the Autumn Ball was approaching, he put aside any insecurities he currently felt about their relationship and ask Haley to be his date. After some planning, he decided to go with the Teddy Bear Approach. He ordered a teddy bear and after it had arrived he attached some flowers and a small note with it and handed it off to a first year Gryffindor girl. "Please make sure Haley Rose gets this. She's in your house, Gryffindor. I appreciate it," he flashed the girl a smile and handed it off. She smiled in return and happily agreed to be his messenger.

Things have been hard for Haley lately. Trying to repress things, not letting them affect her, and at the same time promising to talk about them. But how could she talk about it when she actually wanted to repress it? It was not only a difficult time for her, but also for the relationship between Simon and her. It was almost a miracle that he hadn't broken up with her yet, at least that was what Haley thought. It was unfair to him, she knew that too, but she found it too hard to change her actions.
As so often lately, she spent the afternoon alone in her dorm. The other girls were all out. In the library, doing homework, meeting up with friends. Actually, Haley didn't care what they were doing either, as long as she had her peace and quiet, and that was the case. She lay on her bed, a book in her hand. She started to read the sentence again from the beginning for the third time, but each time her mind drifted and the words didn't come back to her brain processed. Frustrated, she closed the book and threw it on the small cupboard next to her bed. She closed her eyes and crossed her arms over her face. She was annoyed with everything, but mostly with herself.
Before she could have sunk more into her self-pity, there was a sudden knock at the door. "Ugh." Haley braced herself from her bed, confused by the fact that someone was knocking on the door. She opened it, but there was no one in sight. "Are you-" before she could grumble further, she noticed something that wasn't eye level. There was a teddy bear in front of her feet. Still confused, she crouched down and picked up the little bear. Before she could even read the text on the card, she noticed the handwriting and the first thing that caught her eye was the name that was signed. Simon.
A small smile formed on her lips. She took the teddy and closed the door with her foot as she took the card and read the message carefully. Her smile only grew. Even at times when things were obviously tense between them, he would think of something to make her day. He still wanted to go to the ball with her and clearly hadn't given up on her yet. Her heart was warmed but at the same time she felt guilty. She felt more than bad, she didn't deserve Simon.
She took the bear and snuggled into bed with it. She would have to make it up to him, she would make it up to him.
