Her first real day at Hogwarts had been an absolute chaos. The castle is extremely big, especially for someone so small as Zylpha. There were too many corridors, too many rooms, too many changing stairs and hidden passages... Zylpha just couldn't keep up! She was still switching from her 'old life' to her present-day life: new home, new people, new rhythm, new problems, new goals, etc.
However, she did manage to find the most important place of Hogwarts, if you would ask Zylpha, that is... The library! She was looking forward to the end of her lessons, even on her first day. Not that she wasn't interested, on the contrary! The lessons were great and refreshing. Yet, she yearned for more books, for reading, for seeing the oh-so famous library her mother told her about! And after a lot of searching and being on the brink of a slight mental breakdown, she suddenly found it!

As she roamed through all the shelves and all the different sections of the library, she was pulled to the 'Magical Creatures' section. Back in Aberdeen Zylpha could be found in the forest on a daily basis, 'studying' the animals there. She drew them, wrote down notes in her little notebook and so on. Odd behaviour for a regular child, perhaps, but Zylpha did not need anyone besides Holly at that point in her life. Now she was in a completely new world. New people to meet, a chance to take a different course and be more social. Yet, the pull to nature was still strong in her interests, and even though her parents learned her a lot about the wizarding world and even though she had encountered some small magical critters, she was still curious about all the other Magical Creatures that lived in the massive world. Dragons, she knew, Occamy's as well, she was searching for the more abstract, more rare creatures...
She pulled out a rather old and dusty book from the Magical Creatures-section. The book was beautiful: red, leather bound, mystical ornaments in the cover... She seated herself on the floor, with her back against the shelf and flipped the book open, her eyes filled with awe as she scanned through the pages.

Zylpha wasn't the only first-year, who had to deal with the chaos of Hogwarts. From the boat ride to the ever-changing hallways within the castle. It was a bit too much for Maria to handle, because they are used to having a peaceful life with her family.
Not even their first attempt at entering the Hufflepuff's common room was safe from the chaos, since the vinegar trap got all over their wizard outfit when they did the wrong tapping pin on the barrels.

Despite having to deal with that, Maria was able to find one of the few places where it wouldn't be chaotic during their trip around the hallways in Hogwarts. The place they found was the library, and upon entering it. They got a bit excited about seeing all of the books there, because they love to read the magical creatures books.
In fact, her tutor read the magical creatures book to her before they arrived at Hogwarts, since they wanted to know about that.

Wandering around the different sections in the library, Maria found the magical creatures section, and then looked through the shelves for a phoenix and unicorn book. They were getting those books, because they wanted to know more about them before the magical creatures professor introduced them to her in the future. Not to mention, her wand has a unicorn core, so it would be a good idea to do that. 'I wonder if we get to ride on a unicorn in the future, because I heard that they are beautiful from my tutor and my parents.' thought Maria, who was daydreaming about the unicorn ride.

Zylpha had seen another person in the Magical Creatures section. It seemed as if they were picking out some books to read. So, as Zylpha sat down with her own book on Magical Creatures, she did not pay much attention to them. However... As Zylpha passed on to the seventh creature in her book, and the other person had not moved yet, Zylpha got curious...

She looked up to see them staring into nothing, clutching some books to their chest. Zylpha made a funny face, while she watched. She may have recognized the other person from one of her lessons that day. They were definitely first-years, somehow things like that show. It may be that they look a bit more chaotic than people that have been at Hogwarts for some longer time, it may be the constant hint of despair, Zylpha could not put her finger on it. Yet, somehow she could identify herself with the chaos and the despair.

Almost a minute had passed, and it was a weird sight. The person was staring into nothing, and Zylpha was staring at them. Zylpha started to feel a slight hint of worry, so she carefully closed her book and got off from the ground. She took a deep breath before approaching the first-year very carefully. "Uhm, hi," Zylpha whispered awkwardly. "Are... Are you allright?"

Maria snapped out of their daydreaming upon hearing someone say hello to her. "Hello, and sorry about that. I was daydreaming about a unicorn ride, but I kind of forgot about being in the library for a few minutes there," said Maria. She was rubbing the back of her head, because she was embarrassed about letting that happen. "Anyway, are you looking at the magical creatures books? If so, I got a phoenix and a unicorn book with me. We can read it together if you would like to do that."
Maria gave the unknown girl a warm smile, because she didn't want them to be too worried about her after what just happened. 'I need to stop doing that, since nobody knows about the daydreaming thing yet.' thought Maria. They were thinking about that, because the last time the daydreaming problem happened. Her tutor was poking her right shoulder, since she was daydreaming about petting a dragon.

Maria waited for the unknown girl to respond after they said that. She didn't want to be rude by dragging them to a random table, since there was a possibility of them being friends. "Oh. Did you know that the magical creatures book we got from Diagon Alley mentions fairies? My tutor showed me that page before I got here, because I wanted to know what was in the book." said Maria. They said that, so the unknown girl would be interested in talking to her about the topic. Not to mention, fairies are interesting creatures.

Zylpha was relieved to see that they were alright, as they snapped out of the daydreaming. Moreover, Zylpha had been relieved that it was just daydreaming. Zylpha had seen her share of weird spells that would make people completely catatonic, and considering she was in a school surrounded by loads of magic, one could never know. Zylpha always thought the catatonic spells were cruel, but some of the pure-blooded friends of her parents were just that, cruel...

Zylpha listened carefully as the person kept on rambling about magical creatures, and books. Zylpha shared their enthusiasm and was happy to see there was someone at Hogwarts the could potentially share her enthusiasm with. Zylpha smiled when the person was done speaking, she even chuckled a bit. "I actually got a very old Magical Creatures Encyclopedia right here!" Zylpha said, holding up the old leather-bound book, she had carried under her arm. "However, Phoenixes and Unicorns sound incredible as well. We could read all three books together, if you want?"

Zylpha looked around and saw a study table not too far from them, and motioned towards it. As Zylpha slowly started moving towards the study table, she continued talking to the person whom shared her love for magical creatures. "As for the faeries in our study book, I was aware indeed! Such mesmerizing creatures... Did you see the page about Mooncalfs as well? I adore those..." Zylpha placed her thick encyclopedia on the study table and looked up at them. "My name is Zylpha by the way, first-year! And Ravenclaw, as you might have guessed by the robes. How about you?"

Maria wasn't expecting for Zylpha to chuckle at what she had to say, since she wanted to make it interesting for them. The girl then told her about their very old Magical Creatures Encyclopedia, and this got Maria's attention. "That is awesome, and I would love to read the three books with you. Especially since you love to read magical creatures books as much as I do," said Maria, who was smiling.

Looking at the study table that the girl was motioning towards, Maria followed behind Zylpha, and sat down in an empty chair. "Yeah. Fairies are beautiful creatures, and don't get me started with the Mooncalves. The book said that they have big eyes, so I wouldn't be surprised if everybody thinks of them as a weird creature once we get to see them in person." said Maria.
The girl introduced her name as Zylpha after they put their thick encyclopedia on the study table. "My name is Maria, and I am also a first-year. I have yellow on my robe, because I am a Hufflepuff, and do you want to be friends?" said Maria.
She was curious as to how Zylpha was going to respond to the friend thing, since they just met each other in the library. 'I hope Zylpha doesn’t mind the friend thing, because I do like to make new friends.' thought Maria.

Zylpha listened to the enthusiastic talking of the person, while she came to the study table where Zylpha was now seated. Zylpha really admired their enthusiasm for Magical Creatures, something Zylpha definitely shared. She was both happy and relieved to have found someone she felt she could talk with, and possibly also have a good time with. The person introduced themselves as Maria, a name that Zylpha always had found very pretty, a fellow first-year student from Hufflepuff.

Zylpha had not met anyone from Hufflepuff, so this intrigued her. Zylpha knew all about Slytherin, thanks to her parents, and Ravenclaw she had seen herself. In class she had heard some people from Gryffindor talk about their dormitory and all that, but she had never heard anything about Hufflepuff yet. Zylpha smiled at Maria, as she asked if she wanted to be friends with them.

"Nice to meet you, Maria," Zylpha started. "I've never met anyone from Hufflepuff yet! What is it like there...?" Zylpha gave Maria a curious look. "As for friends, after hearing you talk with such enthusiasm about Magical Creatures, I'm one hundred percent positive we could be friends!" Such an Ravenclaw answer... Zylpha thought by herself. Zylpha smiled happily and relieved at Maria. Relieved that she had found a potential friend, happy that she would no longer be alone. "As for those Mooncalves... I honestly cannot wait till we see one! Have you ever seen one?" Zylpha noticed how she became more and more enthusiastic, and she had to remind herself she was in a library and therefore had to be a little quiet or preferably whisper...

A big grin formed on Maria's face when Zylpha asked them about what it's like to be a Hufflepuff, because they have no clue how awesome the Hufflepuff's dormitories are. "Well, I can tell you how awesome the Hufflepuff's dormitories for the girls are. We have a colorful dormitory that has a spa day, a paint night, or a station for nail polishing or hair dying. A beautiful dormitory that has a lot of plants, a white room dormitory beside the seven items thing, and a free snack per a day dormitory. Hufflepuff doesn’t have to go to the great hall, because we are near the kitchen. However, the other houses don't know how cool our common room or our dormitories are, because none of the Hufflepuffs like to brag about it." said Maria. "Our common room is a comfy place to be at, because there are plants and a warm fireplace."
After Maria got that out of her system, her eyes went wide open upon hearing Zylpha say that she wants to be her friend. The little Hufflepuff got up from her seat, and hugged Zylpha, because she was happy. "YAY! A NEW FRIEND!" said Maria, shouting. They then remembered that they were in the library, so she stopped the shouting. "Sorry about that. I got a bit excited, and as for the Mooncalves. I have never seen one, but I know what household magic is." said Maria. She said that in a quiet voice, since they didn't want the librarian to be mad at them.

Zylpha listened carefully while Maria described the Hufflepuff Dormitory. They sounded beautiful to her, but so did the Ravenclaw Dormitory. Essentially, one could say that Zylpha found most parts of Hogwarts beautiful. She loved the somewhat dark, but magical atmosphere, the Gothic and Victorian architecture, and the woodwork of all furniture. She had been in some muggle furniture shops, back when Holly's parents were redecorating their old family mansion. However, Zylpha had a serious distaste for anything slightly modern.

Zylpha was startled by the sudden enthusiastic hug from Maria. Zylpha wasn't much of a hugger, but she was pleased with the warm excitement of Maria. Zylpha was in need of a friend, and was happy that Maria there for her. Zylpha chuckled as Maria seemed to remember they were in a library, and then looked around whether there were any annoyed students to be seen. However, the library seemed still quite empty. It was early in the schoolyear, so perhaps students were holding off with the constant studying in the library, until some weeks later.

"That's very sweet of you, Maria," Zylpha said eventually. "Do you think we will see Mooncalves here at Hogwarts?" Zylpha asked them. Then, Zylpha remembered Maria's excitement over the Hufflepuff Dormitory. "Hufflepuff surely seems great! I never knew, although, to be fair, I had no idea what to think of Hufflepuff in the first place," Zylpha chuckled. "Do you have a lot of friends there?" Zylpha eventually asked.
