The two of them had decided that they were headed for the sweets and luckily had already gotten a chance to eat some of them. The donut Lavinia ate turned out to be very good and she found herself eating the entire thing. Following the cookie lover (Greta) towards the smell of freshly baked cookies, Lavinia was a little more enthusiastic than before. The combination of the donut with the pure happiness radiating off Greta made her excited to get to the end of the maze.
Turning the corner into a corridor, Lavinia was awestruck at the sight in front of her. It looked like at least hundreds of cookies floating in the air. Before even throughly examining them, Greta pointed to a ginormous cookie and it caused Lavinia to have a bit of doubt. What if the cookies were a lure just like the riddle she had received a few days ago. It all seemed too easy and as much as Lavinia wanted to express her concerns, Greta’s face of joy made her do it in a nicer way. “That’s awesome! I’m not sure of you should touch it though, it could be a trap.” Lavinia said genuinely to Greta. The cookie did look delicious but could very well be trapped.
They had somehow gotten lucky and not experienced any bad parts of the maze yet. Knowing that it would be useless for them to split up, Lavinia followed Greta while trying her hardest to not touch any of the floating cookies.

The path opened up as they made the turn, Kit quickly realizing why this had been the chosen route. Everything seemed more spacious now, a little more time to react before the vines could reach out and grab them. Of course, this maze seemed to provide new hazards at every turn. It would only be a matter of moments before she realized, preparing to address the questions when her shoe splashed into the water. Fun, she thought sarcastically, before moving onto the more important topics.
"Never? I thought I would be going to Ilvermorny- it was the closer magical school. But they had other plans about that, so Beauxbatons it was." Ilvermorny had always sounded like a more relaxed school to be at, not as preppy and pretty as the French school was. Yet she suspected nothing much would have changed between the two schools except her parent's comments. Who knew, maybe they had planned out something more than the redhead had realized.
Kit would hardly realize the increased puddle height, shoes already drenched as she splashed through the water. It wasn't a pleasant feeling, but at least she could dry off later- assuming they ever found the exit. Maybe this entire path was just a dead end. For now, though, it was another choice of direction.
"Yeah, maybe it's the right way, but I'd prefer avoiding any traps." If they were worried about it, she would stick with their judgement- best not to separate from the group after so long.

After their run in with angry plants, the students were more aware that there would be traps to be found within the maze. As if the Groundskeeper wanted to place the students in peril...So the Out of Order Sign prompted Flash to lead Opeila and Katherine to the left and away from the potential hazards to the right. As a way to stay mostly dry, that may have been a good call and the left path seemed to open up some as they walked. There was finally room between them and the walls of the two students. And then there was a click…
As Flash stepped down along the path there was an audible clicking sound. All of a sudden, the ground in front and behind Flash, Katherine and Opeila plummeted away. They were stuck standing on a small grassy platform with a pit on all sides. It was too dark in the sudden pit to see how deep they were but they could see to the other side. It was about a fifteen foot gap from their little platform to the ‘safe’ ground in front of them or behind them. There was little room enough for Opeila, Katherine and Flash to both stand on the platform, let alone move. But they probably wouldn’t want to remain on the platform for long...there was no telling when it too might just fall away.

It took some considerable strength to pull the lever and there was a rough grinding sound as the lever finally gave way and switched to the other side. But nothing...Nate was deep in the mud. It was freezing and impossible to breathe and to make matters worse...Nothing was happening. But after a few tense moments there was a sudden bubbling noise. And then immense suction. Nate would find himself suddenly being pulled towards the back of the muddy chamber and to the bottom of the pool. It was almost like the entire pool of mud was being drained.
Sure enough Nate would find himself being pulled through an opening at the corner of the pool. A doorway had opened from the lever that was quickly draining the pool and Nate was spewed out onto the other side. Mud and Nate were launched into a new chamber of the maze. He could breath now and was no longer swimming as the large chamber had more than enough room for the drained mud pouring through the gap. But at the other side of the chamber was a left and a right path if Nate still had the strength to go on after catching his breath.

Cookies were everywhere and just asking to be eaten! The sweet toothed Greta was not about to pass up the chance to enjoy one of the floating cookies and took a nibble. It was a perfectly warm and soft cookie teeming with flavor. A delicious morsel! Even Lavinia seemed to be pleased with her companion’s continued excitement for everything. They had expertly avoided some of the more dangerous portions of the maze and it seemed like all the cookies were like a reward. But Lavinia was very careful to not grab any of the little cookies.
Even with Lavinia’s caution, Greta had already taken her bite… As the girl wandered up to the massive cookie. The cloud of little cookies began to move. First just the one she bit seemed to fly over and stick to Greta’s back. Then another...and another. Soon enough all of the hundreds of little cookies were flying right at Greta and magically sticking to the young girl. A few cookies wouldn’t have been an issue. But hundreds were heavy and they were quickly covering every inch of Greta. Burying her under the weight of sugary goodness! Lavinia would watch as her companion became covered from head to toe in layers of cookies and unable to move. As the cookies began to get more mushed together even breathing would slowly become more challenging.
Available Directions: Lavinia can continue forward or try to help Greta. Greta cannot move but can try to escape her cookie prison!

Flash spent most of the time listening to the other two, it seemed like they had coincidentally hit it off. It did momentarily make him wonder about the rest of the large group they had been a part of, and whether they were all alright. He didn't hear any screaming or anything, it could have been that it was enchanted not to let sound carry, but also, perhaps they were all having fun? He couldn't say as much for the boy who went off alone, but he assumed he had other problems if he was so intent on ditching everyone else.
"So it was your family's choice." Flash said, a somber tone that he would normally not use. Before, he would mask such bitterness in order to preserve a light tone for pleasant company, but with having visited his family only recently, the wound was still fresh.
He wouldn't have time to excuse his rudeness, as not long into the new pathway, the ground promptly dropped on either side of them. Startling for sure, but luckily none of them were immediately hurt. It was just another trick, something to overcome. Flash's wand was already out, and he wondered whether it would be of any use to him.
"I don't know if this will work, but I'm going to give it a shot." Flash explained, looking back to the two girls briefly before turning to the pit in front of him, "Alarte Ascendare."

Nate used all his strength to pull the lever. He couldn't see anything, his eyes were squeezed shut to protect himself from the mud. The air in his lungs was running out and his biceps were burning from all the strength he was using to somehow get out of this maze. He pulled and pulled, but nothing happened. Just when he was about to give up, he felt an invisible force pulling him backwards. He could hear a muffled bubbling in the mud and hoped that this was his way out.
His strength left him and he finally let go of the lever. His body was being pulled away with the mud and his focus was fully on continuing to hold his breath. The burning in his lungs was becoming unbearable and he knew he would not last much longer. He pulled his body together and wrapped his arms protectively around his head, but after a few more moments he couldn't take it any longer. Nate wrenched his eyes open and gasped for air and to his surprise his lungs actually filled with air too.
He was no longer swimming in the mud and wilted onto his side. He coughed and held his chest as he tried to fill his lungs and body with air between coughs. He knelt on all fours and breathed deeply and violently as he slowly regained consciousness. But with the adrenaline disappearing, he also noticed how freezing cold it was. He started to freeze and tried to somehow free himself from the mud that stuck to him everywhere. After a few miserable attempts to wipe the mud off him with his hands, he grabbed his wand and performed the Extinguishing Spell to free himself from the mud with the help of the water. He already was soaked , then rather with water than mud.
It took some time for him to regain his composure and his strength as he began to look around the new chamber. His teeth chattered from the cold and he tried to somehow escape the chill with his arms folded against his body. On the other side of the chamber he could now choose again - right or left. "Please be the way out of this maze." he whispered softly to himself as he chose the right path.

Greta had eaten a cookie. Maybe she couldn’t understand what Lavinia said or just wanted to eat it anyway because they looked very nice. As Lavinia saw Greta take a bite, she held her breath. Were the cookies safe or was something bad about to happen?
The answer was obvious to her when Greta moved away from the cookie and the cookie followed her. “GRETA WATCH OUT!!!!!” Lavinia yelled out trying to warn her. Then the cookie landed on her back. As quickly as it started, soon enough, there were hundreds of cookies flying all at Greta.
This was not good at all and the only thing that Lavinia could think was all good things always come to an end, this is all just another complex lure to harm us. It seemed like this maze was trying to kill them and now Lavinia needed to act quickly. She had to get rid of the girl who broke down when any danger was faced, there was no one else here to save Greta and this was her chance to help out.
Calming her somehow rushed breath, Lavinia focused on how Greta must be feeling, she was covered in cookies that tricked her. In addition, the cookies were probably hurting her. Grabbing her wand out of her pocket, Lavinia focused on getting to cookies off of Greta. “RELASHIO!!!!” she yelled at the cookies covering Greta.

Warm, gooey, deliciousness had erupted across Greta's tongue the moment she had taken a bite. It was like biting straight into a dreamy wonderland, the flavour reminding her of home and all things lovely. She couldn't even begin to describe the specific parts of the flavour profile except to say that she knew she would want another bite. And so she had taken another little nibble of a different floating cookie, and another, humming merrily to herself in contentedness with a little shake of her shoulders, almost dancing her way to the giant massive cookie. And completely oblivious to the harrowing trap she had sprung.
All of a sudden, a voice would call out her name at the exact time that she felt something land on the back of her neck. A hand reached back to try to pull off whatever it was. The warmth and crumbly texture felt like a cookie, but whatever it was stuck on tight. It wasn't painful, but neither could Greta get it off. Turning, the other girl's shocked appearance came into view. As well as the haze of cookie cloud heading straight for her. With a yelp of surprise, Greta scrambled backwards, attempting to outrun the confectionery projectiles. She couldn't. One by one they adhered themselves to her.
It wasn't too terribly at first, but after a while, the shell of baked goodies stopped her movement. Like a poorly oiled suit of armor, she grew stuck in place, unable to protect herself, unable to run. The weight was unbearable, but the cookies served as a sort of scaffolding that even prevented her from succumbing to the burden and falling to the ground. No doubt, however, anyone who so wished could likely push her over and send her toppling.
The sound of an incantation behind her brought with it mixed feelings. Greta was helpless, unable to move, but she recognized the spell. It could cut and slash, and maybe that would be enough to cut through the layers of baked dough to free their captive. On the other hand, what if the magic didn't stop at the level of the cookies? What if it cut deeper? Fear quickened Greta's heart, its beat drumming at her temples as tears rimmed her eyes. She braced herself for the pain of a hot slash, and scoured the options available to her. She couldn't even move her jaw, so encased was she.
But... maybe she didn't have to. Her wand was still in hand, and she could still move her tongue. It wasn't impossible to speak through clenched teeth and a quick test run proved that yes, she could say this incantation with minimal movement. Perhaps she actually could get herself free...The only problem would be the wand movement. But... maybe... maybe if she could move her fingers just enough... if the other girl's spell worked even a little to free her hand... maybe she had a chance? She had to try... "Finite incantatum!"

The platform that the small group was standing on was slowly beginning to crumble away. It was clear that if something wasn’t done quickly, they would be taking a vacation into the dark pit below. But Flash was in no mood to wait around. He quickly assessed the situation and was able to devise a plan to avoid falling to his doom.
Flash had a natural skill with his wand that allowed him to cast the ascension spell with relative ease. The boy was propelled into the air with a bit of reckless power. Perhaps too much power… Flash would easily clear the pit in front of him and came crashing down hard on the other side. Unable to properly orient himself in the air, Flash landed hard on his stomach. But at least he hadn’t fallen into a pit. Now he was free to continue forward, or he could wait to see if any of his companions would be swallowed by the pit.

Clearly not a fan of mud, Nate successfully cast the Extinguishing Charm on himself to try and clean off some of the mud. It worked a bit but it would require a more thorough cleaning to get everything. Clearly Nate was ready to escape the prison of hedges and wasted no time returning to the path and turning right.
While the cold, mud and ever changing maze had not exactly been the most relaxing companions, Nate was getting closer to freedom with every step. Again Nate would find himself in a tight winding corridor. Every turn would be slightly discouraging as it revealed that there was more maze ahead of them. Turn after turn showed nothing but dark green or thick fog until...Until it didn’t.
Down a long straight path, Nate would see an exit. A beautiful open archway that led out of the maze. Freedom was in reach. The boy would continue down the path towards the exit. Perhaps distracted by the prospect, he would not have the speed to react. About half way down the corridor, a large chest would suddenly be pushed out of the hedge wall beside Nate. It was a large wooden chest that looked a bit out of place in the dark green hedges. It might have been better suited for a pirate ship but here it was. As Nate would instinctively step out of its path, the lid of the chest flew open and ropes erupted from within.
The rope was blisteringly fast. In an instant it had wrapped its hungry tendrils completely around Nate and pulled him violently inside the chest. Darkness...An unyielding abyssal darkness was all Nate could see from within the chest as the lid slammed shut. He had been completely devoured by the chest and could hear some kind of rustling outside but there would be no way for him to see what might be happening. Nate’s wand was still in his hand but his arms were bound against his body, making it very difficult to move in the cramped innards of the chest.

After Greta’s unfortunate run in with the cookies, it seemed that Lavinia was not about to leave her new companion to be devoured or smothered. While cookies had very limited offensive capabilities, it was likely an easier fight for two witches than Greta on her own. From within the cookie suit, Greta’s happy and blissful carelessness seemed to have been replaced by a feeling of helplessness. Under the weight of the cookies, Greta was in a strange but dire situation. Breathing would become quickly difficult and she would not even be able to just munch her way out.
Lavinia yelled a quick incantation of Relashio and successfully showed her spellcasting prowess as the spell successfully cast. It was a perfect spell for the situation and dozens of cookies erupted off of Greta and they were quickly followed by others that began plopping off the girl.. The sheer amount of cookies still left Greta mostly covered but the blasted cookies had given Greta some ability to move her limbs. Straining to move, Greta showed impressive determination and ripped her wand hand free just long enough to perform the wand movement for the General Counter Spell. While still somewhat difficult to cast spells, Greta was able to get the incantation off.
Mixed with Lavinia’s spell, even more of the cookies suddenly began plummeting off of Greta. The now normal cookies just lay uselessly in the grass. There was still the occasional cookie clinging to Greta but almost all of them had now been purged and Greta was freed from her cookie prison. Teamwork had prevailed and the girls would be able to continue forward but Greta might be a little less inclined to bite random desserts.

Being on the platform that was slowly crumbling away now made Opeila's heart beat faster. She swallowed as a piece of the ground she was standing on broke off and fell, down into the dark pit. "Oh no..." The Slytherin turned around and back again, unsure how to handle this. "Should we... should we jump?" Her stomach cramped at the mere thought.
It seemed like her friend had things more under control. Opeila watched Flash casting a spell into the pit and flying upwards, higher, higher- oh, that would be a hard reconnection with the ground. The Slytherin pulled a face when Flash landed again, almost feeling the pain with him. "Okay, um... I think that works..." Opeila did not want to, but what was her alternative? She could wait for the platform to disappear below her and fall into a dark pit. Amazing.
Taking a deep breath, Opeila stepped forwards and pointed her wand down at the pit. "Alarte Ascendare!" Then she pressed her eyes shut tightly. Why hadn't she cast a softening charm on the ground on the other side? Now she would crash down just like Flash. Nice, as if there weren't enough marks on her body already.

When Flash cast the spell, pointing at the ground that had fallen, he was alarmed to find that he was the one sent skyward. That wasn't what he had been expecting, sending out a yelp as he was rocketed forward uncermoniously into a smack on the other side. He was safe, but it wasn't exactly what he wanted. He had hoped the ground would rise back up! Maybe casting spells in this maze was a bad idea.
Looking back, he felt greif at the realization that this meant he left the two stranded. Not only that, but the ground was continuing to crumble further, with who knew what at the bottom. This was supposed to be a fun, friendly kind of game, right? ... Right?
His slowly diminishing trust in the groundskeeper aside, he scrambled up to standing and reached his arms out in the universal gesture of 'I'll catch you.' Though Opeila had drawn her wand, likely in an attempt to solve the problem on her own, the young girl Kit was momentarily frozen in place. He'd catch Opeila if she fell, or reach out his hand to make Kit's jump easier. Anything to make it so the lot of them weren't stuck here, or worse, fallen to some unknown doom.
"I've got you! He tried to say reassuringly, though in a bit of a panic.
