It was a warm, soothing morning for Hogwarts–the weekend, which meant the majority of students were out and about tousling with each other outdoors, sleeping in, studying, or maybe other activities. However, Lilac Lucero, a first year Hufflepuff, was doing something rather peculiar.

Lilac waved goodbye to a fellow student who'd directed him, with hand signals, where the owlery was. The taller boy grinned, then turned back to disappear behind a corridor. Lilac was left by his lonesome, looking on at the drifting body before he turned around slowly.
He began to hop around like a madman.

The charcoal haired boy skipped around like a gleeful little springbok as he pumped his fists through the air. The owlery was exactlywhat he'd needed!

Some time later, Lilac found himself grazing his hand against calloused stone bricks. The texture felt as if it were a firm sandpaper, tiny hills smushed against skin, and skin pressed up against the bumpy surface. The brick was cold, making Lilac's fingertips tingle.

The usually quiet boy found himself overflowing with happiness.

Owls. It was always owls.

Ever since Lilac was a little boy, he'd find himself being obsessed with creatures. He ended up catching himself hoarding a bunch of stuffed animals, and eventually had to part with them ( regretfully ) due to nagging parents.
Everything about animals always fascinated Lilac. The way they tried to puff themselves up when challenged, the way they moved so naturally with their environment, the way they survived so beautifully–all were unlike humans.
Humans had a lot to learn, in his opinion.

However, out of the vast range of animal species, Lilac had adopted owls as his favorite. The animal as a whole was so enthralling to the eleven year old. It was how they could fly silently with barely any effort, the way their eyes just pierced through your conscience, their sorrowful cries that echoed through a night sky.
Owls were absolutely gorgeous.

When he finally clenched his fists and held his breath, Lilac deemed that he was ready to enter what would be his paradise. A home away from the dorms away from home. An escape. A stress reliever.
A safe haven.

Climbing inside the tower, immediately Lilac was hit with chalky specks of dust flying around from preening owls. Hay bits were scattered everywhere in heavy piles, and owl waste of course wasn't a rare sight.
All the smells, uncomfortable items, and ear-piercing noises were sloshed together and chucked out the window.

Lilac didn't care at all.
He was finally with the owls.

A significant about of hours later, comforting lullaby notes hummed throughout the owlery. It danced along the air, taking little spins and twirls through the crevices of cool, stone brick.
All the little notes soon grew more and more audacious, as if the source was getting more confident–though no one was listening ( though that might've been the fuel to the flame ). In the middle of it all was a rather vertically challenged boy.

Lilac smiled softly as he'd coaxed a few owls to skitter their little feet to him. He stroked the smooth, oily wings of a white owl while gleefully scratching the itch on a horned owl's nape.  He laughed at how playful the horned one was, as the bird was pulling all sorts of tiny antics to keep Lilac entertained.

Sure, he was distracting them from their jobs... but everyone needed a break once in a while, right?

Sure.

Suddenly, as a wrong spot was grazed on the tawny bird's neck, it let out a loud cry of pain. Lilac's eyes widened as he jumped back, his breath quickened.

"What's wrong?" He practically screeched as the owl itself began to mimic the panic in the room. Suddenly, one owl took off–and like a chain reaction, the other owls grew stressed as well and began to flap around wildly through the owlery. They thrashed through the air, screaming as they didn't pay any mind to the young wizard now cowering on the dirty floor.

Her hair was flying crazily around her face, whipping her pale skin as she was making her way back to the castle. The wind was merciless, ready to take with him whatever he could. The young girl was holding tight onto her books and wands as she climbed, two by two, the stairs to the main entrance. Checking her timetable, she found out that she was free for the rest of the afternoon. She sighed in relief and walked slowly, trying to tame the dark mass sat upon her head. She was headed for the common room, her dorm precisely, as she wanted to drop off her things.

Once arriving to her dorm room, she softly opened the door, not wanting to wake anyone sleeping. The room smelled like cookies, as usually, and the comfort brought tears to her eyes. She was exhausted and her week had been so stressful that she had transformed into a ball of emotion, ready to explode at any moment. She wiped some tears away and got changed, whilst thinking. Was Hogwarts worth it? Was she worth it? She plopped down on her bed, letting out a painful sigh. Home. She missed home. But this place was also her home, no?

She looked over at the wall before her bed, decorated by pictures and drawings. Her mother was smiling at her, waving with a gloved hand. It made Peach think. She wondered when was the last time they had talked. Had she sent news to this one? Had they been in contact since the start of the school year? The young girl's memory was failing her, and it was in a terror that she realised that no, she had not sent news to her dearest mother. She was exhausted and her week had been so stressful that she had transformed into a ball of emotion, ready to explode at any moment. She was angry at herself for being so selfish and careless.

It was in a hurry that she left the common room, her heavy foot steps echoing in the corridors. It seemed as if a dark cloud was hovering over her head, as comics depicted it in their drawings. Her common room was on the first floor, the owlery at the west tower, on the highest it could be. It took her about ten to fifteen minutes to get there. She stopped at the stairs, forcing herself to calm down. Animals hated strong and negative emotions. However hard she tried, her anger would not tone down. Angrier at herself for being so useless, she ran up the stairs to the owlery.

When she reached the top, her letter in hand, she looked around to see a first year playing with owls. Her nostrils were filled with the smells of dust and defecations and she took a step forwards, carelessly. It was to her surprise that her foot slipped forward, causing in her body to lean backwards. She let out a small cry for help as she felt herself flopping down ungracefully to the ground. Her common room was on the first floor, the owlery at the west tower, on the highest it could be.

She looked up to the ceiling, grunting in pain. What a day.

A flash of colored stripes followed by the poof of dusty hay triggered Lilac to snap his head to focus on the onlooker. His fingers suddenly slicked, and sweat dribbled down his face nervously as he expected the loud boom to be a professor stomping their boot on the floor. Lilac felt his pupils dilate as he shut his eyes tightly, preparing for someone to yell at him.
However, nothing happened.
Peculiar.

Lilac cracked his eyes ajar, a figure on the floor appearing in a haze. His pale orbs shot open as he was now focused on the girl on the floor. The child jolted up, looking around hysterically as if there were someone to offer a helping hand. No one except himself.

The boy then hoisted himself off of the floor and rushed over to the seemingly limp body on the floor. He held a small, tawny owl cradled in his petite arms as he bounded over to the newly discovered fallen student.

Lilac kneeled next to her and peered over, feminine features meeting feminine features. Lilac's raven haired lashes batted up and down as he stared widely at the girl. Her hair splayed out like a small halo around her head, and Lilac found himself admiring that a bit.
Maybe he should grow his hair out.

Lilac shook his head and immediately fixed his focus back onto the reality of the situation. Okay, Lilac, think.
A girl, not injured ( just lying down ), letter clutched in hand, exhausted expression.
She looked... saddened–crestfallen, depressed, melancholy, tired...

"A-Are you okay..?" Lilac finally parted his pink lips to let out a non-pubescent voice. He then stopped looming over the girl and sat back up as he cautiously waited. A second flashed by. Soon two. Then a minute.
...minute and a half.

He peeked over again down at her, tilting his head slightly.
"Do you need help?"

The pain had only let itself known a minute or so after the accident. She didn't move, scared to cause herself more pain. Her back was sore and her head had hit the floor violently, causing her to be slightly dizzy. A figure crept over her. Feminine features and a pretty flower were observing her. This one sat down and queried if she was okay. The Hufflepuff opened her mouth, but nothing else than a soft cry came out of it. She could not move her head yet, for it was too sore. She closed her eyes and concentrated on her breathing, to calm herself down. Tears ran up to her eyes, needing to get out of their flesh prison. Today had been so exhausting. She sighed and after a couple of minutes she sat down.

Her hair was a mess, it's mass circling her head. Her fringe wasn't as straight as it always was and her face seemed naked without it's habitual smile. She looked over at the other student who had helped her. She had never seen them before, so she smiled faintly. Looking around, she found the Owlery to be nearly empty of all its animals. Her mood dropped lower when the realised she was the cause of it.

" Thank you for the help...I'm so clumsy, I was in a rush and...yeah... ". She tried to clean herself up lightly. Her robes were covered with dust and feathers and it felt uncomfortable. " My name is Peach...and you? "
