Chess Combat (Match 1)
Finally it seemed like they were slowlygetting advantages. With one of their opponents down the odds were in their favor. Even though her own spell was successfulbut after all useless, Santonio was performing on a different level. Her powerful spell, the wind jinx Ileen had used in her past duel a lot as well, split up and hit not only one but two of the foren students. A soft smile formed on her lips.

Chess Combat (Match 1)

Poor lad hadn't had a hope this round; hit left, right and center Jan wasn't looking so great. What a thrill to know her team was pushing another of their opponents off. Perhaps relishing in the idea of victory being so close, Illowy lost her focus for just a moment, unable to dodge the flames that latched themselves to the shoulder of her t-shirt. Right about now she was missing the pitiful buffer her school robes would have offered at least a little bit.
The girl bit her tongue, refusing to give any audible sign of being hurt, but anyone who'd ever been on fire before knew it was impossible to hide that completely. This was only the first time she'd been hit, she could swallow it and press on. After all, there were only a handful of rounds left, and she wouldn't give the girl who hit her the satisfaction of thinking she'd gotten an upper hand.
Her gaze flicked a moment to Bridget at her side, trying to be encouraging if not distracting from the fact that she was aflame. All Illowy offered was a small, pained smirk and a nod before looking back at the remaining opponents before her, weighing her odds for her next move.
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Stupid Alexander, he had gotten distracted. Rather than focusing on the enemy and how to take them down he had instead been focusing on his personal plight. Too much looking and not enough acting, which had led to him effectively doing nothing whilst spells flew all around him.
Alexander scowled, his inattention had cost the team but he couldn't let this happen again. As such Alexander clenched his hands, breathed in and out. Then he once more jumped back into action.

Everything was going downhill. Though it was hard to judge such things in a duel, the international team had seemed to settle into a steady rhythm after a rough start, gaining the lead for a short time. Now, though, not only were they down a duellist, but the Vipers seemed to be stealing away the upper hand, slowly but surely. Team morale was dropping too, as was Karilyna's own, discouragement - an uncommon emotion for her during a duel - setting a frown on her face.
It lifted her mood significantly, then, when she finally scored her first hit - and a rather impressive one, too, if she did say so herself. Funny, the adversity it took for her to reach this success, including what must've been eight or so failures, most of them misses, and taking a couple blows herself despite her best efforts to dodge. A powerful inferno burst from her wand, and this time, it didn't spiral off and strike a spot on the ground. No, it hit her target squarely, flames spreading quickly across her shirt. And that was the Karilyna one typically saw on the duelling stage, not the flustered, upset, and seemingly inexperienced child that'd stood in her place for the first stretch of the duel.
Her frown slowly twisted into a smirk of sorts; her typical confidence was back - even if to a smaller degree than usual - and a success at long last had made her wildly happy, but the international team was clearly struggling. The duel wouldn't last for much longer, so hopefully they could pull themselves together and make one last push.

The Vipers were closing in for the kill. They'd already gotten a taste for triumph, clawing their way through the ranks of Hogwarts' own duellists for the chance to face a foreign team, now having taken out one of the Visitors. Santario and Illowy trained their wands on Jan, the most wounded of their opponents. He would be bombarded by twin Incendio Duos, stinging his skin, causing consciousness to waver with pain. It seemed, for a moment, he would fall as his teammate had.
Pericles drew a sharp breath on the sideline in preparation to pause things. But before the wizard could collapse, he managed to breathe a spell of his own: a Reparifors so bright and brilliant that it brought him back from that brink. His ally Milosh joined in, utilizing his proficiency with healing magics to his benefit. Jan was still in the game, albeit still on fire, with two separate flames crackling on his clothes. In an instant however, Milosh's support would be cut off, as Ileen cast an especially potent Expelliarmus. It ripped his wand from his hand with such force that it left a trace of friction heat in its wake. Alexander helped his teammate in turn, soothing Illowy with a quick-thinking Extinguo, though this relief was cut short when she was struck with a Flipendo from Karilyna. Bridget moved in the midst of chaos, sliding to the B1 square, yet Alisa still seemed paralyzed as the duel raged on around her.

While she wouldn't have been opposed to continuing to play healer--the toll taken on them during their rough stretch lingered, leaving them shy of their original full strength--but an opportunity had caught her eye. It was perfect, and the grass in the square next to her almost seeming to glow a little brighter. So while spells tore through the air all over the board, she took a quick, silent step to her right. From behind Ileen, she set her sights on the enemy Queen.
They'd certainly set their opponents back on their heels. Biting back with venom indeed. No doubt keen on not losing another member, a wise choice, two of their casts were to heal the deteriorating Rook. For their efforts, he was promptly hit with two Incendio Duos, the flames sparking on his clothes. She couldn't say she felt particularly bad for the Rook Santario and Illowy were pounding at; after all, he'd been doing the same thing to her for quite a while and it was rather nice to see that smug sort of expression he'd had disappear. That wasn't to say the international team was so struggling they couldn't go on the offensive; no, Karilyna was able to get off another powerful cast, seeming to have finally found her rhythm. Bridget wasn't thrilled to see it strike Illowy again, but at least Alexander had put out the flames.
Amidst all of that, she might actually credit the most crucial cast to one carrying little flash or damage. Ileen had opted for the Disarming Charm, an intelligent choice and well-cast. It brought Bridget a smile to see her perform the spell so well, indeed sending the Queen's wand spiraling out of his hand to land, unseen, somewhere in the grass a way's away. Her underclassman had certainly perfected the spell since their meeting last fall. "That was brilliant," she whispered to the girl in front of her, because, in multiple regards, it was. Now they would see how the other team reacted to such a loss, the temporary rendering of their Queen defenseless, and keep up their pressure all the while.

INTERACTIONS: Guest Team
In hindsight, maybe just taking the loss would have been better. He felt a small burst of energy return to him courtesy of the healing spells that were being desperately cast to ensure that he didn't become the second piece to be taken off the board. It was clear who their second target was but Jan wasn't about to go down that easily. If anything, fate took this as a challenge and before he knew. he had been the victim of more than one incendiary spell as the flames licked away at his garb as he winced attempting to pat them out to no avail. He wasn't in the greatest of shape and this would only add to his worries.
Jan Aalberg was not about to be overcome by a bunch of flames as he briefly pondered the idea of chucking his lit robes, what a sight that would have been as he opted not to do such things. If anything, he took it as a honor and challenge that they were redirecting their aggresion towards them though this was probably due to the fact that he hadn't been all too kind either with those Knockback Jinxes he had been sending their way so they were just returning the experience. However, he had no wish to enjoy this because it certainly wasn't enjoyable and he was doing his utmost to prevent his utter and total demise at at the hands of some Hogwarts students, no doubt.

Chess Combat (Match 1)

Illowy and San were on point today as duel flames roared across the field, setting their opponent on fire. He had healed himself, but eventually, that wouldn’t matter. His falling didn’t matter either; if he was whittled down enough, they could stay in this stalemate. A glance behind her as she heard Alex cast extinguo confirmed that Illowy had been relieved of her own flames, and that made her extremely happy, but not as happy as the powerful disarming charm sent out by Ileen. “Phenomenal Ileen!”
Bridget had moved, and Santario saw where the lineup went, and she grinned at her partner and fellow captain. She turned her eyes forward and back onto Jan. There was no use in hiding who her target was, not this late in the game, and they already had proven to be competent strategists even if the Sly team had done more damage to themselves than the opposing team had. Three more rounds and they were still pretty neck and neck; there was no denying it. Regardless of which team lost this match, they should feel proud, even though Santario was still the deadest on destroying them.

Ileen’s brown eyes were still fixed on the queen of the other team, the boy she had attacked several times already. He was busy healing his team mates - something that the young Slytherin admired. But it was unfortunate for this duel even though it was a great move in general. He was very skillful and elegant with his wand and made it increasingly difficult for her team to gain the upper hand.
After quickly looking around to get a grip of the overall situation, Ileen decided to disarm the boy. It seemed like something that would make sense and it was a strategy that had won their first duel. So, she carefully aimed and spoke the words while snipping her wand. And again she felt power flashing through her body, rushing to the tip of her wand and releasing the most powerful Expelliarmus she had ever casted.
The wand was ripped out of his hand and Ileen’s lips formed a proud smile. It gave her satisfaction that this one powerful spell had found its target
