Juniper was practically jumping in her seat. Excitement charged her body like electricity until she WAS jumping around! She was around a bunch of other noobs like her, but none of her friends were here for they were muggles. Muggles. Such a strange term. It sounded like a type of slime or something. "Muggle. Muggle muggle muggle." She muttered under her breath, trying the new term on her tongue. It felt weird to say, and apparently, her dad was one too. But the greatest shock of all? Learning her mum was a witch. Like, why hadn't she just said so? This would be less of a shock if she knew. That was uneccessary, keeping secrets like that. If she wasn't Juniper's mom, she might have gotten trash thrown at her.
She bounced on her toes, trying to see over the tall students. Why is everyone so dang tall! She thought, frustrated. It might of been her height that was the problem, 4"6 wasn't exactly an average height. Not really. But still, she was stuck behind someone taller than her, and she couldn't see! Curse people being at average heights.
She leaned far over to the right, deciding the best way to see was to lean around. She could always look under legs.. but these stupid cloaks kind of ruined that. An old looking man (who's that old guy up there?) said some words that June didn't even listen to. Oh, the headmaster! How old is he? and has he heard of that skin care lotion? He showed them a hat, an ugly hat, and she finally decided that yup, this was a school full of crazy people. Until the hat spoke. Her eyes widened, and she gasped. "Oh ma gawsh! It spoke! Did you see that?" She was suddenly very interested.
The hat spoke, then it began to sing. She covered her ears, for his voice was not pleasant. Thinking better of it, she lowered her hands to listen to the "houses." When he reached Gryffindor, she raised an eyebrow. That sounded like her! She was sure she would get that house. "Oooh." She whispered. Ravenclaw seemed okay, Hufflepuff, too. She didn't like the sound of "using any means to acheive their ends". Sounded like bullies. She shook her head, no, she wouldn't want that house.
The hat began calling names, and she hopped up and down. "This is so cool! Wow! wow!!!" People got sorted into houses, and the line before her got shorter and shorter. She was impatient. Finally, she heard her name.
"Kelly, Juniper."
She smiled. "That's me!!" She skipped up, and sat on the stool. She looked up at the hat that was placed on her head, covering half her eyes. She grinned, thinking this was extremely cool.
"Ah, miss Kelly."
"Ah... Mister... hat. Hello."
"Funny girl, I see. You've got courage in you, yes. "
"Yup!"
"But I see an urge in you to learn... to find things others don't dare to look for. "
"That's true, there's so much out there!" She piped up.
"Yes, you are a smart girl."
She thought. "I guess so."
She swung her legs patiently.
Only one choice, than... RAVENCLAW!"
Juniper hopped of the stool, not very dissapointed. "cool beans!" The hat was never wrong she was told, so obviously she was meant to be here. Of course, being with the courageous people seemed like a whole ton of fun, but... these Ravenclaws seemed chill. She headed to the table of Eagles, smiling.

Eyes wide, Cyrus entered the great hall. This was it, the moment he had been waiting for.
Hogwarts. He was finally there,11 years old, and suddenly feeling so tiny and alone in the massive room. Hopefully, that feeling wouldn't last for long.
From within the crowd of first years, Cyrus could see the students around him. Nearly a head
taller than most of his companions the boy easily took in the details surrounding him. High ceilings lit by levitating candles held a view of the night sky, stars twinkling far above, almost hypnotic in a way. Too hypnotic, perhaps, as Cyrus clumsily managed to stumble into the student in front of him.
Mumbling a quick apology, Cyrus gave a small smile and lightly flushed with embarrassment.
If mum were here, she for sure would have been laughing at his clumsiness. Luckily, students were being sorted and the crowd around him thinned. Before long the names being called reached mid-alphabet. "Keogh, Cyrus"
Steeling himself, Cyrus took a deep breath and made his way to the front of the Great Hall.
How embarrassing would it be if he tripped now, of all times? Hilarious, yes, but embarrassing nonetheless. Once the hat was on his head, everything would be set. Mum had asked him to wait till the first week was out before causing too much chaos; Cyrus intended to stay out of trouble for the first few days, at least. Imagine causing a ruckus now, in front of the whole school and everything. That would have to wait for another day, a more experienced and older Cyrus, equipped with experience and a plan.
"Ahh, I see. A Keogh, just as pigheaded as the rest. Yes, boy, quite stubborn
indeed. But, you have your mother's sense of humor and heart. You'd do well in Hufflepuff, like your mother, but there's something more here...Very much like your father as well. Fun-loving and ambitious, with a drive to protect and provide... yes, I see now. I know exactly where you belong.""GRYFFINDOR"
And with that, the sorting had finished. A brief glance into that oversized noggin of his and
Cyrus was set for the next seven years of his life. With the hat removed, the tall boy began making his way towards the Gryffindor table. Cyrus settled down in a spot amongst the other first years with a smile. Yeah, you could say he was excited for the years ahead.

The boy looked around, a little terrified. Now sure, he was a little cocky and maybe a little arrogant in the Boat as they were arriving Hogwarts pretty recently, but, why would he be certain that he would be in Hufflepuff. Maybe he had another house in mind. Maybe he had a Cunning motivation. He could be a Slytherin. Of course, he was a little bit of everything, so it was up to the Sorting Hat.
It was a little ugly, maybe a little raggedy, as it was around for well over a thousand years. Cody looked at the person in front of him being sorted, a look of disbelief left his eyes. The boy in front of him was sorted into Gryffindor by a MAGIC, TALKING, HAT.
The hat sang its song, before the sorting, and to be honest, Cody wasn't paying all too much attention. He had other things on his mind. His favorite band, a British band, Queen. His mind was playing Radio Ga Ga.
It was a little terrifying, his heart thudded. Was he really going to be sorted into a House, and be a member of Hogwarts, forever? Did he have to give up something fantastic, just to go back to a school where he was bullied for being him. It seems that anyone is being bullied for being anyone, for doing anything. A magic school was better. He made up his mind, and walked up, took a seat, and allowed the hat to be placed upon his head."I'd sit alone and watch your light, my only friend through teenage nights. And everything I had to know, I heard it on my radio.
You gave them all those old time stars, through war of world invaded by mars. You made them laugh, you made them cry. You made us feel like we could fly.
RADIO
So, don't become some background noise, a backdrop for the girls and boys who just didn't know or just don't care and complain when you're not there.
You had your time, you had the power, you've yet to have your finest hour. Radio. Radio."
Hmm... You have great courage, but it kicks in at times. You have immense knowledge, but you don't want to be labeled as a nerd, as it seems. You have a side of mischief in you, but yet, to counter that, you have a sweeter side. I won't say that it's kindness, but it'll curb the evil. So, my final result for you will be.... HUFFLEPUFF!
A great cheer came from the Hufflepuff Table, Cody smiled. He was worrying, that he wouldn't be placed in Hufflepuff? That was ridiculous. He walked over to the Hufflepuff Table and took a seat. He waited for the next Hufflepuff to be chosen to give out a great cheer.

Avery's nerves were near shot as he sat 9n the chair awaiting the Sorting Ceremony. He had no idea where it would sort him too and he wasn't sure he had a preference.
Gryffindor would be exciting as it was the same house as many infamous wizards he had grown up reading and hearing about, most going on to do amazing things, but his interest was most keenly focused on Slytherin. He didn't know if he had the makings for the Slytherin house, the way he had presented himself all these years would say not, but he was hoping.
This was the house of the infamous Severus Snape, a man, he was lead to believe, that was very misunderstood and even judged before anyone really knew him. Hearing about all the things be bad done and accomplished, he felt the most excitement for this house, but who knew what the hat would see once it was placed upon ones head.
Avery was very still as the hat was placed upon his head. He heard the voice of the hat in his head as it read him, his heart, his mind, his intentions. Avery kept his eyes closed and allowed the hat to do its work as he silenced answered the questions being asked in his head.
The look of shock on Averys face was probably palpable as the sorting hat was removed from his head. He couldn't help but smile a wide goofy smile as he stood from the chair and made his way to his table in the midst of monstrous applaus.
Had he heard correctly? It had said Slytherin right? Most people thought Slytherins were inherently evil, unkind, mean the works. He had heard every story there was, but Avery wqs excited. Maybe, just maybe, he could be the wizard to prove that great goodness could come from this house. His smile widened with the thought as he took his seat with his new housemates.

Jonathan gazed around in amazement as he and his fellow first years entered the Great Hall. He had never been in a room so vast before and it was awe inspiring. He heard several of his classmates looking up and gasping. He looked up as well and gasped with them. He had never seen something as amazing as the ceiling of the Great Hall. He watched as the candles bobbed around the room under a sky full of stars. How did they make the ceiling look like that?
Jonathan came to a halt with his fellow first years standing before all the teachers at the head table. He looked on worried as the first student was called up. A hat? Was this all there was. There was silence before the student's house was called and their was a cheer from that house's table. Jonathan let out a sigh of relief. The big test he was worrying about was just a hat! He was thankful they went by last name.
Jonathan was quickly called up and sat down on the stool eagerly as the hat sat on his head. He didn't know what he had expected but a voice to fill his head was not that "Ah let's what we have here. There are many places a young mind like you can go. You feel great loyalty towards friends are a hard worker. But you can also headstrong and eager to rush into adventures. But ultimately you have an intense desire to learn and improve yourself. You would do best around those who would encourage this in you. It better be..." And then the hat shouted out loud, "RAVENCLAW!" Jonathan eagerly hurried off to his new house. This had been the house that if he had the chose would have chosen.

Elora sighed heavily as she made her way toward the head table, in front of which was a stool. On the stool sat an old, brown hat that appeared to have a mouth formed from a rip. She frowned slightly; somehow she’d expected the Sorting Hat to be more impressive. Wondering what other preconceived notions would be blown out of the water that evening, she fixed her eyes forward to listen to what was being said just then.
Blah blah blah blah...we get the point. Just call the names! she thought to herself, shifting from one foot to the other and back again. A couple minutes later, her wish was granted. Instantly alert, Elora listened carefully for her name to be called. After what seemed an eternity, it echoed through the Great Hall. Elora sauntered up to the stool and sat down, wincing a bit at the unpleasant smell of the hat as it was placed on her head.
Don’t they ever wash this thing? Elora wondered, when the hat began speaking in her ear. She heard a giggle escape her lips—talking hats seemed to be quite unusual, even for the Wizarding world. Nevertheless, she managed to sit still and wait to hear which house would be home for the next seven years.

Lizzy walked into the Great Hall with a look of wonder on her face. Growing up in a completely non-magical family this was surreal to her, every bit of it. The candles were floating above her and the ceiling reflected the night sky outside. She walked with the other students up to the table at the front of the room.
The headmaster called out the names of each of the students around Lizzy, one by one. She watched as the hat was placed on their heads, and it yelled out their house. Lizzy was already deep in thought as to what her house would be.
"Solace, Lizzy!" the headmaster called out. Lizzy took a deep breath and made her way to the front. The hat was placed on her head, and a voice started talking inside her mind. "Hmm..." the hat murmured softly. "Interesting, very interesting. You have a nearly equal amount of both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw traits." Gryffindor, Lizzy recalled, was the house of the brave and daring, whereas Ravenclaw was the house of the intellectual and creative. She pondered the Sorting Hat's statement and thought she was more of a Ravenclaw, but she supposed Gryffindor fit well too.
"GRYFFINDOR!" the hat yelled unexpectedly. Lizzy jumped a bit on the stool, startled by the sudden noise. She smiled and made her way to the Gryffindor table, where the students were cheering. This wouldn't be so bad, in fact Lizzy was rather excited to see how this year would play out.

‘It’s real…’ went the constant refrain playing inside Jaime’s head as he gazed around incredulously at his surroundings. Hearing about the school from a recruitment delegate had been one thing, but experiencing it in person was something else entirely. The entrance hall of Hogwarts was massive, bathed in the flickering light of countless flaming torches, and its ceiling was so high Jaime couldn’t even see it. Perhaps its most impressive feature, however, was a magnificent marble stairway that looked as if it would lead all the way up to heaven if one had the will to climb high enough.
From somewhere that sounded very far away, like the end of a long tunnel, Jaime was vaguely aware that an adult was addressing him and his fellow herd of first years. Something about huffing and puffing while slithering into a griffin door? And a raven? Somehow a raven was involved in this process as well? None of it made the slightest bit of sense to Jaime, but then again he was hardly paying attention. All of this was overshadowed by the fact that magic was real… Hogwarts was real… and he was now here.
It wasn’t until he was bumped in the back by a nervous looking boy with red hair that he realized they were being organized into a single file line and herded forward once again. Suddenly panic began to bubble up in his chest. Why hadn’t he paid attention when the instructor had been speaking? What if he couldn’t slither through the griffin door? Would he be sent home? And the raven… he had absolutely no idea what to do when the raven appeared…
Jaime craned his neck to ask the ginger-haired boy behind him, but upon seeing that the boy looked more likely to soil his pants than coherently answer any sort of question he might ask, Jaime sighed and looked away. ‘Don’t look back,’ he thought to himself. ‘You’re not going that way.’
Onward he marched, though his legs were beginning to feel more and more as though they were made of jelly, through a pair of wide double doors and into a long, rectangular room — and then he swallowed hard. There were four long tables, each of which seated what looked like hundreds of older students. Jaime could feel the heat of their stares and blinked nervously as the line came to a halt in the middle of the room. At the front of the line stood a four-legged stool upon which sat a musty, decrepit-looking pointed hat. The wide-eyed raven-haired girl at the front of the line arched her back, leaning away from it fearfully as if she thought it might leap forward and throttle her at any moment.
The hat did not throttle her, but did, in Jaime’s eyes, something equally astonishing. One of the deep, sagging wrinkles opened like a mouth and that hat began to sing. Screwing up his face in concentration, Jaime listened hard this time, taking in every word the … hat … said. And by the time it finished, he felt a wave of relief spread through him. All he would have to do was wear the disgusting hat for a few moments, that wasn’t so bad…right? Exhaling smoothly, he ruffled his hair mindlessly and waited for his turn.
“Vardy, Jaime!” A voice called out what felt like an eternity later. And then, after taking a steadying deep breath, he stepped forward to sit down on the stool and placed the hat atop his head.
“GRYFFINDOR!” The hat cried to a roar of tumultuous applause from one of the tables to his left. With a coy grin, Jaime yanked off the hat, placed it back down on the stool and then scampered over to join the Gryffindor table.

Zylpha had experienced a mix of emotions all day, if not all week. It was somehow hard for her to leave her 'old life' behind. 'Old life' actually meant: Holly and Absalom. Yet, she was somehow excited for all the new adventures she would be going on at Hogwarts, being surrounded by magic all day. She always longed for the day where she could control her magic, being able to use it. She was a witch first, and probably a friend second.Time: Evening
Where: The Great Hall
What: The Sorting Ceremony
WC: 565
However, that was not all she had to be worried about... The sorting ceremony brought on a new kind of pressure of its own. Her parents were born to be in Slytherin, and back in the day they actually were. There was a certain expectation that Zylpha herself would end up there as well. Mae, Zylpha's mother, kept on talking about how the green robes would perfectly match Zylpha's red hair the weeks before her departure. Lazarus, her father, kept talking about the best places to hang out in the Slytherin Dormitory. However, nothing was certain about where Zylpha would end up, and yet, she somehow did not want to disappoint her parents, despite being fully aware that the result would be out of her hands...
Zylpha felt her palms sweating, and her knees wobbling while she waited until her name was called. They already reached the letter 'R', so Zylpha knew it wouldn't be long now. There was a girl before her who had been sorted in Hufflepuff, and judging from the way she looked, Zylpha thought indeed that Hufflepuff suited the girl. Furthermore, there had been a boy who was sorted into Gryffindor, she couldn't tell by the looks for sure, but she thought he would end up in Slytherin somehow. Zylpha made it a game for herself while she waited, and distracted herself, to see where someone would end up. She was startled when she heard her name: "Scarborough, Zylpha!"
Somehow she became aware of the silence. It had been quiet every time someone had walked up to the sorting hat, however, this time the silence truly hit her. It made her more and more nervous. She walked up to the sorting hat, while looking at her feet. She could not bare the sight of hundred of eyes fixed on her in the Great Hall. She took a seat, and was startled again when the Sorting Hat was placed on her head.
She could hear the hat murmuring, thinking about her fate. She tried to empty her thoughts, she wanted an unbiased answer of the Sorting Hat about where she belonged. After a short while, which had seemed to last for hours, Zylpha was spooked by the rumbling of the Sorting Hat as he proclaimed: "Ravenclaw!" Zylpha opened her eyes, finally aware of how tightly she had closed them the whole time, and looked at the cheering Ravenclaw-table. "Oh, dear gods..." Zylpha heard herself whisper, not entirely sure she was scared or happy.
She got up from the chair and walked over to the Ravenclaw table, to be greeted by her now friendly co-Ravenclawers. She was both shocked and happy. Shocked, because she had no idea how to tell this to her parents. Their first child at Hogwarts, not a Slytherin-alumna, like them. However, she was happy, because she somehow felt like she in fact did belong at Ravenclaw.

#830c4f Lin Evanvleck ✯ First Year
1st September 2021
Lin and Sophie are among the first years. They hold hands tightly and are not afraid to admit that they are very stressed and excited. They have spent 7 hours sitting on a train and they are happy to do anything else except talk and read. The twins have read - devoured - the Hogwarts History and Lin would like to go to either Slytherin or Ravenclaw. Sophie would rather go to Ravenclaw. Are they destined to go to the house of their choice?
Lin sees the students being distributed one after the other. Some look delighted, others disappointed and those who remain are mixed. The older students look happy and eager. Empty dishes are laid out on the 5 tables. How will they get filled?
- Evanvleck, Lin!
The brunette is startled and takes a timid step towards the stool. She sits down and the director puts the talking hat on her head. Lin hears a little voice in her head. "Curious, clever, creative... But also ambitious and loyal. I know your house and you'll find out right away!"
- RAVENCLAW!
Ravenclaw! She was going to Ravenclaw! Lin got to his feet and handed the hat to the director. She went to sit at the long Serdaigle table and saw her sister sitting on the stool. Lin crosses her fingers under the table. She must be in Ravenclaw. Sophie has all the makings of a Ravenclaw. When Sophie stands up smiling, Lin claps along with the other Ravenclaws. They will be together. In the blue house.
