Chess Combat (Match 1)

INTERACTIONS: Guest Team
Jan ran a hand through his hair as the match progressed and the spell shot out of his wand but unforunately for the boy, accuracy was something that was not happening for him this game uttering a low curse as it missed. It was to be expected but not preferable as he sighed. Right, they were going to have to take a different approach to this as he cleared his throat his eyes narrowing. Right, they were getting smarter and shifting positons so he would just have to adjust. They were already a man down so it was only right they get a taste of their own medicine glancing around for potential targets. Jan did not want to be back to square one as he exhaled taking in his surroundings. "Right, let's try this one more time, shall we?

Chess Combat (Match 1)

Illowy's eyes shifted to Bridget at her side as the girl offered her first attempt at a morale boost in quite a while. A small smile tugged at the edge of her lip seeing her friend start to get back to her usual self, recovered more from the rather rough goings of the last couple rounds. Same with San as the younger witch seemed to have a new fire in her. Truly, the tables were turning into their favor, however now wasn't the time to get cocky. There was still more then enough rounds to for their luck to turn again and Illowy wasn't about to allow her pride to get ahead of her.
Illowy's pale eyes scanned over the opposing team; truly they were a sight. It was just a matter of deciding what order to chip away at them between now and the final round. They needed to win this. She needed this win.
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Why, things were looking rather… unfortunate. Just minutes ago, the international team had been doing fairly well (as well as things could go in the chaos of a five on five duel, anyway), even arguably gained the upper hand. They were scoring more hits, for one, and although their strategy had begun in a rather disorganized manner, they'd sorted themselves out, falling into an easy rhythm as the duel progressed. Now, though, suddenly one player short, the Vipers were gaining ground - and that couldn't be allowed. Even if they were doomed to a loss, Karilyna wasn't about to let herself sit around and let it happen.
She shook herself into action, gripping her wand even tighter as her eyes narrowed, last hint of a smile wiped from her face. This was meant to be a game, a friendly competition, but in the heat of the moment, she couldn't help but let herself be drawn in - and, honestly, after being set on fire, who could blame her?

Chess Combat (Match 1)
Alexande breathed in and out rapidly. That last shot had been far too close, perhaps only a few centimeters removed. Even with all his focus on dodging that strike had almost hit him, that had been far too close. Alexander took a moment to breathe in and out, trying to regain his balance and confidence.
He might or might not regain his confidence/get out of the daze in time, but he had to try. So Alexander tried to jump back into the action.

The tide was turning. With the international team a member down and the Slytherins in a tight formation around their Queen, they were steadily gaining an advantage. They were now again on offense, spells flying towards the visiting students, with only Bridget taking a moment to give Santario another boost.
Santario's Wind Jinx in particular was an impressive sight: Immensely powerful, it split in two and struck Milosh along with Jan. Illowy's spell, too, hit home, pushing Jan back a step, who was now starting to look rather worse for wear. Ileen's cast, while successful, proved futile: Jan had not made a move to dodge, but the strategy was a sound one.
On the other side, the guests' strategy seemed to be falling apart. Alisa stood motionless, Jan's spell missed its target - understandable, considering the onslaught of spells that he had to deal with. Milosh was attempting to heal himself, but with the distraction, ended up taking more damage than he was able to repair. Karilyna alone was successful: Her jet of flames struck Illowy squarely, leaving the fabric on her shoulder on fire.

Where she was, she couldn't target any of the opposition. The same had been true of her previous square, of course, and she was currently just happy for the break from the persistent fire of the rounds previous. And besides, this wasn't a useless place to be. Santario was within her range, having stepped to where she could target the remaining Rook. Her teammate was looking considerably better than she had, courtesy of Illowy's healing, but she was sure a few Healing Spells hadn't erased all the damage she'd taken. There was no way she'd be letting their numbers advantage slip away if she could help it.
She incanted "Reparifors," really one of the only spells she'd cast all match, and the light glowing around Santario indicated she was now two casts separated from her failure. At the same time, the Rook shot out another Flipendo, Santario swiftly avoiding it before casting her Wind Jinx. There were all sorts of beauty, and watching this, Bridget would argue a kind could be found on the duelling stage, too. Because the cast was beautiful, forceful wind splitting off into twin bursts that struck the Rook and the Queen. "Nice one, Santario!" There was notable excitement in her voice, different from her typical neutrality in a game or even the spoken words of encouragement. This wasn't the first time she'd seen Santario produce powerful magic in a duel, but this might have been the most impressive instance so far and it was always thrilling to watch, the display of what was possible with magic. Perhaps it was especially punctuating amidst her partner's uncharacteristic stretch of misfires.
Such a high was near-guaranteed to be accompanied by a low. It was nothing horrible, at least, and Illowy had done a marvelous job of knocking the Rook back a space, opening their Queen up to attack. The only issue was that Illowy was on fire, flames from Karilyna's cast eating greedily at her clothes. Soon enough that would be especially painful. She grimaced, once again not fond of her inability to aid a teammate right next to her. This was the first time Illowy had been hit, which was one reassurance, not that it made watching her friend burn any easier. The use of fire was not something she would miss of chess combat. For a moment she wanted to make sure Illowy was okay, but Illlowy was tough; she'd be fine. "Good shot," was her comment, instead, because it was and because she imagined refocusing on the action would be more helpful this late in the game.

Well dang the game was close now as they neared the end. A little too close for Milo's liking. But alas what could he do? Jan got hit pretty hard with two spells. They couldn't risk loosing another member or it was all over for them. Think Damnit, you are the team captain, if this fails it is all your fault. He'd shake his head in frustration. Alright, if they couldn't cast spells to save their life then defense mode it was. But then again.. The boy let out a frustrated sigh. Who knew one could get so heated at a game? I mean it's all fun n' games until someone gets hurt and they had hurt Rodion.Playing as iNPC Milosh Rehnquist

He gritted his teeth as his spell just managed to by some stroke of luck leave the Slytherin practically untouched. Jan didn't know what it was about today but it seemed like his accuracy had just been off and it was really starting to cost him. Speaking of costs, his head tilited just in time as a grand total of no less than three spells slammed into him as he staggered backwards letting out a grunt of pain clutching his side as pain flared up. "Okay, now that packed a punch." He muttered to himself wincing and panting. Apparently, they had grown sick and tired of his relentless onslaught despite most of them being off-target and if his predicitions were correct, he reckoned he would be the second man down. He most certainly was not planning on ending up like his fellow rook.

Chess Combat (Match 1)

Santario’s eyes locked on Jan, her newest victim; unfortunately for him, it seemed her usual prowess had returned, even if only for the moment, and she was ready to unleash a hurricane. Bridget’s voice released an incantation behind her, and another sensation of relief washed over her, giving the second wind she seemed to have acquired an extra push.
“Ventus!” Santario exclaimed with the passion that seemed to burn through her. The magic flowed through her unabated, and as it left her wand, for a second time, the stream split. Both Jan and Milosh would be engulfed by a fury of her wind. A smirked played with her lips, knowing the healing the opposing Queen had just given himself had been futile.
Her head turned slightly so she could look back at her partner and respond with a smirk. “Thank you, Bridget.” The flames on Illowy caught her eyes, but it had been the first time she had been hit, so San was sure she would be alright. “Let’s show them that when we bite back, it comes with a dose of venom.” Santario wasn’t usually one for a play on words when it came to duelling, but, just like Bridget, she wanted to help keep their morale up.
