Dmitri would roll his eyes as he deigned to heal two of his teammates. "Must I do everything around here? I haven't seen any of you pull your weight thus far." The ever-present frown on his face deepened as one of his underclassmen stumbled to a halt beside him.
"Oh, how nice of you to join us. Don't think I didn't notice you missing at least 90% of your spells." Turning his attention back to the arena, he'd add, "Meet me after the game. I'll have a word with you."

It was relieving to Ret to hit her target; between her frequent zoning out and her frustrated misfires, the duel had been ripping at the seams. However, each well-aimed and vibrant jet of light was a restoration of the threads, binding themselves together once more and braiding into victory. The young blonde's eyes flickered to her teammates, the agony burning through one in particular transferring to her, further darkening her expression.
He was such a distraction. Worse, not the only one, just the peak of the mountain. She twirled her wand between her fingers, humming an unrecognizable tune and now glaring at the opposing team, praying the fog in her mind would part with each gust of air. The girl went back to a ready position once the mental path was clear of mist, considering her next move.

Alan only heard it when it was too late to stop, the start of a hiss located from somewhere in the audience of the foreign student's side. A hiss that would grow loud and end with a bang in the stands as sparks flew; a cracker jinx and it had caught the attention of the whole NPC team as well as Adonis, who had their attention drawn to the noise in the back of their eye. "We don't permit the audience to cast any sorts of spells, if I see anyone cast another spell, I'll have to ask you to leave!", the prefect announced to whoever in the audience had caused the interruption before bringing his focus back to the game. Meanwhile he could see that Dmitri had refreshed his fog charm, whereas Astrea was healing both herself and Sarah, who moved. Violet would try to cast the disarming spell, making Alan frown as he not remembered her being able to cast it and soon enough he saw the spell fail from the source. He had been right after all. He truly hoped the next round could move on properly without any further distractions from the audience, feeling bad for the foreign team that had fallen victim to the shenanigans. He also witnessed as Felix dropped to the stage, unconscious. The flames had melted away one of his eyebrows and had burned holes into his uniform. Immediately Alan would call for one of the first helpers to get him off the stage and to Brumby.

Irina watched as boy she had so desperately tried to save dropped down unconscious. He was out of the duel and just looking at him, Irina remembered why she quit duelling. It was hard to see a teammate go down but it also was uncomfortable for her to watch an opponent go down by her doing. Now, she had to avenge Felix and win the game.

Chess Combat (Match 2)
With the opposing team momentarily distracted by a stray spell sparking up from the spectator seats, Astrea took full advantage of the action cue to continue pushing magic into the steady stream of healing she had found herself sustaining.
Most of her attention focused upon the internal structure of the team, she was in full view of her fellow duelist make the move for the disarming charm, though she was sure that the other was just at that age to learn it later when the year started up. Presumably, the girl had heard or witnessed the charm of but never properly learned, not a hint of success to show for their attempt. An interesting show of their trademark ambition, though at an unfortunate time in which every spell counted.
Part of the team was looking worse for wear, but none had faltered as one of the foreigners finally fell, the first downed player left tattered and burnt as the match continued around them, carried off to safety. The drain of vitality and motioning through magical muscle memory was something so deeply linked to their line of mock battle that it was to be expected, regardless of the physical and emotional aches that sprung up afterwards.
To conduct any form of extracurricular, or to simply school at Hogwarts overall, was to risk and one couldn't delude themselves into complacency. This match, specifically, was less an innocent game and more a practical test of international skill.

@Dmitri Jones''Are you kidding me?!'' Violet said in response to what her Captain said. ''I'm not the only one missing spells! Besides, I keep getting distracted by this guy. See-'' Violet said this as the guy she was talking about fell to the ground, burnt and out of the game. She definitely did not want to talk to her creepy captain. Jeez, well it seemed like she did need to. It was his orders, after all.

English • #2E8B57 | Welsh • #0080BF | French • #804080As Sarah took her step forward, moving onto the position she'd intended to before when she'd been knocked backwards, she couldn't help but notice the heated discussion going on between two fo her teammates. Although she couldn't hear every word being passed in hushed voices, she managed to grasp the basis of what was being said. It was true that Violet had perhaps missed a few too many spells during this match, but the Slytherin was certain that she too had failed to cast more than she would have liked as well. A part of her wanted to speak out, to claim that Violet had been no less effective than other member on their team. But the more reasonable part of her realised that now was not the time to be heroic and step into someone else's rescue - least of all when the girl looked to be holding her own perfectly alright. She did wonder whether her captain's irritation would be aimed at her next though and groaned at the thought.
The argument seemed mildly overshadowed, however, as the opposing white-haired boy fell to the floor. Sarah cringed inwardly, the pain still clearly etched into the boy's face even now when he was unconscious and perhaps less aware of it - hopefully less aware of it. And though she felt a wave of guilt when she realised that she was at least partially responsible, she also felt backhanded glee bubble up inside of her when she realised they'd defeated one of their opponents. Amaury refocused on the match in front of him just in time to see Felix fall to the ground, finally too weak to sustain any more damage. Although the boy was the first to fall victim to the game, he wouldn't lose Amaury's respect. At least Felix had fought valiantly, as opposed to that cowardly Hogwartsian who hid behind his team and their healing spells at the first sight of trouble. But the loss of Felix hardly marked the beginning of the end for the international team. They may have been down a player, but there was still plenty of fight left in the rest of them.

It happened too fast.
There'd been something in the crowd, something that caught her eye for no more than a second. She'd marveled at it, blinked and turned back to the game as the prefect yelled something, but the spells had already come flying. Felix dropped to the ground limply, as though a puppet with severed strings. Ret could do no more than gape, turn to her teammates in hopes they had some master plan.
They were all as stunned by the spell, too. Heat rose, from the center of her heart to her cheeks, but her anger wasn't justified; she hadn't been paying attention either. He was taken for help in just another heartbeat's time, and dawdling wouldn't avenge him. Ret bit her lip, woke herself from this waking nightmare, and shoved herself into yet another ready position. Perhaps her heart would feel a new ambitious fire.
