As the girls stepped forward into the new path and the violin and boot sought to join them, Greta couldn't help but smile. It was like a scene out of a children's book. Two girls on a harrowing adventure, collecting a gathering of misfit companions as they played and danced their way into the great unknown towards fun and possibility. The Hogwarts girl's demeaner only served to heighten that sentiment. Where she had seemed a touch cautious and perhaps reticent initially, Greta could tell she was starting to relax. Perhaps even having a bit of fun? The tone of her voice seemed more confident now. Relaxed.

With a grin, Greta sashayed forward, smiling amiably to herself as she went. Although still gloomy, the light by the other girl's wand served well to banish some of the darkness. It wasn't long before they passed the likeness of some woman. Greta gave the bust a cursory glance, tilted her head in confusion at the sign, and moved along. She'd had half a mind to pay it a closer inspection, but something else had caught her attention. The smell of cookies wafted through the air, nursing Greta's nose towards it like a hooked fish.

"Cookies!" she squealed in delight, her excitement causing a slip into Norwegian as her feet pitter pattered in the direction of the intoxicating aroma.

It wasn't cookies that greeted her in the next room beyond the plethora of popping poppers and falling confetti, however, but rather an array of donuts and candy. Sparing a moment only long enough to decide what to grab, Greta dove in, snatching up a donut in her wand hand, and a handful of candies in the other. Which she promptly slipped into one of her many patchy pockets on her dress before grabbing a few more and plopping them into her mouth.

"Iz pwezen for finish cwoze?" Greta wondered through a mouth full of pastry, her already butchered English all the more incoherent as she turned a curious look to her companion. Rather than try to continue with what even she knew was a lost cause, Greta lofted her wand to point in the direction of the cookie smell, her expression quizzical, silently asking if that was the direction they wanted to go.

Holding Flash's hand had an immediate comforting effect on Opeila, making it easier to pull herself together and focus on getting through the maze. She was fine, Flash was fine, the girl, Kit, was also fine. They were all fine.

As the path got more narrow, the two third years were forced to let go of each others hands but that was alright. Opeila had enough selfcontrol now to keep the unsettled feeling inside her stomach at bay. This was a school event, they would not allow anyone to die here. School events at Hogwarts hadn't killed anyone yet, right? Attacked, yeah, but not killed. The fightclub had not been a school event.

Her housemate continued to talk to the foreign girl who told them that she was from Beauxbatons. While Opeila still didn't participate in the conversation, she was listening now. This interested her. Except for some Durmstrangs she had not spoken to people from other schools yet. And that didn't even count really, as that boy from Durmstrang had only pranked her with a donut filled with ho sauce, together with Margo.

Speaking of, she hadn't seen Margo for a while. It was a shame, she had really liked the older girl.

Following Greta down the path made Lavinia feel a lot more relaxed. Even though she remembered the last maze she attended, her company this time around was much better. Greta was so excited about the maze and seemed to just focus on having a good time. Luckily for Lavinia that made her feel better about the whole ordeal. As the walked, Lavinia noticed that another song was being played causing her to turn around to see the violin floating behind them with the boot dancing along. It was a nice sight and it was one that made Lavinia shed a genuine smile.

Moving onward, the sound of the boot hopping started to fade away as they walked farther away. It must have stopped at some point in the path. All of a sudden, a big pop was heard and confetti was shot out at the two of them. Jumping at the loud noise, Lavinia took a second a second to slow down her heart rate. The was very nice yet it definitely came as a surprise. Maybe Lavinia should have expected it when choosing to go down the party path.

Arriving at a table filled with sweets, Lavinia loved how excited Greta was. The girl was stuffing candy into her pockets and it just made Lavinia smile. Hoping that the treats weren’t poisonous, Lavinia grabbed a donut and bit into it. Hearing Greta say something, Lavinia realized that she had no idea what it was. It was in English-ish but was hard to make out due to the food in her mouth and made no sense. Smiling nevertheless, Lavinia watched as Greta pointed her wand in the direction of the cookie smell. It was to the right and looked similar to the one that they were on currently. “Alright! Towards the cookie smell it is! Hopefully we are almost at the end!” Lavinia said energetically while starting down the party path 2.0, completely disregarding the other option.

The left path, it was. Process of elimination had gotten them to what seemed like the right answer. Everyone was still together, although the path seemed to disagree as sides converged to form only a narrow walkway. Single-file was also fine, it just took a little longer to get the information from one side to the next. Now was the perfect time for the hedges, but they didn't. Not that Kit was paying as much attention now, more focused on her response to the continued conversation.

"Yeah, it's nice," the girl would hesitate before continuing, "not my first pick, but it's a good school. The Abraxans are cool, too." It hadn't really been her decision to go to Beauxbatons after all, but it was better to look on the positive side of seven years than to be bitter about it. Kit was now a lot farther from her parents- a bonus in her mind. They couldn't possibly nag as much or explain how Belle was doing so well compared to whatever trouble Kit had found herself in. It wasn't-

Her shoe nearly kicked Opeila as they stopped, blinking to center herself in the maze. Another decision or a need to escape? Being short compared to the others didn't help with narrow walls, but eventually the almost-second year would get the message. Direction. "Sounds good." Either way would probably be fun.

Not that it was enough, by now Nate was slightly out of breath from all the running, but now he had to stumble and fell to the ground. However, he didn't fall on a hard floor as one might expect, but into a cool slush that quickly turned out to be mud. "Damn it." He cursed as he surveyed his mud covered body. But that was only the lesser evil in this situation. He had arrived at a dead end, he could not go right, he could not go left. The path from which he had come had closed and he was trapped in a prison of leaves.

He frantically turned his wand left and right, there had to be a way out somewhere. A hole in the bushes, a hidden secret way. But he found nothing. He looked behind him, more mud. His only hope now was that there was a way out somewhere in the mud. The last thing he wanted was to roll in the mud now, but he obviously had no choice. "Gosh I hate this." He groaned as he picked himself up and moved further in the mud and to his surprise, or rather hope, he found that it was actually getting deeper. Maybe there really was a way out of here and he set about digging further in the mud to find a way that would free him from this prison.

The small students had avoided any new danger thus far, but how long could they continue to avoid the many strange dangers of the maze? Flash had suggested the more open route and it seemed that his companions agreed with the decision well enough. Again the path would begin to quickly turn as they walked. After a short while, the girls would begin to hear a splashing sound under their feet.

They would feel a thin layer of water on the ground, seeping into their shoes, that lightly splashed as they walked. Even the walls of the hedges around them seemed to be almost dripping wet despite a lack of rain. With each step, the water would get slightly deeper but still was no more than a small puddle depth covering the grass below. The group would reach a new fork offering them a familiar choice of Left or Right. However, they would see a damp note at the entrance to the Right path that simply read ‘Out of Order’. What that meant would remain to be seen.

Nate might not have wanted to get muddy but it seemed that the maze left him with no options. He was already coated in the frigid mud so there wasn’t exactly much he could ruin in terms of his clothing. Looking around, he would not be able to see anything but the green walls of the hedges towering above him. So into the mud he would have to go. It was a deep and watery mud that would allow Nate to slosh through the mud with ease.

As Nate examined and trudged deeper into the mud, he would be able to feel some kind of level at the bottom of the mud. What the lever did was unclear but there were not very many options for the boy. To get a firm grip on the lever, however, Nate would need to submerge himself in the mud.

It seemed that no magical carpet ride would distract the young Greta from the smell of cookies. She was already helping herself to the multitude of candies and pastries that were on the path. It seemed that the girl might have a bit of a sweet tooth and had found the perfect path to indulge it. Even Lavinia indulged in a scrumptious donut before the girls would turn towards the beautiful scent of cookies.

As they wandered down the path, they would round a bend and come to a hallway. A hallway filled with what looked like hundreds of warm cookies. All of the cookies were floating in the air, suspended by some charm and just waiting for someone to grab them. Even in the dim light, they would be able to smell and see dozens of different kinds of cookies floating about. At the very center of the floating cookies, however, there was a massive chocolate chip cookie. With about a meter diameter, the massive cookie floated among the others and looked ready to cure any sugary desire someone might have. If they continued forward, it would be nearly impossible to not bump into any of the floating cookies.

How to Navigate the Maze

1. Each round you can choose an available direction to travel or to take a different action.
2. Each moderation will list the available directions for each student.
3. You can choose to stay as a group or wander off on your own. But if you are alone...beware of the orange.
4. Depending on the paths chosen, you may encounter challenges or changes within the maze.
5. Stats will be used in this tread and thus you will need to ensure they are in your trunk.
6. There will be a moderation post at least once a week. Quicker moderations will be done if all active participants have replied.
7. If a participant misses two weeks of moderation, it will be assumed they decided to take a nap and will be removed from the maze for their safety!
8. As always...clothing will be required in this thread!

As the other two agreed, Flash felt a weight off his chest with the increase of breathing room. A small sigh, then a quick look around only confirmed there was not much to see through the fog. Even though there were clearly traps and peril, Flash was ever so slightly excited to discover the unknown. The tall green hedges and the distance from average life made him almost feel like he was lost in a fairy tale. Well, to a Muggle his whole life would seem like a fairy tale. The reality was living in a magical world was often far more terrifying than it was charming. Here, with these two, he could imagine he was on some fanciful adventure instead of being a child waiting out the time before homework started back up.

"Really? It wasn't?" Flash started, curious about Kit's choice of wording. "You know it's funny, I had never even considered what it would be like to attend another school. I wonder how different life would be if I had gone somewhere else."

His daydreaming would be cut short as his shoe promptly submerged in murk. He'd let out a brief disgusted noise, then sigh. "Be careful." They could clean and dry themselves with magic later, but that didn't make the present feeling of soggy shoes any more painless. As he continued to trudge through it, still preferring getting a little dirty to squeezing through tight rows. On the other end, a note marked one of the two paths as being 'out of order', whatever that meant.

"Out of order... what do you two think?"

Opeila was only too glad to take a more open path, the narrow hedges did make her feel uneasy. This new path was a lot more comfortable to walk on in comparison. She still listened to the conversation of her two companions, as a quiet observer so far and that was all fine with her. The third year only spoke up when Kit told them that Beauxbatons had not been her first choice of school. "Oh? May I ask what your first choice was?" Opeila hoped that this wasn't a tactless thing to ask, but since the redhaired girl had been the one to bring up the topic in the first place, it couldn't be a too sore one for her.

Flash seemed surprised as well, telling the two girls that he had never considered what going to another school would be like. "Me neither..." Though, if they hadn't known that Lady Margary would have been against it, the Virtanens would have probably made her go to Durmstrang with Lysander. A new start. And... many potential alliances of political convenience. Thank god that Lady Margary would have been against it.

It was the feeling of cold water getting into her left shoe that cut off Opeila's thoughts. "Ugh..." The young girl lifted her left foot off the ground, only to feel her right one getting wet. "Ah, great...", she sighed. Thank god she knew the hot air charm. The three children stopped at a sign that said 'Out of Order'. "I don't know... I feel like that might get us into the next trap. Out of order doesn't sound so good. Are we up to another possible attack?" She was alright now. She had caught herself, gotten into the state of mind that could still take attacks and unpleasant surprises. If they got attacked now, she wouldn't freeze. She would act.

"Damn it." Nate continued to curse as he stepped through the cold mud. He held his arms up at his sides, trying to keep them at least halfway out of the mud. What had he gotten himself into here? But he had to go through it now. The annoyed Russian continued to fight his way forward through the mud, which to his advantage was very watery and made it easier to move forward. After a few steps, the mud became deeper, he sank further down and he wondered if there was simply no way out. Should he send a signal into the air? He didn't want to give up, he wanted to make it out of this labyrinth.

In the middle of his predicament, he suddenly felt something under his feet. It felt like some kind of lever, was this possibly his way out? Could he still make it? The only way to find out was right underneath him. But he couldn't pull on it with his feet, he would have to submerge himself in the mud. He stood there for a few seconds, ruffling his hair, would he really do that now? After a few quiet seconds he released his clasped hands from his head. Screw it. He took one deep breath, held it, closed his eyes and now plunged his whole body into the mud. With his eyes closed, he groped for the lever with his hands and grabbed it with both hands. He tried to place his feet to the left and right of it respectively but wide enough that he would not stand on any door and began to pull hard while supporting himself off the ground with his legs.

Please work. Please go up and please let this be my way out were the only things going through his mind. He took all his strength and pulled on it, his biceps were tense, he could feel his back muscles twitching and his thighs were also under full tension. The only thing he was waiting for was that the lever would release and Nate would find a way out of this mud before he ran out of air and strength.

The other girl's acquiesence made Greta smile. Her excitement wasn't all that different from the smell of cookies in a way. The further they entered, the stronger it grew. It was sweet, pleasant, infectious. There had been no specific expectation about this particular event, and in fact, it had started off on a rather sour note when the realization had dawned that she would have to progress entirely alone and without the support of any familiar faces. But the further they moved on, the more enjoyable Greta came to find teh girl's company.

Without hesitation, Greta scampered on forward towards the smell, half jogging, half skipping. Smile broadening as they approached the path, it became quite clear as to just why the smell of cookies was so strong. Soon enough, they encountered a corridor positively teaming with palm sized delectables hovering tantalizingly in mid-air, just asking to be nibbled. A second thought wasn't even given as Greta hopped right on up to one near the start of it all and leaned forward to take a bite right out of it where it hung, her attention entirely diverted to something else quite a bit more remarkable.

"Look!" She proclaimed breathlessly to her companion, pointing forward down the hall. In the distance, she saw what was inarguably the biggest cookie she had ever seen in her life! Jaw slacking in awe, she'd continue on, leaving the molested cookie hanging where it was without finishing or grabbing at it. Empty (albeit, sticky) hand gently sweeping weightless cookies left and right to clear a path for them to progress, she waded through the haze of treats towards the mighty king of sweets.
