Tristan’s smile only grows as Winter takes the licorice, a certain sense of self-satisfaction coming over the boy’s demeanor. It was good licorice, (if one was fond of the acquired taste of black licorice), if a mite on the chewy side.

Ashton was from Scotland too. There was a moment’s glance his way, and a subtle increase of Tristan’s smile, before his eyes go elsewhere during the conversation. He seemed to enjoy the conversation in a subtle way, bordering the realm between introvert and extrovert, perhaps.

Winter seemed a bit anxious, or shy; but really, they all were at this point. So with a cut of his eyes across the other occupants of the cabin, his eyes go outdoors, looking to the landscape outside, as the sight of the landscape, magical and mundane, roars by along the bumpy train.

At least until his attention was drawn back to Winter. “Bloody hell,” he curses at her revelation, a bit of sheepishness coming across him as that swear had slipped out. He pushes through that with a push of his hand through his short hair, mussing the style it was in a touch. So probably best, in an attempt not to make Winter feel too out of sorts, he further covers his explanation with further words. “…so you’re both from London,” he says. “Going out to the countryside like this might be a bit of a change?” he asks.

But Venn had a question, and Tristan gestures to his own head. “They have a hat, or so my older sister said,” he says. “It sits on your head and picks out your House for you,” he says. A beat more. The second question was coming sooner, and he too, looks back out to the landscape.

Winter’s a second year, you’ve been on this train before, ay?” he says, looking back to the dhamphir that he was guessing was a wee bit on the shy side.

Winter liked these new found, friends? I mean they seemed nice and she would be happy to become friends with some first years! Her gaze wandered for a minute before it had focused on Ashton, he had found winter cool- well she was sure he was just fascinated by different species but still the words from the boy made her smile. None of the three others in the compartment had seemed to care that she was different, unlike the few people she had met whilst she too was a first year... but that just made her like these guys more, they were kind and honestly really cool in her opinion.

Out of the blues a sudden curse escaped the boys mouth, "Yeah.. the scenery is way different compared to london, i find it more peaceful truthfully" she had responded to Tristan, her expression not changing from its slight smile, obviously nervous look. Winter had actually been starting to join in the conversation, finally speaking more. Some questions flew around, one coming from Venn, about the sorting ceremony. Before a word could escape her lips, Tristan had answered his question, winter just nodding in agreement "Yea, your judged by the sorting hat, he sorts you into one of the four houses.." she said, listing the houses in order "So based on your traits and personality... you get placed where you belong.. for example i'm a Hufflepuff!" she spoke the name proudly and smiled at the sound of it, Hufflepuff

At first she was quite upset at which house she was set into, knowing that Hufflepuff were supposed to be one of the lower houses. But yet, after some time passed she grew to love and be proud of where she was. Like it or not she indeed was a badger, loyal and hardworking! "The hat is never wrong.. after all he knows all" she added, her smile growing a bit more. It wasn't too long after she had finished talking when another question had shot out, this time from Tristan, her eyes meeting his same as they had upon first arriving. "O-Oh uhm yea many times actually.. i usually sit with my friends but they were cramped in other seats- with all the new arrivals the seats are getting, a bit crowded.." she said, her gaze moving on again, back to the window.

Going in the conversation again, Ashton couldn't help but interfere. Taking his eyes off of the window, he asked, "So this magic hat knows what house I will be based on my personality and all? Alright... So it means that the hat can speak?" You couldn't blame Ashton for asking this. His family didn't explained much about how the sorting in Hogwarts are. "So a Hufflepuff? That's cool, my sister is also one. I heard Hufflepuff's are loyal and kind. And I think this'll be a long ride."

Ashton said, saying the first bit to Winter and the last bit to Venson. "So, what house do you two think you'll be sorted in?" He asked Tristan and Venson. He himself thinks that he'll be sorted into Gryffindor since he has a lot of traits in common with his dad. But then again, he can also be a Slytherin. He guess he'll just have to wait for the results. Come to think of it, his family is actually complete with all the houses. Gryffindor dad, Slytherin mom, Hufflepuff sister, and Ravenclaw sister. He'll just be an addition then.

Ashton then thought of something ridiculous. What if... The hat was wrong in sorting? Winter already said it herself, that the hat is always right in sorting but it would be interesting to at least have the hat to double guess itself and wrongly place one student at a house. Shaking his head, he laid deeper into his seat. He'll have to preserve his mind till his actual first day in Hogwarts.
