─────Highly esteemed. Not words often picked to describe Maggie Hawkins. Still, though, if Grace Swan thought those were the best words to describe her? How could she, with good conscience and heart, deny it? Meet Miss Maggie Hawkins, a highly esteemed individual. Her official, working title. Should she make business cards? The possibilities were endless!

Maggie drew her knee to her chest, laid her chin on her kneecap, and watched Grace with a simple smile. Huh.

"You have a background in baking or something? You're really talented," she commented, reaching out and grabbing a scone tenderly. Scones! Maybe Maggie should keep Grace Swan around for the foreseeable future. Couldn't see how it would be bad whatsoever, just a mutually beneficial exchange.

Grace got hilarious comments from yours truly, and Maggie got baked goods and sweet lemonade.

Everyone won, nobody lost.

God, Maggie loved mutually beneficial relationships!

"So, are you, like, from this world? Is that offensive? I haven't really gotten the hang of this whole place," everyone seemed to know everything miles before Maggie knew it. Already knew basic spells and stuff; already knew these kids and had those preconceived notions of houses and places and customs.

Maggie hadn't the slightest idea of what a Hogsmeade was, what Zonkos could be.

Grace looked at Maggie’s plaid dress. It was plain, but it matched her shoes perfectly. Grace loved everything about Maggie’s outfit and wondered where she bought her clothes. Grace’s outfit was just lounging clothes, not something so fashionable as a dress.

Grace had forgotten all about the rock mishap, and was on to better things: such as making a friend. Grace’s eyes lit up with joy when her baking was complimented. She had worked so hard to make everything perfect, and she was glad that Maggie liked her treats.

I spent most of my time at home, so I had lots of opportunities to bake as much as I wanted.

Grace smiled before listening to Maggie’s second question.

That’s not offensive at all! I am from this world actually. I’m from a pureblood family. My mom was a Hufflepuff and my father was a Gryffindor, so I grew up learning all about the wizard if world.
Grace assumed from the way Maggie phrased her question that she was not a pureblood, and did not know much about the wizarding world.

If you ever need help with anything here, or a place to stay during breaks, I would love to help you. Maybe I could even teach you how to make some delicious baked goods.

Invitations to @Maggie Hawkins

─────Woah. Maggie had never really met someone like Grace Swan, who was so kind and effortless. In Maggie's experience, being nice was hard. Really and honestly. Sometimes people just didn't deserve kindness. Or maybe Maggie was just rude, because honestly? Sometimes she didn't like people, simple as that. Didn't like people and she figured that was enough reason to make fun of them.

Was that flawed logic? Absolutely. Did Maggie care? Only a little bit.

"Well, my mom's a witch. If that counts. Just didn't tell anyone about it, you know, which I think is probably imperative to keep a marriage afloat," which would explain the lack of a biological father. So.

The invite threw Maggie for a loop, though. So easy, such an easy invitation to go and share a break with someone and their family. Maggie never would've thought that so quick into the year here at Hogwarts, she'd make such a friend.

It had never really happened in the muggle world she was so used to because muggle children often considered her to be an irritation beyond her own imagination. Which was fair, considering she annoyed even herself on occasion. But Grace? Grace liked her. At least a little bit.

"Yeah, yeah, I think I'd like that. If you'd have me," Maggie smiled, leaned back on her palm. Funny feeling, huh? "I like you. Gonna call you Lemonade."

Nicknames! What fun! Her new friend Lemonade.

Really, though, Maggie did like Grace. Maybe a bit timid, a bit quiet, but there was no issue with that as far as she was concerned. Maggie balanced out most duos, trios, even quartets with her own yammering. Never seemed to stop talking, really, so a silent friend was the least of her worries.

To Grace, Maggie seemed like a kind and sweet person. She just had a bit of a rough exterior hiding the true self. Maggie seemed to balance out Grace in the best way possible. Their personalities may seem like they would clash, but they actually molded together to make one good team, friendship even. A Gryffindor and Slytherin friendship. Grace wondered how Maggie saw this though, as Maggie had not said much about their acquaintance yet.

Grace’s question was answered when Maggie started talking about Grace’s new nickname. Maggie said that she liked Grace!! But Lemonade as a nickname was something she had never heard before. Was it because of her golden, sunny locks, or because of the scrumptious lemonade that Grace had offered to Maggie? Either way, Grace was happy with this new friend.

Grace decided to come up with a nickname of her own for Maggie. This was a tough one because she did not have much insight on Maggie yet. Grace knew about Maggie’s home life from the previous conversation, but that was definitely not something to make a nickname out of. Maybe it could be something simple and sweet. Grace would have to think more about that later.

“Lemonade? That’s a new one! I need to think of one for you now. Tell me more about you!”

XXXXYeah, Maggie thought she liked Grace. Liked Grace a lot. Grace Swan was sweet and kind and everything that Maggie was not; thoughtful, gentle, smooth where Maggie was rough and hard-cut. They balanced one another out quite well, now, didn't they? A Gryffindor and a Slytherin, the two houses that were famously against one another and at each other's throats wherever they could be. It was funny, really, because Maggie had all these preconceived notions of what the other houses were. Not as strong as some of these students, the ones who had been raised around magic and the wizarding world their whole lives, but over the last few weeks, Maggie had heard the odd comment and idea about the other houses. Kinda had you wondering what was true and where these rumors came from, didn't it?

Ooh! Nicknames! Maggie's favorite! "Oh, about me? Well," where to start? It wasn't often that you got asked upfront, straightforward, to talk about yourself. And yeah, while Maggie did enjoy talking about herself and being the center of attention, it was tough to come up with things to say about you on such short notice. "I like movies. Horror movies, mostly. And the fall, you know?" A good start. Likes and dislikes could be a good basis for nicknames, in Maggie's experience. Likes, dislikes, personality, interests. Things of that nature. "I think I'd like to be a Quidditch player, someday. Just the idea of it is super awesome, isn't it? And I like to go adventuring. Ooh! And I do ventriloquy! I'm a ventriloquist!"

A very amateur one, at that. Maggie wasn't a professional by any means and often had a hard time with making her puppets talk without moving her lips. Which was funny considering that was the whole point! Then, of course, the small fact that Maggie wasn't nearly as good at accents as she thought she was. No matter. Didn't matter.
