Chess Combat (Match 1)

INTERACTIONS: Guest Team
Right, things had been going awesome really but the situation now showed how things could turn on them in the blink of an eye. Jan watched rather taken aback as Rodion was carried off leaving them a man down. The guy had taken one too many spells and as a result had to be elimanated from the match. Okay, so the Hogwarts kids had some bite to them and his own wand seemed deadset on refusing to work with him today of all days. Sure, he had got some lucky hits off but for the majority, it was like the blasted thing woke up and decided it would incovenice Jan in any way possible and he was simply not having it today.
If anything, he defintely didn't want to up like his fellow rook and he was going to make sure to exhause all options to prevent that from happening. "I just need a few more good casts, that's it. C'mon now." He said as if hoping his wand would heed his requests focusing back on the foes in front of them. Right, it was clear they were the best this school had to offer and they had certainly lived up to that title but that didn't mean he wasn't going to at least try and see if he could get one. They had taken one of their's, it was only fair that he returned the favour in full and Jan had no qualms about fulfilling the request if only his wand would cooperate with him for the time being.

Alisa cursed under her breath in Russian - colorful enough that her grandma would have scolded her for it if she'd heard. She had missed.RPing as iNPC Alisa Sokolova.
That was not something that usually happened. It had, of course, nobody was perfect, but she tried to be, at least in this, in Duelling, and every miss was a blemish on her reputation in Alisa's book. She needed to be more focused, show all of her skill instead of flunking around like an amateur.
Breathe in, out. In, out. Alisa relaxed her shoulders, her too-tight grip on her wand. She couldn't let a few subpar rounds affect her game. Duelling was half in your head, and she'd had never had had trouble with that and wouldn't start now.

Ah, and there it was. Amongst the shifts and flame it finally arrived; the first one to finally fall. Personally, she couldn't recall ever seeing San use incendio in a duel. Actually, she thought she'd heard before that the younger witch had quite a dislike using them against opponents in duels. Evidently that had been throw to the wind; by Merlin did San cut that lad down in quite the glorious display.
If she were a more compassionate person, Illowy might've felt some pity for the kid as the duel was paused and the flames put out so to carry the boy away. Unfortunately, her empathy extending past those she actually cared about was out of commission at the moment. The girl simply shifted in her square, a sly smirk on her lips knowing they were officially ahead and the odds were back in their favor.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Chess Combat (Match 1)
It was still very hard to see how the balance of this combat was going to go. On the one hand, the enemy team had gotten the first casualty, yet there were several members of his own team who were quite wounded. Overall the balance was straight in the middle, still with the potential to go in any direction.
One way the opponent could win is if they managed to take him out, which would be quite unfortunate. Which is why instead of sending spells at his opponent Alexander instead decided to take another course of action, dodging.
A course of action that might have been a tad bit excessive, as he quickly managed to dodge the opponent's spell without it coming anywhere near him. This give Alexander a quick moment to look around the battlefield, asses the situation, and once more jump into action.

The match had suffered its first casualty: Rodion of the visiting team.
All Slytherins save one were on the move, strategically repositioning themselves, and the exception- Alexander- was busy being on the lookout for spells. It was just as well, too: had he not, the Flipendo fired off by Alisa surely would have struck him. Jan made the same attempt at Bridget, but her Knockback Jinx was dodged in turn. Milosh used this brief lapse in opponent offense to extinguish himself, snuffing the last of the flames clinging to his clothes, though Karilyna still seemed frozen, perhaps overwhelmed by the bizarre duel. The Guests had dealt a great deal of damage thus far, but how would that change now that they were one man down, and Slytherin looked to be closing in for the kill?

The Flipendo was expected, predictable. It was far from poor strategy, but having gone through the same thing for many rounds now, she was ready for it. His sputtering wand finally produced a clean cast, one that she easily leaned away from before stepping up and to the right into the space Santario had just abandoned.
It was a relief to finally be out of the range of spells, tucked safely among teammates. They'd converged into a sort of pack, Alexander well-shielded a step behind. He'd somehow emerged completely unscathed from his time in the open, and though it had cost them a few casting opportunities, this was good.
And, somehow, the tides seemed to be turning in their favor. They were no longer on the retreat, at least. Pieces of strategies were falling into place in her mind. Their second wind had come, and they need only seize it and not let go until the international Queen fell or the time ran out. "Come on, Vipers!" It had been a while since her last encouragement, too battered and stressed to spend the breath, but now that she could again, why not? This was the moment to focus, to capitalize. Victory was not yet guaranteed.

They hadn´t been able to hit yet again, but it didn´t even matter as the opposing team seemed they wanted to change up their strategy. Nearly everyone was within hitting range on both teams, but with the way their spells had been going it wasn´t looking up for them. Their previous lead had slowly dwindled and now being down a player showed it´s disadvantage very clearly. If nothing else, they now could be cornered easier. But Milo wouldn´t let that happen, not without a fight.Playing as iNPC Milosh Rehnquist
He grit his teeth, surveying the board like he always did each round and nodded encouragingly or as much so as he could muster to his 3 remaining teammates. We can do this. Hell it´l be hard but it´s not impossible. The boy would raise his fist and voice together in the air. For Rodion! He´d yell, fist pumped in the air before his eyes narrowed, sending a challenge to Alexander, the other Queen. Hopefully his rallying would clear the mind of his teammates, enough to focus and cast spells properly, for he wasn´t done fighting and he hoped his team wasn´t either.

The damage was done. The boy was on fire, but not for long. FInally he took the time to extinguish the hungry flames - just she herself did it a few seconds earlier with Santario. The young Slytherin girl scanned the situation, trying to ignore the nagging guilt and overwhelming emotions, keeping her mind cool and steady. Why was it so hard this time? She had fought one of her best friends on stage for Merlin’s sake! And yet this was so much harder. It was like her struggles with actually harming others had become stronger over time. That was not how it was supposed to be, right?
Well, she just hoped she would never have to face Dee on stage though...
With a silent sigh she forced herself to focus on the situation again. It was not a good time to let her thoughts wander. One mistake and she would be the weak link in her whole team. She would not be the one to take them down. With a quick step she managed to get into a better position unharmed.
Her brown eyes scanned her own team and then slowly their opponents. Well, although it had looked bad for them at the start it looked like they were probably finally turning it around.

The gates had been cracked open, and this was a different side of Santario as adrenaline flooded through her veins. A side that forgot what she typically told her team. This was just a game, win or lose, it is good practice, and you can learn from it. No, this side of Santario was going for the throat and abandoning her standard moral guidelines in what she would or would not use in an official duel.
If there was one thing she had learned about herself was every moment she had been close to going unconscious, flight or fight kicked in, and Santario was no longer one to run. Much to the dismay of people who had come to care about her. With Rodion down and the team falling into place, she counted how many rounds were left; five. Just because the other group was down one person did not mean they would lose. It was still a decently matched fight for the moment.
However, Alex and Bridget were protected. One of the people on the other team seemed frozen in place, which was unfortunate. If there was one thing she really hated, it was winning because of a fluke or a forfeit, and this girl freezing up surely was a fluke. Thankfully, the other spells missed their marks, and Milosh extinguished himself, which was fine, one less spell they had to dodge while they took their positions. Santario closed her eyes just for a second as Bridget called out a morale boost. A deep breath in through her nose released slowly between her lips. Sapphire eyes opened again, a mask of emotionless indifference plastered on her face as her grip tightened on her wand. It was time to finish this.
