Grace watched as Simon played the piano with ease. She was in awe as his fingers took a stroll across the keys. The song Simon played was one that Grace had never heard before and maybe that’s why she loved it so much. The melody and harmony that the sounds had when they blended together made her feel like she was on a cloud. As he finished, Grace gave Simon a quick hug- it was in her nature to be touchy and she hadn’t hugged him, so she did. Maybe she was being too forward, but that wasn’t on her mind.

Grace, awestruck, smiled a cute dimple-ly smile back at Simon as he turned and smiled at her. When Simon suggested that they do a cliche duet, Grace felt a little nervous. She didn’t know the first thing about pianos. What if she accidentally broke something? But nevertheless Grace accepted.

Of course, we can do a duet any time you want- as long as it isn’t too difficult. We can’t have me struggling can we?

Grace giggled as she finished. Simon went on to ask about her parents and home life, but Grace did not care at all! She did not feel as if he was prying, just that he wanted to get to know her better.

Hmm let’s start with the first question.. They met at Hogwarts. In the courtyard actually. Grace smiled gently before continuing. They started dating a couple months into their first year of school here. They were quite the iconic couple you know, a Hufflepuff and Gryffindor.. Grace hoped that he wouldn’t get her insinuation.

My mother is one of the kindest people that I have ever met. She does everything for everyone. She even took the time out of her busy schedule to homeschool me while growing up. My father is a firecracker. He is just like you would assume a Gryffindor would be. He was not home much.. away on ‘business’ I suppose. I don’t really know what his job is though.

Grace took a deep breath before continuing.
They care a lot about blood status for some reason, always throwing parties for the wizarding folk. I don’t understand why though, it’s the inside that counts.

Grace thought back to her theories about Simon. There was no way he was just a plain wizard, he was too advanced for that. As Simon spoke again, Grace remembered his backstory. Simon lived with his aunt, Aunt Maggie, after his mother died and he did not know who his father was. Grace wanted the best for Simon and wished that his home life was less of a rocky foundation.

No need to apologize, ask as many questions as you want. Tell me more about Aunt Maggie. I would absolutely love to meet her sometime.

"Ah, blood status," he said, knowing that some of the purebloods were like that although he didn't get that vibe one single bit from Grace and was glad of that. "My mum was the only witch in her family, a muggleborn coming here. Her parents weren't of magic and neither was Aunt Maggie. Guess I got lucky that it transferred to me," because it easily could not have. As for his dad, well, that was a COMPLETELY different story.

"Aunt Maggie is the best. She just...doesn't give enough time to herself, you know? Hobbies and relaxing and I'm really hoping she starts dating. I feel like she put her life on hold for me and I don't want that. I'm thankful for it, but I don't ever want her feeling boggled down because she got sole responsibility of a three year old at the age of seventeen." But he also knows that was a lot to take in.

"I hope you meet her too. She helps run this bakery and bookstore in London that's standing at a five star review. She's always bringing me home her latest creations, insisting that I'll love it but sadly, while most seem to truly adore what she makes, I haven't found one thing that I like. It's nothing personal! Really! I just...don't like to eat much. Well, I mean, of course one has to eat to stay alive and all...so I eat, I just don't like the taste of most things, especially baked goods."

Simon leaned down to rifle through his bag a moment and pulled out a cellophane baggie that contained some yellow candies. "This is the only candy I like. I think it's because the sourness balances out the sweetness. Would you like some?" he held the bag out to her.

"I don't mind the questions. Ask away. How else are to get to know one another?"
he popped one of the lemon drops into his own mouth. "And I'd like to get to know more about you, Grace."

"Tell me, when you weren't attending the fancy pureblood dances and whatnot, what did you spend your days doing?" He was curious as to what her hobbies were.

Grace grinned as she popped a sweet but tart lemon drop into her mouth. Her eyes squinched at the sour taste in her mouth.

These are my favorites She mumbled, trying to talk with a sweet in her mouth.

Simon wanted to get to know her? Grace was just a boring girl with a boring background, nothing cool like she would later learn about with Simon’s. His backstory would astound her.

I’m a pretty cut and paste girl, nothing much special about me. I took dance lessons as a girl and sang a lot. I also love baking, it would be amazing to get together with your aunt and bake sometime. Maybe we could even find something you enjoy.

Grace leaned on Simon, using him as a headrest. She wanted to know everything about him: from his favorite color to favorite food.

Tell me more about you Mr. Kincaid. You must have some hobbies other than being musically inclined?

Grace stood up and pulled on Simon’s hand to get him to stand up with her. She spotted a microphone plugged in and had a great idea. The black circled mic brought memories of singing at parties. Grace wondered if Simon would like to sing with her as much as she would like to sing with him.

"Other hobbies than being musically inclined... Oy, you're killing me here," he whispered to her as he thought about it. He could play piano and guitar. He was learning how to be better at trumpet and the saxophone. He wanted to learn drums. No, that was all music. What else? He enjoyed to sing and was part of his church's children's choir and choir in school.Nope, music. What else? He liked to write music and - no, that was music too. Back at his muggle school he also did theater where they would act and they would sing and - no, there was music again.

Simon smiled, those thoughts running through his head. A lot of what he did revolved around music and he loved it, but what else was there? There was a lot more to him than JUST music, even if that was mostly who he was. "Well, I can play a pretty mean game of a chess and I played Squash for my team back at my old school." That was a kinda like racketball or tennis. "I also like to swim and I play hockey, or well, I used to. Not like Hogwarts has a hockey team," he smiled over to the blonde. "Here though I found Broom Racing and I do that. I also like to just read old classic literature and see if I think it should be deemed a classic and I like researching whatever little topic comes to mind to keep my mind active. I also hope to learn how to either draw or paint."

Did he sound like a dork? He hoped not. Honestly, he could be an interesting guy at times so he hoped that Grace Swan wasn't going to write him off as lame.

"Karoke sounds....awesome," and he knew they didn't have a screen that would show the words but if they both knew the song, then it was all good. "What do you feel like singing, Miss Swan? A duet?" He thought of some of the more famous duets that he knew. Some were extremely hokey. "Well, we've got Endless Love, Summer Nights, Everlasting Love, Ain't No Mountain High Enough..." he threw out some he knew well, but wasn't sure if the girl knew them.

Grace was excited when Simon said yes to karaoke. It was so much fun to her. Growing up, Grace had a very ditsy karaoke machine. One of the ones that played the song and connected to a microphone while the words scrolled across the small screen. The suggestions were definitely songs that had been used by people singing karaoke everywhere, but Grace knew them very well. She wondered if Simon had sung as much karaoke as she had. It was unlikely. Hours were spent belting songs into the microphone at home, alone.

We obviously have to sing Summer Nights! Grease is one of my favorite muggle movies ever made.

Grace then realized that she shouldn’t have just announced which song they were singing. He deserved to have a choice in the matter too.

Unless you want to sing something else, that’s completely fine with me. The choice is up to you.

Grace stood there, messing with the seams on her top. A few loose strings released as Grace pulled at them. She knew she probably shouldn’t mess with her things, but it was a nervous thing. Grace couldn’t count how many seams in clothing, shirts, dresses, skirts, shorts, pants, etc., had been torn from constant pulling and twisting. Most of the time, like this one, Grace did not even realize she was doing it. But Grace stood awaiting Simon’s reply.

"You had to go with the cheesiest one, didn't you," he teased her and ran his hand through his hair, trying to ensure it flipped to one side like John Travolta's in Grease. Yes, he knew the movie well. Simon spent a lot of time watching movies, even if they were American films. Some classics just carried over.

"Summer Nights it is," he said. Now this karaoke was going to have to be a little different because there were no karaoke machines at Hogwarts. They couldn't even pull it up on their cellphones or anything like that. It was accapella all the way with just him and just her.

"Alright, Sandy, here we go." He stood up and sort of adjusted his Hogwarts cloak like it was a leather jacket and began with the beat best he could, "do, do do, do do, do do do," and repeated it before beginning, "Summer lovin' had me a blast," then he pointed to her so she could do her line next. Singing was one of Simon's all time favorite things in the world. Anything music, really. It was a shame there wasn't more music at Hogwarts and it was his hope to bring it in. He already had a few phonograph records that could play on the large photograph along the wall of the Rehearsal Room and someday he wanted to get a wireless or a radio, where he could broadcast the Wizarding Wireless Network and listen to broadcasts such as Witching Hour where different musical groups and singers were featured.
