Chess Combat (Match 1)

San seemed to be getting some spark back to her, and that was a relief. Everyone on the team seemed to be getting their edge back... well, almost everyone. From the corner of her eye, she could see Bridget seemed to be struggling desperately, but if she knew her teammate, the other witch wasn't down yet. They just needed to keep holding their ground and get a solid formation back.
The snake shifted on her feet a bit, trying to gauge their current odds. They hadn't fallen out of favor yet. This team hadn't spent countless hours working and training to lose now.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

INTERACTIONS: Guest Team
Okay, maybe he had spoke too soon or something as nothing particulary intersesting happened. He had been hoping to finish the job with this cast but clearly, he was going to be denied that satisfaction. He shook his wand as if hoping it would help him or something, maybe he had overworked it or something, was that even a thing? Regardless if there was anyone who had a right to complain, it would be Rodion who was having an absolute hell of an time and if someone didn't do something soon, they would be down a rook and losing someone would be an absolute blow to their moral especially after they had been performing so flawlessly after their initial rough start to the game.
"Hang in there, bud. You're not down for the count yet." He would offer some words of encouragement hoping to boost his confidence. It was always assumed of course that no match would be without flaws, they were bound to take a few hits here and there but if they could finish strong without a single person, that would just make their victory all the more sweeter. "Right, just work with me for a while longer, yeah?" He muttered eyeing the wand he held hoping that in some world, his words would have some degree of effect because he needed it now more than ever to work and to win this thing so he wouldn't have to shoulder the embarassment of having lost to a school that in Jan's mind still had a thing or two to learn about spellwork if you asked him.

She was moving agsin, trying to predict the other team's movement, doing hert best to avois being boxed in by the Slytherin team but at the same time finding the right position to lanch an attack of her own. Moving was necessary, strategy was necessary - she knew that - but what Alisa really wanted to do was to cast, to fling a spell at her opponents, to do damage.RPing as iNPC Alisa Sokolova.
She'd always been to active a person to do well at playing passive, but needs must.

Alexander could honestly say that he had never been in a battle that was as tense and even as this one. Often in the beginning of a fight the tone for the end was already set. Yet here this was far from the case. Though the Sytherin duelling team wasn’t in an ideal position, they were not that different from their opponent. Case in point his target Rodion. He had taken the full brunt of the knockback spell yet was brought back to the edge of life by reparifors.
Regardless, not it was time for another bout of action

Both sides had someone moving, someone dodging, spells missing their targets. Bridget made another attempt at healing herself, this time successful, a bit of relief. Milosh prioritised getting out of Ileen's line of fire over extinguishing the flames still eagerly consuming his clothes. Then, a tilt of the scales in the Vipers' favour: Rodion was already fighting on borrowed time, and although he spent all his attention on dodging, Santario somehow managed to predict his movements, her jet of flames neatly arcing across the field to burn away the rest of his consciousness, and the boy collapsed where he stood.
Dee had been watching for this and was quick to step forward. "Stop!" she called, halting the match and signalling the healers while she extinguished the flames still merrily flickering on Rodion's unconscious form with her wand. He would be taken to the tent next to the field to be healed.
Her gaze sweeping across the field, Dealla retreated to the sidelines again, giving the signal to resume the match.
The international team was a player short, now. How would they adjust to the change?

Chess Combat (Match 1)

Santario Martin was known for hating the use of fire spells in duels; at least to those in Hogwarts. In fact, so much so that Bridget had never seen her cast one on a proper field. Until today. Maybe it was just the knowledge that the boy wouldn’t go down without after-effected damage, and she had thought that the visiting team would try to save him. Or maybe… Maybe just enough had cracked inside the Viper Captain that she was willing to do real damage now.
Unlike their own team, the visiting team had not seen the benefits of keeping their partner alive, and as Santario sent that roaring flame across the field, the fire burned behind her eyes just as it consumed the boy. She would not linger long, just enough to watch his knees buckle, before they flicked over toward her next opponent. A twisted grin playing on her lips; ready to watch them all burn.

Chess Combat (Match 1)

Everything happened quickly. Too quickly. Another shot of flames sprouted out of the end of one of the Viper´s wands and hit Rodion. And he wasn´t there to save him this time. Milo bit down on his lip, hard enough to make it bleed. I failed him. I failed as team captain. This is where we all die. He had enough sense to move from the onslaught of potential spells but the fire still burned his robes, slowly making their way up his arm, the heat becoming more than uncomfortable now, it was painful, but bearable,Playing as iNPC Milosh Rehnquist
He´d grit his teeth, jaw flexing at the outcome of the round. He had put their team in this position and he´d have to figure out how to get them out of it. One way or another. Milo would sigh and rub his brow before collecting himself again. They would have to fight an uphill battle now. But it wasn´t impossible. Just a bit hard.

That was better. Cool relief flooded through her, taking the edge off the pain. With it, the frustration quelled, negated by the spark of satisfaction from a successful spell. She shouldn't have felt much of anything towards her spell working as that was what was supposed to happen, but perhaps she needed the boost from seeing she was capable. It was helpful, too, that she had no incoming spells to contend with, the Rook across from her producing nothing more than sparks for the second time in a row. She imagined that wasn't a very nice feeling, though in a competition such as this one, she had no time for pity.
We can still take this back. Santario's words, and where a minute ago she could hardly believe them, now she could see they were indeed turning the tides. For a while there they'd been struggling, she and Santario nearly falling, but they'd held on, clawed their way back, and now they could truly fight back. With the enemy Queen on fire and retreating, the first opponent fell.
She watched quietly as he was carried off. It was vicarious relief to see him extinguished, both because being on fire was terrible and she wasn't thrilled with their use of fire. She understood it, yes. The other team was doing it, too, and they easily could have chosen to continue to heal the Rook, so setting him aflame forced them to chose, perhaps prevented them from keeping him in. It just didn't feel great. But this was a big deal. Five versus four? Even if she doubted it would be as pronounced a difference as in a two on two duel, being up a player was an advantage.
The brief pause was now over, and Bridget had fully returned to measured breaths and a ready position. Perhaps it was the healing, perhaps the fact things were now looking up, this return of energy to her system. She felt she finally had the time again, even if it was a brief few seconds, to scan the board and act on more than instinct, to play chess with some of the corresponding strategic thought. This was their issued challenge to the international students, was it not?

Ileen's high and also guilty feeling was of short duration. Yes, she had hit the Queen of the other team. Yes, he was still aflame. However, something in her seemed to resist attacking him again. Her next spell succeeded effortlessly, but instead of hitting the boy, it shot in the direction of a girl and missed her by quite a bit..
Ileen gritted her teeth in frustration. She knew what she would do when she got back to Hogwarts. Practice aiming. Apparently, she really had a problem with that. Maybe it was her mental block not to inflict damage as a healer-to-be...? Anyway. Now was not the time to philosophize about it.
But at least they had managed to take out one of the opposing team. And that gave her new hope.
