Chess Combat (Match 3)

Blood for blood. Well... Almost. Kind of. More spells were flying across the field and well... it was not even that surprising that most of them were aimed at Percival, the one from their team who had visibly been hit the most often. But Hanako on the other side also did not do bad, ridding the opponent team of one of their members. "Alright then... Game on.", Opeila murmured to herself, watching the Durmstrang girl that was still standing near her.

While she had promised not to miss on her next attack, that next opportunity wouldn't quite be arriving so quickly for Greta. She was starting to feel the wear of the match. Most of the damage she had sustained was from the boy's early success right out of the gait, but with the sprint turning into a marathon, adrenaline had begun to fade and she was starting to feel the soreness of those bruises where she'd landed. This was a test of fortitude, she had to remind herself. As much as she ached to get into a position that would allow her to legally try out her dual casting once again, she had to survive long enough to get to that point. Once again, the dark-haired girl at an angle to her took a cast. This time, Greta was more than ready for her.
Opting to withhold from looking for offensive opportunities, she took a defensive stance, crouching slightly to make her profile smaller and harder to hit, eyes trained on the casters searching for the cue to dodge. When the spell came, she was ready, ducking easily out of the way. It wasn't a bad cast by any means. Greta was just the quicker. The same could not be said of some of the other participants, however. Nearby, it seemed the boy who'd been so focused on her all match had finally had enough. She caught his retreating steps, the sign of an attempt to reposition. A smart move, if they'd been able to pull it off. He would have been protected while still being able to sling spells from behind the cover of his companion. He never made it. Light from her own companions struck him squarely, sending him careening to the ground.
"You sleep now.." Greta muttered quietly, bowing her head as he was collected off the grid as a show of respect for just how long he had endured. He might have been the opponent and in need of being vanquished, but she wouldn't ignore just how frightening it would have been to be in his position batting at the flames as he had been. The medicated rest he would no doubt soon experience would be well deserved.
He wasn't the only one to go down, though. Across on the opposite side of the board, a thump had heralded the untimely demise of one of her own. It was a dreadful loss and Greta felt it keenly in the pit of her stomach. A loss for a loss should have been fair. But that was hardly the way Greta felt. Brows pinched and cheeks puffed with resolve. They would pay for the hurt they'd instilled. It was only a matter of time now. The queen was cornered, and while another had taken the place of the boy, she would no doubt soon take her own fall. Fingers grasping tightly around the handle of her polished wand, Greta readied herself for what was next to come.

[font=Monotype Corsiva]Enzo's eyes trailed the boy he had flipendoed alongside Yefim as he hit the floor. What a synchronous pair the two of them had turned out to be, the serpents could only dream of such teamwork.
Anyway, knocking the boy out was clearly the right thing to do since he was obviously suffering from all the previous hits. And who wouldn't in their right minds want to help end someone's misery? Espically when there is also something to gain Though nevertheless, the flimsy worms had the nerve to send them scornful looks. Tch What pricks.
It only registered after that an ally of his, in the meantime, had also been taken out. His icy glare couldn't help but immediately lock onto the girl's attacker.
"Did you want my attention that badly monsieur?" He asked the boy who was now standing directly in front of him, purposely not making a point to try and hide the contempt that laced his voice. Seriously, wink boy didn't need to put on such a performance and go as far as taking out an associate just to try to get Enzo to notice him, he could have just asked for his name. But to each his own I suppose.

Chess Combat (Match 3)
Poor Percival had finally fallen. Piper winced in secondhand pain as an unadmittedly stellar Flipendo took out the boy. Of course, this gave way into the realization that Piper was now exposed to the mercy of the entire board. This didn't last long, however, as Starlee stepped in front of Piper once again. Oh, good. Piper couldn't help but stare at the person the Vipers had managed to take out -- would she herself be knocked out and look like that? Not if she or the team could help it. The whole self-esteem positivity thing was growing harder by the minute as the opposing side continued to close in with their merciless spelling.
Her own Flipendo had sailed right past the titan who looked like he'd love to pummel her into a grease spot -- Piper refused to believe it was nerves and instead blamed her failure on the distractions of the other players being knocked out.Doing as strategized

"Extinguo," Roberta canted, her wand shortly after emitting a mist to smother the flames consuming Lovanna. It was not enough to save her, and so the referee stepped in to escort her to wherever it was fallen students were being cared for. Roberta would not give the instigating boy any of the satisfaction that came with shooting an angry look his way. Instead she grit her teeth and resolved to honor Lovanna's sacrifice.

Even if his team had lost a team member, Yefim was more than ready to keep fighting for the victory; he aimed his wand in Starlee's direction, but instead of aiming for her he went for the floor right beneath her feet; his Lubricus successfully made the floor incredibly slippery, and Starlee would have a difficult time dodging the spells coming at her. Yefim wasn't the only one focused on taking Starlee down; all his other teammates had decided to cast their Flipendos at her. Greta's and Enzo's spells hit the girl without any problem, while Roberta's only partially did; because of this, the Slytherin girl was sent one cell back in A2, looking quite close to fainting.
The Viridian Vipers were as ready to fight as their opponents, but they didn't have much luck. Opeila tried to set Greta on fire, but she must have been distracted by something, because she didn't manage to cast her spell. Piper suffered an even worse fate; she had successfully cast her Flipendo, but instead of sending it towards Yefim, the spell backfired and hurt her, dealing quite some damage. Hanako was the only one to successfully cast his spell, but the Slytherin luck ended there, because Enzo managed to avoid the fire spell and came out unharmed.
As she watched the duel, Lydia couldn't help but feel sorry for the Slytherin team; of course she was impartial in this, she was there co-moderating the match, but it still hurt to see Hogwarts' team suffer like that.

Chess Combat (Match 3)
This round couldn't have gone any worse if Starlee had tried. While she was prepared to dodge the oncoming attacks, it seemed they all knew it too, as the large Durmstrang boy sent the slippery spell right to her feet. 'Oh no...' She tried to keep her foothold strong, but she was hit squarely twice with two flipendos, and then one that barely hit her. All four of them had ganged up on her. She was quickly and easily pushed back to where she had stood previously, leaving Piper directly in the open.
Piper had also somehow managed to backfire her spell, which wasn't like her. As much as she despised her, she wasn't sure she would be able to rub this in the girls face. At least not with how she was feeling currently.
She was feeling tired. Weak. Three flipendo's one right after the other would definitely take its toll on you. She managed to stay standing, ready to do what it took to win. She would keep trying no matter what.

After staring the queen down, Yefim's wand would lower, right to the floor.
”Lubricus.”
Now that they were right where they wanted them, best to make sure they weren't going to get away. In another life, Yefim might have been an incredible duelist, his mother was an accomplished practitioner of the Dark Arts. She was top of her class when she had attended Durmstrang, even though she had to overcome great hardship to do so. For a small moment, he wondered if his mother felt the same way speaking Russian as he did speaking English.
The diversion was unwelcome, he was on the cusp of victory. Just as he wanted, the slippery floor made the blond a fish in a barrel, getting hit and slid out of the way. Unpredicted though was that the revealed Queen behind her had her own spell blow up in her face, hurting herself. Now this was proof of his awesome power. Clearly now he was on the right path, the demon inside him was perfectly pleased.

Now it was her duty to either press on despite their losses or give up the advantage and risk letting them close the gap by playing defensive. Doing her best to block the image of Lovanna falling out of her mind yet simultaneously taking her nobility to heart, the witch canted a slightly rattled, "Flipendo." Most unusual for her, a blue light flashed out from her wand instead of a red one, and it began winding its way towards her intended target with precision.
At the last second, the pulse seemed to shift midair. Although it appeared to have struck, though not fully, Roberta imagined giving the opposing team's Queen what she thought might be similar feeling to the one she had. The feeling of seeing those around her collapse from exhaustion. Truth be told, their bishop didn't look much better off than those she was avenging. Still, a merciful forfeiture was not something anyone expected playing this kind of game.

INTERACTIONS @Percival Gray | MENTIONING @Opeila Winters, @Piper Clark, @Starlee Kennedy, @Lovanna Slovan de Sau

They were closing in on the final moments of the game. She could feel it. Gradually, her team had been gaining the momentum. Although fatigue and soreness were heavy on both sides, there was a palpable contrast to their moods. Morale seemed to be draining steadily from their opponents. It was evident in the way that their spells began to fail and their faces began to show the lines of worry and desperation. In contrast, although their own team had sustained a heavy loss in the form of Lovanna, they were consistently repositioning for the advantage. Greta's confidence continued to mount, and with the boy gone, that left only the dark-haired girl as a threat. But even with her still on the board, there were other priorities.
A girl had stepped in to take the boy's position. Given that she blocked her queen, she had to go. And Greta was particularly suited to deal with her. "Flipendo!" Light streaked from the Norwegian's wand straight towards her and struck squarely. She hardly stood a chance. In fact, she really hardly stood at all. With the ground as slippery as it was, Greta watched as she struggled for footing and was forcefully propelled back as the spells connected.
The file had been opened and the Hogwarts queen now faced their own triple battery. What was worse... the spell she'd attempted to cast had backfired. Wincing as it impacted, Greta battled with the mixed emotions that raged within her mind. On the one hand, victory was almost at hand. A few well-placed spells, and they could potentially take down the queen as easily as they dealt with this girl just now. On the other hand... it seemed like the Hogwarts' duellists had been struggling mightily from the beginning.
Was it just nerves? Were they that ill-educated that this was the best they could do? Was luck not on their side? Perhaps the Gods were shining down on the little valkyrie today? Or was there tampering on the side? There would be no answers found to any of the possibilities that swam circles in her psyche; and really, it shouldn't matter, she reflected. Whatever the reason, life wouldn't stop in the moment of a battle to ensure the circumstances were fair. You either did, or did not. You lived, or you died. You won. Or you lost.
And Hogwarts was going to get a lesson in humility.
