Chess Combat (Match 1)
A look of intense concentration was on Alexander's face. Right now he was in an ideal position for a certain course of action, but it was one that required his full concentration. If his full concentration was not there, then there could be terrible results. Something that Alexander knew quite well, having experienced it several times whilst trying to master his unorthodox technique.
Regardless, this time the technique seemed to go perfectly. With a frown on his face, Alexander shouted. "Incendio". With satisfaction he saw how the fire seemed to split in two, creating two beams going towards his opponents. One that seemed to hit a dark haired boy fully in the chest. Sadly, one of his opponents only received a glancing blow. But that was good enough for him.
Now, time for another bout of action.

Missed, again. This is not good. He was so close to end the Slytherin and now he was back to square one while her teammates started to throw the healing spells her way. Luck had left the match, nowhere to be seen. He hated feeling like the most incompetent person. What would people say about him if losing will be his fate? But the match isn’t over yet. Only time would tell who is worthy to be in the pedestal

Alisa didn't know whether to be relieved that nobody had really attempted to hit her with a spell yet or exasperated by useless she was really being in this duel. Sure, she'd gotten in one good hit on one of the Slytherin students, but otherwise had more or less simply moved or stood around. Patience wasn't her virtue. She could be patient if she absolutely had to, but it didn't look good on her. She was too temperamental to simply be one of thoese people that sat at the sidelines and watched while the action was a happening.RPing as iNPC Alisa Sokolova.

While the match had been frought with misses, this round, things would take a turn for the interesting. Rodion in particular would experience a bombardment, struck by a Flipendo from both Santario and Alexander. His Flipendo meant for Santario went wide. For a moment, the match flashed before his eyes, and it seemed he would be the first to fall. However, Milosh saved him with a swift Reparifors. If only he wasn't still on fire. He came back from the brink as the last of the blaze fizzled out, clinging to consciousness. The wizard was so preoccupied with sustaining his teammate that he failed to avoid an Incendio Duo from Ileen. Illowy sustained Santario with a succesful Reparifors, but in the same breath, Bridget's attempt at healing herself backfired bizarrely. What should have been a wave of relief was instead a stinging sensation, as though she had taken a tumble through a nettle bush. On the opposing team, Jan's Flipendo for Bridget failed to fire. Alisa took advantage of the chaos, moving to the next space while the others battled, and Karilyna succeeded in extinguishing herself.

Well it seemed Lady Luck had just ran out. A blaze of fire formed out the tip of the girl diagonal from him and this time it successfully connected. A sharp pang hit him as fire cackled in his ear. Crap that was bad. He'd let out a small grunt of disapproval, although he couldn't complain much as others had been hit far worse than him. Speaking of..Playing as iNPC Milosh Rehnquist
Milo turned his gaze towards the rest of the board in time to see Rodion get nailed by two flippendos. Jeez this poor kid could not seem to get a break. Luckily he made the right decision and healed him else the boy would be unconscious. "Take it easy, I know you probably feel like crap, or maybe can't even hear me but you've done good kid." Milo spoke softly to the boy, a pang of guilt hitting him. Hell it would be a miracle if he survived another round. He had to give props to the boy though, he withstood a lot of spells and was still standing, er kind of.
The blonde gritted his teeth, pissed off at the other team for hurting the boy. It was dueling after all, but that didn't keep his blood from boiling. Speaking of boiling, it was pretty hot. Milo turned to see his sleeve on fire and nearly jumped. Well he was put in a hard place now. The boy closed his eyes. Think.. what can you do for your team.. what's the best course of action now, the game is getting closer..

Even breathless and slowly regaining her bearings, she could do the math. Another hit like that... she wasn't sure she'd be able to take it. Her limits were already being tested, the mere act of assuming a duelling stance painful. Alexander was not fully covered, but she could not be that cover for him. Not right now.
There was a way to get herself there, though. One being utilized by Illowy at that very moment, pulling Santario back from the brink. The Healing Spell. She could do that. Had done it before in a duel, even, courtesy of her backfired Curse of the Bogies. "Reparifors." The incantation came out in a sort of gasp, rather rushed because she could hear the Rook incanting another Flipendo and she knew she'd have to get her spell off before his could impact. She wasn't wrong about that, but she should have taken a bit longer, stressed care to the detail of the cast. His spell didn't even leave his wand, besides.
Instead of the anticipated relief, it stung. "Ow!" It wasn't even that painful, a tiny fraction of being knocked flat on her back. More so the failure elicited frustration, evident in the exclamation and hard to curb when things were already not going so well. She'd worked so hard all year, practicing and practicing to make sure this sort of thing didn't happen, that she didn't make a mistake and cost her team, but here she was, failing. Unable to count on her casting. And now both Bishops had an unobstructed shot at Alexander. Failing indeed.
The rest of her team was doing far better, at least. Santario and Alexander had the other Rook rocking from two Flipendos, just barely saved by his Queen's cast of a much more successful Reparifors. The Queen was then set aflame by an Incendio Duo from Ileen. Admittedly, Bridget had come to largely avoid fire, duelling or otherwise, though it seemed to get considerable use in duelling. Another problem you forced your opponents to weigh, she supposed. With the assessment of the board, she reminded herself they weren't yet losing. They were fine, in fact, and perhaps the sting of her failed spell had poked at her mental fortitude, but she would push through, keep giving her best. For her team.

Chess Combat (Match 1)

A bout of successful flipendos flew through the air, her own and Alexanders. She watched them collide with Rodion in a sick satisfaction. She wondered how much he would keep running his mouth now that he was in the same position she had been in not too long ago. “We can still take this back, guys. Remember all that we’ve practiced.” The light that healed Rodion was also the same she had experienced not too long ago, which meant he should be down, but he wouldn’t be. When Ileen’s jet of fire struck home, a slight smirk played on her lips as the opponent’s queen lit aflame regardless of how much she hated the use of fire in duels. Her eyes would quickly survey the field, noting where everyone else had placed themselves.

Ileen squinted her eyes and quickly scanned the battlefield. A battlefield. That was how it felt like. There were so many spells thrown at the other team on each side that it was really hard for her to keep an overview over the events.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw santario, who was still standing and also no longer burning. That was good. But she should not get too distracted by her own team. They had a clear strategy and Ileen didn’t even dream about messing that up.
She resolutely brushed a strand of hair out of her dark eyes and instinctively took a stiff stance - a posture that enabled her to react quickly. She exhaled through clenched teeth and tried to ignore the throbbing pain, aiming carefully.
This time the flames found their target. Ileen barely flinched as her opponent's robe caught fire. A mixture of relief and disgust flooded through her. She remembered all too well the stinging pain those flames caused. But that was the game.

Exhaustion. That was the situation he was in. Maybe it was a karma slap him on the face, now the Slytherin seemed to be raining on his previous parade. A failure is what you are. Not only you tainted the Makarovich name, you caused a permanent damage to your sister, and now you can't even win a duel? A disappointment. The voice of his father ringed inside his head, pounding, echoing, making it harder to focus. He closed his eyes for a moment and tried to calm himself down. Breathe in, breathe out. I have to win. There is no other choice.
