Elowen Bird — First year - Ravenclaw

Backstory/history:

Elowen was born a half-blood, both by genes and by raising. Her mother was a witch, her father a random muggle sperm donor. Her family from birth was also half blood — one witch, her biological mother, who’s family had been pure blood, Laura Bird, and one muggle, Jane Bird, neé Green, who had dreamed of being a witch since she was a very little girl. Laura had been an only child; and when she had married a muggle, the Birds had perhaps been slightly dissatisfied that their line ended.

They, however, at least acted accepting, and soon came to truly love Jane, who was kind and charismatic and poignant, and dutifully studied the Wizarding world, even though she could never be a part of it.

Both had hoped that Elowen would turn out a witch; they tried to hide it, not wanting to put pressure on her, but Laura longed to have someone who she could talk to magic in the hols, as her
mother had talked to her; and Jane just wanted to be that little step closer to the Wizarding world.

Elowen lived a quiet, innocent life in Haworth. She didn’t do much in particular. Go horse-riding; read books; go to school; beg her parents to buy her a horse; research historical things, especially the Brontë’s, in whose village she was absurdly proud to live in. Her greatest goal in life, to be completely honest, was to get good enough at riding and stable management to get a pony of her own.

Her first incident of magic happened at about the Christmas-time when she was eight years old. She had only started riding in May, and was in a stable tacking up a cross little Welsh pony. She was struggling awfully with the girth; it was stiff, and her hands were numb, and the pony was not being cooperative.

Then, quite out of the blue, the girth had done up of itself! Elowen had spent that riding lesson very confused, but when she told her mothers about it, they made no attempts to conceal their delight.
