Unpacking friendship with @Selina Knight

“It’ll all get figured out,” he assured her, and hoped maybe things wouldn’t be as bad as they seemed for her. “Have any aunts or uncles? That’s what happened with me to have a guardian. I’ve got my aunt Maggie and she’s more than absolutely wonderful,” Simon smiles. He had been grateful to spend time with her that month between school and summer camp.

“One of her friends taught me the guitar. No formal lessons. Same with all the other instruments. I guess one could attribute it all to the fact that I’ve got a lot of free time on my hands.” He couldn’t go outside really most days - not for very long, and he only slept about every three nights. That was his normal.

He then watched as she began unpacking in the bunk beside him and he smiled, glad he might have someone to talk to if she couldn’t sleep either. “The cabin? It’s alright. I mean, it's really nice but it’s awfully bright. I wish they’d done it down a little; being in a bit more of a natural feel.”

She unpacked her stuffed koala and he smiled at the sight of it…not in a teasing or mocking way but rather that it seemed great to have something like that around when needed.

Nate scratched the back of his head, the school systems of Hogwarts and Koldovstoretz were very different and explaining everything would take some time. There was time, but he didn't want to scare off his first new acquaintance with boring facts and decided to keep it as short as possible. "Um, yeah, it's kind of more complicated than you guys here." He laughed uncertainly before elaborating further on the subject. "We are not divided by age in years but by groups. The groups are age independent and based on magical ability." As difficult as Nate was with small talk and new acquaintances it was going okay for now. "But to put it in perspective, or rather to put me in perspective, I'm 12, so I think I'd be a second year at Hogwarts, right?" he asked further. Few would guess Nate was 12, he was tall, muscular and looked a lot older than 12. In fact, he hated that he was still so young and could never wait until he finally got another year older.

But enough about Nate, after all, a good conversationalist didn't just talk about himself, but was also interested in the person he was talking to. "And you? What year are you?" he now inquired curiously but guessed that she was a little older than him. He remembered the houses and quickly expanded his question before she would answer him. "And what house are you in? Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw? Did I list them all correctly?" he laughed again, hoping he hadn't put his foot in his mouth.

He took a quick look around the cabin and surveyed the new faces, all of whom seemed to have settled in by now, sitting on their bunks or chatting. It seemed that the next month could be a nice experience after all and Nate visibly relaxed, trying to put aside his negative views towards Hogwarts, after all, the students here couldn't help what had happened at the Ball either. Many of them had been affected by it themselves and now there was a month to make up for what had happened. "Do you participate in any activities here?"he asked Bloom. He had heard of a barbecue, a lake party as well as Truth or Dare and Spin the bottle. He would still be careful with the drinks and food but the lake party and Spin the bottle sounded good to him.

Dhampir are you? Selina asked Simon curiously knowing the signs of a 0f a Dhampir.
I have one Aunt and three uncles but I don't see my uncles only my aunt Lucy. Selina announced to Simon.

But Selina happened to agree with Simon despite not being a Dhampir herself she did agree it was quite bright she would have liked them to tone down the light a bit instead of it being so bright in there.

It was a very creative cabin though Selina had to say it was very interesting in it's own way. Selina had been quite dark her whole life and she was always in the darkness of the sky or her room, so she wasn't used to all of this light.

She had her hair down, and she looked down at her favourite pair of shoes. Some people probably thought her outfit was a very nice outfit but Selina liked it.

She often wore lipstick and this time it was a black lipstick, she was also wearing a black jacket. She usually had the hood up but surprisingly she was comfortable so she had it down. She was happy just talking to Simon, but she really missed her girlfriend, Paige Grant. They had just started dating and Selina always missed Paige if they were separated.

She tried to go through the pain of missing her but it never seemed to work she just missed Paige so much.

He'd be lying if he said he was enjoying summer camp already.

Moving back to Hogwarts was not nearly as fun the second year in a row, but the reason was clearer when he considered that this was the second time this summer he had moved. Sylvain was tired of packing and unpacking! First he had made the journey from his foster parents to his Uncle's house. This move had not only proved to be a perilous journey but was also just a good time and much needed vacation. Now that he had moved from his Uncle's to Thestral cabin, an odd place nearly invisible to the naked eye, he couldn't help but wonder; what next? The longer he lingered on the idea, the clearer it was. He would have to move from his cabin to the castle.

Even his thoughts were exhausting!

Luckily for him, checking the list of occupants had left him wiser to the fact that two people whom he loved dearly would be spending the summer in close quarters with him. This news filled him with hope and served as plenty enough reason to look forward to his time at summer camp. The feeling was almost like the weight of his various moves had been lifted from his shoulders. Sylvain no longer felt tired of moving, he just felt tired in general. Willow and Flash were his best friends, and spending their nights goofing off was probably going to be the closest he got to familiar stability for awhile. To say he was looking forward to summer camp already would be true.

The one thing however that lingered in the back of his mind. It was the notion that on the first day of camping, there was a tendency for something to go horrifically wrong. This wasn't some kind of major assumption about the world at large, or an example of painting the world with a broad stroke, but instead a malignant paranoia fueled by his knowledge and steeped in his experiences. Even just the few muggle camping trips he had the pleasure of going on had similarly exhausting scenarios. To think that Wizard camping brought with it an even higher potential for disaster made his heart leap up into his throat, though he would choke it back down with some self-assurance when he saw the familiar faces he'd be living with.

Recognizing Bloom and Selina, only because both on the Quidditch team, Sylvain gave them a bright smile. Despite being their co-captain, he hadn't really had a chance to connect with them yet. "Good to see you two here," he said cheerfully. After them, he spotted Pericles and Willow, talking about books. Sylvain would acknowledge Pericles with a smile and nod. Quite a bit of time had passed in the while since the two had gone on an adventure together, but he enjoyed the memories they shared. "Peri," Syl said to accompany the nod. Willow of course got a good, tight, hug. "Willow," he said softly. Lastly, he gave a silent but friendly wave to those he was unfamiliar with. He was quiet, not shy. "I'm Sylvain, but please call me Syl if you want my attention." He would smile, memorize any names he got back, and excuse himself for only feeling up to such a brief introduction.

After quickly making his way to his room the lad found he place to his liking and unpacked almost everything he had brought with him. Why was it that he had to pack like a travelling diva? The majority having been put away, he decided his potion making components could wait in the trunk for awhile longer as none of them were volatile. Once the unpacking was finished, he spread himself out on his bunk to take a nap, but before his eyes would close his curiosity got the best of him. Jolting up, he popped his shoes back on his feet and made for the common area in a hurry. Napping would just have to wait. Finding his way back to Willow and Pericles, Sylvain looked suddenly worried. It was happening. Something was going to go horrifically wrong, he could just feel it.

He only had one question for the two of them:Have either of you seen Flash?

Flash was not in a hurry. His summer had been one stressful thing after the other, and he was glad to be away from it. That was, away from his family. The older he got, the more uncertain he was of any of his preconceived notions about them, even though he was certain he knew them better than anyone else. At least he was returning this year in better condition than the last. The weight of that situation had been given time to sink in, and the people involved had been given the opportunity to try to explain themselves. In the end, it wasn't really his problem. He had his own problems, like the black blood and the mysterious students linked to it. No more fussing about his worries and problems, he had tangible things to work on, a world to improve. Certainly that would make all his bad feelings go away.

For the most part, Flash was happy. At Hogwarts, he didn't have to go far to find friends, and most of them we close and treasured. He delighted in seeing Willow again, delighted spending a few days at the end of the summer with Sylvain. It was even better that all three of them were in a summer cabin together, almost like a dream. After traveling together, Flash offered to take Willow's bags with him, and took his sweet time gathering them. He wasn't at all in a rush to have the summer be over, not now that he was in a place where he would enjoy it. He tried to empty his mind, like he did when his brother went out hunting and he got a moment of peace. He listened closely to the sounds of nature, the hum of the air, paid attention to the feeling of the sun on his skin. He wondered if Sylvain and Willow might like to fly around on their brooms a bit later. With such a warm day, it would be nice to feel the breeze in their hair.

It was these entrancing idle thoughts that had him distracted, looking around at everything that was going on around him. He would take a while to finally get to the cabin they were assign, laughing as if tickled to see that it appeared only when he came close. Even more enchanting was the moment he walked in and closed the door, realizing that none of the noises from outside could penetrate the cabin. Honestly, he would pay good money to have a house of his own like this. It hit a spot deep in his stomach of gratitude that he ended up somewhere to sleep that was actually comfortable. Lord, he almost wanted to cry. Perhaps he was feeling a bit overly emotional.

He brought the luggage over to where Willow was, who was seemingly engaged in conversation with Sylvain and Pericles. He'd set her things down as well as his own. He'd look around appreciating the décor if he wasn't immediately yelled at and tackle hugged (not likely), but the first thing he'd do would be to sigh pleasantly.

"Hello~" He'd call in a sing-song voice.

Willow was rocking back and forth on her heels, unable to keep her excitement about everything beginning once again inward. Her attention was struggling to stay on Pericles as her eyes continually darted to the entrance for the arrival of new friends. But at the mention of duelling she practically fluffed up with excitement. “We’re finally gonna learn healing spells too! A bit weird, isn’t it? That we learn a whole bunch of injury creating spells but no healing spells until year three?” She shrugged it off, the thought gone just as soon as it came. “I would love the harvesting one! I’ve been wanting to do more research on that anyway. It’s like you read my mind! I have a more in depth book about the Wheel of the Year if you’d like that, or a new ritual book?” The knowledge swapping relationship she had with Pericles was one that she cherished greatly.

When Sylvain finally arrived she was pulled into a warm hug that she returned with calm enthusiasm. Hugging her friends always made her feel like the common room did, safe. Warm. Home. “Welcome to the coolest cabin filled with the coolest people Syl!” She threw up a peace sign to show just how cool she was. Her head tilted when he asked where Flash was after introducing himself to the rest of the cabin. “You didn’t see him with my bags? He offered to take them for me. I’m sure he’ll be here soon!” She offered Syl a bright smile. She didn’t know if he was worried about him making it at all, or somehow being kidnapped by some darkness that lurked even at the campgrounds. But Willow knew he was a competent wizard, one that would stubbornly fight to the death before he abandoned Willow’s bags like the gentleman he was.

It didn’t take long after all the new hugs and hellos for Flash himself to walk through the cabin doors. While he was taking in the scene, and even though Willow had seen him not even ten minutes ago, it didn’t stop their new traditional greeting. “FlashhHHHHH!!!” The poor eardrums of everyone in the near vicinity as she nearly screeched his name like a banshee and hugged him with a running start, with as much force as the stampede in Lion King. Luckily he was used to it and kept them upright easily. “You made it! I think Syl was worried you had died.” Her smile was delightfully cheeky as she released from her brother’s arms and looked back at the two friends at the other end of the cabin.

This was going to be a good, no a GREAT, summer. She could feel it in her feel good fuzzy bones.
