An Eventful Stroll
"Geez, sure is chilly around here. I should have brought my wool coat with me," Tachi muttered to herself as she padded out into the castle grounds with her cloak flapping behind her in the cold morning air. The school year has officially started and it had been a rollercoaster of emotions trying to explain to her parents that she, in no possible way, talked the Sorting Hat out into making her the first Gryffindor in the family. She made sure to get up early today to familiarize herself with the castle while people were still asleep, much to her delight as she was not in the mood to make new friends yet.
As she made her way down a cobblestone path to the side of the castle, she took the time to bask in awe of how splendid Hogwarts actually is in person. Centuries worth of stone that had survived the Great Wizarding Wars and yet here it is, looking like it had never even been touched. She wondered what wonders were in store for her for the upcoming year for she, in fact, wanted to be the next Brightest Witch of her Age. But unfortunately, there were no Dark Lords quietly waiting in the shadows nor were there any gossips about mysterious creatures still roaming the castle as far as she knows.
She kicked random stones out of the way as she began to wonder what spells or potions she would be learning in class, taking into thought as well how she would be planning to balance her academics and social standing. She need not need to make herself stand out more to her professors, surely they would know her Father already. But her peers were a different story- is she going to be mysterious? a social butterfly? a pure-blooded know-it-all? The possibilities were simply endless, she could create a whole new persona depending on the circumstances that came her way.
She sat on one of the stone benches under the shade of a tree to watch the gentle creep of the morning sunlight envelope the stone bricks in a golden hue. She had already prepared herself mentally and academically, having read through half of her syllabus, making sure she was already advanced in her classes. "Maybe she could read "Hogwarts: A History" again during breakfast?" she made a mental note to herself.
She was too deep in her thoughts that she didn't notice another figure approaching from afar.

"First day of lessons." Fiona thought to herself as she stood in front of her mirror. With the sounds of the other girls in her dorm flooding her headspace. She was far too excited, for she had several hours to kill before her first lesson. " What a way to start the day." she thought. " With Muggle studies in the morning, and Herbology in the afternoon." she continued. She took a deep breath in and then exhaled with exaggeration and a smile—her gleaming auburn hair down for the first time since she arrived in the wizarding world. Fiona often wore her hair up when she wanted to focus or think more clearly. There was something about her long hair that oftentimes made her feel like her brain was weighted down. Nonetheless, she was ready for her day far too ahead of time. Fiona knew that she had time to spare and couldn't even think of eating because she was so excited. SO she could either wander the corridors or get some fresh air. It was the changing of seasons, after all. She might not get many more days to explore the grounds before or between her lessons. Fiona grabbed her Hogwarts scarf and a black knit beanie in hand before she exited her common room with all of that in mind.
While in the corridor, Fiona passed the great hall, which was notably vibrant and full of students and chatter. Breakfast smelt great, too good to pass up. So Fiona popped into the Great Hall and grabbed an apple muffin from one of the silver trays at her Hufflepuff table. The air was surprisingly chilly and not what she had expected. Scooting out of the room just as fast as she got in there, Fiona started heading towards the door. The door creaked open, and the Sunlight flooded the scene. Fiona couldn't help but squint her eyes and take a deep breath in. Just then, cough cough. The kind of unexpected cold that takes your breath away. With the realization that it was a bit colder than she expected, Fiona pulled her beanie over her smooth long hair and exited the school.
The wind had its way of shooting right up through her cloak to cool her body. Unexpected but not entirely terrible. Fiona began to follow a cobblestone path around the castle. Past the courtyard and before the groundskeeper's cabin. Fiona hadn't really learned too much about what had happened at the school during the wizarding wars of the '90s, but she did know that a lot had happened. " What a school." she thought to herself again. "I can't believe a grown man tried to fight teenagers, and we still kicked his arse." She giggled a bit. She hadn't really known the extremes that had occurred on the very grounds in which she walked on. She remained in her head while she traversed down the stone path towards the treeline.
The stones had gotten significantly older the further down she walked. " Oh, yeah you can really see where they had to rebuild." She said audibly in her Western Irish accent. " Or maybe these are just more weathered because they are at a slope?" she continued. Looking down at her feet she found herself walking under some shady trees. Beneath the trees Fiona noticed a young girl sitting on a stone bench. The girl seemed to be Fiona's age, maybe she recognized her from the sorting ceremony? "Go on, say Hello." she told herself. Fiona was never really one to shy away from an introduction, though she did seem to develop a bit of anxiety upon learning about her bloodline.
" Hey there," Fiona said as she walked up towards the girl. Mostly to not frighten the young girl but also to gain a sense of authority over her own nerves. " bit chilly out innit?" she continued.

The first day of classes.
After a rather eventful first day, Hui Ming had gotten up early and all but fled the Slytherin Dorms. He had had all he could stand of overwhelming oddities masquerading as humans, and required a little bit of time to center himself to face the upcoming day with the kind of poise that would be required from someone of his station.
His feet guided him absently, as his mind worked to process the overload of stimulus that was his experience with the magical world thus far.
The summer camp was a crash course of the wizarding world, of sorts. And the Chinese boy had come out of it distinctly unimpressed. There were precious few sane people in this world, and too many either did not understand the worldview of Muggleborns and fewer still who took a moment to properly internalize how scary or dangerous something as mundane as casting a spell was.
Ming came to a halt, snorting at his own thought process. As mundane as casting a spell, really? I appeared that he had started to get more used to the magicals than he initially thought. Perhaps it would not be that bad? He had Avery to fall back upon, and the boisterous boy could be a reliable friend when he was needed.
A gust of wind Perhaps he should try and make more friends? Miss Decipio and Avery was a woefully short list of allies to have in a new environment after all. A gust of cold wind shattered his ruminations.
His feet had brought him to the gates of the castle. Perhaps a quick walk in the morning? It was not the worst idea. . .
Not the worst way to start off the first day in Hogwarts proper.
A step. The another. And another. Hui Ming was down the stairway and onto the cobble pathway. It was a slow gait, as the bespectacled Chinese boy took in the atmosphere. Which way to go though?
The forest to the east, and the stadium to the west. Neither of those choices seemed particularly appealing though. The forest was called forbidden for a reason, and he failed to get the appeal of flying, really. When put like that, there was really only one choice: the cobblestone road that led south towards the lake.
A deep breath, and the Chinese boy was on his way down the empty road. Hui Ming took in more and more of the world with each slow, deliberate steps. This was happening. This was really happening. He was in Hogwarts, and would be for the next seven years.
How....vexing
Footsteps, as the young Slytherin wandered down the road, willing himself to have a fortuitous start to his time here in Hogwarts. Not that it was something he could quite control, given the explosive nature of half his peers. But he would at least have to put in the effort.
He had put a little more distance now between himself and the Castle proper. A part of him could not help but wonder what the new students (despite being a first year himself, he had been on the castle grounds for a whole month now, after all) would be like. Would they be rude and loud and obnoxious, or quiet and studious? Would they be prone to adventure and excitement, or would they see the dangers that lurked behind the bright colors of this school?
And what of him? Would they see him as conniving, just because he had ended up in green and not in blue? Why was he in Slytherin, anyway? He was not particularly sly or ambitious. He had no desire for power, or to trick people into getting his way. But the Hat had judged him to be a snake, the same as Schneider and Avery. And were they not a trio to speak of. Three more different people he could not think of! And yet they were in the same house, bound some invisible thread that was beyond Ming's comprehension.
More steps, and Ming meandered down towards nothing in general.
Did that mean that there were others in other houses that did not aspire to the purported values that they were assigned? Miss Foster was very much the stereotypical badger, quiet and helpful and sociable. But perhaps he would keep his eyes out for the animalities?
His feet had started dragging him somewhere again, he realized. And with that, Ming came to a stop. It would hardly do to get hopelessly lost before the first day of classes even began.
A moment of confused examination of his surroundings. He was not quite certain where he was, but the imposing castle really made losing oneself rather difficult in the school grounds. There was the lake, not too far way. More interestingly though, there were a couple of people up and about. One of them was sitting on a stone bench, while the other seemed to be wandering, much like himself.
Interesting.
Should he approach? There was hardly anything he had to say to them, and idle curiosity would only take him so far in a conversation. But then, what was the alternative? Wander pointlessly until worry and stress took a hold of him like some sort of infernal cancer?
But that wasn't right. Hadn't he just promised himself that he would go out of his way to keep an eye on the outsiders? A compromise, then.
This was the thought process that led to the bespectacled Slytherin boy approaching the others. Not with a spoken greeting, but rather a silent tipping of his head; a nod of acknowledgement for whoever happened to be looking in his direction
The curtains fell. And the silence was deafening

An Eventful Stroll
Dancelos did not know how long he had been here. He had left the common room before breakfast had even begun. He couldn't sleep thinking about tomorrow. And all the girls were so excited in the morning that they were getting ready before going to breakfast. There was a lot of noise, some were hired and talking about them. I think dancelos was the only one sleeping. Dancelos straightened his hair a little and put on his cloak, took yesterday's candies, and left the dorm, hoping I could sleep. The corridor was almost empty. He decided to go out. He was startled by the freezing cold when the doors opened. He actually wanted to sleep under a tree, but this freezing cold wouldn't allow it. Dancelos decided to take a ride. He didn't know where he was going, he was lost in his thoughts. The year was not going well. He wanted some excitement, considered taking the path to the forbidden forest, but didn't want to be expelled from school on the first day. He actually tried to talk to a few people but didn't want to be too candid, considering it racist as most of them were purebloods and Slytherins. He was also thinking about the lessons. He was very confused. To clear his mind, he decided to look at the ducks in the Great Lake. His sister told him that ducks are colorful and bright. He was curious about them. He really didn't know where he was going. He was going his own way. While searching for the lake, he saw the sidewalks next door. He decided to continue on the sidewalks. Just when he was about to lose hope, he saw the lake. He was about 15 meters from her. On the way to the lake, he noticed three people on the stone bench next to him. They were like first class. It turned out that one of the crests on his cloak was Gryffindor, one was Hufflepuff, and one was Slytherin. I approached them and said, "Hi, are you first class too?"[/i]

Tachi's thoughts were suddenly interrupted when she smelled a whiff of freshly baked muffin, with hints of cinnamon and green apples. She heard her stomach grumbling and squinted her eyes up to see the source of the smell. A Hufflepuff- and a first-year at that- based on the yellow lining inside her cloak. Her red-almost orange hair glowing golden under the warmth of the morning sun.Interacting with: Fiona Sheehan | Hui Ming | Dancelos Grey
"Hey there," she said. "Bit chilly out innit?"
Tachi nodded in agreement as she hugged her cloak tighter, trying to hide the growing hunger in her stomach for having skipped the breakfast hall on the way out. Tachi rarely had interactions with kids her age because her parents never really took her out of the house except to attend social events. Even if there were kids, she wasn't allowed to spare more than a single glance and a small smile towards them as an acknowledgment of their presence. Determined not to mess up her first-ever interaction with another, she attempted to make small talk.
"What's your name?"
"I'm Fiona Sheehan. And you?"
"Right. Einar. Tachi Einar."
Their small talk lasted for a few minutes until Tachi noticed another person walking from afar. Tachi glanced towards the direction of the young man approaching them, who looked somewhat lost and surprised at how he got there in the first place.
"Looks like we aren't the only morning people around here", Tachi said with a small nod as the Slytherin tipped his head towards them.
There were 3 of them now. Great. This wasn't exactly how she imagined her first day would be, Hogwarts was too big for people trying to look for each other but too small for people trying to avoid other people. She then shifted her attention to the new addition to the group and introduced herself, the Hufflepuff beside her did the same. They asked each other their schedules for the day and found she shared a few classes with them.
3 heads snap simultaneously to the side when they heard another voice ask, "Hi, are you first-class too?"
They all nodded their head and shifted their places to accommodate the new Slytherin into their group.
"Seriously? How many more people are gonna join the party?" Tachi chuckled to herself.

One's body clock was a fascinating thing.
Geoffrey and his dad started going on morning runs earlier that summer when he expressed an interest in possibly taking up football, so now he was used to sleeping a bit earlier and getting up earlier to go for that run. But here at Hogwarts there was no way he could do that. There was a rule about it - you couldn't leave the dorms too early, so Geoffrey already knew that he wouldn't have time to go for a proper run, get cleaned up, have breakfast, and then get to his first class on time. Still, it didn't seem as though his body was caught up despite his knowing this.
He woke up extra early anyway, so he spent a bit of time just lying in bed reading (sort of...not really) one of his new textbooks and wondering about what his new life would be like here. So far it'd been okay-ish encounters with everyone around, but he doubted it'd be that way forever. He couldn't be friends with everybody, after all. He already tried that once; he wound up with a black eye and eating a mouthful of sand because of Jeremy Grand, who thought he was way too nosy for his own good.
What caused that misunderstanding? He asked a stupid question, thinking it would break the ice.
He was lucky he didn't break his nose.
And what about class? Would the subjects be at all similar to the ones he knew from his old school? Didn't seem likely. The book he had out (clearly just for decoration because he wasn't able to focus enough to actually read it) was titled Magical Theory. Definitely not in any school curriculum in his town, he was certain of that. But would they teach maths and other common subjects along with all the new, magical ones? He lay there wondering for what felt like ages, asking every possibly question his eleven-year-old brain could come up with, until eventually the clock showed a time that he knew wasn't going to break any rules. At that point he got out of bed, got dressed, grabbed his things and headed down for some breakfast.
He continued to wonder about the people around him as he went, giving the occasional passing "hello" when he noticed someone else in the corridor and smiling awkwardly whether the greeting was returned or not. He really hated being new and not knowing anyone or knowing anything about...well, anything. And it wasn't even just that the people were new. Literally everything was new, right down to having to use an old-fashioned quill and parchment to take notes instead of a notebook like he did back home. It might as well have been a whole new world!
"It is a whole new world, you idiot," he sighed to himself, apparently loud enough for the two girls that were walking just a few paces behind him to notice. He heard them giggle, watched as they hurried past him and looked over their shoulders, and then heard them giggle some more. He sighed again and hurried along, soon coming upon the Great Hall.
The selection of food, and the amount of it, brought a smile right to his face. He let his thoughts fall away and focused on the food instead; he grabbed some fruit, hard boiled eggs, some strips of bacon, a few muffins, and some water before heading back out. The chattering was way too loud for that time of the morning. He wondered then, as he left it all behind him in favor of a quiet moment to enjoy his breakfast on the grounds, if the chatter was only that loud because of the nature of the Great Hall. Large, grand, made of age-old stone.
"Yeah, that makes sense," he murmured to himself, far too focused on his thoughts that he barely noticed the cold as he went along in search of a bench.
Geoffrey found one, though it wasn't exactly ideal for enjoying breakfast on his own so he could gather his thoughts a bit. There were four others already there, apparently making conversation. Was this a sign, maybe, that he ought to start early with the whole trying to make friends thing? And if so, should he follow it? How hard could it be to make friends here, even if he was always awkward at the start?
With a silent, dry gulp he made his way over.
"Morning," he greeted, looking from one face to the next. He vaguely recognized them from the Sorting Ceremony, but he couldn't put any names to the faces. As per usual his nerves caught up to him and he forgot what comes next in an introduction, so he went instead with, "Muffin, anyone?"

It seemed as though the young girl on the bench raised her head to Fiona as a form of acknowledgment. Fiona couldn't help but smile, as to assert herself as a friendly face. Her hazel eyes lit up by the morning sun. Which helped to illuminate the mossy green color surrounding her honey-colored pupil. With a rush of cold air breaching the neckline of her cloak and sending an involuntary shiver through her small framed body. She could feel the heat of her apple muffin nearly evaporate on the spot. " Brisk." she thought to herself as she walked over to the young girl.
The grass beneath her feet crunched softly from the soft freeze as she walked towards the young girl on the bench. "Must have had a wee bit of a cold snap last night" she stated to the girl in front of her. " Wee bit colder than the city, huh?" She continued to ask as she walked forward. Fiona gestured to the bench before she sat down. " Do you mind if I join you?" Fiona asked the girl. Fiona watched the girl clench her cloak closer to her in a response to either the weather or awkwardness of Fiona or so she thought. Not sitting until she had gotten a verbal or nonverbal response from the girl, and once she had she sat down near the girl. The morning sun reflected off of the Great Lake in the foreground of Fiona's visual range, the breeze tickled the aging trees and created what Fiona would have called leaf songs. While the breeze itself was chilly and brisk, the sun combated that with its warmth.
" I'm Fiona." She told the girl. "Right. Einar. Tachi Einar." the girl responded. Fiona smiled and looked around. She could see a few stray students wandering around closer to the castle, as well as a few young boys on their way towards Fiona and Tachi. They weren't as a group, they were definitely staggered in their arrival, but all welcome nonetheless. Fiona looked back at Tachi because the boys were all so far away, and it was rude to stare. Fiona studied the young girl in front of her. She had noticed that she also had her first-year robes on, but her colors were that of Gryffindor. "So yer, A first-year like me then?" Fiona asked. Fiona was a bit nervous about her next inquiry, for she wasn't sure how Tachi would respond. " Wizard World is somethin' innit?" Fiona asked. " I have to admit, I have no idea any of this existed." she confessed to Tachi.
Fiona did her best to remain objective, and friendly. Her stomach began to rumble, with either anxiety or hunger. She figured that she would at least attempt to eat her apple muffin. She pulled the muffin, which was wrapped in a napkin, out of her cloak pocket. She began to pull off the top of the muffin and thought " Offer Tachi some. The best to way anyone's heart is through food." Fiona took a beat. " Do you want some? It's Apple." She asked Tachi. As Fiona removed the top of her muffin and ripped it in half to preemptively hand it to Tachi, a young boy approached the two girls. The first boy gave the girls a head nod, which Fiona returned. Then there was another young boy who approached shortly after. All of the students seemed to be in all different houses. None of which were in Fiona's. There was Fiona as a Hufflepuff, and it seemed there was a Slytherin and Gryffindor, as well as another young Slytherin boy approaching the two girls.
The first to ask Fiona and Tachi anything was a young Gryffindor boy. "Morning," said the young boy. With half a muffin in her hand, the boy continued. " Muffin, anyone?" Now there was another Slytherin boy approaching. The Second Slytherin boy asked if they were first years as well. Fiona's eyes widened. " Yeah. Come join." she insisted.

One of the girls (Miss Grey) had asked him if he was a first year. It was perhaps not the most proper way to start a conversation, but she was no Ashwood, at least. The fresh memory of the conversation of taking a dip in alligator-infested waters made the Chinese boy take ore kindly to such a small breach of etiquette.
“Indeed,” he said, carefully enunciating his words. “My name is Hui Ming, first-year Slytherin. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss.”
He managed to get most of that out properly, though a tinge of bitterness remained at his house name. Slytherin? Him? How?!
Just as he had approached the others, more people followed and approached them. A part of him was amused, while another part was equally exasperated. The Asian girl seemed to have voiced his thoughts on the matter.
Did not a single person among the new first-years maintain proper hours, or were experiences in every House as insane as his?
He recognized Geoffrey from the boat ride the night before – Mr. Donovan had ended up in Gryffindor, from what he recalled. He nodded in a silent greeting to the boy, and was rewarded with an offer for muffins. It was a tempting offer, but politeness meant that he could hardly accept.
Before he could quite respond though, the final girl had all but invited them to join them for what was an impromptu meal. That was more than he had bargained for when he had approached. A light conversation was one thing, but with the rate at which new faces seemed to pop into existence in this area was rather frightening.
“It’s quite alright Miss,” he said in reply to the offer to join them. “I would hate to intrude upon you all this early in the morning. Especially as it appears that a meal is in the works.”

The Slytherin boy was very kind to his question and said his name. Dancelos responded to her gentle gesture."It's my pleasure too, Mr. Ming. My name is Dancelos Grey.I'm in Slytherin house too and I'm first class."
.They looked like they were saying "Are these really Slytherins?" . It was seriously disturbing. So, not all Slytherins have to be the same. This perception has not yet been destroyed. Some even thought they were still racist. One of the reasons Dancelos couldn't make friends was this biased approach.Dancelos kept quiet, not wanting to be misunderstood. SHe didn't say anything about it.
Then they all started to introduce themselves. The girls made room for Dancelos to sit. Dancelos sat down. Some of their faces were familiar. SHe immediately remembered. SHe had seen Hui and Geoffrey at the boat disaster yesterday. They were on the second boat.
