This was it. The big moment.
He knew what happened here in the Great Hall, and his family – his entire family expected him to match into Gryffindor. And something deep within him knew that he was probably not best suited for that house.
The temptation to flee, to toss himself into that squid in the lake was starting to get a bit overwhelming, and he was breathing a fair bit deeply as he watches the opening entrances, admittedly not paying as much attention as he could have.
“Wolfe, Tristan.”
And eventually, it had come to him, and like he was approaching the executioner’s block, he moves stiffly to sit on the chair.
The Hat did murmur when sat upon the head of the young lad, his eyes nearly crossing as he glances up towards the brim of the thing, as if trying to discern what a hat might feel. Trust the hat, the Sorting Hat was never wrong – even if he desperately wanted it to be.
Closing his eyes, he repeats the mantra in his head, “Gryffindor, Gryffindor, Gryffindor…” letting his eyes close.
The Hat continued to murmur. “Gryffindor? There’s enough love of knowledge in you, perhaps to make Ravenclaw a house, a fine house that you would do well in,” it murmurs. “It would be a house that would help your cleverness flourish – but yes, yes – there’s a bravery there. And do I sense a hint, just a hint, of… pride? You don’t like letting people see you fluster and fail, do you – and you try anyways.”
A pause then, as the Hat announces, in a grand tone, “GRYFFINDOR!”
The relief wafted from Tristan, and the poor lad felt as though he might faint. But putting a grin on his face, he gets up on legs that feel like noodles, relief and joy clashing together like tidal waves in his heart, as he walks towards the Gryffindor table, lifting his hands in the air.
The Hat is never wrong! His family would be delighted – he had to write an owl this very evening!

Word Count: 636Colina thought back to sitting on the floor of her family room with her father, Tavish, as he sat on the couch, telling her stories of Hogwarts. He always had such a wistful look on his face as he described the sprawling halls that he and Colina's mother, Amelia, would run through or the countless hidden rooms that they would hide in together. Tavish seemed more enamoured with the memories of Amelia, but the castle's architecture was what Colina was really interested in.
Despite all of those stories, Colina was still not prepared for the breathtaking view that filled her eyes as she stepped into the Great Hall with all the other First Years. Most of the floor was filled with students sitting or standing around the four lengthy tables, each dotted with patches of red, green, blue, or yellow. The walls were filled with portraits talking amongst themselves. And, of course, there were the hundreds of floating candles flickering across the giant room. The yellow flames looked like tiny stars that dotted the ceiling.
As Colina stepped through the door, she was greeted by an extremely tall greying man wearing armour of all things, compared to the robes most of the other adults chose to wear. To Colina, he looked like he stepped out of one of the paintings hanging around the Great Hall, grand with a sense of being from a different time.
Colina quickly moved over to the group of unsorted First Years as they congregated in a portion of the front of the Great Hall. Looking across all the different faces of older students and teachers, she was curious about all the different backgrounds they came from. Compared to Colina living entirely with muggles from the same small Scottish town to this really humbled her.
The reveal of the Sorting Hat still surprised Colina even though she knew it was coming. It had such a booming voice, not even requiring any sort of special spell to amplify its voice. Then he started singing, the same song he's sung for decades at the start of Hogwarts' school year.
As they started calling names, Colina was curious as to which house she would belong to. There was Hufflepuff, which seemed like a top pick since she loved hanging out with people. Then again, she was sure plenty of extroverts belonged to the other three houses. Maybe she could be a Slytherin or a Ravenclaw? She didn't get the best grades in the world, so maybe not.
Colina was quickly pulled out of those thoughts when she hears her name being called. She didn't expect to be waiting for long, sure her last name wasn't Abraham or something like that, but Doherty was pretty close to the beginning of the alphabet.
As she sat down on the stool and the large Sorting Hat was placed on her head, Colina wondered why they made it so big. Sure, it may have had some other purpose in the past, but if it was for sorting small children to begin with- Suddenly, the booming voice of the Sorting Hat quickly replaced any trail of thought she was having.
"Oh? Didn't think Tavish would have any children,
A Hufflepuff like him maybe? Hmm, well you are very friendly,
Let's cut to the chase, though, since something in you is shouting,
No, you already know, Gryffindor is where you must be!"
Colina blinked a couple of times as the students and professors started clapping for her. She stood up, smiled, and moved to sit at the Gryffindor table. Gryffindor seemed like a good choice for her, she didn't really care as long as she got sorted. She was pretty indecisive about what she wanted, though, so she was curious why the Sorting Hat said her mind was shouting at him.

Seren followed the crowd of First Years into the Great Hall when it was time, her eyes taking everything in with a nervous focus that she hoped no one would be able to read from her face. Sadly for the slightly too slender young woman, her nervousness was kind of obvious from the way she moved, and the way she was looking at everyone... And her stance, a stance that screamed 'afraid' to anyone who could read children easily. Add to it the fact that her nervousness was causing her to accidentally shift her hair color to a kind of grey that might let her blend into the shadows. When she noticed that the braid she had hanging over her shoulder had changed color, she flushed and focused, turning her hair back to black.
She focused again, listening to the song the Hat song, the instructions the staff gave, and then, extremely quietly (almost as if she was afraid of being noticed doing it), she sighed at the realization that this was going in alphabetical order, by last name, and she was going to probably be dead last. If not last, incredibly close, that was certain. She closed her eyes, waited a moment as she shifted her stance to one she could stand in for a longer time, and waited. She heard the names go by, her eyes opening after a moment, watching her fellow students getting called up.
She found herself wondering what inside a person the Hat was using to decide a person's qualities, and thus their house. Was it based on things they done in the past? Or maybe the dreams the held, or what they valued the most in the world? Maybe a mixture of all of the above. It was hard to say, and she did not really have any way of knowing. She did pay a little special attention to the house selections of the students she had shared her boat across the lake with, but otherwise she just held herself as still and calm as she could.
She knew that she was going to fret herself to a silly mess, otherwise. The loss of control over her hair color for a moment proved that.
Finally, however, they got through the list and to her name. When she heard 'Seren Yong', she started... And then walked forwards. There was a fragile attempt at confidence and dignity as she moved, but it would have taken very little to shatter it. Luckily, she made it to the stool for the hat without much incident, and she sat down. When the ancient hat settled on her head, so large that all she saw was the inside, she took another deep breath. There was only one thought going through her head, and it was "Not Slytherin. Never Slytherin. Never. I do not wish to follow my parents."
"Well, well, well. The second Yong of your line to come under my brim... And a Brenhin, by blood, too. Interesting. And so against Slytherin, too. Hmmmmm."
A pause as she just focused on those words, letting the Hat think whatever it wanted of her beyond that.
"Well then. I see intelligence, and a great desire to learn. Compassion, too, and kindness... Oh, and an interest in cookery, despite your house elves? Hmmm, Hufflepuff? You could do well there. But... That love of books... No, I think I know where to place you... Best you go into RAVENCLAW."
The sudden explosion of sound from the brim startled her, but she got up and took the Hat off, before walking with pride towards the Ravenclaw table. She had never felt more relief in her life, and the welcoming faces and clapping of her new House just filled her with a new warmth. Ravenclaw... A home without memories attached. How wonderful!

When Cam walked into the Great Hall with the rest of the first years he wasn't expecting what he saw. It was absolutely humongous with a number of tables and floating candles. He looked up in amazement and the space like ceiling with a million star like spots twinkling down on him. He had read about the school a little bit from his school books but it was even more fantastical in person. It amazed him that there was a whole magical world that had been completely secret to him until recently. He grinned, very excited to see the rest of the castle, at least until he looked down and realized how many people there truly where in the room.
His heart dropped slightly as his nerves started to bubble up. He had never been in a room with this many people before and frankly, it scared him to death. His attention turned back to the front of the room though as a speech began. Once it ended though, students names were then being called to be sorted. He started fidgeting with his locket as they grew closer and closer to calling him up. He had no what house he would be sorted into and he wasn't exactly excited to go in front of a bunch of people he didn't know. That's when he heard his name.
"Asher, Camille!"
He grimaced slightly as he heard his full name and slowly but surely made his way up to the sorting hat, doing his best to not trip over his own feet. He sat down as the sorting hat was placed on his head. He looked down at his hands, refusing to look up due to nerves. Even though he knew what was coming, he jumped slightly when the hat started talking to him.
" Hmm.. very interesting you seem to be quite the hard work even if it doesn't get you recognition and it seems you do have a big heart which could make you a good fit for Hufflepuff. Although, I see a hidden depth to you. You are quite intelligent with a hidden wit hidden in your eyes to help those you trust. Yes, yes I think I quite know where you go. Ravenclaw!" the hat uttered and Cam felt the hat lift from his head. He nervously but excitedly made his way over to the Ravenclaw table.
He truly hadn't expected to be sorted there but was just happy that he wasn't at the front anymore. The hat's words still ring within his head, he doubted them but there wasn't much he could do now. His was a part of a new home now, all he could hope now though is that everything would go alright.

Zyanya walked into the Great hall, her eyes full of wonder. It dawned on her that she would be here time after time, with that thought, she decided to study the tables in depth. Then the lighting, which to her, was the most striking part of it all. 'Dozens of little lights floating.. It seems like a dream.' She thought. She had come to the realization that she was going to study here, but now, that realization dawned on her with deadly precision, she was going to study here, live here, meet new people here.. the thought amazed her. She had read of Hogwarts time and time again, and now she was finally here.
When she finally noticed the wandering eye at the tabled that seemed to never end, that familiar feeling in her stomach grew, she felt a small bead of sweat go down her brow, gods think place looked small all of a sudden. She found her way to small section of the crowd then the speech started, she listened intently, well, as intently as she could in a place so new.
The speech finished, it had felt like a few seconds and an hour at the same time, suddenly names were being called, how exciting! She was thrilled to meet so many new people like her, but also hesitant of what was to come, the future was so unpredictable."Nessa Zyanya?" a voice called, she looked up, she was being guided to the hat.
She smiled, something done out of fear and joy all at the same time.
She held a steady pace while she was escorted to the big hat which was very, very alive.. She sat under it, almost holding her breath.
"Well, Well, Well... We have another Nessa here!" The hat started, a small devilish chuckle coming from it. "Let's get to business! I see you're very optimistic, much curiosity comes from you... a smart one too, you want to learn everything there is to learn huh? Well, Enough of this! I think I know quite enough, yes, yes, I know where I'm going to place you.. Ravenclaw!"
Then, a burst of noise came from one of the tables, her closed eyes opened, she hadn't realized she was holding that breath. A tang of disappointment settled into her heart, she would have to explain this to her parents and brother, a new house with no ties in it. She didn't know if this was a blessing or a curse.
Zyanya got up, thanking the sorting hat with a mumble; no response from it. She made her way steadily to the table clapping, she smiled nervously, bowing her head down and sitting down. She would have to write to her family this evening, what was she going to say? She was already different enough.
She could only hope this was going to go well.

Thus far, the entire journey had been eventful and thrilling, leaving Enrico exhausted, yet, yearning for more adventure. As was his nature, to go where the fun was. For a school, the boy had to admit that he was caught off guard by how enjoyable the experience had been, especially when comparing it that to the muggle one. But this came as no surprise, he had always believed that magic is real, and he had known that it would be this much fun to wield it - to live it.
So there he was, probably the shortest lad in comparison to everyone he was walking next to, his neck itching in pain as he remained to observe all the candles flying in the air, scorching a fiery light of fire. On both sides were two tables, fully occupied by students who ranged older the further you continued to walk. Some with red robes, other blue. Enrico was oblivious of what that meant - the colours, the grouping, but he soon found out.
He did not understand the concept nor the necessity of it, but regardless, it had made things even more exciting as he watched and observed his fellow first-year mates being called out to get sorted. A magical hat was being placed on their head and when it spoke for the first time, in its deep croaking voice, Enrico was completely flabbergasted. He knew how magical magic could be, but he did not expect so much of it. Everywhere he looked, he saw magic, and it made him happy. So happy he was close to peeing himself.
Suddenly, as Rico was so deeply lost in his surroundings, he was called out to walk up and take a seat and prepare for his own sorting. Such a simple task was anything but obvious for such a feeble boy. So his name was said out loud a second time, intending to grab hold of his attention. Which it did, as he raised his hand, standing short in between a group of numerous other students. Funnily enough, Enrico had never really got used to the idea of raising one's hand before requesting to speak. Clearly, it was not the time to start the practice as he heard a couple of girls cackling at his behaviour.
Without further hesitation and a bright mischievous smile on his face, the boy climbed up the short stairs and sat down on the wooden stool provided. His legs lifted off the ground as he sat with his back bent. His brown eyes nearly found their way to the back of his head as he gazed upwards, intending to hold his head still. Which had always been a hard task to actually accomplish. He felt the hat sitting on his head as the big old man placed it. Naturally, everyone expected the hat to start talking, just as it had prior to Enrico's turn. But no. There was a still, awkward silence that made Enrico feel the awkwardness of the situation, but before he could open his own mouth and demand the hat to sort him in one of the Houses, a deep voice stopped him at a halt.
"Creative - yes, a widespread of imagination, there's no wonder you could bring to life all that dwells in your head. Ravenclaw would show you the way, but I sense a lack of natural talent. But you're also willing to risk your own worth for the thrill of venture. Gryffindor, perhaps? But there are other important things you value... hmm... Those patient and fair will help you on this accord, solely because wielding magic comes before what lives in your head, so better be..."
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
Enrico would have personally preferred if he was simply told the colour rather than the weird, fantastical name of the House he was sorted into, but thanks to his usually useless memory, he remembered his fellow peers who were sorted into the same group approaching the students in yellow and black, and so he did the same.
What the sorting hat judged Enrico to be, the boy didn't understand, so maybe it was actually right. But the words all felt like a riddle that needed solving and the newly-sorted Hufflepuff was never the one to solve anything. If anything, he was always the one that raised questions and add more chaos to any given situation.
The luxurious food on the table looked delicious though...

Della was nervous. She had to sit up there and let the entire student stare at her? To make matters worse, some students sat with the sorting hat for a very long time before it announced the house.
She had already had an eventful boat ride, and she had gasped at the grandeur of the great hall, but this entire day was turning and churning around in her stomach. Della was an anxious mess now that she saw all the professors and students she'd had to prove herself to or hope that they didn't notice her at all.
The headmaster called her name, "Barfield, Della."
She forced herself to start walking up to the front. It wasn't hard to scoot through the students, as she was taller than most of them. She sat on the stool and tried to focus on the door at the other end of the great hall, not the hundreds of eyes searing into her from around the room.
"Ahhhh, a lover of books and knowledge I see."
Della jumped. The hat was talking to her! She glanced at the headmaster and the other students. It didn't seem like they could hear it. It was all in her head.
She thought back, so you can hear me?
"Oh yes, I can hear you and I can see so much more."
Well, I do think I can go into the book house. That would probably be right.
"Yes, you'd do well in Ravenclaw, sure, but there's something else in here. Something that's a bit bigger, but maybe you don't see it yet."
What? What? Not the bad house.
"Bad? The houses are subjective, that all depends on what you mean by bad. Of course, I know what you mean by bad. I know everything about you. No, I don't think Slytherin. I see a lot of stubbornness. And you want everyone to like you, you take great pride in being well-received, yes?"
Yeah . . . I think I do. But what does mean? I'm not sure I understand the whole house thing. Della stared back at the door at the other end with gritted teeth. She hoped her face was conveying her frustration with the hat's conversation.
"You'll just have to trust me."

She nervously waited with the others kids, she was aware that she would be nervous but she didn't expect to be this nervous. while some other kids were getting sorted into their houses she kept thinking. "What would mom do" she kept thinking about that for a while until she heard her name.
"Dilane, Yelena?"
Professor McGonagall called.
it took a while to process everything but after a good 12 minutes she walked to the front and sat down on the chair. the room was full of people she didn't know. possible friends, enemies and lovers. Pfft Lovers? yuck. I'm not interested in anyone.
"Hmm..." the sorting hat spoke
She kept thinking one thing. "not Slytherin, not slytherin"
"not Slytherin hm?" the sorting hat called out.
"okay. better make it..."
"Gryffindor!!" the hat called.
she smiled and gladly stood up and walked to her table. Gryffindor. a good house. she loved imagining to be on the quidditch team but they probably didn't recruit 11 year olds, she chuckled to herself and waited for the other people to get sorted. after that she ate as much as she could and finished dinner feeling full. what a great feeling she had today.

Tyzon couldn’t believe his eyes as he entered the gigantic room with everything it had to offer him and all the other students. He moved with the group of other 1st year Students who were all going to be sorted into one of these four Hogwarts Houses very soon, one by one. He was very excited and nervous, at the same time, about all of this going on. He clutched the school book he had been holding in his hands tightly as he watched as one by one each of the other first year students were called up one after the other and quickly sorted. He was very eager and almost wanted to jump out of line and run up and get sorted, but he knew better than to do something like that, as he didn't want to give anyone a bad impression of himself.
“Blythe, Tyzon!” Was shouted by the Headmistress for all to hear who was going to be the next person sorted.
Before Tyzon knew it, it was now his turn to be among the sorted. He slowly stepped forward out of the group of remaining unsorted kids and took a deep breath and clutched the book harder as swiftly moved towards the sorting hat and sat down ready to be sorted into one of the houses.
“Hmm, Yes. Eager to Learn are you. But also quite Brave and Loyal as well. I sense you are quite achievement-oriented with a lot of your work and studies.” The Sorting Hat said to itself out loud. “Your Wisdom and Intellect shine bright in you.” The Hat added. “RAVENCLAW!” The Sorting Hat shouted as the Ravenclaw table soon cheered for their newest member of their house. Tyzon quickly got up once the hat had been removed from his head and then he made his way over to the Ravenclaw table and took a seat with his new house mates as he sat there and watched the remaining students get sorted into their houses.

Sorting Ceremony
Interacting With:»-----------------------------------------♡------------------------------------------«Valerie was about to collapse. She had heard story after story from her parents, siblings, and other family members, but she never really imagined.. this. Floating candles, tall, wooden walls, and long tables filled with students from each of the houses. Valerie made her way to the front of the Great Hall with the rest of the first years, staring at the small wooden stool in front of her.
It's super scary Val, her brother Toby would tease. Everyone's staring at you. Make sure you don't panic and run away crying. Happened to one of the kids when I was a first-year, he got kicked out. 'Til this day Valerie didn't know if he was lying. Toby wasn't the most trustworthy person but it wasn't entirely impossible.. Valerie shook her head, trying to dismiss any negative thoughts. This was the moment she had been waiting for. She had been planning it in her head for weeks. She would get sorted into Ravenclaw, just like her father and siblings. Nothing could possibly go wrong. If her siblings had gotten in, why couldn't she?
"Laurier, Valerie!" a booming voice echoed through the Great Hall.
Well, that was awkward. Valerie thought. She wondered how the headmaster could call out people's names so loud that it reached the entire Great Hall. Wouldn't it hurt his voice? Then she realized almost everyone was quiet. The sorting ceremony must've been really interesting if everyone could stop themselves from talking to friends they hadn't seen in months to watch it.
Valerie took a deep breath, keeping her gaze forward as she walked up the steps to the sorting hat. A minute. she thought to herself. She'd only be up there for a minute. She'd quickly be sorted then off the steps. It wasn't that big of a deal.
She sat down on the stool, the hat being placed onto her head. For some reason Valerie expected it to be heavier, but it was light, she almost didn't feel it being set onto her head. It was merely a piece of cloth after all. She closed her eyes, thinking to herself. Ravenclaw, Ravenclaw, Ravenclaw.. Suddenly the hat burst to life.
"Ah! Another Laurier here! And I thought two was enough.." the hat muttered. "Perhaps you shall be a Ravenclaw like your siblings. I sense strong imagination and creativity."
Yes, yes please. Valerie thought.
"Or perhaps a Hufflepuff, like your mother. You seem social and caring. Or perhaps.. ah. Now I see. A sense of bravery and pride. You have much courage and determination. Ah yes! Now I see where you belong... GRYFFINDOR!" The hat boomed.
Valerie blinked, unable to register the words she had heard. Gryffindor? This wasn't how it was supposed to go. What would her parents think? Her entire family had been Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs. She, Valerie Eleanor Laurier, had just ruined it. She sighed, taking a seat at the Gryffindor table. She knew somewhere, Vivian and Toby were probably staring at each other, doing that thing where they could read each other's minds since they were twins.
Well, whether she liked it or not, this was her family now. These were people like her. This is where she belonged. "Gryffindor, Gryffindor," she said to herself trying to get used to the words in her mouth. Valerie looked around at her table. Maybe, it wasn't that bad.
