Sailing on a Ship in a Bottle
The Great Lake
Hogwarts
September 1st, 2021
yar hello Early evening's purple bloom had fallen over the grounds of Hogwarts, when the train stopped many of the first years had pressed their face's against the glass, desperate to catch the view of the castle, yet there was none to be found. Sat in the seat curled up into a sphere propped against the walls, Aedan was waking from an anxious sleep he'd fallen into in the last hour of the voyage. From somewhere within the train the beckoning calls for the first years to depart echoed through the cabins. He was alone now, his companions from the first half of the trip had likely already departed or wandered off for new amusement. Worrisome energy overcame Aedan once again, the jerk of waking up so quickly forced a sudden wave of adrenaline and the sinking fear that he'd been late, the train was already heading home. The neurotic youth bolted through the door of his cabin and down the steps, heaving and wheezing as he bounded from the steps onto the landing of Hogsmeade station. His fears and neuroses had prompted Aedan to run directly into one of the figures who'd been directing students from the train towards their entrances to the school. Without waiting for any sort of answer or check in the blond haired boy popped from the ground and began to run through the breathing routine his mother had shown him. 'In through the nose, 1... 2... 3... 4... 5... Out through the mouth 1... 2... 3...'Interacting with @Emily R. Brewer, @Hildegard Schneider,

yar hello Moments passed and Aedan began to come to his senses, he was standing along the station, the uncomfortably unfamiliar robes he wore sagging around his thin frame. He'd give anything to be dressed again in his muggle clothes, the slacks and button ups that made him look like a miniature of his father. The tall buttoned collar of the uniform rode up his neck and pushed at the fringes of Aedan's discomforted mind; with an unsteady hand the boy unbuttoned the robes down to his collar bone and took in another series of calming breaths. Finally aware of the splitting crowd as staff beckoned first years towards the end of the station and what appeared to be the short of a deep black lake, while the other students were ushered into the forests outside the town. "W-W-What's goin' on?" He called out in a flutish whisper, sure that few could hear him over the sounds of chatter and foot traffic; both tremendous fear and a hidden hopefulness whelmed underneath as his question hung upon the air.

Hildegard had lost the comrades she made on the train, not that she did not like them or they did not like her, except maybe for Hui Ming.
But all the agitation from the other, the lack of light and so on made her lose them, specially since she could not keep up with their speed.
She was now alone, in front of this wonderful Hogwart's view and because of the circonstance Schneider she wanted to find a new group, almost any would do.
Upon looking around she found a blond boy nearby and decided to come closer, he seemed alone too, which was really a good thing.
Yet Hildegard did not want to address him yet, with everyone around and for no real reason.
But then this happened, the boy started to question what was going on.
-what do you mean ? Are you perhaps confused? She asked while limping a bit more toward the boy.
-Btw can I join you ? I was kind of left out. Oh sorry I am Hildegard Schneider and you?
She looked at the boy waiting for his reply. Hoping he would be a decent fellow
Unlike that one she just had to deal with in the hogwart express.

The Hogsmeade train station was was chokingly crowded with students. Of course, there were less people here than in the Platform 9 3/4 - the parents and other relatives having bid their goodbyes back there - but the small village had only a narrow area for the arriving folks to move in, compared to Kings Cross Station. Liana pushed her way through the mass of robed figures, trying not to get in the way of the older students that were all heading in a single direction, while the first years had to surf against the wave of people to reach the staff members calling them over. She was glad that their luggage was to be left in the train for later transportation to the castle - if she'd had to drag it with her, she'd never have made her way to the lake shore. As she stepped out of the main current of people, the girl glanced in the direction they were all headed. In the distance, she could see the carriages that would take the older students to the castle. She rose to her tiptoes, trying to see the horseless vehicles that she knew actually had magical horses in them - thestrals, she remembered they were called. Barely any passengers ever knew of their existence, though, and even fewer were able to see them. The first-year wished there was a way to perceive thestrals without having witnessed a death. In the pictures they looked creepy, but there was a mystery to them, somehow attractive to the girl - and she knew they were not dangerous or harmful to people, other than reminding those that were able to see them of past traumas.
She was lost in thought when a flurry of motion caught her eye, and she directed her attention to it just as the blond boy ran headlong into one of the adults, ending up flat on his bottom as a result. The girl watched uncertainly as he got up and seemed to be going through some sort of breathing routine. He appeared to be lost and confused. One part of Liana's brain, the one molded by her father, was saying that he's probably a Muggleborn - who else would display such lack of dignity and be so easily thrown off? However, something in the boy's desperate whisper of a question activated the much older section of her mind, the one groomed by her mother - the one that was taught to be kind and help strangers that seem to be in need. Before she could do anything, another girl spoke to him with a bit of a foreign accent. However, her words didn't seem to have dispersed the boy's confusion; thus, the redhead decided to join in as well.
''Hey, don't worry,'' she spoke up in a friendly tone, stepping up to the boy. ''We're waiting for all the first-years to gather so we can cross the lake in boats,'' she explained, gesturing further out into the darkness where they could just make out a long line of wooden rowboats along the shore. ''Afterwards we'll be sorted into one of four houses according to our character traits, and then there will be a feast with a lot of good food,'' the girl summarized. Then she paused. ''Are you a Muggleborn?'' she asked, the idea nagging at her. Father would so much disapprove of her fraternizing with someone of such lowly blood status. ''Doesn't seem like your parents told you much about this place,'' Liana added, trying to make it look like blood purity was not the reason for her inquiry.

As soon as he got off the train, Marcus froze, just as it had happened earlier that morning, when the boy crossed the brick wall and stood in awe as he saw the Hogwarts Express for the first time, but this time it was for a completely different reason. Hogsmeade station was nothing like King's Cross in that it was much smaller, causing the young man a slight - and unknown to him until that moment - feeling of claustrophobia. Students of all ages walked at a fast pace from one side to another, and Marcus found it difficult to find his way, until he heard a voice instructing the first-year students to go in a certain direction. The boy was alone, not sure if Emily, the girl he had spent the day with, had already left the train or not, so he decided to move on, albeit a little dizzy and unable to pay much attention to where he was going. And then, suddenly he bumped into a little ginger girl Sorry! he hurried to say, and then noticed that the girl was accompanied by two people, a second girl and a boy that looked way more stressed than Marcus, whom both girls were seemingly trying to confort. The black-haired boy then slowly backed away, looking around for his friend.

yar hello With only a whispered call of confusion Aedan had seemingly drawn many to him all at once now, perhaps he'd desired guidance but this happened to be quite too much simultaneously. As the faces entered view Aedan felt the thumping of his heart quicken and the heaving of his lungs exacerbate. Clinching both fists hard so the nails against his skin remembered him to stay grounded; breathing a single deep breath through the nose and holding his eyes on the two girls who had approached him. It was only a few seconds, but they stretched across time for what felt like minutes as the adrenaline flooded the boys blood. He had to reply the words he'd heard, introductions, assumptions, possibly veiled insults? 'Is there something wrong with being muggle born?' the boy thought to himself before finally opening his mouth to give a shaking, exhaling response. "I'm Aedan White... I'm not muggle born, I just d-d-don't know what we-we're doing." He had few ways of answering the comment about his parents, had they really told him so little? Or perhaps had he just refused to listen so often that any attempt to educate their son had fallen on distracted ears, he was so often caught within his own mind after all.
When a black haired boy passed Aedan felt the need to move from his position so close to the scrum of students leaving the train and began to shift towards the boats they had been instructed to make way to. Again he squirmed and shifted in the school robes, even with an unbuckled neck buttons he couldn't help but feel that every sat uncomfortable and awkward on his thin frame. "H-How long d-d-do I have to wear the-these stupid things." Even Aedan's attempts at complaining were ineffectual and small, his words shook with the vibrato of a fluting performance, not so much like the full bodied annoyance he felt at the long black robes. He felt his breath begin to leave him again, returning to a rigid stance and remembering to breath deep, Aedan turned back to face the people who had approached him. "S-s-sorry, I'm just no-not used to magic... w-w-we live in a normal town." Normal, that's what it felt like to him, the use of the term muggle felt unorthodox, rude even, the mailman wasn't a muggle, he was just normal. Aedan and his parents were the unorthodox ones... weren't they?

Her voice did not seem to reach the boy as it was too low, it was kind of embarrassing but thankfully no one seemed to have noticed it.
Hildegard decided not to follow him and he little bunch that started to form around him, instead she decided to go look for one of those firsties she was with in the Hogwarts Express.
She'd follow any of them exept the glasses wearing boy she thought was creepy, the pure blood was therefor looking for either Avery or Samantha.
They surely would be near as it was not that long since she had lost them, Hildegard tried to look for them, but had no result so far.
Schneider paused her search, maybe was she searching on the wrong direction, they probably was closer to the lake than to the train, she she just tried to look further.
She did not really want to come close to the lake as she had heard of numerous monster that lived of it.
As Hildegard came closer to the lake she started to recognize someone's back, without really being able to identify who's back it was.
But the closer she came the clearer the back, it was Avery Chen's back.

There was so much anxiety in this white-haired boy that Liana was suddenly worried about saying or doing the wrong thing, thus making him have an outright panic attack. The young girl was not equipped to deal with it; this was one of her very first interactions with a peer, and she was fairly uncertain about her own performance. She resolved to talk calmly and not refer to his outlandish behaviour in any way; it was the courteous way to treat someone, after all.
''It's completely normal to be worried about all sorts of things on your first day at school. But we'll be fine, the staff is there to guide us through the process,'' she assured the boy - Aedan, as he introduced himself - and was about to state her own name when someone walked right into her.
''Ow- watch it!'' the girl complained, training her eyes on this newcomer. ''It's okay, just... be more careful next time, it's pretty crowded here,'' she responded to his apology, not willing to start a fight over such a minor inconvenience. Her mind was otherwise preoccupied, anyway. As Liana turned back to the conversation at hand, she observed the decrease in their numbers - the black-haired girl had departed during the moment of confusion. That was just as well, she supposed. Interacting with fewer people might be easier on Aedan's nerves. ''By the way, I'm Liana Kerr. Nice to make your acquaintance,'' she introduced herself, remembering that she had not done it yet.
The boy started ranting about their clothing being stupid, which caused her eyebrows to go up slightly. How odd. To her, the Muggle clothes she had to wear while passing through King's Cross were intensely uncomfortable, and changing into the wizarding robes had come as an immense relief.
''You don't like the school robes?'' she asked curiously. ''Well, we have to wear them until the feast ends. Then we will be escorted to the dormitories, where we can change. But you'll get used to wearing robes, they're really not that bad. Might take some time to if you've never worn them before, though'' her speech came out in a steady, peaceful stream, just loud enough to penetrate the surrounding din of chatter. It was the voice she sometimes used to lure stray cats in for a petting session, meant to calm the jumpy, wary animal. It worked on felines, why wouldn't it work on a human child? ''Only a couple more hours and this stressful day will be over. Don't worry, you're not alone,'' she reassured him, neglecting to mention that, to her knowledge, there would be quite a few stressful days at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
"S-s-sorry, I'm just no-not used to magic... w-w-we live in a normal town."
That was a queer choice of adjective, but Liana chose not to take it as an offence to the wizarding community. After all, normal wasn't always the best option, only the one people were most used to. It was such a biased word to use, and only showed the speaker's naiveté, not an intention to criticize the world he had just been introduced to.
''Normal town? You mean Muggle town? Oh, I see, your parents have to hide their magic so you don't see it used much,'' the redhead voiced her assumption, although it hadn't really been clear from his words whether both of his parents were magical or not. ''You'll get accustomed to that as well, all these strange things happening now will seem completely normal in no time. Do you want to share a boat with me? I can answer some questions you might have, to the best of my ability,'' she offered in a sudden bout of generosity.

Yar The thin boy felt his cheeks redden as he became aware of his poor choice of words, normal was, or at least it had within it a certain measure of judgement to it. The aquamarine baubles that were his eyes danced upon the ground for a bit as Aedan measured his breathing again. Just as he'd learned to do in primary school he forced a smile and pulled his head upon from his sulking pose to look the girl in her eyes. "S-sorry... I'd like to share a boat." The soft blue eyes shut slowly as the boy pressed his smile larger for a moment like he'd seen his father do when meeting people out in the town. Another deep breath and Aedan pushed his posture into a tall firm stance of faux confidence, "please, lead the way." He stepped towards the girl, ignoring the incapacitating thump within his chest, half his mind focused on remembering to breath deep and slow. As soon as the two began to move towards the docks and their late appearance to these boats that Aedan had been so told of the boy brought himself to speak, fighting the tightness within his jaw. "Uhm... I'm from Donegal. It's... well it's not magical. M-my parents said the-they don't like relying on magic. My dad works for the Irish government." Perhaps he felt like speeding through his family history and what life was like at home Aedan could force a friendship, and some ease in conversation, it however just felt rather strange and disjointed as the boy jumped from fact to fact.
yar Perhaps it was second nature to doubt himself, perhaps he was just becoming aware of the rather strange manner he'd chosen to introduce himself to Liana, either way Aedan chuckled loudly as they approached the boats and put a hand on his bright red face, hiding the flushed cheeks. "I-i-i'm sorry, I d-did it again. W-where do you live?" His father had once told him that he could ask people about themselves, as Aedan's habit of speaking rather disconnectedly about different thoughts, factoids, and feelings was interesting to his father but wasn't conducive to making friends.
"You gotta let people know you care about them, dathúil. Just like you get nervous about what people think of you, everyone's scared that someone won't like them. If you use all that charm your mother gave you on making others feel cared for, they'll give it all back in time. Alright?" That's what his father had told him the last night hey were in Diagon Alley, Aedan had been so nervous he'd barely slept in the creaking and eerie bedrooms of the leaky cauldron. Donal's advice was always the hard stuff, where Roisin could calm her son with but a song of a sweet word, Donal knew how to inspire his son, sadly Aedan often failed to live up to the measure of either parent, or so he felt. He'd taken almost ten years to have a single sign of magic, and after his mother's family came to celebrate he'd heard the word squid or squerg he couldn't remember the exact word but he knew when they said it it felt... potent and painful. They'd all feared he was one of those squergs, he thought, that he was somehow like all the 'muggles'. The reality of how that felt, how his extended family seemed to almost lighten up at the discovery that he was rather different from his class mates in primary school, like they loved him more for it... it made Aedan feel less than... He broke himself from the memory, hoping that he hadn't drifted off or misheard anything his new companion had said to him while he was lost in pained thoughts.

Dialogue: Liana - #09621b
Interacting with: @Aedan White
The offer to board a boat together having been accepted, Liana beckoned the boy to follow as she lead the way towards the docks, tagging slightly behind the main body of the other first-years. They all formed a massive flock, and the girl couldn't even see the caretaker anymore through the mass of dark-robed figures, plenty of which were taller than herself. She listened to Aedan carefully, trying to ignore the part of her brain that was whispering 'Muggle-lovers, blood traitors' in response to the information about his parents. One fact in particular piqued her interest. So his father was a government official in the Muggle society? That was something... odd, yes, but also intriguing. However, her chance to ask about it slipped away as the boy bounced the conversation back at her, asking a question of his own.
''Oh, I'm from Inverness, technically, although we live fairly far outside of its urban center. It's also a Muggle city, and, well, we're not very- um-'' she stumbled for a suitable phrasing there, not exatcly willing to say 'we don't want to mix with their kind'.''Well, we're not very adapted to their ways, so we couldn't blend it without attracting attention. Our manor has all sorts of charms that are meant to repel non-magical people, a bit like the Hogwarts castle, although the protection spells here are much more powerful.'' She continued to talk as she climbed into the boat and sat down on one of the benches. Once both of them were in, the vessel smoothly drifted off the shore and began sailing towards the other end of the lake, along with other boats. ''To Muggles, Hogwarts is supposed to look like an old ruin with signs warning to stay away, and I think that most of their technology doesn't work here, either. Not sure if it's due to another spell that disables it, or just because the area is so saturated with magic that it causes failure in gaddgets that aren't adapted to it.'' The transition from speaking about her home to reciting what she'd read in Hogwarts: A History was quite intentional. Liana wasn't sure how much the boy really wanted to know of her personal life; thus, undersharing seemed better than oversharing. They were just strangers at this point, and she didn't want to seem too self-absorbed.
''Anyway, you said your father works for the government? Is he doing some sort of office job, or is he in a position of political influence?'' she inquired, returning to the previous subject. Infiltrating the Muggle governments with witches and wizards was one of the ideas Father had in his daydreams about helping the non-magical societies to destroy themselves faster, and in a way that wouldn't threaten the wizarding world. It would be the same thing that Muggles were doing to them, after all; sending their own barely magical spies to all parts of the wizarding society, the Ministry of Magic included. It now seemed like Father's idea was quite realistic, even without the use of mind- or emotion- manipulating magic. If Aedan's father truly got his job without them, that is.
