Everything is new here, is she dreaming? The most surprising thing is Vivian got a friend, and that too on her very first day of school. Being lived in a place where she had no friends to support her and protect her from bullies and a mother who is so busy to show her love, it was so much fun to walk with her new friend in the great hall filled with a lot of people chatting and laughing and more importantly no bullies, she assumed.

They both were so late to arrive, the seats are almost full and it was difficult to look at a seat which was not taken. When glancing the great hall to find a place to sit, she heard Sam say that there’s an empty seat. “Yeah, sure” as she looked at the empty bench in the corner, “We’ll go there” she smiled brightly at Sam.

As they both took a seat at the Hufflepuff table, she placed her bag beside her. Vivian had a great appetite when it comes to food and her mouth watered when she looked at the lunch. Placing some pork chops, sausages, roasted potatoes, chips, strawberries and rice pudding on her plate, she peeked at Sam’s plate when she said she had enough. “That’s all!?” she looked at Sam with wide eyes, it would never satiate the blonde’s hunger. Maybe it was too loud, laughing nervously “Sorry” but she was sure that very few would’ve heard it in that noisy place.

Vivian collected so much food on her plate that Samantha was surprised that it didn't fall of her bord. "Yes, that's all. For now. After I have eaten this, I'll take a salad, a tosti with water." Samantha turned towards her back and got something out of it. "And most importantly this," Samantha held up a 4 mars bars and a box of Bertie's Botts Every Flavour Beans that she had bought in the train. "If you want some we can share, I have more than enough."

She loved candy and couldn't go a day without it. Since she now was at school and her mom wasn't watching over her, she could eat whatever she wanted. Her mom had a dislike towards Sam's addiction to candy. She always said that Samantha had to eat healthy, but her daughter never listened.

"I never take to much food in one round, because if it turns out I am not that hungry we would have to trow it away. Trowing food away is a real waste. So that is why I take this, she pointed to the salade, tosti and candy, "later." In the first 9 years of Samantha's live they always had to be careful with the money they had. Her parents weren't wealthy at all, they had to make sure that they didn't waste any money. When they moved to the UK for Samuels, Samantha's dad, job thing had become easier with money. But still the family was used to be mindful about their expenses.

"Where are you from?" Samantha was curious, she wanted to get to know Vivian. The blond girl had something about her, Samantha couldn't turn away from her. Vivian was very pretty, even more than Anne, Sam's older sister. Samantha wasn't the type to give compliments, but if she was she would have told Vivian that she was really pretty.

The brunette started to eat her food. "This food is really good! I wonder how they make it, they have to make so much for all the students here. The chef must be really good."

Samantha looked around in the great hall. She still couldn't believe she was here at a school for witchcraft and wizardry. The ceiling of the hall was breathtaking, it looked like there was no ceiling at all, just the sky. Students of all ages were talking and laughing with each other and Samantha's heart filled with joy. She was here, she was a witch, she just had a class about magic and it wasn't a dream, right? She pinched herself, just to make sure she really was there.

"This is so amazing, I really am here! Isn't it great?" She looked at her new made friend with the biggest smile ever. "We are witches, we are at Hogwarts!"

Food is love, love is food. What is more important than food? Literally nothing. Her eyes glittered as she looked at her plate full of delicious recipes and automatically closed as her nose caught the aroma of the food. It was brilliant, hats off to the chef here. Listening to Sam, Vivian bolted down the food into her mouth because of the insufficient time for her to finish the lunch. The girls had spent more time in the class forgetting about the lunch but Vivian would starve if she eats so little, at least she thinks she would and at the same time she has to talk with Sam.

Too much work, right? So, she decided to gulp down as much as possible now and nodded to Sam as she talked about food. Just when she thought that Sam eats healthy, the brunette showed her candies, she smiled slightly at Sam, swallowing the food, “I- ah, that’s okay, I don’t.... eat chocolates” she shocked her head as she finished. But she had no control to say no to the box Sam showed as it didn’t look like chocolate, “Maybe that one... is that nice?” she pointed her finger at that box and looked at Sam with curious eyes.

As Sam talked about throwing away food, Vivian nodded as she continued, “Yes, I agree... even I don’t like to waste food.” she felt so bad about the thrown away food, it is so bad, “One should know the value of food... people who throw away food has no heart” shaking her head, she muttered as she took another spoonful. Vivian is quite rich but she still knows the value of good food and she knows that many in this world suffer to have just one bite.

“Me?- I am from Manchester” she smiled at Sam, “living with my Mom” tho she already told this in the class, she still repeated not knowing what to say about herself. Was there anything that she could say? She didn’t know and looked at Sam, blinking rapidly wanting to say some more about herself, “Well... ah! I have no friends in muggle world” she blurted out and flinched, she didn’t want to say that but it was so sudden, “oh! Sorry, I just- I just” she shrugged not able to come up with words.

Vivian opened her eyes wide in surprise, “Wow! I thought the same... the chef is so brilliant” she nodded her head in admiration as she tasted the food with love that can be seen clearly in her eyes and the way her mouth readied itself to consume it and her head shaking with the inaudible rhythm, Until she saw Sam exclaimed, the blonde was all smiles as she looked at her new friend smiling so brightly, it was brighter than before, “Yes! and it’s not a dream! We’re witches!”, the blonde chuckled. They both lived like a muggle all these years, so it was easier for the blonde to understand how Sam is feeling.

"You don't like chocolate?!" Samantha's eyes narrowed and she looked questioning at Vivian. "Did I hear that right? People who don't like chocolate can not be trusted" The young girl smiled, making clear it was a joke.

"Owhh yes this one." Samantha held up the box of Bertie's Botts Every Flavour Beans. "It is wizarding candy, I got it in the train. I have never had it before that. It has like all different kind of tastes. Good and bad ones! At first I didn't know why you would like it, but it is so much fun to try all the different tastes, you never know what you are going to get!"

"Manchester, I have never been there!" Samantha hadn't been in many places really. Her family only traveled when needed. They would only go to other cities to visit family or friends.

Vivian apologized for what? That she didn't have any friends? "Well, who needs them! You are now here and I am sure you will make many friends, you have already made one, so you are doing great!" Samantha smiled, she had also made an other friend. She hoped her and Vivian would stay friends for a long time. Vivian was really nice and sweet.

“Wow! I thought the same... the chef is so brilliant” Vivian nodded, she seemed to like the food just as much as Samantha, if not even more. It was funny, that they had both thought the same thing. "You know what they say, great minds think alike."

The brunette wasn't the only one to be excited that she was a witch, Vivian was also happy to be here. Samantha felt like her and Vivian could understand each other, and the fact that they both were clueless about magic before made it easy for Sam to connect with Vivian.

On hearing that Samantha has trust issues with chocolate haters, Vivian nearly choked on her food and had a horrific expression on her face. Wait, no, this is not what she expected. Sam is supposed to be her friend or that’s what she thought, not a person who would dislike her first. Oh god! It was a joke, the blonde chuckled and shook her head in amusement. Just before a very few seconds of the smile, all the negative thoughts filled her head, with a grin “I thought you were serious, oh my god!” , after all, she could hope Sam would be a good friend to her.

Fixing her gaze on the box held by Sam, she listened to her with a nod, “Actually I was scared to buy anything from the train, I don’t know why but... let me try one now” with a smile stretched upon her lips, she would take a bean from the box. Taking a long breath “I hope this one has a good taste”, she narrowed her eyes as she hesitantly put one of the candies inside her mouth. As she started to chew, her face turned a little red as she flinched, “My tongue is burning, but I don’t think it’s fire, no” she shook her head before continuing, “I think it’s pepper, right, it is” puffing and blowing because of the peppery feel in her tongue before gulping down some water.

An uncontrollable smile spread across her face when Samantha counted as her friend, “Thanks!”, it was so nice of Sam and Vivian was glad to be called as her friend. The blonde hopes they remain friends till their school life ends, no, till their last breath. Well, the last word can be a little exaggerated but that’s how she feels and that’s how she sees things. When the blonde starts liking someone which is a very few now, she wishes them to be with her until her end no matter what.

“Great minds think alike...” she mouthed after Sam as she took the last bite from her plate, the blonde didn’t know this saying but she likes it. Samantha is going to be a great person, she’s nice, she's brainy and all but it’s still a doubt for her if she’s great, of course she is not, she chuckled at her own thought, this kid is having fun degrading herself. No, she is not but she feels she’s not good enough.

Vivian's horrified expression made Samantha giggle. Vivian had though she was serious! The blond finally realized that Sam was just joking.

"Yes take one!" Samantha held the box closer to Vivian. She was eager to know what her new friend though about the candy. "Pepper? I haven't had pepper yet! I would love to try pepper!" Samantha loved weird candy. She preferred sweet candy, but trying out new things would never harm.

Before Samantha started to eat her eggs, she threw some every flavored beans in her mouth. She hoped to get pepper, but she didn't. Or maybe she did, but she couldn't taste it very well, since she had eaten 5 beans at the same time. Maybe the beans would have tasted nice separate, but they didn't mixed. Samantha followed Vivian's example as she drank some water.

After Sam had finished her first plate, she started to fill her second one. A salad, a tosti and her candy were now in front of her. Out of the blue Samantha asked Vivian: "Can you talk other languages then English?" The reason why Sam had asked it was to tell her new friend all about the fact that she could speak Dutch. So she could impress Vivian and tell her all about her life in the Netherlands. But she didn't want to just randomly tell Vivian that, she wanted Vivian to ask about it.

” Thanks!” she smiled as Sam allowed her to take one of the beans. Wiping her wet eyes as it started watering when the pepper effect started on her tongue, she smiled sheepishly at her friend, “I am not crying, it’s because of pepper... I mean the candy” . The blonde loves spicy food more than sweets but her body can’t take more spicy food, automatically her eyes or nose, sometimes both would start to water just after few seconds of biting but she still want to finish it and she does.

Vivian chuckled at Sam when she started chewing five candies at a time, raising her eyebrows slightly “What flavour- I mean what flavours did you get?”, as she moved her head a little forward to her. The five flavours must have been mixed together and give either a wonderful taste or a dreadful taste. The blonde wanted to know how she felt after tasting it so that next time when she eats she could decide whether to eat one or many at a time.

As Vivian finished her lunch so fast, she waited for Sam to finish hers so that she could either talk to her or leave for the next class. She didn’t want to disturb her friend by talking when she’s having her lunch unless she starts. Which she did, “Mmm no, it’s the only language I know” and added, “I think you must’ve known Dutch too, right?” she narrowed her eyes with a little tilt of her head. Sam told her that her relatives live there, so she believed that she knows two languages.

After she had washed away the awfull taste of the five beans Samantha anwered Vivian's question. "I know I got banana and maybe earwax, but thats all I can geus. Everything is mixed, it all tastes the same. And it isn't even a good taste! It is horrible!"

Sam shook her head, "I am never going to this again! I also don't advice you to do this, or you need to like this taste. If you do you are really weird and you don't seem weird, so I don't think you will like it."

The young girl quickly placed the beans back in her bag. She didn't want to see them again, at least not today or they will ruining her hunger.

Vivian had paid attention! She had remembered that Sam had said something about the Netherlands. When Samantha heared her new friends question she grinned. This was excatly where she wanted the conversation to go to.

"Yes, I do! I grew up in the Netherlands, so I grew up talking Dutch. Except with my mother, she learned me English really early on. That's why I don't have a Dutch accent. You should hear Dutch accents! They are really funny. My dad still has a little accent and it is so much fun to listen to." Samantha's mom is English and was a English teacher on a high school, so she had found it very important that her daugthers could speak English.

"What kind of job does your mom do?" Sam had paid attention, Vivian's dad had passed away. So she made sure not to ask about Vivian 'her parents', Sam would only ask about 'her mom'.

“Ear wax?! That must be definitely horrible” the blonde chuckled at her friend. Banana is a good flavour but Ear wax! Surely no, she felt better now thinking that she got pepper which isn’t a bad flavour after all. “And wait a sec! How did you know it’s ear wax?” as she bit her lips to control her laugh as she blurted out. Oh no! She shouldn’t have asked it out... but how come? Has she tasted it before? But she can lie now, Vivian didn’t expect her to answer and even if she did, she’s not going to cross question her.

“Oh, But it’s so nice to know more than one language, I always wanted to learn another language” she smiled brightly at Samantha. The only language she knows is English and she never had a family to teach her more things. Her only family is her mother and she is a busy woman. Sam must have had a lovely family she thought to herself as she smiled at her friend out of nowhere. How does it feel to have a big family? Or just father?

Maybe one day she would get to experience life with family when she gets married and such. She has to wait for it for many years but still, she couldn’t get a father, could she? A family, family, family, she already has a family but they just didn’t want her and they know they have a granddaughter, right? The blonde was lost in thoughts until Sam asked her about her mother, “Ah, she’s a doctor” breaking out from her thoughts. “What do your parents do?” as she rested her chin on her hand.
