Chess Combat (Match 1)

Two flipendoes hit her, one her own and one from Rodion. In fact, she was confident the only reason Ileen’s had not hit her was that she had been staggered. Then came the wave of fire, and there was no dodging it. Enough so that her shoulder was on fire.
Santario was out of breath and in more pain than she had ever been in, in any duel. Part of her wished Ileen had hit her and put her out of her misery. However, the other and much stronger part of her told her she needed to stay and fight it till the very end. If she was going to go down, she needed to make them work for it, even if it was only for one more round.

Almost comical, really. The girl that was supposed to be the captain of the almighty Viridian Vipers hit herself with her own spell, not once, but twice. She should be fired, really. “Ooh! Embarrassing.” He mumbled to himself. It was a bad round both for his team and the opponent’s. Spells were missed, but that brunette girl was quite fast. A good candidate for him to take a mental note of her strategies and techniques. The battle isn’t over yet. High chance that the team will win. He was sure of it.

Milo cringed yet again. This time spells had been cast successfully, but not from their own team besides Rodion. He glanced to where his spell landed and the target, a girl, looked to be in immense pain. A wave of sympathy washed over him, but he hadn't been the one to throw any spells her way, it seemed her wand was doing most of the damage, besides Rodion. "Nice work, keep it up!" He'd call to the boy now next to him since a Flippendo had sent him back a space. Looked like he was still standing, for now, so all was good.Playing as iNPC Milosh Rehnquist
His own spell had.. well not backfired on him but almost hit Jan. With a quick alarmed look in his eyes he shouted. "Rogue spell coming your way, duck Jan!" It seemed the boy had heard, or perhaps saw the spell make a sharp direction change towards him and managed to dodge it, leaving himself unscathed. Milo let out a relieved sigh. More disasters had been avoided.
Speaking of disasters, Karilyna was now on fire herself. His eyes gazed over at the girl who had cast the spell. Well woop dee doo, she finally got lucky either that or Karilyna used all her luck up on dodging. "Hang in there Karilyna!" He'd call to the girl, hoping she wasn't too bad off.
Speaking of fire, Alisa sent a strong blast of fire towards the girl who was already pretty badly crippled on the other side. Yikes for her. She'd be down within a few rounds by the looks of it, but hey never judge a book by it's cover, she could turn around and surprise the whole team. He shook his head, clearing his mind and focusing on actions for the next round. "Alright, not too bad, we can recover, bring it on." He let out a small smile, feeling encouraged.

Three wands were pointed at her. Three. She'd never had to dodge three spells before simultaneously, and as agile as she was, she seriously doubted she could pull that off. It wasn't even a completely thought-through strategy, her decision to lower her wand more instinct to divert all focus to what was deemed most important; after all, there wasn't much time to look around and assess everything from the moment you could tell which way the wands were angled to the casts being off.
Somehow, she didn't have to dodge three spells. Or even one spell, for that matter. Two of the spells didn't make it out of her opponents' wands and the other, likely by nature of being aimed over two teammates, nearly struck the Rook, coming nowhere near her. She considered casting now that nothing was coming her way, but she didn't have a spell in mind, it would be rushed before the next volley of spells, and her attention was already elsewhere.
In a duel, or most sports, simply watching wasn't helpful. Sure, you needed to be aware of your surroundings, but looking on as things unfolded without doing anything to affect the tides was useless. She just couldn't help it, couldn't help but stare on as Santario was hit with one, two, three spells. A Flipendo from the annoying Rook, then her own backfired Flipendo for the second time today, and then fire. Another spell, accidental friendly fire, came somewhat close; maybe Ileen's attention had been drawn to Santario, too.
Shoot. Her teammate looked terrible. Of course she did; Bridget wasn't sure what the exact count was, but she'd been hit with so many spells. Maybe too many, and that fire spell had caught. This was nowhere near as bad as when Santario had fallen down that well, and she knew this was a duel, that she'd be fine. Logic just really wasn't doing much to curb her concern. "Hang on, okay?" An instruction, or perhaps a plea, not that words were very helpful.

INTERACTIONS: Guest Team
One mistake was acceptable, two was not and if this went on for a third round, Jan might as well chucked his wand at his foes and hoped for the best. His eyes registered shock and disbelief as his spell for the second time completely veered off course whether it was due to the agility of the other team or maybe it was his bloody accuracy. He gave his wand a few flicks as if hoping it would jump-start it or something. "Now is not the time to be playing these games with me." He hissed in an undertone to it clearly frustrated that all of his efforts had brought him everything but victory. They had been on the brink of defeat and if they didn't make some ground soon, a victory was looking very unlikely. However, the boy had very little time to worry about the well-being of his wand and whether it would be better to resort to more aggresive tactics because frankly, he was running out of ideas.
The shouted warning came his way just in the nick of time as he ducked his hand feeling the brush of spell shoot over just barely as he cast a glance Milo's way. "Let's try not to take each other out, yeah?" Granted, he knew the boy hadn't intentionally gone out of his way, sooner or later, a spell was going to go bad but he wasn't planning on being on the recieiving end when that happened. They were already hurting badly, they didn't need to lose anyone and speaking of which. His eyes watched as two spells slammed not into one of their but one of the Hogwarts kids his lips curling into a smirk. Perhaps they were about to catch a break and he wasn't about to lose this chance. They just needed a couple of more just like that and they would be well on their way to victory, he was sure of it.

Damn! It was like being under a jinx. It was as if something or someone wanted to prevent Ileen from hitting her target. Again, her spell succeeded flawlessly, not quite as strong as the last times, but still. This time she not only did not hit her target, no, it was even worse. Her spell veered off and shot towards her own co-captain!
Ileen's brown eyes widened in shock as she stared at Santario, who, she now realized, already looked very battered. Her spell might finish her off!
After all, her accuracy seemed to be as pathetic in her own ranks as it was against her opponents, and the girl managed to escape Ileen's spell.
Ileen was about to sigh of relief when a familiar scent hit her nostrils and, seized with dread, she sped around to Santario, who was standing almost right next to her. The girl was on fire.
Instantly, memories of the biting and burning pain rushed through her body and she gritted her teeth to subdue a hiss. The healer in her once again struggled with the rules of dueling. But this was not the time to struggle. This was the time to act!

Chess Combat (Match 1)
The atmosphere was tense, things were now quickly escelating in this great duel of international students vs the proud students of Hogwarts. The organized chess battle slowly seemed to be devlolving into a more primal fight. One where there was little mercy to be shown to the opponent and great brutality, but that is what combat on this scale was about.
Before he cast himself, Alexander could not help but winch as he saw two spells impact against Santario, that had got to hurt. Something which was quite evident as she started to look quite bloody and burnt from the spells that were raining down on her. Which just meant that he had to perform even better to compensate, though the annoying tension in his head was rising. Alexander quickly breathed in and out, focusing on the sensation of casting the spells. When he felt the perfect equilibrium Alexander released the spell. Feeling satisfaction as he incanted "Flipendo" and saw how a strong burst of magic went towards his opponent. A sensation that was further enhanced by seeing it make contact with the target.
For a moment there was triumph
Then there was an immense headache, perhaps partially due to the strength of the magical spell. His head just hurt so much, ergh why couldn't he see anything. Why was breathing so hard and why did his nose feel so heavy ? Ergh such a pain.

Well then... things certainly were starting to pick up now, in both the best and worst ways. Thankfully, her spell finally found it's target. It was quite the satisfying sight to see flames licking away at the opponent that seemed to have finally run out of luck evading her spells.
However, on the other hand, some spells, be it intentional or not, seemed to find a common target. San. Who at this point was looking worse for wear. Wow though did that girl seem to have a heck of a lot more fight in her then Illowy had given her credit before. Not to say she thought of her housemate as weak, but certainly she didn't realize quite how resilient she was. It didn't seem Illowy was the only one concerned, as Bridget's face seemed to have a similar feeling as she tried to encourage the co-captain.
"Yer fine, San. Yer just fine." she assured, not allowing her voice to waver in her concern. After all, one would be surprised how far you could get if you convinced yourself you were perfectly okay to press on. The mind was a powerful thing, "Jus' keep on yer feet and you'll be fine."

Why. Why did this have to happen? Karilyna knew she was getting too worked up; she knew she was falling into a trap that would leave her performance significantly impaired. See, duelling was an art that required the utmost concentration, which was a lesson that she, being a somewhat restless child, had learned the hard way. Being so annoyed while duelling, then, was clearly a terrible idea - but she couldn't help it. Already, she had curbed her irritation quite well, swallowing it down even as she failed, time after time. It seemed that this was the last straw for her, though, the mishap that finally wrote itself in her expression.
Incendio Duo was one of the more difficult spells to cast, and that truth decided to make itself known at what was quite possibly one of the worst times for the girl. Previously, upon casting the spell, she'd only missed her target, the spell veering off and colliding harmlessly with a spot of grass some ways away from the gameboard. This time, though, her wand had responded to her cast only with a pathetic fizzle, then sputtering out. In other words, she'd really and truly failed. To make things worse, she was too distracted by her mistake to notice a spell cutting through the air, shooting towards her, and dodged a moment too late. Despite the speed at which she ducked, almost losing her balance in a last-ditch attempt to avoid it, the spell hit true, green flames blossoming and spreading over her t-shirt. Incendio Duo, the exact spell she'd just failed so miserably at. How ironic.
Thoroughly annoyed, she let out a low hiss, biting her lip hard even as she desperately fought to maintain her composure. It was admittedly a difficult battle for the girl, never one to bottle up emotion, and made even more so by the fact that things were beginning to get unbearably hot, the heat and pain springing unwanted moisture to her eyes. But no matter the circumstance, she couldn't allow herself to give the opposing team the satisfaction of seeing her irritation. Besides, she could handle this.
At her queen's encouragement, she nodded and flashed a smile- not weak, yet not with all its typical brightness- not trusting herself with speech. A thousand words were spiraling through her head: snarky remarks, encouragement, appreciation, utterings of annoyance. There was absolutely no telling what might accidentally tumble out if she didn't keep her lips tightly sealed; so, given that and the fact that she had a tendency to put her foot in her mouth, Karilyna quickly decided it'd be best to just stay quiet right now. It was uncharacteristic of her, but didn't that describe everything happening right now? Never had she done so poorly in a duel, and rarely was she so conscious of her impression on others - she was eager to build a name for herself, after all, and this really wasn't helping her case.
Perhaps focus was what she needed. It was growing more difficult to find it with each passing moment, with her frustration mounting, but for now, she forced herself to concentrate on the game and not on her past performance, not on the flames licking at her clothing and at her skin. She just hoped it would pay off.
