Paige opened the door to the library, and the silence of the big room seemed to be the loudest thing. Despite her attempts not to come here a lot, she has made a habit of coming here for a place to do her homework. Though, she wondered why she couldn't just do it in her dorm. If she was doing herbology homework, it would be the perfect place. But the more she thought about it, the more she realized it was just better to come here. If she tried to sit or lay anywhere in her common room, she would get super cozy and most likely sleep or get distracted. Who knows, she might even end up playing exploding snap or wizard chess. So that's why she came here. Less distractions, more recources because her notes were very bad, because of her handwriting. She could rarely make out what she writes.

She searched the room, and was surprised to find all the tables were very full. Books littered the tables and the floors around them as students sat with their noses in books and quills in hands. Paige shook her head. That was an ink spill waiting to happen. Apparently many students wanted to get their homework knocked out today of all days, instead of relaxing or putting their lives in terrible danger, which one of the two always seemed to be happening at this school.
She was about to leave the library, but she spotted a desk. It was like angelic music started playing as the sunlight streamed through the windows onto the table. She made a beeline for it, walking at a quick pace in case someone else saw this free table, a gift from heaven.

She placed her bag in a chair and pulled out another one. How nice, no one at sitten here. She hesitated and searched the chairs for some goo or anything. Nothing. The chairs were in perfect shape. She crouched down, looking under the table. No dung bombs, no lose animals... no bee hives under the table. She looked around. Why had no sat here? She couldn't think of why. Maybe no one had looked hard enough, or maybe the occupants of this table recently left, and no one noticed because they were concentrating. Whatever it was, Paige was grateful. She sat in the
chair she had pulled out and took out some books from her bag.

One book fell out, and Paige glanced at it. Her notebooks for dances... she liked to plan dances and sketch them out and write moves, it was a hobby. She shook her head. No, homework first. That later. She glanced at it again. With a sigh, she took her notebook and took out a quill. This first, homework later.

Despite her promises to not procrastinate and leave everything to the last minute, until she couldn't possibly put anything off any longer, Maggie was behind on a deadline. Again. A new start in a holy freaking magic wizard school should've meant a big change, a means of actually starting fresh and doing her homework when she was prompted.

Of course, it couldn't possibly be expected of Maggie to actually put forth any desire for that change. No, that would be completely ridiculous and entirely un-Maggie.

The rules of the library were simple and consisted of showing at least some semblance of quiet to allow other students to focus on their own work. Maggie disregarded this, unsurprisingly, and all but barreled into the crowded library. "'scuze me, pardon me, my bad," she hissed as she moved with all the elegance and grace of a bull in a china shop.

Just her luck! Every table was full! Ordinarily, Maggie would have no trouble squeezing herself in between the drivels of other students, weaseling her way into hard-to-reach places and making herself right at home where she wasn't welcome, but it just seemed impossible today.

Oh, shoot, what to do, what to do.

Then; a haven. Paradise, heaven, an oasis in the middle of the savannah, a mostly empty table...

... that one Paige Grant had already staked her claim on.

Maggie had half a mind to turn away and leave. Nope, nope, not Paige Grant. Anyone but Paige Grant.

But she was a stubborn girl, wouldn't back down easily, and if this meant having to share a desk with someone she detested to prove a point? So be it.

The books came down hard on the table before her and Maggie yanked out one of the seats without so much as a 'hello, could I sit here, do you mind'. Grant didn't deserve so much as a wayward glance.

After all, ignorance was bliss, wasn't it?

Her quill flew across the paper as she planned a dance she's had in the back of her head for days now. It was coming out perfectly... she could hear the music in her head... picture the dance. This was creativity at it's finest. This was I'd rather not do my homework at it's finest. This was something Paige loved. She especially loved how it all came together so well. The sunlight beaming on the table seemed like a spotlight on the dancers in Paige's head. It was amazing.

She tapped her chin, knowing something was missing from the dance. It needed a flare. A... something. Something that screamed "power". She felt like she was drawing straws here, thinking for anything that might make it better. Frowning, she propped up the book and reread it. She turned the book sideways to look at her little sketches from another point of view. That's how it worked in movies. In big hero 6, Hero got his great idea while being held upside down. So maybe if she turned it some more...

BAM! A loud thump that had no place in a library came from the other side of the table. She dropped her book, and her ink threatened to splash over the edge as it splashed in its container. She steadied it with her hands, frowning. She picked up her book from the ground, placing it on the table. She was taking her time to confront whoever this rude person was. They could wait. Calmly, she made sure her book wasn't ruined. She set it on the table, and put the top on her ink container so it wouldn't fall.

She looked up.

Her heart stopped.

Margerate F-ing Hawkins. Of course. Paige shouldn't be surprised. She shouldn't. She glared with gritted teeth. "This. Is. A library. I'm not sure you know what that is. A quiet place. Just like a bathroom is meant for using the bathroom? Get your head checked girl!" She hissed. She looked at the Slytherin. So she was just sitting down here? Doing whatever she wants? Did she think she was a queen or something? Paige smiled a fake sweet smile.

"Sorry, this table is full. You can't sit here." She batted her eyelashes. "However, I think you might find the ground rather comfortable. You know. All the way across the room. In the corner. Behind the trash can. Away from me."

"Ha. Funny. You're funny," Maggie sighed, opening up her potions book and resting her chin on her palm. She didn't have time for this. Didn't have time for Paige Grant, in general. "Anyone ever suggested comedy as a suitable career path for you?"

This was a language that Maggie understood completely. Banter, sarcasm. The easy way that a sharp word flowed off her tongue. It was much more her element, her style than most kids at Hogwarts chanced to speak.

Something that Maggie had noticed in her time since being admitted into the school was just how formal some of these kids were. For instance; her friend Ming! Fun guy, really. Bit bland and neurotic, but he was fun nonetheless. Spoke like a grown marauder. It made her feel out of place, sometimes. As if she truly didn't belong here, belong in the world that she'd so desperately wanted to fit into.

No matter. She had more important things to tend to.

"If you got such a problem, you're more than welcome to leave," Maggie stated, pursing her lips and tapping her fingertips against the page of her book. Paige Grant could stand up and go halfway across the world, for all she cared.

So sorry about the wait for this reply! Life got more hectic than expected.

Paige raised her eyebrows, summoning every ounce of sass she had... ""I know." She knew Maggie was being sarcastic, very well, in fact. Sarcasm was like a second language to Paige that only some could speak fluently. Apparently, Maggie was one of those people. If any thing this made Paige hate her more because it was something they had in common. Ugh. I mean, we also breathe the same air... Make that two things in common. Gross, this day was getting worse by the minute. "No, actually. I'd rather do something more useful."

In honesty, she's never really thought about it. "But you? You should be a clown. Some of the things you do make no sense what so ever, but are great to laugh at." She said, matter-of-factly. That was the best come back she had, at the moment. Shame. Paige sighed, rolled her eyes. This would be difficult.

How annoying Maggie was persistent. Paige glanced at Maggie with narrowed eyes, clearly annoyed that Maggie was staying. "You know I would." She started. "But I came her first. There for, I have claimed it." She paused, looking to see how her words would affect Maggie.

"Like I said, this table is full." She pointed to every empty seat, speaking as she did. "Invisible Bob, Invisible Olivia, Invisible Kathy, Invisible Jake, and you're sitting on invisible Stacy." She listed these names out of nowhere, being totally ridiculous.. She knew it. "How rude of you."

God, did Paige Grant ever shut up? Ever considered that her voice sounded like nails on a chalkboard and her inflection made Maggie want to take a trip to the hospital wing?

"Thanks. I'd actually love to be a comedian, so happy to hear that you think I'm funny!" Unknowingly, Paige Grant was making her day. Maybe the girl was good for something, after all! "Not gonna move, though, nice try. I actually quite like this seat. Grown rather attached," she smoothed a palm over the back curve of the chair she was sat at, glancing at Paige.

Oh, wow, Paige Grant was seven years old, apparently. Invisible Stacy. How sweet. "Yeah, well, me and Invisible Stacy are dating, so she doesn't mind much," Maggie droned. Invisible Stacy was completely fine. "Ain't that right, Invisible Stacy, my love?"

No response. Maggie went red at the realization of how stupid it was to even be enabling Paige with any sort of going along with the facade. Foolish, foolish, foolish.

"Anyway. I'm not moving, I have homework to do," she excused, looking back down into her book. If Paige Grant could just stop talking, shut her stupid mouth, that would be fantastic. It would be amazing, awesome if Maggie were able to focus on anything other than the sound of a nasally second year who clearly had an issue with manners. "I assume your mommy never taught you to share as a baby, huh? You should go ahead and enroll yourself in a mommy and me class to get that fixed, I think."

What an irritance.

Paige rolled her eyes holding her inkpot in her hands, making sure it was sealed. It gave her something to do with her hands as she looked at Maggie Hawkins, the girl who was a jerk. "People would laugh more at your idiocy, and you're so dumb you'd think they were laughing with you." She shot back, frowning her eyes as she leaned forward. She crossed her legs, brushing her hair behind her shoulders. Usually being mean to people made her feel sick in the stomach, but with this girl it was different. Hit her, shove her, tease her if you must. But when you block her from using the bathroom when she has to go, she will never ever forget it.

Ever.

Paige held her ink pot in her hand, her nostrils flaring. However, she laughed at Maggie's next comment, before realizing what she was doing. She clamped her mouth shut. "Yeah well go snuggle somewhere else, then. " She spoke in a warning tone, indicating she could be dangerous when she was mad. Very, in fact.

She huffed and rolled her eyes. She was so angry, she squeezed the ink bottle top, and twisted it slightly. She set it on the table, glaring. "Go Do your homework somewhere else!" She sat this so angrily that her elbow banged the table as she sat back down. The ink toppled over, spilling the ink all over the place.

She watched the ink spread down the table to Maggie's work with a gasp. She didn't know whether to stop it or let it happen.

Maggie had never had any issue with being mean. Of course, for certain people, she felt bad. Her good friend Pippa, for instance. Best friends since childhood until unfortunate circumstances led to a rather nasty falling out and the ensuing issue with walls, but Maggie had never enjoyed being mean to her. Always said sorry in an instant. Paige Grant, though? An absolute nuisance. An irritating, insolent girl who had no business getting in Maggie's way.

It was just her luck. Out of the hundreds of students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Maggie just got landed with Paige Grant, of all people, to sit with for study time.

Didn't matter, though. Paige laughed at something she had intentionally said, and that was good as to surrender for Maggie. She couldn't help the ghost of a smile that settled over her lips before her head was ducked again, staring straight down at her books.

Not for long.

Ink, dark and cool, trailed down the table and soaked into her Herbology homework.

Maggie couldn't even speak, couldn't protest or scream, just stared at the darkness bleeding into the page like a paper towel soaked up a spot of spilled milk.

"What is your problem?" Maggie finally mentioned, clenching her fists and looking down at the ruined homework with sharp tears beading in the corners of her eyes. Wonderful!

Paige watched in a mixture of horror, and what she could only describe as an ugly twisted feeling. The feeling that surely could come only from the devil on her shoulder, it was the feeling that wanted the ink to destroy Maggie's work. The feeling wanted to watch with an evil joy as Maggie's hardwork was ruined, all ruined with black ink. Her work would be a mess, her paper would be soggy. It would be karma, yes, and it would show Maggie to leave Paige alone. Maggie would walk away, and Paige would have peace.

But her feeling of horror was overwhelming, it flooded over her, mixing with guilt like paint did with paint. The result was always a mess, and you couldn't change it back. Her feelings of guilt and horror raged a war with the devil on her shoulder, and Paige stood there, frozen, as the dark ink reached out to the crisp paper with Maggie's hard work, written neatly. Her guilt won over, and Paige blinked. Her heart raced, and she jumped to pick up the ink bottle before it spilled any more, but the damage was done. "No, no no no!"

Paige ripped papers from her book, and struggled to soak up the rest of the ink that hadn't ruined Maggie's worked. She frantically dumped her bag, looking for something... something that could help. She grabbed tissues, wiped up the ink, and dabbed Maggie's paper with a clean one. "I'm so so so sorry!"

Her hands were covered in ink, the ink splattered her clothes and Maggie's work. "I didn't do it on purpose! I swear!"

─────Oh, Paige absolutely meant it. She had meant to soil Maggie's homework, meant to absolutely ruin her chances at a good grade. Make her start all over, lose house points over something stupid. All a big facade to incriminate Maggie, get her in trouble for something that was far from her fault.

Maggie Hawkins decided at that moment; she hated Paige Grant. So much. Could not stand the witch that was Paige Grant.

"Stop, stop, just stop it!" The flurry of paper everywhere, trying to mop up the mess that was staining both Maggie's paper and her fingertips as she frantically fought to get it up off the paper. No luck; it was no use. Her own fingers weren't enough to get the mess up, and the papers she was using to get the ink off weren't working, either.

It had already seeped into the paper fibers, staining the very bonds that held the paper together.

Maggie was screwed.

"Is that what you wanted? Really?" Maggie gestured broadly to her papers, now laying in a heap on the library study table, dark with wet ink. The droplets and little diluted puddles of the ink lay dormant on the tabletop, reflecting the light and dancing almost tormentingly at Maggie. "I'm not as dumb as you think I am. I know you did it on purpose. Because you've got something against me? You wanna get my house points docked for not having my homework on time?" She sniffled. "Nice going. Real good."

With that, she scooped her remaining materials up, turned on her heel, and started out of the library.

The room was at peace once more.
