Chess Combat (Match 1)

The Durmstrang boy blinked as only one spell successfully hit their opponents, his own fizzling out for the first time this game. Luckily the other team seemed to be just as.. well unlucky as they were so no more damage was done. Yet. He let out a small groan, this was their time to shine and alas their wands disagreed. Alright time to try it again, maybe this time at a less aggressive approach.Playing as iNPC Milosh Rehnquist
The only thing was that Alexander, their Queen was blocked again. He hummed, he had Flippendo'ed him once, he could surely do it again. His eyes narrowed. Perhaps there was another strategy he could take. The blonde calculated the board. There were several ways this could go. It all depended on the other team though. Well, he never was about playing it safe. He dipped his head to his teammates and gave them a reassuring grin, even a small thumbs up to Rodion who had finally shut up the girl who was teasing him. He let out a small snort of amusement.
Alright, things could be looking up if, so help them, the other team didn't become ultra lucky all of the sudden.
Time to start praying.

It was so frustrating. Ileen was on fire. She felt how powerful her spell was again as she performed it. She never had casted that well ever before. But it seemed like she was doomed to miss her target. This time it wasn’t a flame but the beam of her flipendo that missed the boy who blocked her way.
The young girl wasn’t the kind of person to let her emotions vocalize or show but an attentive observer would notice how her facial expression became a tad darker. She gritted her teeth and glared at the boy, more mad at herself than him.
And it was good she was looking that direction. Just a second later a spell flew her queen casted by the boy she had aimed before.
Fortunately, her luck had not completely run out and she managed to dodge this on. It seemed like a match with countless misses so far.
Ileen bit her lower lip and glanced over her shoulder at her own team. It was time to turn this around.

A lucky day, indeed. He dodged a spell and was able to hit the raven haired Slytherin with a knockback jinx. Though he was a bit confused about her sudden change of target, perhaps she was way too caught up in the moment so she failed miserably. “You okay there? Perhaps you need a little nap?” The Russian was amused to see his words had some effects towards his opponent even though her unluckiness had nothing to do with his presence, but let the guy think otherwise. He then looked over to his teammate and said “Don’t worry queen Milosh, I am at your service to protect you!”

Illowy chewed a bit on her cheek; now this was just starting to get down right annoying. What was more frustrating then casting a perfect spell without a hitch, only to miss? She could just scream, but now wasn't the time to lose one's head. Not yet. They weren't even close to losing and she wasn't about to chance that by losing her temper.
"For the love of Merlin's beard." she muttered in frustration.
From the corner of her eye, she saw San get struck next by a flippendo. Ouch "Shake it off, San!" she called from her space, "The fight's still young, guys. Keep yer head in it." she tried to encourage any of her teammates the might be able to hear her. They weren't loosing, but they certainly weren't doing hot. At the very least she could try to offer some words of encouragement, if only for the sake of team moral.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

INTERACTIONS: Guest Team
Jan watched with intent eyes as the spell lifted from the tip of his wand in a ball of flame that hurtled towards his desired target at breakneck speed. At first, it would have seemed something as destructive as that would make it nearly impractical for anyone to come out of it unscathed or at least that was what the boy thought but clearly, he had either gotten too comfortable with his spellcasting or his aim was just terrible. He didn't know how it had happened but blinked his eyes in disbelief upon realizing the flames didn't even touch the other girl as he clicked his tongue in frustration. "Lucky one." He muttered a bit ticked off as he brandished his wand. Clearly, they weren't targets you could just kick back and pick off and if anything, the failure had only fueled his desire to make sure that whatever happened next would go exactly to plan. Out of everything they had thrown at the Hogwarts kids, only one had managed to find it's mark and that was a pretty shabby performance on their part.
Jan knew they were better than that. All these years of magical education and this was what they had to show for it. "Fine, if that's how you want to play this, be my guest." They couldn't dodge forever, sooner or later, they would buckler under the oncoming onslaught of spells being fired their way. Sure, the boy was sure they were capable duelists but even the most skilled wizard had his limits and it was quite diffcult to mulit-task when you had everyone's eyes set on you. Inhaling, he steadied his stance putting faith in the fact that it wasn't the end of the world just yet. Sooner or later, a spell was going to go bad but they just needed to improvise. That was all this was, improvising, something he was used too refusing to let the earlier failure mess with his head. They were still in the game and still a force to be reckoned with.

As a bolt of fire flew just past him and going out of the field Alexander realized something. That had been far too close. Even with his focus on just dodging and not casting any spells, the bolt of fire barely went past him. When it went past he could even feel a slightly warm cheek, it had been that close.
He was most glad that he had not been hit, he was already suffering from a massive headache due to that stupid snot spell and to get hit by a bolt of fire on top of that was far from ideal. It would certainly not be beneficial to his health.
After dodging the spell, Alexander looked around the field and frowned. Things seemed to be quite equal at the moment, not too many people were wounded and things could go any way at this point. There was no real indication at all of what might happen. Regardless, it was time that he got ready for the next bout of action. So Alexander readied himself.

Chess Combat (Match 1)

Today was one of these days where nothing went as you wanted it for Alisa. Why had this Chess Duell thing been so easy the first time around? Or hadn't it been easy and she'd just forgotten about the hard parts in the year since it happened? It was a possibility of course, given that they'd won and she'd done her part wonderfully by landing some devastating spells on the opposite team.RPing as iNPC Alisa Sokolova.
Another girl might have doubted her own skills at this point, but Alisa wasn't able to do that, not with something as important as duelling, not when this was the thing she excelled it, that she could lord it over her cousins that no matter what, she was better than them.
So she did what she'd always done: she got up from the ground (metaphorically, in this case), dusted off her pants, lifted her wand and got back to casting spells.

Did she actually—yes, she actually just did. She missed again. There were plenty of excuses to be made: as a rising third year, Incendio Duo was still new to her, the spell far less familiar than others and more difficult to cast, and her previous failures had clearly thrown her off. She was just about ready to use those, even if it would just be in her head and not spoken aloud. It was all true, after all, although she would try to deny it.
Karilyna typically preferred to hold herself in high regard, and she believed in her duelling ability in a way almost bordering on arrogance. Never had she done so poorly in a duel before, and so clearly she was disappointed in herself, unhappy with the almost unspeakably terrible quality of her performance. She knew she had to do better, to at least contribute to her team somehow, but that just wasn't happening—not yet, at least. The only constant thus far when comparing this to other duels she'd had before was her dodging: again, two spells came veering her way (wow, they really did want her out, didn't they?), and again, both were easily outmaneuvered.
It was comforting that she hadn't completely lost her touch, but if only her evading success could extend to her spellcasting. She hoped so, anyway.

Where previous moments had been marked by impressive dodging skills (or bad aim), this time, almost every spell had a (sometimes unexpected) result.
On both sides of the field, spells flew, but not always towards the intended target. Bridget had correctly noticed that she was in a position to be attacked by three of her opponents, and wisely chosen to forego casting to focus on evading the attacks that had to come. Only... they didn't. Perhaps it was nerves, perhaps other distraction, but both Karilyna and Jan would feel their spells fizzle at the tips of their wands, trying but failing to cast at the Slytherin girl. Milo's spell, on the other hand, was cast perfectly fine, but went otherwise terribly awry: Instead of flying towards Bridget, the burst of force suddenly veered towards his own team mate, Jan, with surprising accuracy. Luckily, the boy managed to narrowly step out of the way.
A similar thing happened on the other side of the field to Ileen. Despite her incredibly powerful spells so far, she had yet to land a hit, and it would remain that way. Her spell, meant for Rodion, took an unexpected turn and suddenly seemed to head towards Santario instead, who rather easily managed to duck out of the way.
This distraction, however, cost her, as her teammate's spell was not the only danger she faced this round. Both Rodion and Alisa had their wands aimed at the Viper's co-captain, and both spells found their mark. Even worse: Santario would also feel something off with the spell she herself was trying to cast, just a hint of a warning, with no time to react, before the Knockback Jinx exploded from the wrong end of her wand, punching into the poor girl.
Dee winced, taking half a step forward involuntarily, ready to call for a break. Santario really wasn't looking too well - battered and on fire from Alisa's spell - and for a moment, she thought the girl would fall. But she didn't. With what seemed to be impressive willpower, Santario remained on her feet, although she likely wouldn't stay that way for long, considering the flames eating at her shoulder. Her eyes sharp, watching the Slytherin, Dee stepped back again. It reminded her of her own duels that Santario had moderated: It appeared the two girls really drew bad luck towards each other.
With the general chaos surrounding them, Illowy and Alexander were left to cast and aim in relative peace. Both spells - a Knockback Jinx meant for Rodion, and a burst of flames for Karilyna - found their target. The young international student was left stumbling back a field, driven by the force of the spell, while Karilyna had to deal with an arm aflame, green, hungry flames burning through her clothing.
And finally, just after this small success, Alexander would lose the fight against the curse that he had been battling with since the start of the match. He would not fall unconscious, but he would need a moment to gather himself, shake off the nasty cold he was dealing with. Certainly, he would not be able to be much help in the coming moments.
Dealla's gaze was intense as she watched the match unfold and gain momentum. Slytherin would be down a player for at least some time, but had again a clear shot at the foreign Queen. Both sides had taken some damage, as evident by the flames flickering across the field, although Santario was in far worse shape than the others. It was still too early to predict an outcome, but it was turning out to be an intense match.
