Grace saw Simon’s smile as she was talking about her background.
Ugh his smile is so cute.

Grace showed a sweet smile as well. She realized what she was thinking and almost slapped herself. Why is she daydreaming about this boy when he is trying to have a conversation. When Grace asked about his parents it seemed to be a bit of a sore spot. She took note of that and decided to not bring it up until he was more comfortable with her. Grace hoped everything was okay at home, Simon was so sweet that he did not deserve anything bad.

When replying to Grace’s shirt freak-out, Grace thought that Simon was going to be upset. It was actually the opposite. Simon seemed completely okay with the whole situation, which made Grace feel a bit better about his shirt. When Simon brought up that the inked shirt would remind him of meeting a new friend, it made Grace feel extremely happy. She was glad that she made a new friend as well. However, Grace had firmly decided that she would be buying him a new shirt.

Grace didn’t know if it was how good hearted and compassionate Simon was or just that his shirt was unbuttoned, but she was feeling a little warm. She was supposed to be studying, but this was so much better.

But in her not asking anything next, it made Simon feel he should elaborate some more on her prior question the question of his parents. That was always a bit of a strange and difficult one because it was met with sympathy and it really needn't be. While he would have hoped in some ways things were different, this was his normal. This is what he had grown up with and this is what he was accustomed to.

New friend or not, he wasn't one to want to keep secrets and the only way someone could learn about someone else is through communication and he wanted to get to know Grace.

"So yea, my mum was in Gryffindor. She didn't talk all too much about it to my aunt because she was the only witch in the family. She didn't want her to go being jealous being only three years younger. My aunt has said though that she knew the years she was at Hogwarts were some of the best years of my mum's life." And by now he had established that 1) he didn't know much of his own mother and 2) his aunt was an important factor in his life.

No going back.

"After graduation, she was the perfect example of a Gryffindor. Brave beyond compare. She lost her parents just upon graduation and had a sister to support. She handled it pretty well with the exception of one shady relationship, the one with my father. She left even before finding out she was pregnant but she never turned back or told him. She had a level head so I trust she had her reasons."

"After having me she got diagnosed with cancer and had a pretty difficult three year battle before passing. I don't remember her personally but my aunt keeps her there in memories and spirit. I try to make her proud, regardless. Back home it's really just always been me and Aunt Maggie. She's twenty-six so she gives me a lot of freedom when it comes to my upbringing and isn't strict like most of my friends' parents. She's the best though...never met anyone more selfless, more caring. But yeah, she didn't come from this world. This whole world of magic was new to me until last year."

Hopefully now she'd share about some of the details of her family life.

As Simon shared the details in depth of his family life and history, tears welled in Grace’s eyes on the verge of dropping. Grace believed thought that Simon was one of the kindest people at Hogwarts and he definitely did not deserve the past he had. Grace knew that it was a soft spot when he avoided it the first time, but she did not know how much of a soft spot it really was. Now she knew.

I am so sorry about your family. I am sure that your mother was an amazing woman and I would have loved to meet her. Especially since she was in the best house.

Grace joked, trying to cheer Simon up. He was still in his wet, inked, white button-up, but she wasn’t complaining. It looked good on him. Grace gave a kind smile and continued to talk.

My parents were in different houses. My mom is Hufflepuff and father in Gryffindor. Their names are Natalie and Jacob Swan. They are both pureblood. I grew up in London with them in a white house. I was homeschooled to learn basics such as reading, writing, and math instead of going to muggle school. I had a pretty good childhood, but it was boring most of the time.

Grace finished her backstory and let out a small breath. She pulled the hair tie out of her hair, the bun falling perfectly, the blonde locks framing her face.

How different it would be to grow up with always possessing knowledge that the wizarding world existed. He wondered if it made Hogwarts any less magical for those like Grace Swan because to him, nearly everything was the utmost amazing.

Having been homeschooled must have been difficult. It would be harder to make friends but at the same time he could see how that would make their family more secluded, where they could practice magic more in their daily lives without other Londoners being aware.

Other Londoners like himself.

"London, eh?" he smiled, pausing to watch her hair fall in place. "I'm from South Kensington," she had to have known the area. It was a main stop on the London Underground and one of the popular areas of London. "The Natural History Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, The Royal Albert Hall, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens..." It had been a good area of London for one to grow up in and despite a rise in crime, he had never felt unsafe out and about, even after the sun had fallen for the day. Perhaps it was his stronger nature.

"I always love meeting a fellow Londoner. Makes this place not seem so far away, you know? Maybe you and I were meant to meet."
There were times he missed it quite a lot but having someone who knew the same places he did and had a similar accent made things better.

He reached out, taking one of the books she had at the top of her pile to glance at the cover to see what the topic was about and then he ran his hand over the cover. "Do you find it difficult at all? ...If I may be so forward. I mean, I can only imagine that if you spent day after day, year after year, being always home with them - for both family matters and schooling, that you'd become quite attached. And do you have any siblings?"

Grace thought back to her homeschooled days, the boringness of it all overwhelming her. She remembered the dark, shiny wooden table and expensive but uncomfortable chairs that she sat in to do her work. The white sheets sometimes giving her paper cuts. Grace’s parents always got mad when her work wasn’t perfect, so getting questions wrong was not an option. She often got ink splotches on her worksheets, which got her more work. Grace snapped back into reality when Simon began talking. He lived in South Kensington, not far from her home. As Simon listed off things in the area, Grace smiled. She was glad to meet someone so close to where she lived. They could possibly meet up on holidays. He could even stay in one of the many extra rooms or attend her family’s annual Christmas ball if he was willing.

Do you find it difficult at all? ...If I may be so forward. I mean, I can only imagine that if you spent day after day, year after year, being always home with them - for both family matters and schooling, that you'd become quite attached. And do you have any siblings?

Grace listened to Simon speak and watched him run his hand over one of her books.

It was very boring but I did have social interaction with parties and such. I love my parents but they never really let me go out into the world. I do not have any siblings, it was just my parents and I in a huge house. I miss them a lot, but I am glad I can interact more.

Grace stopped speaking and grabbed her water bottle out of her book bag. She was parched and her lips were chapped. Her short legs crossed as she started fidgeting with her sweater again.

An offer of help to @Grace Swan

"Wow, I can't imagine being stuck in one place all the time," he said, thinking that must have been very hard for her. Still, he had a feeling that if they had such a large house, they probably put a lot of emphasis and money into those parties and they were probably quite fun. "I think my Aunt Maggie had me going by myself on the Underground at seven or eight. Probably would have let me sooner if it wouldn't seem so socially unacceptable. Luckily I always looked a few years older than I was."

He watched as she took a long drink of her drink and casually glanced over his shoulder, careful not to bring attention to them but he wanted to make sure the librarian or one of the helper elves didn't take notice or else she might be kicked out of the library. Something as simple as a small drink of water should be allowed.

"Never got lost. I guess I'm a natural sort of navigator. Which brings me to an offer,"
he said, leaning forward, moving himself a little closer to where she was but of course not quite as close as before when he was wiping the ink from her face. "Let me know if you need help finding anywhere around the castle, I'm more than happy to help. I even know where a couple of the secret passageways are." One he found from an upperclassman and another he found from a fellow Hufflepuff friend. "Not that I don't think you can't find your way around on your own. You're a brave Gryffindor afterall. Still, sometimes, one just would like the company."

Grace quickly closed her water bottle as she remembered the rule against food and drink in the library. It was a small rule, yes, but Grace would hate to be kicked out of the library, especially in the middle of her conversation. She was starting to really like Simon, he seemed like a kind guy.

Grace gently placed her half filled water bottle back into her book bag while Simon began talking. Grace loved to hear about Simon’s life. Something so simple as someone’s background should not excite her, but his stories made her happy. As Simon offered to show her around, the corners of Grace’s mouth curved into a soft smile. Her breath hitched as he moved a bit closer. She was not expecting the closeness, not that she was complaining. Grace could smell the mint from his toothpaste as they sat close. Listening more to the conversation, the sound of secret passageways intrigued Grace, maybe they could explore these passageways. She knew she wouldn’t get hurt, as his stature was already more intimidating than some of the seventh years.

I would love to have you show me around sometime. As you can probably tell, I haven’t taken the time to explore yet.

An invitation to @Grace Swan

Simon glanced up at the clock over near the circulation desk. They still had some time before catching curfew to go somewhere right now if she wanted. "Well, if you'd love me to show you around so much, why don't we go somewhere?" He stood up as he asked, placing his bag over his shoulder. Perhaps she wanted to stay and catch up on her studies but he was sure that she already had gotten ahead with the amount of work that was on the table. She would have made a fine Ravenclaw.

"There's some fantastic places... The Rehearsal Room is another favorite of mine. Not a lot of students seem to know about it, or perhaps maybe it's that they don't care. A shame though, really. But I don't mind showing you wherever you'd like to go."
Maybe those secret passageways or even outside to the Lake.

He wanted to encourage her to come, so he stacked up some of the papers that she had not touched since he first approached her on top of one another but then left it be. No one wanted to come off as being TOO forward with someone they just met but he was hoping that their interaction during the first day they met wasn't coming to an end but instead, was just moving off to a new adventure. "I could even show you were the Hufflepuff dormitories are if you want me to go change first. Unless, of course, you don't mind some black ink stains." The ones on his outer uniform shirt, which he now had slipped on over his white tshirt and left open. His tie now tucked into his messenger bag.

Wow. Grace did not expect to be asked to explore so quickly. Thoughts buzzed through her head like a wild pixie as she stood up with the second year. Grace was finished with her work for the next week, so she had as much free time as possible. Her hands stumbled as she quickly placed her books in her book bag. She would have to organize it later, but now was time for adventure. The corners of Grace’s mouth tugged towards the sky as Simon helped her with spare papers.

The places mentioned by the kind Hufflepuff sounded exciting. The Rehearsal Room, secret passageways, and lake all sounded like perfect ideas. Grace wanted to go to every one, but knew that she would have to space out those adventures for different times. She did not care about the ink on Simon’s shirt, but the Hufflepuff dormitories sounded extremely intriguing. Would she be allowed in? Grace looked at his yellow tie as it was tucked into Simon’s messenger bag.

These all sound truly amazing. I would love to go on an adventure with you right now! I do not care about the ink on your uniform, but the dorms intrigue me. Where would the first place be that you suggest?
