Chess Combat Match 1
10:00 a.m. Saturday, 14th August 2021
The time had come for the first match of the Summer Chess Combat! The Viridian Vipers were coming fresh off of a spectacular season to face teams of visiting students that were brave enough to dare challenge the champion team. Would these challengers emerge victorious? Or would the Viridian Vipers vanquish their various, valorous opponents?
In this first match, the Vipers sent forth Santario Martin and Illowy Magnard as their Rooks, Bridget Collins and Ileen Knight as their Bishops, and Alexander Varellion as their Queen. Their opponents were Jan Aalberg (Elena Jangleton) and Rodion Makarovich (Aurora Ranvier) as Rooks, Alisa Sokolova (Edric Banes) and Karilyna Kawahara (Thora Larkston) as Bishops, and Milosh Rehnquist (Annie Morgan). These opponents may have been from schools that were thousands of miles apart but they were united in their belief that they could defeat Hogwarts' reigning duelling champions.
The weather was pleasant enough, not a perfect day but certainly not a bad one by any stretch. Unlike the rather aesthetic duelling stage that lay within Hogwarts, the arena that day was not particularly impressive. Magical chalk had been used to draw 5 by 5 squares in the grass. Nearby, there were benches, warded so that it was highly unlikely that any sitting there would be hit by a stray spell. Unlikely, not impossible... These warded benches were for any waiting their turn to enter the arena, as well as any who wanted to watch the matches.
Since the games were taking place one at a time, spectators could watch one, two, or all three if they so desired. Some might end earlier than others, but there was an hour slot booked in, by which the match would have definitely been finished.

Angélique Colette de Clairmont was a bitter soul over the things that neither girl could control. Yet, it would seem that the half-blood still managed to take out all of her frustrations on her cousin, and why shouldn’t she? Santario was the heir to the de Clairmont estate despite being younger, their grandmother actually invested in her future prospects, and it seemed like everything Santario wanted she got. That was often the problem with seeing things from one side and refusing to listen to anything else on the matter. Hatred grew and festered inside of the young girl. While she was a typical beauty outside, her insides had become as rotten as a hag. The only difference was that in this case, Angél could still some day manage to redeem herself; that day just wasn’t today.
Angél approached the duel that her cousin was in after it had already started so she would not be able to revel in the glory of the backfired spell first round. She crossed her arms over her chest as she watched Santario hit the kid across from her, a scowl crossing her face when he called her beautiful. Angél would be the first to disagree, only wanting to point out how abnormally pale her cousin was in the stead. [“Don’t forget to choke on it, Santario! You don’t deserve your captaincy!”] The words were out of her mouth before she had even thought twice. She locked eyes with her cousin and watched her miss catastrophically, a twisted grin forming on her plump lips. Though just for the tiniest of moments, as she saw the look on her cousin’s face, Angél wondered if this is really the person she wanted to become.

The Russian’s match was a couple hours before Violet. Perhaps it will be fine to watch this match with a full on Slytherin attire, completely stolen to cheer for the international team. Though it was a bit confusing for her since there was the intimidating nice girl from the train back home, she might as well cheer for both people. With pompoms held high and the atrocious dance moves she prepared beforehand, the whole campground could hear her high pitched shouts. “GIVE ME R! GIVE ME O! GIVE ME T! GIVE ME T! GIVE ME E! GIVE ME N! GIVE ME M! GIVE ME A! GIVE ME C! GIVE ME A! GIVE ME R! GIVE ME O! GIVE ME N! GIVE ME I! ROTTEN MACARONI!” The hideous nickname was given only for Rodion. It was not her fault that his name was the perfect resemblance of the food.
His flirting attempt was beyond ridiculous. Even Aurora who had no experience with that whatsoever knew how bad it was. If it was not a cousin of hers, she would just bail from the match in embarrassment. Santario was very cool, no doubt. Even in a situation like that, not to mention being surrounded in Rodion’s cringiness, she could still hit him with a nice knockback jinx. “YES MARTIN! HIT THE MACARONI!” But then her skill slowly deteriorated. Was it the Koldovstoretz presence that started to give some negative effects towards the duelist? As hard as it was to believe, it might be the reason why. Though, maybe she was under some stress that made her unable to stay focus. “YES ROTTEN! HIT HER!”
Another girl was trying to be mean, or it seemed like that. Big thanks to the Ranviers that constantly teach her French, she would understand some of the words the meanie said. ‘Something Something Santario, something don’t deserve captain something’ Judging from the language, she must be someone from that fancy French school. “OH SHUT IT WILL YOU?” Aurora sent a death glare at the other girl's direction then quickly shifted back to where the Slytherin stood. "YOU ARE THE BEST DUELIST CAPTAIN SANTARIO MARTIN! DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS HIDEOUS FRENCH FRIES WHO ONLY CAN TALK WITH HER BIG MOUTH!”
