Isn’t it magnificent? An ingredient that seemed useless, uninteresting, beast type xxx, such as flobberworms could find their life purpose in potion as a liquid thickener. Who knows how many incompetent wizards and witches out there, they might want to consider donating their body and soul for potion ingredients. Fun. Minimum silly wand movement. Let’s just say, Aurora did not have a good track record with spell casting. Just concentrate, precision, patience. The last one, might be hard, indeed. Especially for the brunette Ravenclaw that seemed to have zero tolerance towards anything that requires a lot of waiting time. Despite all that, the feeling of serenity and enjoyment was always keeping on coming whenever she enters the potion classroom. That was one of the other similarities that she shared with her father, He was quite good back in his Hogwarts and healer career time. Imagine how happy he would be seeing his daughter has immense love for potion just as much as he was. Perhaps they were right, an apple never falls far from the tree.

Weird. Only those who don’t have a good sense of style might think that way. Eccentric. Yes. That was how Aurora was and always will be. Bright rainbow chromatic glasses was in front of her eyes, hands covered in flower decorated protective gloves, hair styled in a bun with a big flower on top of her headband swinging back and forth, left and right every time she moved her head. Today’s lesson was interesting. How could it now? brewing a potion that will turn you into a dragon will never be boring. Well, not literally a dragon, just the marvellous fiery breath that you could do after one consummation.

Looking at her right, the same nice Gryffindor girl from the disastrous charm class that gave her an asthma attack was on the same table. Not that the Ravenclaw was complaining, it was the fact that the lioness seemed to always know what to do and what to say. Not quite sure how she was feeling towards the girl from the house of the brave. Just to be nice after their last not so pleasant encounter, a word came out from her lips, “Boo!”

Everly let out a breath, still quite traumatized from the encounter she’d had just earlier that day. So, yes, maybe she had been acting just quite a bit rude towards that Ravenclaw girl, but, she thought with a dainty sniff, that wasn’t really her problem, after all. She just had to get through the rest of the day unbothered.

Potions wasn’t her best subject. Everly found it to be very time-wasting and tedious, if she were honest. Or perhaps it just happened to be that one branch of magic where she lacked. Either way, she didn’t dislike it, per se. It just wasn’t the thing for her. Having to be so, so specific, and making sure everything was exactly perfect seemed oddly like something Everly would have been good at. If it weren’t for her impatient nature, Everly supposed she might have been good at it. Unfortunately, Everly simply did not see the point in it, when at any point you could be like boop and then mess up your entire bubbly pot of brightly-colored goop.

She’d arrived to class somewhat early, as one did, when she was brutally mauled to death by that one voice.

“AHHHHH - oh, it’s you.” Everly looked upon the Ravenclaw’s face, trying to compose her facial expression again. She tilted her head, studying the girl’s face. What kind of hole had she popped out of? “What are you doing here, anyways?” Everly asked, straightening her back and trying to appear taller than she was.

She was unsuccessful.

Just with a simple ‘boo!’. The edge of her lips curved upward as the Gryffindor screamed in surprise. Unlike their previous interaction where the girl was hangry and extremely moody, it was not hard to notice that excitement was glued onto her from head to toes. “I am the new professor.” Grinning ear to ear. Quite an unusual moment to see Aurora looking so happy in class. Her eyes sparkled as she prepared her cauldron and whatnots on the table, looking like a mad scientist more than a clever and sane one, ready to do a life changing research. The idea of working to teach the revolting children like herself was never there in the first place, but now that she mentioned it all of the sudden, it could be her next aspiration in life. A cauldron in front of her, a potion book, rainbow pens, a boring quill and some ingredients on the side, her head looked up to face the feather charm girl. “I’m kidding! But seriously, do you think I will be a good professor someday?” Definitely not a good idea. Imagine an emotionally unstable professor being surrounded with stuff that could either harm or benefit lots of people. With a long list of people she disliked, it would be terrifying if the girl is becoming a potion master. Lucky for the future students and professors, deep down within, teaching was not something she had in mind. “I kind of want to be a healer, like my dad, but I also love potion making because it is similar to cooking but with magic which is fun” Whatever she decided to be in the long run, perhaps it would be a good thing to make her not be in a field where people’s life is hypothetically in her hand. Much of a talker for an introverted kid. A topic that clicked her interest would be one of the triggers for her loquaciousness.

Talented in thinking outside the box, although sometimes being in a kitchen with that ability would not do anyone good. “But I don't know if I can cook or not. My mom said that the kitchen is off limits because I put like six spoonfuls of sugar into the soup that she was cooking for us! She just did not get it that I like everything sweet.” As Aurora told her new friend about one of her kitchen disasters out of many more, she decided to shut her mouth before making the lioness concerned about her well being. One of her gloved hands flipped through the pristine looking book, it almost seemed brand new as if nobody ever touched it. As her eyes scanned the texts, she scrunched her eyebrows in confusion. “Why is it called a dog breath potion, though? Why not a dragon breath potion or fiery breath potion, you know?” The description in the book itself was somewhat alarming. If the fire whiskey and the fire seed combined, it will explode inside our body, does that mean it will burn us alive from the inside? There is no way the valerian will safe anyone in that state, right? Better not worry about it now. Maybe the brave girl from the lion den would be bold enough to be the test subject. “Okay, one bottle of fire whiskey into the cauldron!”

It seemed that within a few hours, there had been a whole role reversal. Everly's face progressively became more and more confused and belittled, while Aurora's only seemed to grow. She took another tiny step back, a little laugh escaping. "Alright, alright. Potions class. Fun." It was quite the opposite, in fact, in Everly's opinion, but Aurora needn't know that. Potions couldn't be that bad today.

"Um - a professor? Like, teaching professor professor?" Everly gave her a weak smile and thumbs up. It wasn't up to her, honestly, what Aurora chose to do, but if she were being completely and utterly honest, the choice of Hogwarts professor did not seem like the best option for her. A healer... wasn't that bad of an option either. "I mean, as long as you don't plan on murdering anyone. That wouldn't be too good."

Cooking and baking were two things that Everly weren't very good at either. She'd helped her sister with baking things before, but Everly was notorious for spilling things in the kitchen, so that only lasted a few times before Adeline decided to scrap that and find another baking buddy. Everly didn't blame her; it had been a nightmare trying to keep track. "Six spoonfuls?" Everly winced. "That's a bit too much, don't you think? Aren't you worried it could turn out too sweet? I know, I've had experience with that before." Everly couldn't remember some parts of what had happened, but she had been baking with her sister and father, and she had remembered that the one thing Everly didn't like about the last batch was that it had been a bit too bland. So, Everly had connected sugar and chocolate with sweetness and put a bit too much into the batter, and made plans to take the most cookies.

Needless to say, she got those cookies pretty easily.

Everly leaned over to look at Aurora's book, then with a second take, looked over back at hers. Her potions book was stained from several spills in previous classes - Everly could recount and tell how each spill had happened and how it had most definitely not been her fault. After all, how does one push themselves into their cauldron?

"Huh, I actually don't know," Everly murmured, looking back at her book. "The potion itself doesn't really have anything to do with dog breath. Maybe it smells really bad? I dunno."

Fire whiskey and fire seed equal combustion. Valerian and bat spleens equal protection. If that was the case, if those four combined, shouldn’t it just neutralise the other? It was like lighting up a fire then putting an extinguisher on top, the purpose was gone. Confused with the theory she just made whilst clutching tightly on the unopened bottle of fire whiskey. Despite her previous words, not a single drop of the liquid went into the mouth of the cauldron. Eyes on the pristine book, quite a striking comparison to the other girl’s book that clearly had been used before. The first time those school books that she bought were opened was the time when the professors told the whole class to, then they were back to do their usual job, decorative elements. They have top notch and aesthetic cover and spine design afterall perfect for creating such a vintage mood.

What was it with people always thinking for the worst? Her rather petite figure, outlandish fashion choices and thought process, hurting someone to the extent of assasination was too extreme, even for her. Confusing and often a mess, as if she were speaking in a different language, they misinterpreted her intentions, her words, her actions. Some just couldn’t see the nurturing part when it was beneath all of the things she had accidentally and purposefully done. Aurora was taken aback by the things that revolved around her honeyed tongue. Looking up from the parchment that didn’t make any sense, her eyes felt like taking more light than usual. Brain stuttered, convulsed, leaving its skull for the better. In her moment of emotional dumbfoundedness, her free hand traced the cauldron that had been on top of fire for quite sometimes. And somehow it sent electric signals that brought the squishy brain back to life. “WH—why would I plan a murder? I would never!” Now she sounded just like if one had been caught doing something fishy. Who knew? Maybe she was just a nervous laughter. “Not that I would do it spontaneously either!” With that echoed in the potion classroom, she opened the fire whiskey and poured it in the cauldron like a professional mixologist.

Pretending to know what she was doing, what a tough job to do. The technicolour lens in front of her eyes was incredibly distracting, but at least she looked cool whilst being dumb. Three clockwise stir, then one counter clockwise, for what reason? She wouldn’t know. It seemed like an important step to do, both in cooking and magical liquid making, so she did. On the other hand, the gryffindor was judging her six spoonful of sugar decision. Yes, it was stupid, but she wouldn’t be the only one who did such a thing, right? Right? “Well, it was a big soup, so—I thought it would blend perfectly with whatever she put there, maybe?” The smell was not great to say the least. People said it is an adult beverage and would make you a little tipsy. The main component of the drink was alcohol, then why not drink a hand sanitiser instead? Should have tasted the same but with a positive point that the fire whiskey never has, an amazing smell that would pierce your nostrils.

Being an alcoholic beverage, it evaporated quickly. The satisfying sizzling sound became music to her ears, making her stomach growled. Though one of her hands was still holding the wooden ladle, her mind was definitely somewhere else. Wouldn’t it be nice to eat a fish and chips and a chocolate milkshake? Imagine dipping the chips into the whipped cream, a mouth watering sight. If Everly was also daydreaming, the liquid inside the cauldron would disappear, like the chance of Aurora becoming a Potion Master if she keep letting herself distracted.

It was clear that potion brewing was Aurora's forte. Everly, on the other hand, couldn't quite say the same. There had been countless times Everly's poor Potions textbook had suffered for its owner's mistakes. That was a different story, though. For now, Everly just had to pretend like she knew what she was doing.

"Mm-hm." Everly cast a suspicious towards the Ravenclaw, assuming that she could tell Everly was bluffing. She didn't really think Aurora would do such a thing, anyways.

Right?

As difficult as it was to accept, Everly wasn't much help at all in the Potions room. All she could really do was let Aurora take charge and order her around, because she couldn't quite do that. She stood back and watched Aurora carefully (???) handle the firewhiskey, pouring the liquid into the cauldron as it hissed threateningly.

"That's supposed to happen, right?" Everly hissed towards Aurora, poking the side of the cauldron slightly, treating it like a bomb about to blow.

She really wasn't that much help in the Potions room.

Taking a peek at her textbook, Everly reached to stir the cauldron, trying her best to at least do something, instead of sitting around like a duck. Three clockwise, and one the opposite direction, she chanted in her head. After a moment to figure out which way was what (she couldn't afford to screw up), she'd take the stirring stick and spin it thrice to the right, and once to the left.

Well, now she'd done something useful. Sort of.

To both of their surprises, Everly would let out a little snort-giggle. "I don't know, maybe? I've never been the best at cooking." That, in fact, was true. Everly could count on one hand the attempts and the failures, and still have some fingers left over.

Everly squinted her eyes at the curious color in the cauldron, darting her eyes towards Aurora. That was a good sign, right?
