SILVER ARROW
Broom
Kheanu felt it: the thrill.
All around him, fellow magical students straddled their brooms one by one as the start of the Broom Racing bout was quickly approaching. The boy himself sat astride his own Silver Arrow, one of the few brooms fit for the tall and tasteful Mondelez. It was a gift from his dear brother, Nikki.
Nikolai Violetto Mondelez did not even think twice when his younger—and only—sibling expressed his desire to compete in something so... uncharacteristic over the summer.
In a way, the sport was very much unlike Kheanu.
It was as fast-paced and rugged as he was sophisticated and elegant. But gone were the days in the piste with his foil in hand, fencing his way through the top of the lines. So too were his days in dueling. He has already proven himself to be one of the select formidable students of his school, Kheanu's delicate stature belying the ferociousness barely hidden within.
It was high time for a breath of fresh air.
With the silver broom gripped tightly in hand, his long, spindly legs wrapped loosely around it, Kheanu willed himself to rise up off the ground.
He was ready.

As much as Rett loved the sport of duelling, there was something about broom racing that seemed exhilarating. It was the perfect combination of Quidditch and duelling that left him feeling challenged physically and mentally. He got his first real taste of duelling when he participated in a Wizard Chess Combat surrounded by the Hogdorks. It went well, but it ended in a less than satisfying tie. This time he was determined to win, even if he had to rely on some other schools. Ilvermorny was his home and pride, and truly no other school could match the skills he believed their school possessed.
He was confident showing up with his Silver Arrow in his hands, feeling smooth and balanced and ready to win. He took incredibly detailed care of his broom to help develop the relationship with it, so they could trust each other. He had a fear that forever lingered that they were secretly incredibly sentient beings ready to strike with a broom revolution at any moment. This fear came from his mother's scary nighttime stories that she would tell to him every now and again if they were out around a fire. Truly she didn't know how much she would mess him up for the future.
But with a shudder shaking off the impending broom revolution, he was ready to go.

Mikael looked towards the skies with a disinterested look. Fresh air was so close to his face yet it felt so far away. He could practically imagine the whipping air that would soon smack into his face hard enough to hurt. The stinging cold that would wake him up from the continuous trudge of everyday life. A chance to truly feel alive. He wondered what that made him. To want a rush of adrenaline to chase away the thoughts that piled up in his head. It felt like unclogging a drain. Horrifyingly disgusting but the underlying satisfaction ever-present.
The boy licked at his dry lips already knowing that by the time they were finished they would be chapped beyond repair. He shifted his stance on his broom readying himself as he stared straight ahead. Unwilling to look at those who surrounded him. Not wanting to bring attention to the one person missing by his side. Mikael shook his head as he brought his focus back. The only thing that mattered was winning this race. He would rather die trying. There was no other option.

The anticipation was oppressive. Iris had been waiting a long time to finally have the chance to hit the skies again in a real race. Sure, she was supposed to be ‘forbidden’ from broom racing thanks to her grandmother, but Iris had quickly learned that her Grammy couldn’t quite reach her here.
The instant Iris had heard about the Broom Race she was already in the skies, zipping around on her mostly untouched broom, regaining her skills. It wasn’t long before she was improving on her previous skills, fueled by the sheer love of flight.
Today Iris was so beyond ready. With a wicked smirk on her face and a smile and nod at her teammates she mounted her broom and waited for the signal. Already she could feel the wind in her hair, the biting sting of the air, her clothes rippling and almost whipping down her tightly tucked form. The only thing different from her practice this summer was the obstacles which she had been painfully studying up on, not that she’d admit that to anyone, and other fliers. Nonetheless she was confidant for a win.

Alexei inhaled sharply as he readied himself for the race. Obviously, Durmstrang was inherently superior to all the other schools, but that didn't mean that he was able to just slack off. Quite the opposite, really. He had to work even harder so that he wouldn't be the one to besmirch the name of the school.
He mounted his broom, attempted to quiet his nerves, and glanced around him at his teammates. They were going to dominate this, he knew it.
Long story short, I survived

The Map
Starting on Hogwarts grounds the students will rush over a grassy plain towards a cave that spits them out in the Forbidden forest where they will zig-zag between trees until they reach Hogsmeade. Once there they will perform a hairpin turn and return to the grounds again through the forbidden forest. There are 2 creatures also lingering about the track a Mosp and a Boggart.
*Edit made August 20: clerical error (as the rolls and damages he would have gotten from further along the track were removed but he was not moved back. Jack was marked as unit 6 at the end of the round rather than 4. His movement speed was reduced by half because he cast a spell.

| It appeared to be clear sailing from the start of the match. The dense concentration of students would be soon spread out across the track. Of all those gathered Romeo Marchonné set his sights upon the gothic beauty Xailah Alptraum. Perhaps the twins have similar taste. With the flirtatious skill of an elementary school student where romantic interest is expressed in splashing mud on some girl's clothes, young Romeo true to his name would make the first move. The teen would crash into the unsuspecting girl as she prepared to speed away. She had already started to move when it happened, when everything went wrong.
The rest of the racers, less young Romeo and Xailah would rush away, over the grassy hill and towards the forbidden forest. Johannes Cyprian Ambroży (Astrea Soleil Neptune's iNPC) and Lucinia Thawin would take up the rear, just before the narrow passageway at the start of the forbidden forest that several of their peers had zipped into. If they looked behind them the Durmstrang and Slytherin would see their teammate Romeo at the starting line, potentially proud of getting first blood. Alexei Petrov (Anastasia Beckett) was not going to waste any time taking down the competition either. Wand drawn , Alexi would cast the Ventus Jinx on Serena Towers. The attack being a bit early, the field was clear of obstacles as the youth cast the Venus Jinx a strong gust of wind would be felt by most of the racers, Towers included but no harm would come to any of them. Nichlas Forsberg (Alan Vanes), like most of their team took an early offensive. Nichlas (Alan) would cast Relashio, also known as the Revulsion Jinx on Theodore Duncan (Opeila Winters). This was a technique that was useful in the fact that it forced a target to release what they are actively holding. In this case, their brooms. If effective, this would cause the target to fall from their broom. Spell-spread being used to blanket this spell and hit a second target, the rather unfortunate Levi Drakos. Wand drawn, when the spell was cast both Theodore and Levi would feel their hands involuntarily open. Unable to grip their broom with their hands, they would try to hold on with their legs but find it impossible at such high speeds. The brooms would wildly spin out and crash onto the ground. Levi Drakos and Theodore Duncan (Opeila Winters) have been knocked from their broom. They will need to spend an action to recover their broom. The rest of the schools would make their way into a narrow passageway that snaked underground. The mouth of the opening was not terribly small but they were moving fast, elbow to elbow in some cases. Irish Fields (Katrina Walker) would be the first to crash, her shoulder clipping the stone wall hard. Levi Drakos and Florian DeRoy (Starlee Kennedy) were close behind the leader. They entered at about the same time, the ends of their brooms would click and they would veer off into the opposite respective walls. Bruised, potentially abraded, they would be fine, just a bit battered considered the speed at which they were moving. Hugh Lowe was just a bit too big for the cave and the dreaded light fixture (only with stalactites rather than pendant lighting would be his downfall as he was clocked in the forehead by something hard. A rather unsightly bruise would start to form over his curtain brow. Thankfully the teen had a hard head. Jack Warren simply ran head on into a cave wall in the dark. Finally Sébastien Batteux (Stanley Buttons) would simply misjudge the opening, feeling that they had more space they would hit the opening just as they entered. Mikael Halldorson (Percival Rainwood) was in the dark, Angélique de Clairmont (Santario Martin) was starting to get ahead. Perhaps it was her pretty eyes that made her stand out, maybe she was just unlucky or she flirted with the wrong young man. There were a lot of reasons why Mikael Halldorson (Percival Rainwood) might have targeted the young lady and none of them were good. Where nobody could see the devious yout he would cast Arresto Momentum and with the flick of a wand he would hope his spell hit its mark but it would not. Angélique de Clairmont (Santario Martin) would continue to fly off ahead of the teen. in the dark Mikael Halldorson (Percival Rainwood) would not be alone, in fact a pair of teens from the Ilvermorny-Koldovstoretz team were in there with him. Well, they were both Hufflepuffs from Hogwarts that got lumped in with them. Hopefully the rumors are true about the house of hugs rather than the house of fire. Hopefully... Kheanu would also make his move. It did not sound devastating but the teen cast Slippery Jinx, better known as Lubricus -- a jinx that makes an object slippery and difficult to hold on Hugh Lowe's broomshaft. Hugh would feel a slickness, his hands would have a hard time gripping the hardwood of his broom. The harder he would grip, the more his hand would seem to slip and side. It was hard to remain mounted on the speed broomstick.
Hugh Lowe fell off his broom Requires an action to re-mount the broom He would come crashing down onto the stony ground. He would tumble and roll, his mass would hit the floor hard and he would come to a skidding stop, skinning both his palms and his knees. His broomstick would bounce uselessly against the cavern walls and come to a stop a few feet away. Jack Warren did not look real smart nor was he a particularly good Prefect but he knew who was a viable threat (Nichlas). This was his chance he reasoned, send the guy who had caused two racers to crash within the first few seconds of the race. Forsberg would be knocked back by Jack's flipendo. Flying backwards, Nichlas would risk slamming into obstacle directly behind him. This would not damage Nichlas but it would set him back. It was an illegal move, casting the Freezing Charm, also known as Immobulus. Dangerous because of the loss of control on a treacherous track, injuries were pretty much assured. If successful the charm would render living targets immobile. Johannes would attempt to strike the girl down, wand in hand. The jinx would be cast but Everett would avoid the reckless attack. The cavern would meander in the dark, the narrow yet crowded passageway would prove treacherous to the racers as many more found themselves crashing into the walls or one another. Sébastien Batteux (Stanley Buttons) would bounce off Levi Drakos a random NPC, their elbows colliding as Serena Towers trailed behind the both of them, narrowly avoiding their appendages only to run into a stalagmite that jarred the poor part-goblin. Everett Brooks (Willow Anderson) shoulder hit the wall and scraped along the length of the cave for several meters at high speed leaving a nasty abrasion on his right arm. Theodore Duncan's (Opeila Winters) dark vision did not make the young man feel any safer once he realized how cramped the shared quarters were for this potion of the track. He overcompensated for a turn and his left leg would catch part of the cavern wall. Iris Fields (Katrina Walker) would turn suddenly to avoid one of her teammates and her arm would be scraped by the cavern wall. The cavern would open up to the surface word and the cool evening air would hit the racer's faces. They would be met with a dense, thick forest. Darting between trees at high speeds would prove difficult if not dangerous as a swarm of racers rushed through the forest. Angélique de Clairmont (Santario Martin) would bounce off a rather sturdy-appearing oak and Hugh Lowe would be again too large for his own good as he is pinched between a pair of close-growing trees. The thick bark of the shagbark hickory would break off and fly about in pieces like shrapnel about the part-giant youth. Florian LeRoy (Starlee Kennedy) would clip the side of her broom, scuffing the hardwood shaft and jarring herself, she would feel a strain in her legs and wrists from attempting to hold on as her broom nearly bucked her off. Levi Drakos was moving fast, potentially too fast as he zipped out of the cavern, keeping pace with the leaders of the pack. He would find that he was not as nimble as others, he was more a lover than a fighter and really only a lover when it suited him or really annoyed someone else. Physical endeavors such as this were not necessarily his forte as he defied tropes but suffered as a result. he would ping-pong between a pair of trees, rattling his form as he made his escape deeper into the darkened forest. The forest being an eerie place for him considering the things that he saw those months ago in the Owlery [Main Story reference]. Serena Towers would also bang her knuckles, leaving her hands scraped and bloodied as she tried to twist herself between a pair of trees. Theodore Duncan (Opeila Winters) was doing well, one of the fastest brooms in the race, he would shoot over a tree branch only to feel the branches pull at his mop of hair. Several strands of the boy's precious hair (and potentially a bald spot) would meet curious eyes. No worries, it is only hair - it will grow back. Iris Fields (Katrina Walker) was moving faster than she could perhaps reasonably handle as she bashed back and forth between a pair of trees that would leave her arms and legs badly bruised. Pained, they were not out. Not a one of them. Iris Fields (Katrina Walker) and Theodore Duncan (Opeila Winters) would take the lead on their brooms. Katrina was more nimble it would appear than Theodore as she clumsily attempted to avoid the branches and gnarled trunks with minimal success. She would hit several branches as she attempted to keep pace with Katrina. The two girls were tied for the lead.

Feel free to reach out for missed rolls. There are a lot of you and a lot of passives and this is a new system, it is very likely something was overlooked.
For those that have been knocked off their brooms, you can use your action to return to your broom and you can still move.

Okay, so maybe she wasn't as ready as she thought. Shortly after Xailah stopped her waiving, and turned her focus to the race, something went wrong. Not immediately, but much earlier than anyone could have anticipated. The racers maneuvered; got ready; got set. Slipped their boots into the stirrups, and steadied their steeds. When the signal to go, was sent, they all sped by, like a lineup of little fireworks. Xailah brought her goggles down over her sparkling, felid eyes. She hunched, and slid her arms up the length of her broom; searching for that sweet spot between stability and maneuverability. She kicked off with a jolt, and flew a few feet until- oop. Just like that, she was knocked from her broom. Clipped from behind by some Durmstrang hooligan. She was too busy nursing on the excitement of there being a race, to even consider being angry or embarrassed. Thankfully she wasn't too high up, nor was she going very fast. Her tumble looked much more dramatic than it actually was. She plummeted like a raindrop, but landed like a cat. Her palms and boot tips, hit the ground first; sending a stiff shudder jingling up her limbs upon contact.
It was like... Bumper Cars- no, it was exactly like Bumper Cars. Right from the excitement of the start; up to the extinguishing of said excitement, to make room for fun pettiness, upon being tapped. Xailah wanted to hit them- whoever had hit her- back. Dodgem enthusiasts would have easily resonated with the sudden urge to whip around and send their aggressor flying into tomorrow, after being rear-ended. All in good fun of course. Your standard Dodgem player wouldn't have hesitated to fulfill that primitive urge to return a hit. A good Dodgem player, waited. Bided their time, until they could catch up to their unsuspecting victim and give them the whiplash of a lifetime. The bump probably meant one of two things; the fellow who rammed Xailah had poor broom control, or he had perceived her as a threat early on. Possibly both. Possibly neither. There were some people out there that simply enjoyed the sadistic thrill derived from the blatching their peers. Xailah stood; regathering her comportment; bringing her hands together to brush the dust from her gloves. So, what was the young racer? Was she the standard, impulsive and easily tempted Dodgem driver, or was she the good driver? Perhaps something else entirely? That would be revealed soon enough.

@Xailah AlptraumThough I knew what my plan was, I also knew what would help the team most in such a situation as all competitors kicking off the ground simultaneously. Though not too many of them seemed by total threats, there was one which appeared armed to the teeth in... Muggle apparel? And apparel with was complementary on her to say the least.
As soon as all was beginning, I made a beeline for my target, who by happenstance was in front of me. All it took was a light nudge, a suggestion of a touch, and down she went.
Screeching to a stop in midair, I watched the rest of the cloaks and reds of my team flutter silently into the forest, sending them off with a small smile and a big wave. They knew what to do. They had this down pat.
I was more concerned about the girl I had toppled. Hovering back a bit, I would have extended a hand to her to help her to her feet [if she wanted to take it was her own digression] while keeping a strong grip on my own broom to be sure not to be pulled off in a turn of events which while amusing, would be detrimental to my playing of the game.
"Romeo Marchonné, Ma'am. Sorry about that." For once, damn the competition for just a moment. I didn't feel, bad, but I did feel a bit guilty. I had to catch up to my team, but I wanted to make sure that my poor target was alright first. "C'mon, the race is still young." Friendly, yet confident. Confidence in both myself... and in her.
As soon as I saw her beginning to remount, I started off again, waving behind me with that same small smile. "Let's try this again, shall we? Andiàmo! Let's go!" A little bit of rousing Italian to start the race off right.
I had all the wisdom in the world to know that instant Karma was going to come for me, but I also knew that now I had given at least one racer a good reason to see why Durmstrang was to be taken seriously.
I wanted to see how she would play. I wanted to see how she would turn this game in her favor.Action: Apologizing to Xai, Doing as StrategizedStats:

Kheanu, apparently still in the dueling mindset, had decided then and there to take down whom he saw as the greater threat; and, well... that threat seemed to be a certain hulking young man from Hogwarts.
With his stockier build and larger stature, the boy—man, man-boy—might prove to be quite an obstacle to what was otherwise an already-decided game in favor of Durmstrang Institute.
Turns out, it was just a simple Slippery Jinx, one of the spells a wizarding student learns a little earlier than most, that was the ticket. It was a testament to the gods' favor upon Kheanu that his spell struck true and strong. Almost immediately after Lubricus landed, his target's grip wavered, and not a moment later, was falling swiftly to the ground.
Speeding past and daring a quick look back and downward, Kheanu would send a sly wink and a little finger-wave in the boy's direction before zooming off once more towards the finish line. "Ciao!"

Paige nodded, reaching out her fist to fist bump Simon. "You nervous? Because I'm totally not nervous!" She said, very nervously. "Hey, maybe we'll win together! We have the same broom, right? It's not like one of us is faster than the other." She said.
And then the race began. She felt her wand in her pocket, but she wouldn't take it out. She didn't want to hurt anyone. It seems she wasn't in her competitive state yet. She remembered vaguely the rush as she flew on the broom. It lasted only for seconds before she was swallowed by a tunnel.
The sounds of spells echoed around, and her heartbeat quickened. Don't aim at me

No one aimed at her. She was safe, for now.
