Walking through the path of the hedge, it wasn't half bad that the smell of watermelon permeated the area. While it was likely a spell, it was not unpleasant in the slightest. Watermelon went great with the cool summer air and the smell of the foliage. His sense of smell was a strong one, which meant this whole adventure was probably going to stick strongly in his mind whenever he smelled watermelons again. Hopefully it would stay a nice memory.

As the hedges narrowed, it became harder to stand beside one another, so Flash took the lead unless one of the other two insisted on taking the lead instead, to which he would acquiesce. "Could I have your name, Miss?" He'd ask the stranger, needing to know what to call her if he needed her attention swiftly. As it stood, so far it was only a matter of travelling forward, so it was hard to say what to expect. "Watch where you walk."

As they went on further, regardless of his placement, he would hear the sounds of something off to the right once they came to a fork. He turned to the other two, mostly interested in being entertained rather than outright winning. His competitive spirit wouldn't take hold without another team to compete with. Maybe he could pretend he won if they made it to the end before the other three? Well... that seemed hollow, technically they should have all stuck together in the first place.

"Shall we investigate the noise? It could be something useful." Flash offered, looking quite at ease.

So she wouldn't being going in alone- that was a bonus. The group of one quickly turned into the group of three heading into the watermelon patch of the maze. "Thanks," she would nod to the both of them, before quickly checking to make sure everyone had made some sort of decision as to where they were going. A final glance towards the bucket- should they take it?- before deciding against it and finally entering the maze.

The path truly grew mysterious once the fog started to set in, colors turning into shades of gray the further out Kit looked. As the path started to narrow, the redhead would fall to the back of the group if possible. The question of her name would also be asked around then, realizing that she still hadn't introduced herself. "Shoot, sorry 'bout that. My name's Kit." Hopefully no other introductions had been forgotten on her part. "Do you both go to Hogwarts or a different school?" Maybe if they were from here, they would know something more about this maze.

The fork would offer two choices (excluding going back) which seemed to be about the same to the redhead. Whatever noise Flash picked up on, Kit couldn't hear it. But the girl wasn't patient enough to try for longer than a couple of seconds either, deciding that someone probably wouldn't lie about such a thing. "Either way works," the redhead would shrug. "What did the noise sound like?"

Lavinia’s plan to have everyone go together had failed miserably. Of course she had left for the path before they got the chance to talk about it but only one person had followed her. She knew for a fact that there was more than just one other person in her maze group. It pained her to know that she couldn’t keep a group together but if they wanted to go off on their own than hopefully they would meet up at the end.

Soon enough, fog started to arrive in the maze and Lavinia wasn’t that surprised. It made sense to not be able to see in front of you yet she hated it. It added to her gut feeling that something was wrong and due to that, the same spell she had tired to use 2 years ago was cast. “Lumos” she said with confidence in her capabilities.

Upon reaching a fork in the road and the fog lightening up a little bit she remembered about her companion. They had joined her and Lavinia was glad for it yet somehow her own memories had made her forget. Looking back at the paths, the one to the left seemed to be almost the exact same as the one that they were currently on. The one going straight however, had the solemn sound of a violin playing from deep within. Lavinia knew which one she wanted to go in but would let the decision rest in her companion because she had made the last decision.

“Thank you for joining me..umm…since I made the last choice of route, pick whichever path you want and I will follow you.” she said sincerely. The goal was to make friends while not freaking out too much and with any luck she would be doing that.

There came no answer to Greta's inquiry towards the girl. Instead, the stranger only spoke an incantation, otherwise altogether ignoring the Norwegian's presence. Even still, that didn't stop her from trailing after the elder girl. With one last glance over her shoulder, Greta disappeared into the Southern Entrance, and almost immediately regretted it.

With the fog as dense as it was, she could hardly see more than a few steps ahead. What if there were magical creatures lurking? Or students ready to attack? Anyone looking at Greta might easily mistake her for scared with how quick her head swivelled every which way in search of threat. Which she definitely was. Why couldn't she have been put in a group with at Ella... Brows furrowing, Greta bit down on her lip and hurried forward a few steps to close the distance that had developed between her and the other girl. Maybe a wand wouldn't be such a bad idea. One hand buried itself to twist in her skirt, finding comfort in the coiling of the fabric while the other drew forth her wand from one of the deep pockets. Which was when her chosen companion finally spoke.

"Oh!" Greta blinked, eyeing her curiously. "You are much welcome?" She answered, glancing again over her shoulder before looking to the girl once more, this time with absolute confusion. I made.. something... somethingsomething something... "Ehm..."

There were about a total of three of the important words that she'd understood. Pick. You. Want. Another blink, brows furrowing while her gaze panned forward as though attempting to mentally work through a particularly difficult math problem. She didn't even notice the sound of a violin playing off into the distance as she meandered, so caught up in puzzling out the foreign words. She scolded herself for ever having fallen off with writing letters to Theo. Or... not necessarily Theo, per se, but just the activity in general. It had really helped with her grasp of English, and as soon as she'd stopped, it seemed to slip away almost entirely. One step after another and Greta continued forward, passing by the side path unnoticed. Although unintentional, the choice would be made. The two were heading towards the melancholic serenade.

Despite the strange noise to the right, it seemed that Detective Flash was on the case and ready to investigate with his new companion Deputy Kit! Or at least they were intrigued enough to turn right. One of the two... Turning right, Kit and Flash not have to walk too far. The path weaved around a corner and the group would step into a small dead-end chamber. At first, there was nothing. Even the sound of the rustling seemed to halt. But within an instant, the empty chamber erupted with life.

Long roots and vines from the enchanted hedges shot out towards each of the gathered students, like the tentacles of a Kraken looking to drag them to unknown depths. The binding roots were fast, launching through the air with ease to fill the small chamber as the tendrils inched closer to the students. As if through some feline-like instinct, Katherine immediately bounded out of the way of the vines and into the safety of the corridor just outside the chamber. Flash too made it look easy. Ducking a few of the quicker vines, he was then able to slither his way out of harm's way and back to Katherine's side as the two watched the roots and vines slowly slide back out of sight.

Despite the clear language barrier, the pair was ready to continue their journey. It was an exercise in trust but both witches seemed skilled enough to aid one another. Despite the strange music coming from down the forward path, the pair decided to try their luck. Lavinia cast lumos, giving them some much-needed light as they started their way down the long coridor.

It would be clear that this was not a straight path, it seemed to turn every dozen feet or so making it difficult to see what might be coming up. But the music continued to get louder as they walked. Louder with every step until it felt as though it was right next to them. As the pair rounded a final corner they would find themselves at a dead end. But they were not alone.

Levitating several feet off the ground, an old violin was enchanted to play rather poorly. It was clearly the source of the music. Just below the floating violin, a musty old boot seemed to be dancing around in a circle with the music. It was a party of two with a couple of new guests. The enchanted objects seemed not to mind the visitors, at least for now. But the explorers would have to decide if they wished to further investigate the dead-end or continue on their journey back the way they came.

As the chipper little girl responded, the small group meandered its way through the unimaginably tall shrubbery, the sounds of any of the rest of their group in the other paths impossible to hear, even with Flash's skills of perception. He finally realized that this was a bit different than being in a normal hedge maze made for the entertainment of children, this one was filled with all kinds of magic and enchantments.

"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss Kit. We're both Hogwarts students, good friends." Flash replied, as polite as always. To her question about the noise, Flash had to think for a moment and rub his chin thoughtfully. "Well... it was quiet, it just sounded like something was moving over there, or rustling in the bushes."

They wouldn't have to wait too long to discover the source, as while the maze moved into a dead end, roots started wriggling up out of consealment and attacking the group.

"Ah- turn back!" Flash yipped quickly, quickly aware of the danger. Well, he at least still hoped their groundskeeper kept this maze harmless, but tripping and falling over could still seriously hurt.

Turning around himself, throwing his hands forward in a 'go, go, go' movement, the three of them escaped the angry greenery unscathed. Perhaps this maze was a lot more trick than it was treat, something he'd internalize going forward.

"Okay..." Flash said, minorly winded from the surprise, "maybe I was a bit too optimistic about finding help."

There was only one real way to go now, back to the fork to take the other direction.

Nate was alone, but instead of it bothering him, he was kind of relieved. No one to talk to, no one to coordinate with, just silence and him. He would get this over with as quickly as possible.

He turned around frantically when he suddenly heard rumble behind him and saw the entrance closing, now there was obviously no turning back. He looked for a moment at the wall of bushes where the entrance had been a moment ago, took a deep breath and turned around again. He was alone, it was dark and quiet. Perhaps a little too quiet. He took his wand and cast "Lumos." to at least have some light.

He kept walking, slowly and carefully at first, but quickly his pace quickened. The faster he went, the faster he would be out and could go back to his Cabin. He held his wand in front of him, his eyes were narrow slits and he tried not to miss anything or trip over anything. After a few more steps he came to a split in the road again, he had two choices - straight ahead or left.

He briefly looked back and forth between the two paths and decided to go straight ahead. Whether this was a good decision, he would probably soon find out.

Greta really wasn't sure what she was expecting, but the sight of an old violin hovering in the middle of a dead end with a shoe dancing around its base really wasn't it. As soon as it came into sight, she stopped in her tracks, staring at it from around the side of the other girl. In a way, the whole scene seemed rather whimsical. The music wasn't spectacular—rather poor if she were to be honest—but it was certainly better than anything she could produce. Given past experiences at this school during other events, however, a threat of some sort really couldn't be discounted. Wand gripped in both hands, she remained at the entrance to the area. As curious as she felt, her caution was the more compelling, rooting her to the spot.

"You think what?" Greta wondered, glancing to the other girl. "Is danger? Or is good?"

The more Greta listened, the more she relaxed. Eventually, she released her hold on her wand to a single hand, and began clapping her fist against the other empty palm to the rhythm of the melody. If she'd known a song that even vaguely resembled the one being played, she might have sung that as well. Still, she was content to stand safely at a distance for now, waiting for a cue from her chosen companion. Maybe they'd know what to do.

The Slytherin had left it to Flash to introduce both of them to the red haired girl whose name was Kit and only sent her a friendly smile. Entering the maze made Opeila more nervous than she cared to admit- what she had said to Flash earlier had only partly been a joke. Warily she kept an eye on her surroundings made sure not to step on weird looking spots on the ground and listened for strange noises. The watermelon smell did not fit with the creepy fog...

There was a noise too, Flash suggested to investigate it. Opeila only nodded and turned right with the group, only to stay back. An undefinable feeling in her stomach seemed to freeze her feet, stop her from going that path. Frowning, Opeila looked at the path more closely and only understood when it was way too late. "Flash-" Roots and vines came out of the hedges, attack all the students who had decided to go in the direction of the noise.

Opeila didn't dare to come closer, she would not unless her friend got in trouble. "Come back, let's take the other way!", she suggested, still warily eyeing the hedges. Maybe it was a trap and there were more scary plants to come.
Waiting for Flash and Kit.

"Yours, too." she replied, returning the smile to Opeila. The sound mentioned was a strange one, but that was partly because Kit hadn't expected any animals. Then again, the girl had also assumed that this would be a normal maze when magic was the main curriculum. This would be more exciting than the redhead had first expected, she was sure. Especially if they were moving towards the noise. Hogwarts students- "Is this maze familiar then?"

It wouldn't be too long of a walk before they reached a dead end, blue-green eyes glancing around for a second before giving up. "Well-" nothing here. Only there very much was something here, watching as the hedges tried to surprise attack them with vines and roots. Yep, time to move.

The beauxbatons student would swiftly turn around, running back over to the chamber exit, ducking and bounding over any roots that tried to hold her back. It felt more like a game than anything, a challenge to see who would make it back first and without getting caught. Kit managed to complete at least one of the two missions. Luckily, all survived the competition.

"I mean, at least we now know." The hedge path felt a lot safer, a chance to catch her breath and return back to the previous decision. The dark-haired girl was a lot smarter it seemed, staying back. But maybe they also missed part of the fun.
