It was becoming a routine, these impossibly but somehow getting worse bad days. Everly wasn’t quite sure how to deal with it, if she was honest with herself. She wasn’t even sure why she was in a bad mood today - it was still early in the morning, and absolutely nothing had happened yet. Maybe she’d just developed some sort of temper that felt quite too short, or maybe it was just some subconscious thing. It felt too weird to be in a droop like this, and even a droop at all for this long was unlikely for Everly. She could never prioritize what she wanted to do, could never manage to get to anything on time, couldn’t quite clearly acknowledge what was happening at times. Without a name for whatever was going on, Everly grasped at nothing.

Today seemed like a repeat of yesterday, and the day before that, and everything before. Something felt uncomfortably recognizable about this, and Everly wasn’t sure how she felt. It hadn’t even been too long from when she found out about the thing, (Everly wasn’t sure how she felt about saying it either) only several days, and it had felt like a century for some reason. She supposed it wasn’t the end of the world, per se, but Everly’s world would definitely be better off without the thing.

The thought of Adeline, Everly’s own sister, going off to marry some other rich dude hadn’t been something Everly was quite so opposed to (she was very opposed to it, mind you), but the thought of Adeline marrying Carrington’s own half-brother was just overall weird to think about.

All of this thinking took up a lot of valuable space in Everly’s brain, mostly her vision and hearing, or a term called daydreaming - the most sophisticated version. Thus, Everly was not looking where she was going.

Everly felt something smack her in the nose. It wasn’t too hard, and Everly wasn’t hurt direly in any form, but it was mostly the surprise that made her stumble back, bringing her back from her thoughts. She blinked a few times, looking around at her surroundings. She was in the doorway of the Great Hall and - oh.

Blushing furiously, Everly scrambled to pick up her things and leave before anyone saw. It was unlikely that someone didn’t notice - after all, people had already begun pouring in for breakfast. She hoped no one cared enough to spot the first-year who’d just quite literally walked into a door.
