Time had passed and the sun would slowly start to set as the colors of pink and orange would stretch over the horizon in a soft evening glow. It was about 8 pm when groups of students had been called and sorted into groups of three by none other than Alan, who had worked on fun games to make a reward for those that had shown exceptional work despite the summer break.

"Alright so the game plan is simple, you start by entering the first area that you can see over there," Alan explained as he pointed toward a big tent that stood on the Ground, obscured by soft evening mist and perhaps a few magic tricks. The big tent stretched across a big part of the grounds, yet if the group were to enter it, they would find themselves in but a little room. "Throughout this little, well, adventure, you will be awarded with tokens after having fulfilled some tasks and challenges. I will leave you to yourself to figure out any clues and challenges, but am here for making sure things go smoothly and for answering questions about the mechanics," he further explained, leaving what the specific tasks would entail in the shadows so that the students may be surprised by what would expect them. A light smile curled over his lips as he mentioned for the students to approach the tent.

If they were to push aside the opening of the tent, they would enter a small room that seemed a little crowded. A wooden floor stretched past the students and a few dusty book shelves would frame some of the walls, though stacks and piles of books that have been used to build towers on the ground, seem to catch the eye even more. A little lantern would swing from the ceiling , ready to be grabbed, as well as a two oil lamps that had been placed on a wooden stool. Those two would shine a soft light onto a small scroll, sealed with a red wax seal. Ominously it would wait there, for a student to go ahead and open what was written inside. A quill lay beside it, with a fresh inkwell as an old gramophone sitting sitting in a corner of the room would play soft music in a jazzy tune. For those that would look around more carefully, they'd notice how the majority of the books had something, anything to do with the world of magical creatures.

If students were to break the seal and open the scroll they would be greeted with the following letter:
Dear Reader,

I must have lost track on the information I have been looking for. I require the answers to these three questions, may you be so kind to find them for me? Use the quill to write on the paper, you may use the books as resource if you find yourself stuck;

1.) Which animal is known as the Irish Phoenix? Answer below:
_______________________________________________________

2.) I am looking for the name of the creature which's song will make you go insane:
_______________________________________________________

3.) A Demiguise is known for many things, but why do their eyes turn blue?
_______________________________________________________

Faithfully,
the oblivious researcher
For an unknown reason, there was a lot of space between the signature and where the students were supposed to answer the questions. Was there something missing? Was there something more to this? It clearly seemed to be missing a part, despite the letter being complete; perhaps something that was to be revealed later on? Alan was curiously waiting for the students to start finding their answers and starting to fill in what the letter had asked them to do. Pretty easy of a task. At the end of the room was a door that was currently closed.

Starlee had been over the moon about being selected for a small little adventure during summer camp. Any chance to prove her new self was one that she was absolutely ready for. This was the new and improved Starlee after all.

She arrived at the specified location, rather later at night than she was expecting. She had prepared with a light dress and a jacket, just in case it got cold outside. Atypical for Starlee, she had her straight hair up in a messy top bun, not really feeling like having it get in the way. However, her bangs were still displayed prominently across her forehead. She listened intently to the prefect's instructions, making her way inside the little tent.

She was immediately drawn to the rolled-up parchment on the table, grabbing it and breaking the wax seal quickly. She would quickly read through the parchment and then would turn to read it aloud to her two companions. Magical creatures. They were all questions about magical creatures. Many people assumed that Starlee would be interested in the subject, with her love for nature, but it ended when it came to creatures. Sure, she loved her owl companion, but she really couldn't care less about the rest of the lot. They were messy, irritating, and had minds of their own. Sure, some plants were like that as well, but not all of them. And most typically stayed put.

She sighed audibly, as she began to look about the room. "Do either of you have any ideas? Magical creatures... just aren't really my forte." She would take a look around the room, pulling down a book from one of the shelves. Flipping through it, she would begin to search for something that might have to do with one of the three questions. It certainly appeared as though many of the books in the room were related to the topic, so surely she would find something here. She referred back to the questions. It was probably easiest to find the last one, seeing as the creature was mentioned by name in the question itself, so as she flipped through she could be heard muttering, "Demiguise... Demiguise... Demiguise..." over and over again.

Calypso was rather excited. While she had been enjoying herself at camp so far, it had
been much too long since she'd been on a proper adventure. A quiet bookworm, yes, but Cal was still a Gryffindor, after all.
They had been split up into groups of three, and the girl found herself paired with
Starlee from her cabin, and Everly Charlton, who had been in her dorm during school, as they were of the same house and year.
|
The late evening was cold, the sun already gone below the tree-lined horizon. Cal drew
her coat closer around her as she listened to the prefect's instructions. Clues and challenges? Now this sounded fun.
As she and the others stepped into the tent, Calypso gave a barely-audible gasp. The
walls were lined with shelves and here and there were piles of old, dusty-smelling books. She longed to explore the volumes, but her comrades were moving toward the scroll in the center of the room, clearly meant to be the focus of this obstacle. When Starlee unrolled the parchment, it appeared to be a list of magical creature questions from a so-called "oblivious researcher." Intriguing. She thought she knew the answers to two of the questions, but what caught her eye wasn't the words. Rather, she noticed the long empty space under the questions. That couldn't be a coincidence. Starlee was looking through a book now, muttering to herself.
|
"Hey, Starlee? Calypso interrupted the Slytherin, "A demiguise is a monkey-
like magical beast. They can turn themselves invisible and see the future. That's when their eyes turn blue. When they have a premonition. But maybe we can focus on the questions in a bit? I think there's something going on with that big space at the bottom of the list. We could try a revealing charm? Or maybe when we write all the answers down something more appears in that section of the parchment..." Oh, she was doing it again. She gave Starlee an apologetic smile. "Sorry. I can be a bit of a control freak sometimes."

This was certainly interesting.

Sometime during summer camp, Everly had found herself in what was called an adventure, as some sort of reward. Everly wasn’t exactly sure what this meant exactly, but she was quite smug with herself when she was notified of this. ‘Special’, they said?

The students had been told to meet up on the campgrounds, at the location around dusk. Alan, one of the Gryffindor prefects, arranged them into groups, and Everly found herself in a group with two other people - Starlee and a girl named Calypso. Starlee, she knew, but the name Calypso was new to her. She’d never heard of the name Starling before either, but Everly took this as a chance to get to know a new person better.

Alan gave them their instructions, and the three of them hurried towards the tent. Everly was eager to find out what was inside. The area seemed quite too small to fit the three of them, and Everly crouched down slightly, just for dramatic effect. She noticed the shelves of books and the scroll with the unbroken seal on the table, with the quill and lanterns. Starlee noticed it before Everly did, and the Slytherin reached it first. She read the contents of the scroll out loud. Everly quirked her lips up, searching the corners of her brain for anything that might help. “Honestly, I don’t have much to offer either,” Everly sighed. She’d heard of some of the terms before, but unless she could remember exactly what, it wasn’t much help. Neither did Starlee, apparently, so Everly followed Starlee toward the shelves of books, flipping through the pages. The majority of the books seemed to be on the topic of magical creatures. Fitting, as the questions also had to do with magical creatures, so Everly knew this was no coincidence. She kept searching, looking for the words ‘Demiguise’, ‘Irish Phoenix’, and any mention of a creatuure that could turn people insane.

Calypso, the other girl in their group, offered up an answer to one of the questions. “Awesome! That’s one answer of three. Here, Calypso, could you write that down…?” Everly reached for the quill and the bottle of ink on the table, and handed it to Calypso, because for one, she couldn’t really remember all of what Calypso had just said, and because her mind was occupied with other theories. Everly inspected the space at the bottom of the scroll that Calypso mentioned, and the possibility that it could be hidden ink. “Huhhh,” Everly said, dragging out the word. “Do either of you know Revelio? I don’t, so I’m assuming neither of you guys do?” Everly had heard of some sort of Muggle invisible ink, something to do with lemons of some sort? It had something to do with light, too. Everly picked up the scroll, and standing on her toes, tried to wave it around near the lantern swinging from the top of the tent. It wasn’t that hard, as the tent was kind of small. Everly couldn’t see anything, but she didn’t know if the results were supposed to be immediate or gradually or anything, so she kept waving it around, as if that were to make the words appear magically.

The second group, as the prefect watched them go through the task, would be a little more chaotic in their procedure he noticed. @Calypso Starling seemed fairly comfortable in her role as moral support whereas @Everly Charlton and @Starlee Kennedy would begin to research for the answers. Starlee would be of luck, hitting the jackpot with the book she grabbed ([d20:20] + 9 = 29) and she wouldn't find one, but all of the answers for the questions, resulting in the Augurey, the Fwooper and even the third answer she had originally been looking for; when they predict the future. But even when Everly tried to do the same she would find facts about many creatures, but none that would help her answer these questions properly ([d2o:2] + 7 = 9). As the group would note down their answers, they could see as ink letters would appear in the space that had been unoccupied before, revealing a second part of the message.
Dear Reader,

I must have lost track on the information I have been looking for. I require the answers to these three questions, may you be so kind to find them for me? Use the quill to write on the paper, you may use the books as resource if you find yourself stuck;

1.) Which animal is known as the Irish Phoenix? Answer below:
The Augurey__________________________________________

2.) I am looking for the name of the creature which's song will make you go insane:

3.) A Demiguise is known for many things, but why do their eyes turn blue?
Their eyes turn blue when they predict the future__________________

Ah, before I forget; now that you have helped me so much, it is necessary for me to help you proceed on your quest. The door to the next location appears to be locked but I am certain I have seen a key among those books somewhere. Won't you try to find it? If you enter once there is no going back, until you find your way out of course, now adventurer, do you dare venture forth?

Faithfully,
the oblivious researcher
With the revealed text something else appeared next to each of the questions, three little figurines, each depicting the creature in question; an Augurey, a Fwooper and a Demiguise. The little token would translate into three points at the end of this.
Mod Note:
Well done on proceeding to the second part of the first task; this task will be time based, meaning it is relying on your team's averaged Wisdom roll. You may look anywhere within the room; through books, in the shelves and may utilize the objects you find as a way to help; simply be creative in your pursuit of the answer. You can win a total of 1 / One token in that round.

As the hidden text appeared in the second half of the paper, Calypso felt a surge of that
satisfying feeling of being right. She had guessed that something would reveal itself there upon the correct answering of all three questions. The three of them had worked together, more or less, and thanks to Starlee's finding of the correct book, they were off to a good start.
|
"Great job everyone! We did it! The usually-quiet Cal was in her element.
"So, what do you two think that researcher person means about a 'key among the books'? It could be a physical key, but does that seem a bit too literal and, I don't know, easy to either of you? Perhaps there's a volume with 'key' in the title, or a picture of one on the cover?" The girl would wait to hear her comrades' responses before resuming the search through the shelves. Sure, it could be an actual key, but where was the spirit of clue-finding in that?
|
"Maybe they mean, like, the key to the understanding of a concept or idea,
as in a piece of information?" Whatever the answer to this new challenge, Calypso was confident that together, the three of them would figure it out.

It seemed luck was on Starlees side today, as when she flipped through the book, she managed to find each of the answers with relative ease. "Aha! Well, that was rather easy." She would say, jotting down the answers to each one with the provided quill after she found them. It had seemed Everly had tried to do the same, but her book provided none of them.

Moments after she wrote the answers down, a hidden message would appear in the blank space that Calypso had mentioned. She was right. The space was odd, but with the threesome not knowing the revelio spell, it would have been quite useless had Starlee not found all the answers. Of course, Calypso said she knew them, but as she didn't write down any of them, she would have to take the girls word for it.

The message talked of a key hidden among the books. Calypso began to speak, mentioning that it could be a literal or figurative key. But... there didn't seem to be any sort of hint as to where that clue might be, aside from the three previous answers. Perhaps the key was in the book she found, it seemed to know everything as it was, but how could she miss something so obvious?

In an effort to begin the hunt, Starlee would set the book down, and look through the shelves with Calypso's idea in hand. "Perhaps you are onto something there..." she began as she started pulling books off the shelves. "I'm gonna look for any hints on these books, perhaps the key is hidden within one of them." She really hoped that it really was this easy, because the clue didn't seem to lead them anywhere else.
Action: Search through the shelves for the key.

The second group would be a bit slow in their search until @Starlee Kennedy managed to retrieve the key after a while when she found it within a book that seemed hollow [d20:10]. As she had been the only one actively searching for the key please specify actions, it had taken them a bit longer than Alan had expected. But as it was now, the three of them, including @Everly Charlton and @Calypso Starling were able to exit through the door. Their path would lead them down a narrow corridor until they reached a small room that seemed square and poorly lighted. Any kind of illumination would extinguish as they entered.

A rope hung from the ceiling and seemed thick and sturdy, at each third toward the top was a small ribbon that had a shiny token bound to it. "This task is for one of you to do and you can obtain up to three tokens during this task," the Gryffindor prefect would explain. The room was a little dark, but enough to make out the shapes of the surroundings and the tokens itself gave off a soft glow. Any carried oil lamp or lumos would extinguish upon entering this room.
Mod Note:
The next task is simple, during the rp (you can also discuss this ooc) you choose one person to attempt the rope climb). Each section awards you with one token.

Turns out Calypso had been right. Well, not so much the overthinking part of things, though Starlee couldn't blame her for that as she had been doing the same, but for the simplicity of finding a key in a book. It had taken Starlee a few tries, and probably a bit longer since she was the only one actually doing anything, till she finally picked up a rather light book that turned out to be totally hollow, holding a key inside it.

"Found it!" she would announce to the group, holding up the key and slamming the hollow book shut. "Looks like it really was that easy!" she would smile at Calypso, meanwhile walking to the door and unlocking it for the trio to continue onward.

It was a walk down a long corridor until they reached another room, this time with a singular dangling rope in the center, and shiny coins attached to it in places. The prefect explained that they were to choose one to climb the rope, and Starlee immediately offered herself up as tribute to do so. "I can climb it!" she said somewhat brightly, trying to come off as confident as she didn't feel.

While she wasn't really strong, she wasn't horribly weak either, and figured she could probably handle climbing up the rope more so than the other two. However, her chosen attire wasn't really the best for climbing, but, since it was two girls in her group, she figured it would be okay.

It seemed Everly and Calypso agreed that Starlee should attempt the climb, so Starlee would take hold of the rope, look at the two and say, a bit hesitantly, "Make sure I don't fall... okay?" She would then begin to climb, hoping to reach all the tokens.
Action: Climb the rope to try and grab all three coins.
OOC this has been agreed upon for me to do.
